Taking a Stand (Suspect)

The Suspect metagame is infested with the common teams of dragons/steels, stall, and the infamous Latios->Gliscor->Metagross. This team is an attempt to defeat those teams. I am just within grasp of the lower requirement, but those teams mentioned above are so monstrous that it is very difficult to stand up to them. I strongly dislike this metagame, and feel it is rather unhealthy, and hopefully my ability to vote will make a difference.

This team is based around paralysis and setting up slow powerhouses to thoroughly rampage through and take advantage of the common teams that are ruining the ladder. Similar in strategy to Obi's paralysis team from about a year ago, yet different to combat Platinum and the suspect metagame. Onto the team!

Jirachi @ Occa Berry
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 240 HP/156 Def/32 Spd/80 SDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Body Slam
- U-turn
- Stealth Rock
- Zen Headbutt

I'm having a lot of fun with this lead. Takes advantage of people thinking it's the Scarfer. Sets up early rocks, scouts, and annoys the fuck out of you with hax.

I like this lead because it ruins a lot of leads with paralysis. Infernape either gets rocks up and is paralyzed, allowing me to Headbutt its ass and faint it, with Jirachi virtually unscathed. Occa Berry saves it, and if Nape gets paralyzed, the other team (probably offensive) isn't getting rocks, making it harder to get through this rather bulky team. Same with Azelf. Don't get much on Heatran, but I have plenty of switches, and the paralysis helps my sweepers who are always subjected to Heatran revenges. Yes, I know it only happens 60% of the time, but the game is so fun with this lead. Sets rocks vs. bulky leads and gets out.

tyranitar.png

Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Tail
Main weapon against stall. Will always remove a vital part of any stall team, allowing my team to take advantage of the gaping hole that the fainted poke leaves. I also need a Pursuiter for Rotom mainly (that oven is a motherfucker), though Zapdos is also another big target that forces it to take enough damage that it can't efficiently wall.

I've developed a love/hate relationship with Tyranitar, notably Banded, but it gets the job done. I dislike the turns it gives Lucario, and sometimes Mence and Gyara, but it accomplishes what I need it to and is essential to my strategy. And it eats paralyzed teams up. This doesn't need speed, so EVs go to HP to eat special attacks and repeatedly come in.

heatran.png

Heatran (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse
- Explosion

Being a paralysis team, my team is initially pretty slow. Heatran fulfills its role of checking a lot of things at any point of the game with 417 speed, and removing walls with boom (Timid booms are kind of meh). Dragon Pulse over HP Ice because Mence takes enough residual damage and more power against Latios. Flygon never worried this team, and Kingdra is the sometimes forgotten threat. Not much to say. I needed a fire resist and a revenge killer with some bulk.

celebi.png

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP/216 Def/40 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Grass Knot
- Thunder Wave
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Recover

Thunder Wave yay. One of the most reliable pokemon ever. If I'm threatened, I can always rely on Celebi to slow things down and stay at full health afterwards (Salamence, Gyarados, Latios on anything but full powered Draco death Meteor, even the menacing BP recipient Metagross sometimes).

Suggestions for the third slot are greatly appreciated. 40 speed instead of the Smogon spread of 36 to make up for the 30 speed IV. Never really nails Scizor because they are pumping up their special defense for Latios, though the HP Fire is usually enough for them not to be a threat anymore. I think I have enough Scizor insurance.

machamp.png

Machamp (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Def
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dynamicpunch
- Payback
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Par abuser! I love this Machamp. This poke can take on almost anything one on one and come out on top like a true fighter. Awesome bulk, awesome attack score, awesome ability. Forces switches and adds up the residual damage, and punches big ass holes in teams. Eats paralyzed teams.

After putting in Tyranitar for Rotom, Payback is not as useful, especially with the paralysis causing it to move first (always think it had negative priority for some reason). Stone Edge might be nice for removing things out of the sky for Scizor, same with Ice Punch. Stone Edge's PP puts me off.

After battling Infinity and getting horribly ruined by Calm Mind Suicune, he recommended Bulk Up Champ with some special defense. Now that I think about it, I don''t need a status absorber, and a Bulk Upper might be just what I need to remove any tanks. Seriously, that thing can remove any tank it seems after fighting against it a couple of times. Such a good one-on-one poke I'm telling you! Suggestions for this bastard would be great. Substitute set? Bulk Up with what moves? EV spreads?

scizor.png

Scizor (F) @ Shed Shell
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Brick Break
- Roost

Fuck off Magnezone I need Scizor for way too many things! Heatran loves your stupid Hidden Power. The main thing against all the dragon/steel teams, and an obstacle to the Latios->Gliscor mania. Shed Shell fakes a Choice Band too sometimes to opponents not paying attention to the damage output, or when I just kill something. Roost because this Scizor can set up on A LOT of things and take down so much shit while retaining its health. Roost also allows it to come out on top vs. most other Scizors.

Brick Break because of the DualScreen Memento bullshit Latios. Other pokes try to prevent the set up as much as they can with paralysis or high powered moves and take the Memento. Scizor comes in on Gliscor, who don't usually Taunt (why?) and Swords Dances. Gliscor Baton Passes, and Scizor will usually break the screens then. Metagross also has some trouble taking down this tremendously bulky Scizor with EQ. Brick Break usually strips of like 50% on the switch in. Quite a bit of prediction needed, though it makes it not so easy as 1 2 3 for the opponent.

Scizor also eats paralyzed teams. Revenge kills too of course, though more residual damage on the dragons is needed with the lack of a boosting item.
---

Final things to address:
- Stall is always a pain. Tyranitar somewhat remedies this. No cares in the world about paralysis. I try as hard as I can to open up holes for Scizor's bulkiness to capitalize on. Bulk Up Machamp I think would help a lot with this.
- Calm Mind Suicune, any variation. Perish Song on Celebi?

I'll use my bump here. Seriously, no rates at all? I put quite a lot of effort into this team, and I feel it is rather unique and decent, but it can always be helped. What, do I have to have a big name for people to rate, or a title with a high rating on the leaderboards?

Machamp has been changed to Bulk Up/Dynamic Punch/Stone Edge/Payback with Adamant 252 HP/128 Special Defense/128 Attack to help with stall and clear Scizor's counters. This thing really dismantles stall teams, a problem I was having previously, alongside Tyranitar.

well, I like this team. I can see you having some problems with Infernape and shuca heatran. I'm also inclined to say that ground attacks can do a great deal of damage to you. I find machamp and scizor to be kind of redundant. I'm thinking maybe gyarados would work well over one of them. Taunt gyarados wrecks stall teams and you have cbtar to get rid of common counters celebi, starmie, cressy, etc.

This is a good team, but now to work on your problems:

Suicune and Empoleon are pretty troublesome to you. I can definately see MTI's Suicune being a bitch to you because you really have no way to beat cune! Everything on your team takes a bunch from boosted Surf or Ice Beam, which is a problem when fighting these two. You could potentially use your own Bulky Water which leads me to your next problem:

Heatran. Heatran looks a bit threatening also, since your own Heatran and Tar are pretty unrelibable to stop it. If you face a Heatran that can switch attacks you may be in for some trouble! I run a Life Orb Tran quite frequently, but I think thats rare.

Other than that, I would probably change Scizor's EV spread as well to make it even more bulky. A spread of 252 HP / 76 Atk / 4 Spe / 176 SpD is ideal for that set. The 76 Attack isn't just to "look cute" as it will OHKO Azelf at +2 w/ Bullet Punch guarenteed. The 176 Special Defense makes setting up on Vaporeon easier and switching into Latios less painful, and the 4 Speed is for Vap also.

To fix your other problems, I would probably drop Machamp. Although I love its Bulk Up Stall breaking ability it is ultimately hindered a bit by Sandstorm anyway. What I would recommend is a RestTalk Dragon Dance Gyarados. This will give you a reliable switch into Heatran, Scizor, Lucario, and somewhat to Infernape (who also totals your team), as well as giving you a ground immunity (you may not notice that you have a bad Earthquake weakness). RestTalk Dragon Dance Gyarados also will break stall in the lategame if you can succesfully remove Rotom, Zapdos, and / or Celebi with your Tyranitar, which you should be able to do. It will also be able to survive a hit from SubPetaya Empoleon, and Dragon Dance high enough while it is setting up to survive the hit and kill the 25% health penguin. It leaves you open to Salamence, but I wouldn't worry as much about that since Impish Jirachi is a very reliable check. For Suicune, I would probably switch Celebi up to tinkerbell with a small twist:

Celebi @ Miracle Seed / Expert Belt
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 HP / 216 SpA / 40 Spe
*Leafstorm
*Hidden Power Fire
*Thunder-Wave
*Recover

This will do a MUCH better job at blasting through things like MTI Suicune. If you are scared of Life Orb Cune (which I would be), you can sacrifice HP to bump up speed to outspeed it. It won't be as detrimental since you should have enough bulk between defensive Scizor, Tar, Impish RestTalk Gyarados, and Jirachi. The Miracle Seed / Expert Belt is mainly for getting that needed powerboost without the sandstorm + Life Orb punishment. Just for some damage calculations, a Miracle Seed / Expert Belt Leafstorm will do 81-96% to Max HP Tyranitar (about 60% OHKO w/ SR), 72-85% to a Max HP +1 Suicune, and 85-100% to a +1 Offensive Suicune (100% OHKO with SR if it attacks, ~80% before it attacks).

So to summarize, switching Celebi to a more offensive version with Leafstorm will give you better Suicune and bulky water elimination, which will help your new RestTalk Gyarados break stall in the lategame, which will be aided by your Tyranitar. This will patch up weaknesses to a few threats such as Heatran, Infernape, Lucario, and Scizor, which will ease the strain on Heatran's revenge killing duties. Scizor and Jirachi are obligatory steels that will help against Dragon assaults, and Scizor will give a final lategame threat. Looks good to me!

Hope this rate helped (and I may just steal this team!)

EDIT: Tested this team with my changes... it fucking rocks!

Thank both of you very much for the advice. I was hesitant at first of using Rest-talk Gyarados because my experiences with Rest talk have been pretty lackluster, but it has worked like a charm and relieves a lot of the pressure predicting around a lot of pokes, namely choiced. The gameplan in Raikoulover's final large paragraph is excellent in helping my playstyle, where at first it was basically paralyze everything and remove Scizor's counters with Pursuits and Machamp.

Thanks for the suggestions. I met the lower requirements earlier today!
