Sticky Sword/Shield Sprite Project

In this thread, we'll be creating BW-styled sprites for all the Generation 8 Pokemon, which will be used in Pokemon Showdown should players choose the BW Sprite option. These sprites are also free for use as long as the spriter or the project itself is credited.

To contribute, you must send an application to me via private message with the title "Sword/Shield sprite application". The application should contain at least one sprite in the Gen V style of Pokemon (the same applies to animators). When posting multiple sprites that take up too much space, group them together in a spoiler window to lessen the space taken up by this thread. Sprites from non-approved users will be deleted.

applications for spriters are now open, although i suggest waiting for the next batch of Pokemon to be revealed so that you guys have something to work with for the application

i'm still working on Zacian. i'm deciding which pose i'll give it since the sword is a problem for the size limit

since Zacian was shown holding its sword in a very specific direction, i decided to go with this pose. anyway, some official Pokemon sprites like Entei did the same thing. however i have prepared an alternate Zacian sprite if ever, in the future, it is shown to alternate the way it holds its sword

the trailer also showed Zacian and Zamazenta using a sort of "phase form". they seem similar to Solgaleo's radiant sun and Lunala's full moon phases. i'll be making sprites for them even tho we aren't sure yet if these affect their stats or are just for show

if that becomes the final sprite for Zacian, then i have a good idea on how i would animate it. otherwise, i would hold off on it

Pardon my asking, but would Melmetal and Meltan be included among these? They're still lacking a sprite, despite being used in LGPE metagames for a while now. I believe sprites may actually have been made, too; they're just lacking implementation.

no, theyre gen 7 pokemon, since Lets Go is considered gen 7. even websites like bulba and serebii say so. check the sun moon project for the sprites. the person who's in charge of implementing sprites in Showdown hasnt updated yet

also,

these are the special formes/phases shown in the trailer. didn't add the glow anymore because it would look weird as a sprite and i don't wanna unnecessarily break the colour limit. if any clearer artwork is ever released for these formes, i might replace these sprites. but this is it for now

I have checked out the kind of the x roads gallery as suggested in the wooloo post. I really like his Gossifleur sprite. I’m not saying the one in the archive isn’t good but I was really drawn to his interpretation.

Oh wow, the little Yamper's looking great, the changes definitely made it fit the BW style more! Impidimp looks brilliant too, honestly the sprite sells me on its design more than the model did. :D

thanks for the feedback. Gossifleur's back has now been updated. i also removed an extra finger on Impidimp and made new sprites for the starters. everything on the spreadsheet is now up to date

With the recent reveal of Gigantamaxing, could I petition for a sprite size limit increase specifically just for them? BW are 96x96, but Gigantamaxed Pokemon are huuuuuuuge. I think it would be a great way to maintain artistic integrity while showcasing how unique Gen VIII is and how much it's evolved so to speak since Gen V.

Unless of course Gigantamaxing was never on the table for spriting in which case, DISREGARD!

They would likely use the same canvas size but be upscaled, like what is done for totem formes.
