Team Options - Linking to Sucessful RMTs

As people develop creative movesets for Pokemon and drive to incorporate them into the Smogon analysis, it becomes increasing difficult to update team options and support for the certain sets. My suggestion is that we link successful RMTs to the analysis in order to give the reader an idea of where to look to see the set they chose in action. I can't recall any sets off the top of my head, but Phillip7086's Trapper Heatran set is (I think) almost ready for upload in to the analysis. When someone goes to http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/heatran, and scrolls down to Trapper, I feel that they should be provided with a link to Phillip's RMT. This Heatran set is not the best example, unfortunately, because it doesn't require too much support for it to be successful, but hopefully you all understand my idea. I feel like if this is implemented, it will save battlers from searching up RMTs with their Pokemon and make it easily to find strategies that work.

Thanks for your time!

Currently there is nothing stopping writers from using links to relevant forum threads in analysis, in fact the current Dugtrio has a link to a discussion thread weighing up the advantages and disadvantages of Life Orb and Choice Band. I can imagine that a link to a RMT could be helpful for certain analysis if there is an appropriate and well written RMT showcasing the Pokemon. However, this should probably not be rolled out as a standard thing for every analysis to aim to include to avoid people trying to shoehorn RMTs that have the Pokemon but don't focus on it into the analysis.

Aura Guardian, that is a totally different suggestion from what the OP put forward. If you want to bring up unrelated ideas just make a new thread. Also, categorizing Pokemon by overly simplistic terms such as "wall" and "sweeper" gives little to no useful information to players, and would be a waste of time to set up. Just because a Pokemon likes working with specially defensive Vaporeon does not mean that Blissey would make a great teammate for it.

Oh yeah! I didn't realize that it was already possible. Well I guess that linking is under the discretion of the author of the article, and the editors will verify the chosen link. I hope some contributors read this thread, because it's not up to the administration of the forums to do this, it's up to the contributors. Thanks!

The C&C mods and site staff do set guidelines which the contributors will follow in all cases unless there is a good reason to go against them (like including an extra section for hidden power in Zapdos, which is clearly helpful but not in the standard format). If a contributor can justify why they think something would help readers if included in an analysis or guide it is generally allowed.

This is a very good idea. I don't know what more to say than that, you can put a subsection or paragraph in an analysis to talk about how it is used in a team. I hope C&C is okay with this.

It sounds like a great idea, my only concern is that people (similarly with the "set names") will want to do this with their own RMTs and such (myself included...). There could easily be a rule put in place that you may not link your own RMT unless it is recommended (aka the RMT Archive nomination rule), which would solve this problem.

Says the guy with a former sig along the lines of "RMTs should be for advice, not showing off." I'm not bringing this up without reason though.

1) There's not even credits for the contributors to the article; now we're highlighting showcases of a team using the Pokemon? Which deserves more recognition? I'm not suggesting there be a credits page (various reasons), but there is definitely something backwards here.

2) People will start using specific sets with the sole intention of creating an RMT and getting it into the analyses. Which leads to 3:

3) In relation to the non-self nomination HeYsUp mentioned and tying in with point 2, people that actually know how to use a set would have incentive to not write the set themselves, despite clearly demonstrating they understand how to use it. Which is (or rather, should be) more appreciated, reading often ego-filled RMTs, or having their expertise expressed in the article? If we allow users to link to their own RMTs, people right with the sole intention of showing off.

4) I think having an RMT linked also limits a user's creativity; the team options give guidelines rather than saying "Use this" and I believe this is the way to go. It leaves the options ultimately in the hands of the team makers and having an RMT for this purpose puts pressure on them to match the team's intentions on most levels and can even go as far as having them copy the team. In fact the articles themselves are supposed to be guidelines, not "use this set to the tee."

We go from a professional approach to the articles to having User showboating directly linked on the highlight on the site. I only see negativity coming from this. Hell, we may as well just have http://www.smogon.com/dp/teams/ with this going on.
