Hi, it's blarajan here, coming with my first RMT in quite a long while. I've had quite a lot of success with this team on the Ubers ladder, and wanted to share it with the world. I've peaked at a ranking of 1675, and have (total across everything) 98 wins 83 losses with this team, an overall record of very good. This masterpiece was created when I wanted to play OU but thought everything was stagnant. However, while bored of everything, I decided I wanted to have a lot of fun in building. I decided in #pokemon that I was going to build a really great OU team with only really unique or fun Pokemon. Seeing as I'm only good for Little Cup, the theme of the team was only Little Cup legal Pokemon allowed. With a lot of brainstorming, I think me and my friends in #pokemon concocted the perfect combination of Little Cup Pokemon for a team! I quickly found this team had significantly more success in Ubers than OU, so I switched to that as my primary metagame! Since the next two suspect tests are things I really don't care for (Sleep Clause and Species Clause), I'm retiring this team. It's been a load of fun circlejerking in #pokemon over it, but all good things must come to an end.
Building Process
We first started with Aron. We figured if we were going to have any chance at crushing the mighty OU Pokemon, it would be with Endeavor spam.
To successfully sweep with Aron, we needed quite a few things. We needed to win the weather war, clear hazards, have Toxic Spikes for Pokemon immune to Sand damage, a spin blocker for our hazards, and Will-o-Wisp for Pokemon immune to Toxic and Sand. That basically added Hippopotas, Tentacool, and Misdreavus directly.
From here, we saw our weakness to a ton of special threats and drizzle spam. We needed a Water and Electric check while also giving ourselves a win condition that wasn't Aron. We searched around really hard for this spot until we started eyeing Lileep. Lileep had Storm Drain and insane defenses. In its movepool rested the perfect combination of four moves to take down OU and Ubers behemoths alike...
Finally, we needed a check to Ground-type Pokemon like Hippowdon, Fighting-type Pokemon like Terrakion and Breloom, and things like Venusaur. We had issues here until we realized that Smogon's namesake, the mighty Koffing, fit perfectly.
Keep in mind that this team was originally made as an OU team, so the teambuilding process is filled with OU threats. However, this team ended up working significantly better in Ubers than it ever did in OU, which we found out really by accident. We ended up switching to Ubers with basically no changes...from here on out, I'll be discussing how I fare against Ubers threats. Now on to the sets!
Nitty Gritty Babby Details
Hippopotas @ Eviolite
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Whirlwind
Hippopotas starts the match off by being the much needed bringer of Sandstorm for Aron. The moves are pretty standard. Stealth Rock hits a variety of Pokemon that gives Aron trouble, such as Reshiram (Turboblaze), Kyurem-B (Teravolt), Kyurem-W (Turboblaze), and Rayquaza (Air Lock). Since these Pokemon are difficult to Endeavor + Sand / Poison to death, I tend to stall them out with a combination of Stealth Rock, Sand, and Toxic damage. Stealth Rock is also one of my best ways of checking Ho-Oh, who gives this team a lot of trouble if Hippopotas isn't healthy. Earthquake is important chip damage and helps significantly in breaking through Zekrom, Dialga, and Arceus-Rock. It also just accelerates the damage dealing process towards everything. Slack Off is standard in that Hippo needs to remain healthy. Finally, Whirlwind stops Extremekiller, Rayquaza, Ho-Oh, Zekrom, Kyurem-B, and basically anything from setting up on me.
Little Hippo shines when it comes to tanking hits. He is my counter to Extremekiller Arceus, only taking about half from +2 Extremespeed from non Life Orb, and is my primary switch in towards Ho-Oh, who can only 3HKO with Sacred Fire. He helps me check Blaziken and basically anything physical. Likewise, whenever I see a Darkrai on the opposing team, I try my hardest to let Hippopotas take the sleep. While he is a crucial member on the team, I can very frequently account for his role by playing intelligently with the rest of the squad. Fortunately, his consciousness is not a prerequisite for getting the Sand back up.
DOGARS (Aron) @ Shell Bell
Trait: Sturdy
Level: 1
- Endeavor
- Protect
- Toxic
- Hidden Power [Rock]
Next we have the little monster we built the team around! Quite frankly, Aron is a monstrosity. Instead of listing what Aron kills, I'm going to list the Pokemon that Aron has trouble with: Darkrai is a problem if it has not slept something; Shaymin-S is a problem since flinch; Groudon is immune to Sandstorm, sets up Stealth Rock, and has Dragon Tail; Zekrom / Reshiram / Kyurem-B / Kyurem-W all break Sturdy; Dialga is immune to Sandstorm; Ferrothorn is immune to Sandstorm, has Iron Barbs, and uses Leech Seed; Arceus-Ghost is annoying; Giratina-O is annoying; fuck Giratina. That's the list of Pokemon that Aron does not absolutely obliterate by itself. I know many of these are common Pokemon; however, the team is built to handle Aron's flaws and attempts to ameliorate these threats by spreading status, stalling, or doing something else to put the game in position for an Aron sweep.
The way Aron plays is very simple. Come in, take a hit, go down to 1 HP, use Endeavor, go back to full. Rinse and repeat. However, I consistently use all of the other moves. Toxic lets me nail incoming Giratina / Arceus-Ghost / Giratina-O on the switch. If I do not hit Arceus-Ghost with a Bad Poison, I'm in for a hard time. I likewise frequently use Toxic in the face of Groudon and Rayquaza. Groudon likes to Stealth Rock in front of Aron, meaning if I endeavor first, he lives, gets up SR, and then uses Dragon Tail to smash me. If I Toxic first, that at least means I kill Groudon. Due to Air Lock, Rayquaza does not take Sandstream damage. As such, I CAN kill it with Endeavor + Hidden Power Rock. However, I much rather Toxic it as it uses Dragon Dance and then hit it with Endeavor. Hidden Power Rock is selected as it has no immunities, is a non contact move, and can hit Shedinja if that's ever necessary. Finally, Protect helps me stall the living shit out of everything with Stealth Rock, Toxic Spikes, Burn damage, and Sandstream. Very frequently even though Aron's Sturdy has been broken, I keep it around for extra turns of chip damage. You'll be amazed how many games I've turned around with a good ol' Double Protect.
Tentacool @ Eviolite
Trait: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic
This bad boy was another member of the “Pokemon I had to include or Aron will be unable to function” and quite frankly, it is probably the worst Pokemon on the team in terms of work put into each match. However, the combination of traits it provides is essential and my team would most definitely be unable to function without it. Tentacool provides the Toxic Spikes that help me handle the majority of Ubers in instances that Aron is not feasible or if I was unable to win the weather war. Tentacool's Toxic Spikes make me more willing to sack Hippopotas if I have to even if they still have a Groudon or Kyogre left. Rapid Spin is just as essential, as it removes the hazards that Aron cannot have up if he wants to function. Unfortunately, Tentacool frequently has troubles spinning, and I often have to sack Pokemon to let it do so. It does manage to spin on Kyogre, Palkia, +0 Blaziken, Darkrai, and some others. The main goal is to just not have hazards go up at all, but considering Deoxys-S exists and Dialga is so hard to handle, that's just unfeasible. Toxic lets me hit some Pokemon such as Ho-Oh and Lugia on the switch when they come in, or nail some of the annoying Ghosts. Finally, Scald is just chip damage, but when it burns Ferrothorn I am the happiest because fuck Ferrothorn.
I generally use Tentacool like it's a toolbox. I switch it in to set down a few layers, spin stuff, Toxic stuff, or die. It combined with Lileep act as my primary checks to Kyogre and special Pokemon in general. Tentacool is the hardest to use Pokemon on this team, but is essential nonetheless.
Misdreavus @ Eviolite
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Def / 216 Spd
Timid Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute
Misdreavus is the only relatively fast Pokemon I have on the team! The given speed lets it outrun +Spe base 80 Pokemon, which means it outruns non +Spe base 90s! The utility it provides the team is second to none. It outruns Modest Dialga and hits it with a Will-o-Wisp, which allows Aron to Endeavor it. Likewise, Substitute / Pain Split takes advantage to all of the passive damage this team has, letting me stall with Misdreavus. The large HP stats the majority of Uber Pokemon have lets Misdreavus heal up quite a bit every time it uses Pain Split. Shadow Ball breaks Lugia's Substitute, hits Mewtwo, and is primarily chip damage. I Substitute / Pain Split stall until something is in Shadow Ball range and then I kill it. Misdreavus acts as a spin blocker, switching into Forretress (with prediction) and then setting up a Substitute. Misdreavus is likewise one of my only answers to Ferrothorn; I find myself frequently relying on Misdreavus's good arbitrary bulk to live and burn something, or to outrun and stall something. It's quite the good Pokemon.
To be honest, I don't really know what Misdreavus checks besides “everything.” The combination of what it brings to the table is just really really essential for how the team operates. Getting a Burn on a Groudon and proceeding to Substitute over it, hitting Dialga, living Mewtwo Psystrike and then getting that Shadow Ball off, etc are all things I find myself relying on quite a bit. A healthy Misdreavus with Toxic Spikes down is frequently a win condition by itself.
#Team (Lileep) @ Eviolite
Trait: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature
- Recover
- Curse
- Ingrain
- Rock Slide
Team is an absolute fucking monster, with the blood of hundreds of Ubers on his hands. In the Sand, Lileep has absolutely preposterous special bulk. Here are some of the stupid calculations / things it lives:
252 SpAtk Kyurem-W Ice Beam vs 252 HP/252 SpDef Eviolite Lileep (+SpDef) : 40.18% - 47.32% (3 hits to KO)
252 SpAtk Life Orb Mewtwo Ice Beam vs 252 HP/252 SpDef Eviolite Lileep (+SpDef) : 32.74% - 38.69% (3-4 hits to KO)
252 SpAtk Choice Specs Dialga (+SpAtk) Draco Meteor vs 252 HP/252 SpDef Eviolite Lileep (+SpDef) : 43.75% - 51.79% (2-3 hits to KO)
252 +2 SpAtk Life Orb Darkrai Focus Blast vs 252 HP/252 SpDef Eviolite Lileep (+SpDef) : 73.21% - 86.31% (2 hits to KO)
Basically if it's a special attack, Lileep can live it. His inability to ever fucking die allows me to very frequently outstall my opponents or sweep by myself. Curse patches up Lileep's subpar Defense stat, and boosts my Attack at the same time. Nobody gives any fucks about the Speed drops. Recover is an obvious choice because it lets me keep Lileep healthy for special walling. Finally, Ingrain is a unique move in that it lets me set up even on the high amount of phazing in the Ubers tier. I really wanted Suction Cups on Lileep (but knew I needed Storm Drain) and then realized Ingrain was the perfect move for me. Sometimes not being able to switch out afterwards is hard, but the healing and the ability to stay in on things such as Dragon Tail Giratina or Groudon is absolutely crucial.
Lileep just comes in and beats the shit out of everything. It tanks every attack known to man, letting me pivot around as they wonder why a Little Cup Pokemon took absolutely nothing from anything. Nobody really realizes Storm Drain, so I switch into Kyogre Water Spout all the time. After everything gets weakened, I either win with Aron, Misdreavus, or Lileep. While Lileep is still weak as shit even after a ton of Curse boosts, the point isn't for it to be strong. The point is to combine the Toxic, Sand, and Burn damage along with its boosts to keep it alive and to ensure its opponents die. I can break through things with Rock Slide damage, but generally Curse is to keep me alive. Stronger Rock Slides do come in handy though against a variety of different threats. Overall, Lileep is one of the most fun and stupidly bulky Pokemon I've ever used, and it often blows me away how much it can smash the Ubers tier. The only problem is it gets frozen like such a mother fucker...
SMOGON (Koffing) @ Eviolite
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Pain Split
- Clear Smog
- Will-O-Wisp
- Fire Blast
Finally, we wrap things up with Smogon the Koffing. Koffing is primarily the glue of the team, functioning in Ubers as I needed it to in OU. Koffing is like Tentacool in that it kind of sucks sometimes, but it's also really really useful. It's my primary Groudon counter, switching in on that whenever. It likewise lives a variety of stupidly strong Physical hits and just burns the attacker. Without it, I would almost instalose to threats such as Choice Band Rayquaza, SD Groudon, and some physical dragons. Likewise, it is one of my few outs against Ferrothorn, generally burning it but hitting weakened ones with Fire Blast. Clear Smog prevents Arceus, Rayquaza, etc from setting up on me. Finally, Pain Split helps keep me healthy; combined with Koffing's low HP stat and once again the high HP stats found in Ubers, Koffing can remain near full relatively consistently. Unfortunately, its special bulk often holds it back, making it difficult to switch into mixed attackers. Koffing is a really simple Pokemon to use; I need it, but sometimes it doesn't do much. Also here's a really amusing calculation:
252 SpAtk Life Orb Mewtwo Psystrike vs 252 HP/252 Def Eviolite Koffing (+Def) : 84.51% - 99.3% (2 hits to KO)
One Last Babby Look
This team has been really fun to play and has given everyone on #pokemon quite a few laughs considering the sheer amount of followers I have. Shout outs to Chaos, Yilx, jonathanrp, alkinesthetase, and everyone else that has gotten a lot of laughs playing this team with me. I've had some epic wins, some disappointing losses, and quite frankly an exorbitant amount of hax. Either way, it's been fun.
Babby out.
