Team 'Surprise of the Element'

Hello, fellow Smogoners! This is my first attempt an a competitive Uber team. I suppose I'll get to it then.

Deoxys-Speed Forme
deoxyse.png

Focus Sash
Jolly
4 HP/ 252 ATK/ 252 Spe

Extremespeed
Stealth Rock
Spikes
Taunt

This thing is one of my favorite leads. It usually gets up Stealth Rock, and at least one layer of Spikes. Taunt is to keep opposing leads from getting down hazards. Extremespeed OHKOes every variation of lead Deoxys-A, without Focus Sash, I believe, which as been useful. The thing is, I'm not entirely happy with him. The abundance of Scarfed Lead Darkrais is killing me, and I ALWAYS lose the Speed Tie with other Deoxys-S.I'm thinking of replacing him with another pokemon, maybe a lead Giratina, and going with Forretress as one of my other pokemon. Forretress as a lead seems like it would get murdered by any lead other than Deoxys-S. This is where I want the most help, as sometimes a good lead can make or break a game.

Groudon
383.png

Leftovers
Adamant
200 HP/ 112 Atk/ 108 Def/ 88 SpDef

Thunder Wave
Swords Dance
Earthquake
Stone Edge

The Paradancer. I needed more support to slow the opposition down, and this set works. Paralyz, SD on the switch, and try to hit things like a truck with the monstrously powerful EQ. The sun is useful, as many uber teams are based around rain.

Latios
latios.png

Soul Dew
Timid
4 HP/ 252 SpAtk/ 252 Spe

Calm Mind
Dragon Pulse
Grass Knot
Recover

Easily one of the greatest Special Sweepers in the game. Calm Mind gives it absolutely beastial Special stats. It outspeeds and can OHKO many dragons with Dragon Pulse, and OHKOs or 2HKOs most others that aren't Blissey or Steel typed. Grass Knot OHKOs Groudon and Kyogre, and 2HKOs Tyranitar. Very handy, huh? Recover adds to his staying power. This is a menace, and will destroy you of you don't see it coming.

Palkia
palkia.jpg

Lustrous Orb
Hasty
216 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 40 SpAtk

Flamethrower
Outrage
Spacial Rend
Aura Sphere

A Mixed attacker, can break walls like they're made of styrofoam if played right. Anything it meets will suffer a powerful move, as the Dragon/Fire combo hits everything for neutral damage.

Mewtwo
Mewtwo.jpg

Life Orb
Mild
24 Atk/ 232 Spe/ 252 Spa

Aura Sphere
Selfdestruct
Ice Beam
Flamethrower

The classic Uber. Remember when this thing couldn't be touched? Unfortunately, those days are over, but this is still easily one of the best Special Sweepers in the game. Aura Sphere annihilates Darkrai, and takes a big chunk out of Blissey and any steels that dare face this monster. I like to call this next combination Beamthrower, and while not AS useful as Boltbeam, it still does a very nice job.. When his time is up, Selfdestruct will either OHKO or wont leave much HP left If you aren't prepared or don't have a priority move to counter it, you WILL be swept.

Arceus-Normal

Silk Scarf
Jolly
(restricted EVs)

Swords Dance
Extremespeed
EQ
Shadow Claw (temporary)

You know that one quote on Spear Pillar. 'After the pre-battle...' that one? That describes this set perfectly. The cleaner and possible revenge killer, this thing is even more deadly than most people already think it is. One turn to set up an SD isn't hard to come by, and Extremespeed and EQ beat up anything that's still around when this bad boy comes to party. Shadow Claw is a filler move, that's there for the Flying types after Extremespeed is out of PP. Any replacement suggestions would be welcome.

Changes in Red.

Now my team no longer has a sleep absorber... I'm thinking another Dialga, but I don't know who to get rid of.

So, that's it. I'm new to Uber competitive battling, but don't go easy on me. I'm trying to be the best, after all. Just like everybody else.

All images are property of their respective owners, I don't own any of them.

Even though I doubt you've actually used this team seeing you have Toxic Spikes on Deoxys, I'll still rate.

You want Stealth Rock over Toxic Spikes because it doesn't get TS...

Also, why two sleep absorbers? I would defiantly change Kyogre's set because with leftovers, NO ONE is going to think you're choiced. something like a Choice Scarf user to revenge kill is really nice.

there are a few more problems that I see, and probably more I didn't catch, but I'm a bit busy right now so I can't make a real rate

1) Why does Deoxys-S have a Lonely nature? You aren't using any special attacks or Counter, so switch to a Jolly nature. Put Taunt on it, since it can actually learn that.

2) How do Groudon and Fire Blast help you at all with Latios? Your team has a problem with Latios because everybody on it is slow, with the exception of Mewtwo. I would suggest switching Palkia to a mixed Scarf set so that you can revenge Latios with Outrage or Draco Meteor. This also lets you check Kyogre, which physical Palkia struggles to do.

3) Your team isn't getting very far against stall because you have no mixed attackers, leaving you open to tag teams like Blissey+Giratina. I would suggest switching Dialga to the mixed attacking set, or perhaps Giratina-O so that Forretress doesn't laugh at you.

4) I recommend Jolly Arceus so that you don't have to gamble on any speedties when facing opposing ExtremeKillers. This also makes it harder for Ghost Arceus to get in and burn you, ruining your sweep. You already have both Spikes and Stealth Rock, so the power difference shouldn't be too great. Shadow Force is also an option over Shadow Claw, since it can 2HKO Giratina after a boost, though it is extremely predictable.

Looks like a good solid team to me. I'm sure Arceus is legal now?

If I can make a few suggestions;
Dragon Claw > Outrage on Dialga
Why? Dialga doesn't seem like the late game sweeper on your team, meaning it will be revealed early and there's nothing worse than being locked into an Outrage early into the game; Dragon Claw lets you scout early game for your opponents Dialga counter without potentially wasting a turn with Bulk Up or locking yourself on to Outrage. Minor change, but I feel it works out well in a long run.

A next concern of mine is that your team doesn't have a designated Mixed Wallbreaker. Now, this may not be a problem for you, but with my little experience of playing Ubers I noticed how common Entry Hazards are and how you can't afford to keep constantly switching your sweepers in and out to deal with certain variants of Walls - Physical and Special. So, may I suggest switching your current CB Palkia into a Mixed Palkia. But if you're all for a more Physically orienated sweeper, may I suggest this set;
489.png

Palkia @ Life Orb / Lustrous Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 212 Atk / 252 Spe / 40 SpA
Hasty Nature
- Spacial Rend
- Aura Sphere
- Aqua Tail
- Outrage

Or the standard Scarf'd Mixed Wall breaker which works incredibly well;
489.png

Palkia @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 6 SDef
Timid nature
- Surf
- Spacial Rend
- Thunder
- Draco Meteor

But if you do opt for the original set, I'd actually suggest Fire Blast, a Hasty nature and a Lustrous Orb.

A question about Kyogre, I know its role is to absorb Sleep aimed at it by Darkrai, but doesn't Dialga fit that role anyway? Plus it resists all Darkrai could throw at it. Why not revise the set. Or you could replace that into a CM Latios for your late game sweeper.

On Mewto, may I suggest Flamethrower > Thunder. Just because the rest of your team will absolutely slaughter any team that loses Scizor, Jirachi or Forretress to Mewtwo. I'd also use 26 Atk / 232 Spd / 252 SAtk to make the most out of SD.

If you want a ParaDancer I'd probably replace it with over Arceus, so you can use it on common servers lul

383.png

Groudon @ Leftovers
Ability: Drought
EVs: 200 HP / 112 Atk / 108 Def / 88 Spd
Adamant nature
- Thunder Wave
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake

Good luck ;D!

@-Charmander- I've used this team quite a lot. I put TS up by mistake, it was really Taunt. I wasn't thinking at ALL when I wrote that part. My bad. The Kyogre thing... I didn't think about that. I suppose I'd have to be facing somebody that didn't pay attention, and that wouldn't be worth my time. And again, nobody expects me to have two sleep absorbers. I basically get a free attack when they try to set up.

@twc: Lonely boosts ATK and lowers DEF... I wanted all the power I could get with Extremespeed, since it outspeeds everything that isn't scarfed, and there's no point in me trying to outspeed something that IS scarfed. Groudon and Latios don't really have anything to to with each other, just two points I wanted to make. I actually just got walled by a Blissey/Giratina combo. Dialga shall be edited!

@Wynought: Interesting ideas. I'll test them. Maybe I'll run Flamethrower on Palkia, and use Groudon instead of Kyogre.

I'm assuming Arceus is legal, as I've faced them on multiple occasions.

This is extremely faulty logic. Deoxys-S should NEVER be attacking, except against Deoxys-A, which it will always 2HKO and never OHKO. You should use a Jolly nature to tie against other Deoxys-S so that they will not automatically shut you down with Taunt. Moreover, the defense you trade with Lonely (which has no advantage over Adamant) allows several things to 2HKO which previously couldn't, limiting your hazards count.

For Arceus with EV restrictions, it should really go jolly especially if you have a layer of spikes as it makes the power gain from adamant negligible. Jolly also allows you to outspeed max speed base 90s, which Arceus shoudl always do whether it has EV restrictions or not.

@twc: I just OHKOd a Deoxys-A like 2 hours ago. It wasn't running Focus Sash. I suppose you're right, though. Jolly would allow me a chance to get up more Spikes.

Arceus has been changed to Jolly.

Why do you have Choice Band on a Palkia with only ONE physical attack? It does nothing for you if you use any attack other than Outrage. >_>
Change it to a Scarf.
Also, Palkia doesn't even have a nature, you might want to fix that.

I must say that I can't agree with the suggested 24 Atk / 232 Spd / 252 SAtk Mewtwo spread, as it guarantees that you will be outsped by other Mewtwo, and I'm not terribly sure what purpose 6 more Atk points will do for your Selfdestruct.

Other than that, reading over your original post again, you could try running Superpower over ExtremeSpeed on Deoxys to hit Darkrai, though it doesn't OHKO. A Trick/Scarf Deoxys lead is able to shut down other Deoxys, but you lose the safety of Focus Sash.

Hmmm... I didn't think about that. I actually very rarely face a Mewtwo without Arceus out and a +2 Extremespeed going. It's just always happened like that. I was actually thinking of replacing Mewtwo with a Scarfed Darkrai, which can score the OHKO with Dark Pulse. Mewtwo hasn't been doing as much for me now as he was before.

But don't most Deoxys leads hold the Focus sash? If I trick them, won't I get the sash at full health while they most likely get locked into Taunt? I can hit it with Extremespeed until I can get SR and spikes up, while they are helpless. They could switch, but it's still very likely I'll get up at least SR.

Well, some Deoxys actually run Lum Berry in an attempt to set up Stealth Rock against Darkrai trying to use Dark Void, though they could just as well use Dark Pulse for a OHKO. However, when I said that you would lose the safety of Focus Sash, I meant that with regard to attacking leads that Deoxys would normally set up twice against.

I really like this team. I would really like to have one for my self (I'm just too lazy to trade with people, as I only have Diamond, Pearl and Platinum). I like your Palkia the most, as Outrage and Flamethrower covers alot of the threats in the pokemon metagame. Nice job.

8/10* (Thats good at my scale)

Has no one mentioned that this team has no dragon resist? Ray's DMs will be doing a heck load to your team. You'll have to sack something to take each hit. PLEASE PUT IN jirachi or scizor, etc. Give palkia thunder as it is needed to counter kyogre and leaves a dent on lugia.
