Team Fortress 2 - The Official Discussion Thread

so does anyone have any ideas on decent places for spies to hide? problem areas include: the first goldrush map, wellctf (oh lord i'm a terrible spy here), the final dustbowl area

ok this is a lie, i'm pretty much just a mediocre spy at best, is anyone better that could give me some pointers?

in completely unrelated news what is this jumpspinning thing i keep hearing about for heavies? apparently this leads to better heavy movement with less vulnerability, but i think i'm missing something. if it's just the obvious "hey jump around while you're spinning" then that doesn't really seem that helpful.

im powering through the medic achievements at the moment... just unlocked the health regaining syringe gun, 12 achievements in total. i think ive found my class i wanna play exclusively

Oh hello smogon I plays the tf2.

?_?

Anyways I play mostly scout and sniper with some pyro and lately demo, though I'm pretty versatile and can play whatever is needed :/. I joined the steam group so I guess I've seen a few of you around ;)

Also for clicky, the heavy jumpspin is used mostly around corners where you dno't know what's coming so you jump and spin adn when you reach the corner you'd be able to see anyone and you'd be ready to fireaway. The thing is that it's pretty risky since you know the spindown time takes ages and if you jump into action and are overwhelmed immediately it's hard to get away from that quickly.

clicky to be honest there isn't much point playing spy on goldrush, it's such a clusterfuck that it's almost impossible to get more than 1 or 2 backstabs.

yeah i sorta realized that after the fact of posting :/

however i did just have a nice run on granary as a spy after i got autobalanced and felt like fucking around. no one really expects it on granary, got a few shanks in edgewise. i don't really think it's something you can do the whole game though, since on granary there really aren't that many places to hide. good while it lasts, though!

and thanks about the jumpspin, i thought people were doing that all over the map, not just around corners lol

As defense, point1, beginning of round, go hide right in the corner of their spawn. between the first two gates.

Have fun.

Between which two gates? I can't see how that would be too useful

edit: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-chET9xL_XA&feature=related (though his opponents suck)
edit: youtube comment just gave a fun idea: go spy and cloak right in front of a snipers rifle, just to freak him out when his scope is filled with dead spy

Code:
-----
   X|_______

Hide at X. They'll come out all focused on your team in front of the cart. You can come from behind and stab two people then disappear back behind the mayhem.

Check out the latest news on the heavy update!

As well as the 3 new weapons and 35 achievements there's also going to be a new game mode and 5 new official valve maps for this game mode! But on top of this, there's a new payload map (again, official valve stuff) which "focuses on more open spaces" and they're uncluding another community map in the update, this time cp_steel, which I've yet to play, though after reading about it, I'm definitely going to soon.
Even better is the fact that over the next 5 days they'll be telling us all about these maps, one every day!
Holy fuck...valve, I love you.
Also, they claimed that "if all goes well, you'll have your hands on it shortly afterwards."

edit: firestorm I still don't get what you mean, and also I've been playing spy on goldrush alot lately, it's unbelievably fun, and I was so wrong when I said to clicky you'll rarely get more than one or two backstabs, if you prioritize, you can stab a few backs pushing the cart then cloak, come back and stab some more, damn it's fun, I got 200 points easily

Hoolyyy shit. 7 maps and 5 of them are a new gamemode?
My god.
I'm going back into this game.

Here's my prediction.

1. CP_Steel
2. New Gamemode (Arena)
3. New Payload Map
4. Weapons / Achievements
5. New Arena Maps
6. Recap

Looking forward to this.

Predictions on weapons?

I'm hoping for a more accurate secondary fire. It seems like every class has a secondary shotgun or primary. Nobody will ever use the shotgun unless you're ubered and trying to move fast or if you run out of ammo. I sometimes wish I could shoot something a bit more accurate than a shotgun as his secondary when moving forward.

Melee must be some sort of fist upgrade or something, since I like my heavy without a weapon, bashing skulls with his bare hands.

As far as primary, it's anyone's call. Maybe it'll do more damage to buildings, like sentries, making people start using heavy/medic to kill medic camps more often. Maybe it'll shoot faster but have less ammo, or be more powerful with less ammo. I'm pretty excited.

Primary - Healing Minigun
Well because it seems Valve was intent on making the Heavy better without a Medic, why not give him a Minigun that can heal himself, an obvious trade off in damage dealing capabilities keeps it balanced. Though it can't stack with the Medic (which is what Valve also wants).

Secondary - Desert Eagle
The TFC Heavy had 2 shotguns, a Supershotgun which everyone had, and a single barreled shotgun that was more accurate than the SSG, so I'm thinking a more accurate gun. Some sort of huge pistol, similar to a Desert Eagle would fit the heavy well I think, something like the Spy's revolver, accurate with decent damage at long range.

Melee - Brass Knuckles
I'm thinking more damage but WAY slower

The primary is the hardest to come up with, I have so many other ideas, like a super fast shooting minigun, a minigun that shoots explosive rounds, or even one that makes him a bit faster (lol).

Here's my prediction.

1. CP_Steel
2. New Gamemode (Arena)
3. New Payload Map
4. Weapons / Achievements
5. New Arena Maps
6. Recap

Looking forward to this.

"arena" isn't the game mode, they said "A new game mode and 5 new arenas for it" probably just meaning 5 maps.
Also they'll probably unveil weapons and achievements last, because they're the main event :)
A new meet the class vid is likely since sniper was in june, and I heard somewhere that valve did make meet the medic but weren't pleased with it and scrapped it.
also I reckon boxing gloves or brass knuckles is pretty likely

It's sad I bought this game in Walmart for $20, and my computer can run it, but it lags so much, just the game, and it ends up I more RAM :(

Update number two! One new weapon and the names and pictures for all 35 achievements!

Best of all though, is that some of the achievements make even more stuff pretty damn obvious. If you right click > properties, you can see the image names and most of them are big clues to how you get achievements (though some are too generic to understand). The achievement "Dont touch sandvich" (obtained by killing scouts, heh) and "Konspicuous consumption" are pretty indicative that the replacement for the shotgun is a sandwich which restores health (thus making him more reliant without his medic, like valve stated).

edit: much like dance dance immolation, this update has amazing achievement names such as:
Rasputin: Take damage from multiple enemies at once
Stalin the kart (obvious)
Communist mani-fisto (punching stuff)
Marxman (kill someone with the minigun in midair)
etc
