[OVERVIEW]

Tentacruel is the most reliable spinner in the tier, as it can absorb Toxic Spikes thanks to its secondary Poison typing and is neutral to Stealth Rock; however, it fails to be as consistent against Spikes-stacking teams, as it takes more damage from Spikes. Its somewhat unique typing makes it a reliable check to Pokemon such as Cobalion, Infernape, and Doublade. Tentacruel's decent special bulk means that, even uninvested, it is able to take most special attacks with ease. It can also get past potential spinblockers by hitting Chandelure super effectively with its Water-type STAB moves or crippling Doublade and Sableye by burning them with Scald. Tentacruel also has an excellent Speed stat and coverage to run an effective offensive set that breaks through many of its counters, and its useful Fairy resistance allows it to fit more easily on certain teams that may be weak to Florges or Sylveon. However, Tentacruel's below average 80 / 65 physical bulk means that powerful physical attackers can break through it more easily, even with resisted attacks; most notably, it prevents it from being a reliable Fire-type check despite being a Water-type, since Pokemon such as Entei and Swords Dance Infernape can power through and wear it down with burns in the former's case.

move 4: Haze / Acid Spray
item: Black Sludge
ability: Liquid Ooze
nature: Bold
evs: 240 HP / 244 Def / 24 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Rapid Spin allows Tentacruel to get rid of entry hazards. Scald gives Tentacruel a nice STAB move that allows it to cripple physical attackers trying to take advantage of its lower defensive stat. Toxic Spikes allows Tentacruel to support the team by putting the foe on a timer. Haze gives Tentacruel a way to check setup sweepers such as Calm Mind Florges and Swords Dance Toxicroak with ease. Acid Spray can be used instead to force switches thanks to the Special Defense drops and rack up Toxic damage in conjunction with Toxic Spikes. It also gives Tentacruel a more reliable way to beat Sableye.

Set Details
========

Black Sludge gives Tentacruel a form of passive recovery. 24 Speed EVs allow Tentacruel to outspeed maximum Speed Adamant Honchkrow, while the remaining EVs are dumped into HP and Defense to allow Tentacruel to take resisted hits better. A Bold nature further bolsters Tentacruel's less-than-stellar Defense stat. Liquid Ooze allows Tentacruel to check certain Grass-types, such as Celebi lacking a Psychic STAB move more easily as well as punish Pokemon trying to drain its HP such as Toxicroak. Other Speed benchmarks Tentacruel can hit, with a Timid nature, are 96 Speed EVs to outspeed Mamoswine and Chandelure, 136 EVs to outspeed Nidoking and Heracross, and 148 to outspeed Adamant Entei. It is possible to run a set with an EV spread of 248 HP / 132 Def / 104 SpD / 24 Spe and a Calm nature to more reliably take on certain threats on stall and slower balanced teams such as SubCM Chandelure while making use of Tentacruel's decent special bulk.

Usage Tips
========

Tentacruel is best used on more balanced or defensive teams, as its lack of power and bulk means it can't hit Pokemon hard or tank hits as well as it wants to. Scald is Tentacruel's way of dealing damage, but its mediocre Special Attack stat prevents it from OHKOing even targets that are hit super effectively such as Krookodile and Mamoswine. Be careful when switching it in on powerful physical attackers like Entei, as even resisted hits can deal a lot of damage to it.

Team Options
========

Steel-types such as Escavalier and Doublade are really good partners for Tentacruel, as they provide some defensive synergy, making for a very potent and balanced core. Clerics such as Florges and Sylveon can not only get rid of status such as burns, which Tentacruel hates, but they can also take care of most Fighting-types that it can't while also providing Tentacruel with Wish support, allowing it to stick around throughout the match. Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Krookodile can be very effective partners for Tentacruel, as they provide amazing defensive synergy by granting a Psychic immunity and are able to break through bulky Psychic-types that Tentacruel has trouble with such as Cresselia and Reuniclus. Ground-types such as Mamoswine and Gligar provide an Electric immunity and appreciate Tentacruel's ability to wear down bulkier Pokemon with Toxic Spikes. Swampert is a really nice option, as it can provide Stealth Rock support, and it is a better Fire-type check despite sharing a Water typing with Tentacruel. Sableye can reliably break stall with Taunt and spinblock for Tentacruel, allowing both of them to pressure the opponent. Snorlax is another good partner for Tentacruel, as it can hard check Entei without stacking weaknesses with Tentacruel. Tentacruel also checks Infernape and Cobalion for Snorlax while providing Toxic Spikes. Setup sweepers, such as Swords Dance Cobalion and Calm Mind Cresselia, appreciate the Toxic Spikes support, as it allows them to break past bulky Pokemon they otherwise couldn't such as Suicune.

[SET]
name: Offensive
move 1: Hydro Pump
move 2: Sludge Bomb
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Rapid Spin / Toxic Spikes
item: Black Sludge / Expert Belt
ability: Clear Body
nature: Timid
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Hydro Pump allows Tentacruel to hit as hard as possible against Fire-types such as Entei and Chandelure. Sludge Bomb gives Tentacruel a powerful STAB move for opposing Grass- and Fairy-types such as Celebi, Shaymin, and Sylveon. It also allows Tentacruel to hit Water-types fairly hard while threatening them with a chance to poison. Ice Beam is Tentacruel's best coverage move, as it hits opposing Dragon-types such as Hydreigon and Salamence super effectively. Rapid Spin allows Tentacruel to support the team by getting rid of entry hazards. Toxic Spikes can be used if the team itself doesn't require entry hazard control to break bulkier teams. Acid Spray is another option over Sludge Bomb to allow Tentacruel to force out Calm Mind Florges and Sylveon, as Sludge Bomb will do less damage over time. It also gives Tentacruel a reliable way of breaking Sableye. Dazzling Gleam is another option that, when coupled with Expert Belt, can 2HKO Sableye and OHKO Hydreigon.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs alongside a Timid nature allow Tentacruel to make use of its base 100 Speed stat to outspeed threats that could otherwise revenge kill it such as Krookodile and Hydreigon while also keeping up with other positive-natured base 100s such as Salamence. Black Sludge allows Tentacruel to keep its passive recovery and tank resisted hits. Expert Belt, on the other hand, allows Tentacruel to deal more damage to targets that are hit super effectively. Shuca Berry can also provide Tentacruel the ability to tank one Ground-type attack and fire off a powerful Hydro Pump. Clear Body allows Tentacruel to be unaffected by stat drops from Sticky Web or Florges's Moonblast.

Usage Tips
========

Tentacruel should be used on more offensive teams that are in need of a Pokemon to remove entry hazards. Tentacruel should only be switching into resisted or neutral special hits, as any strong physical hit will put a major dent into it. Tentacruel should also be more careful when getting rid of entry hazards, as it lacks bulk investment, so it can't stay in the match for long.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that dislike entry hazards such as Salamence, Sylveon, and Mega Aerodactyl appreciate Tentacruel's ability to get rid of Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes while still keeping up the offensive pressure. On the other hand, these same offensive Pokemon also appreciate Toxic Spikes support to break past bulky Pokemon such as Swampert and Porygon2. Stealth Rock users such as Metagross, Cobalion, and Krookodile are nice additions, as Tentacruel can beat Pokemon that otherwise threaten them such as opposing Krookodile, Nidoqueen, Nidoking, and Mamoswine. Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Mega Absol can take care of Psychic-types for Tentacruel, while Tentacruel can use its Poison-type STAB moves to deal with Fairies. Ground-types such as Mamoswine provide a more reliable answer to Fire-types while sporting an Electric immunity. Mega Swampert is also an option, as it appreciates Tentacruel's ability to get rid of hazards, and Tentacruel can take advantage of the rain Mega Swampert sets if necessary.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Knock Off allows Tentacruel to get rid of the foe's item. Giga Drain allows Tentacruel to have some form of recovery on the offensive set outside of Black Sludge while netting super effective coverage on opposing Water-types; however, a non-STAB Grass-type move is doing little to no damage to even bulky super effective targets. Swords Dance is a weird option that can work due to sheer surprise factor, but Tentacruel is normally outclassed as a Swords Dance user by Crawdaunt and Feraligatr except for the fact that it has a better Speed tier.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Psychic-types**: Reuniclus has Magic Guard to prevent them from being whittled down by status and can OHKO Tentacruel with their STAB moves. Gardevoir can also threaten Tentacruel despite being a Fairy-type with its Psychic-type STAB moves.

**Scald Switch-ins**: Heliolisk and Toxicroak both threaten Tentacruel, as they are immune to Scald. Heliolisk can also hit Tentacruel super effectively with its Electric-type STAB moves.

**Guts Users**: Heracross and Conkeldurr love being burned by Scald or poisoned by Toxic Spikes, as it boosts their Attack and allows them to overpower Tentacruel despite its resistance to their STAB moves.

**Powerful Physical Attackers**: Choice Band Entei can 3HKO even defensive Tentacruel with Sacred Fire, crippling Tentacruel with a burn, while Mega Aerodactyl 2HKOes with Earthquake. Krookodile and Mamoswine can also outspeed and OHKO defensive Tentacruel, but offensive Tentacruel takes on all of these Pokemon bar Mega Aerodactyl.

**Bulky Water-types**: Suicune and Milotic can beat Tentacruel one-on-one with Scald and recover off any damage from Tentacruel's Scald or take advantage of Scald's burn in Milotic's case. Slowking is also one of the most reliable answers to Tentacruel, as it has the special bulk to tank Scalds, takes little from an uninvested Knock Off, and has Regenerator + Slack Off to keep itself healthy.

Ok I think this is ok for QC. I will admit I haven't had too much experience with offensive Tentacruel (maybe Hikari can chime in?) so that set may be lacking more than I thought, but I tried to cover all the points. Also I feel like OO needs more...options, but other than that this is ready for QC.
Also this is my 1.8k so there's that...

In the intro, remove the part about removing Doublade's Eviolite, since Knock Off isn't listed anywhere but OO. Just say that it threatens Chandelure, Doublade, and Sableye with Scald.

Defensive set Team Options: Florges/Sylveon can generally take care of most Fighting types that Tentacruel can't, and can provide Wish support. Snorlax is a good Entei counter that doesn't stack weaknesses with Tentacruel, Tentacruel can check Infernape, Doublade, and Cobalion and give Toxic Spikes for Sableye. You should also absolutely include Alakazam checks.

For the offensive set, TSpikes > Rapid Spin can work if the team doesn't really require hazard removal, so slash that (adjust Team Options appropriately). Also, Expert Belt should definitely be slashed onto this set and I believe Shuca Berry should get mentioned in the comments. Clear Body should be the only ability listed here. Say that Sludge Bomb hits offensive Water types fairly hard and threatens to Poison them. Team Options: I've been liking SR Metagross as a teammate, they have nice synergy as a hazard core especially since Tentacruel can "lure" (not sure if it still counts as a lure at this point, but at least beat) krookodile, Mamoswine, and Nidoqueen/King. Krook and Cobalion both work as other SR teammates.

Giga Drain in OO.

Checks and Counters should have powerful physical attacks. Entei can 3HKO defensive ones with Sacred Fire making Tentacruel not a reliable switchin, Mega Aero 2HKOs etc. Bulky Water types should also go here as most can 1v1 Tentacruel with Scald and recover off any damage from Tentacruel's Scald.

Looks good, get rid of the part about Sylveon in the intro and just say it had a useful Fairy resistance instead. Also, the first two bullet points in set details of offensive are extremely similar, maybe switch the second one a little bit. After that, 1/3.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Tentacruel is the most reliable spinner in the tier as it can absorb Toxic Spikes thanks to its secondary Poison typing and is neutral to Stealth Rock.
  • It can also get past potential spinblockers by hitting Chandelure super effectively with its Water-type STAB or crippling Doublade and Sableye by burning them with Scald.
  • Its offensive set allows it to take advantage of its great base 100 Speed stat and its decent coverage, nailing things it normally wouldn't outspeed such as Krookodile, Hydreigon and Mamoswine. This is worded a bit awkwardly. I'd instead just say that it has a great Speed and excellent coverage, allowing it to run an offensive set that breaks through many of its counters.
  • Tentacruel has a useful Fairy resistance that allows it to fit more easily on certain teams.
  • Despite being a Water-type, it isn't the most reliable Fire-type check thanks to its below average 80/65 physical bulk which means not only can it not check Fire-types, but that powerful physical attackers it could potentially hit super effectively such as Krookodile and Mamoswine can get around it more easily coupled with its weakness to their Ground-type STAB moves. Again, I'd fix the wording here and instead say that its below average physical bulk means strong physical attackers can break through it, even with resisted attacks.

Moves
========
  • Rapid Spin allows Tentacruel to get rid of entry hazards.
  • Scald gives Tentacruel a nice STAB move that allows it to cripple physical attackers trying to take advantage of its weaker defensive stat.
  • Toxic Spikes allows Tentacruel to support the team by putting the foe on a timer.
  • Haze gives Tentacruel a way to check setup sweepers such as Calm Mind Florges and Swords Dance Toxicroak with ease.
  • Acid Spray can be used instead to force switches thanks to the Special Defense drop, and rack up Toxic damage in conjunction with Toxic Spikes. Mention that Acid Spray is its best way of beating Sableye.
  • Mention somewhere that its typing makes it a reliable check to 'mons like Cobalion, Infernape and Doublade.

Set Details
========
  • Black Sludge gives Tentacruel a form of passive recovery.
  • 24 Speed EVs allows Tentacruel to outspeed Max Speed Adamant Honchkrow while the rest is dumped into HP and Defense to allow Tentacruel to take resisted hits better.
  • Bold nature further bolsters Tentacruel's less than stellar Defense stat.
  • Liquid Ooze allows Tentacruel to check certain Grass-types, such as Celebi lacking a Psychic STAB, easier as well as punish Pokemon trying to drain its HP.
  • Mention that it is possible to run a Calm set to more reliably take on certain threats such as SubCM Chandelure. (248 HP/132 Def/104+ SpDf/24 Speed is what I generally see on Calm Tentacruel - not sure if someone has a better spread.)
Usage Tips
========
  • Tentacruel is best used on more balanced or defensive teams as its lack of power and bulk means it can't hit Pokemon hard or tank hits as well as it wants to. (Considering that Tentacruel is kind of a staple on stall teams I think it doesn't make sense to imply it only works on balance.)
  • Scald is Tentacruel's way of dealing damage, but its mediocre Special Attack stat fails to OHKO super effective targets such as Krookodile and Mamoswine.
  • It should be careful switching it in on powerful physical attackers like Entei, as even resisted hits can deal a lot of damage to it.

Team Options
========
  • Alakazam checks such as Escavalier and Doublade are really good partners for Tentacruel as they not only get rid of the biggest threat to it, but they also provide some defensive synergy making for a very potent and balanced core.
  • Fairy-types such as Florges and Sylveon can take care of most Fighting-types that Tentacruel can't while providing it with Wish support, allowing it to continue throughout the match. I might change this to cleric support in general, especially as Tentacruel hates being whittled down by burn.
  • Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Krookodile can be very effective partners for Tentacruel as they not only providing amazing defensive synergy by providing a Psychic immunity, but they also are able to break through said Psychic-types Tentacruel has trouble with. Eh - I don't really love this one. I do think Hydreigon and Krook make decent partners, but I actually don't think either one is that fantastic an answer to Alakazam, which can usually switch in freely to non-Knock Off Tentacruel. Instead just mention that both have great type-synergy with Tentacruel and if you mention breaking through Psychics at all, talk about Cress/Reuni so that people don't think you're implying that Krook is suddenly a Zam counter.
  • Ground types such as Mamoswine and Gligar provide an Electric immunity and appreciates Tentacruel's ability to wear down bulkier Pokemon with Toxic Spikes. Swampert is a really nice option as it can provide Stealth Rock support, as well as being a better Fire-type check despite sharing a Water typing with Tentacruel.
  • Sableye can reliably break stall with Taunt and spinblock for Tentacruel, allowing both of them to pressure the opponent. Tentacruel also checks Infernape, Doublade, and Cobalion for Sableye while providing Toxic Spikes. Since when does Doublade need to be checked for Sableye? Sableye usually doesn't have any problem with Doublade. (Or with Cobalion usually either, although the rising popularity of Lum Berry Coba I guess changes things a bit.)
  • Snorlax is another good partner for Tentacruel as it can hard check Entei while not compounding weaknesses with Tentacruel. On the other hand, HERE I'd mention Tentacruel's ability to check Doublade/Cobalion, rather than in the above section, as that's a huge part of why Tentacruel + Snorlax is so good.
  • Setup sweepers, such as Swords Dance Cobalion or Calm Mind Cresselia, appreciate the Toxic Spikes support as it allows them to break past bulky Pokemon they otherwise couldn't such as Suicune.

Again, Acid Spray is also useful for beating Sableye, as Hydro Pump only does 47% max and can easily be Recover-stalled out while Sableye fishes for a miss.
  • Dazzling Gleam is a decent option as well - with an Expert Belt it 2HKOs Sableye and OHKOs Hydreigon. (Fine with this being either here or on OO, as long as it is clear it's only useful on offensive Tenta.)

  • Giga Drain

Checks and Counters
===================

**Psychic-types**: Reuniclus and Alakazam have Magic Guard to not be whittled down by status and OHKO with their STAB moves. Gardevoir can also threaten Tentacruel despite being a Fairy-type due to it having Psychic STAB.

**Electric-types**: Heliolisk and Rotom-Mow both threaten Tentacruel with their STAB moves and are immune or resist Scald respectively. Heliolisk also sports a nice immunity to Tentacruel's Scald, making it the most reliable Electric-type since Rotom-Mow fears Tentacruel's Poison STAB.

**Guts Users**: Heracross and Conkeldurr love being burned by Scald or being poisoned by Toxic Spikes as it boosts their Attack and allows them to overpower Tentacruel despite their STABs being resisted.

**Powerful Physical Attackers**: Choice Band Entei can 3HKO even defensive Tentacruel with Sacred Fire, crippling Tentacruel with a burn, while Mega Aerodactyl 2HKOs with Earthquake.

Not sure if Slowking counts as a Psychic type or a bulky Water, but as it is one of the best answers to Tentacruel around, it might deserve a mention.

Everything was implemented although I moved the typing comment into the Overview and I am not completely set on the Calm set since I have never seen it but I added it in anyways and maybe some other QC will give their input.

Will write this up soon.

Shouldn't Toxicroak would be mentioned on C&C? Since the Offensive Set can't do too much versus it and the Defensive Set can't touch it anyway.
Also, ground types are still dangerous to Tentacruel, am I wrong?

I added Ground-types to the "Powerful Physical Attackers" section since the ones that beat the defensive set are slower than the offensive set, meaning that they can lose 1v1. Also not sure if Toxicroak deserves its own section so maybe I can shift Heliolisk from "Electric types" and make a "Dry Skin Users" section, but I will see what QC has to say.

Anyways, this is written.

[OVERVIEW]

Fine for the most part. I'd give more emphasis to Tentacruel's below average physical bulk and that it shouldn't be used as a team's only check to Pokemon like Entei and Heracross. Also, it's important to note that it takes damage from Spikes, which makes it harder to use Rapid Spin consistently against teams that rely on those.

Utility

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves

Honestly, I believe that Knock Off is worth a mention in moves (but not a slash), as it's not uncommon for Tentacruel to trade Scalds against other Water-type Pokemon, and being able to chip them away faster by removing their Leftovers is huge (it's true that you can Acid Spray opposing Tentacruel, but you can't do that against Specially Defensive Empoleon, which is starting to receive usage again because of Sylveon). It also has utility outside of that though, but that goes without saying, since it's Knock Off we're talking about here.

Set Details

Liquid Ooze also helps against Toxicroak, which is worth noting, as it is forced to Gunk Shot instead of recovering its HP for free on Tentacruel.

The Calm EV spread usually finds its place on stall or slower balance teams. Note that this doesn't have much relevancy, but it could probably receive a brief mention.

Mention that Adamant Honchkrow isn't the only benchmark Tentacruel can aim for. Some teams benefit a lot of making their Tentacruel faster than Mamoswine for example. I don't know the EV spreads by heart though, so you'll have to do some research of your own or simply skip this point.

Usage Tips

Fine.

Team Options

Same as above.

========

Offensive

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves

I think Rotom-Heat is a meh Fire-type mention, considering there are more relevant Fire-type Pokemon in the tier, such as Infernape and Chandelure. Everything else is OK though.

Set Details

I don't think you missed anything here.

Usage Tips

"Tentacruel shouldn't get rid of entry hazards until the foe's entry hazard setter is removed."

I don't agree with this part. It's true that Offensive Tentacruel has to be a lot more careful, as it can't afford to give away free turns by clicking Rapid Spin the same way the Utility set can. However, that doesn't mean that you should remove the opposing hazard setter before clicking Rapid Spin. It all depends on the way the game flows, and sometimes it's worth it to sacrifice Tentacruel to get a Rapid Spin off if it means something like Salamence can get a set up opportunity thanks to that.

Team Options

I think you've covered everything regarding the kind of teams Offensive Tentacruel is often seen on, so good job.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options

If you decide to include Knock Off in the Utility's set moves then you can remove it from this part. I've seen Swords Dance Tentacruel put in some work due to sheer surprise factor, so you could mention that along with the fact it's a novelty set that relies on said surprise factor and is usually outclassed by Crawdaunt and Feraligatr, although it has more speed to work with.

Checks and Counters

So, you have two options here: You either give Toxicroak its own section or you edit the Electric-type part of C&C in a way that Toxicroak can be included (i.e. Scald switch ins, since Rotom-Heat is an Electric-type that can be brought in on Tentacruel, you know the drill). I think both options are fine and I trust you to make a good decision.

RE: sets that outspeed Mamo, the three Speed benchmarks you should be looking at are 96+ to outspeed Mamoswine/Chandy, 136+ to outspeed Nidoking/Hera, 148+ to outspeed Entei. The middle one is the one I've personally toyed with (252 HP/120 Def/136+ Speed), but YMMV. Only really works if you have another dedicated bulky Water like Alomomola or Swampert, as it really restricts what Tenta can switch into.

[OVERVIEW]

Tentacruel is the most reliable spinner in the tier, (AC) as it can absorb Toxic Spikes thanks to its secondary Poison typing and is neutral to Stealth Rock; however, it fails to be as consistent against Spikestack Spikes-stacking teams as it takes more damage from those. Its somewhat unique typing makes it a reliable check to Pokemon such as Cobalion, Infernape, (AC) and Doublade. Tentacruel's decent special bulk means that, even uninvested, it is able to take on most special attacks with ease. It can also get past potential spinblockers by hitting Chandelure super effectively with its Water-type STAB moves or crippling Doublade and Sableye by burning them with Scald. Tentacruel also has an excellent Speed stat and coverage allows it to run an effective offensive set that breaks through many of its counters, (comma) It has a and its useful Fairy resistance that allows it to fit more easily on certain teams that may be weak to Florges or Sylveon. However, Tentacruel's below average 80 / 65 (spaces) physical bulk means that powerful physical attackers can break through it more easily, even with resisted attacks; (SC) meaning it isn't most notably, it prevents it from being a reliable Fire-type check despite being a Water-type, (AC) since Pokemon such as Entei and SD Swords Dance Infernape can power through and wear it down with burns in the former's case.

Moves

Rapid Spin allows Tentacruel to get rid of entry hazards. Scald gives Tentacruel a nice STAB move that allows it to cripple physical attackers trying to take advantage of its weaker defensive stat. Toxic Spikes allows Tentacruel to support the team by putting the foe on a timer. Haze gives Tentacruel a way to check setup sweepers such as Calm Mind Florges and Swords Dance Toxicroak with ease. Acid Spray can be used instead to force switches thanks to the Special Defense drop (RC) and rack up Toxic damage in conjunction with Toxic Spikes. It also gives Tentacruel a more reliable way to beat Sableye.

Set Details

Black Sludge gives Tentacruel a form of passive recovery. 24 Speed EVs allows Tentacruel to outspeed Max maximum Speed Adamant Honchkrow, b(AC) while the rest is dumped into HP and Defense to allow Tentacruel to take resisted hits better. A Bold nature further bolsters Tentacruel's less-than-stellar (AH) Defense stat. Liquid Ooze allows Tentacruel to check certain Grass-types, such as Celebi lacking a Psychic STAB move, easier more easily as well as punish Pokemon trying to drain its HP such as Toxicroak. Other Speed benchmarks Tentacruel can hit, with a Timid nature, are outspeeding Mamoswine and Chandelure with 96 Speed EVs, 136 EVs to outspeed Nidoking and Heracross, and 148 to outspeed Adamant Entei. It is possible to run a Calm set with an EV spread of 248 HP / 132 Def / 104 SpD / 24 Spe (spaces) EVs to more reliably take on certain threats on stall and slower balanced teams such as SubCM Chandelure while making use of Tentacruel's decent special bulk.

Usage Tips
========

Tentacruel is best used on more balanced or defensive teams, (AC) as its lack of power and bulk means it can't hit Pokemon hard or tank hits as well as it wants to. Scald is Tentacruel's way of dealing damage, but its mediocre Special Attack stat fails to OHKO prevents it from OHKOing even super effective targets such as Krookodile and Mamoswine. It should be careful switching it in on powerful physical attackers like Entei, as even resisted hits can deal a lot of damage to it.

Team Options
========

Alakazam checks such as Escavalier and Doublade are really good partners for Tentacruel, (AC) as they not only get rid of the biggest threat to it (RC) but they also provide some defensive synergy, (AC) making for a very potent and balanced core. Cleric support Clerics such as Florges and Sylveon can not only get rid of status such as burns, which as Tentacruel hates burns, but they can also take care of most Fighting-types that it can't while also providing Tentacruel with Wish support, allowing it to continue stick around throughout the match. Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Krookodile can be very effective partners for Tentacruel, (AC) as they not only providing amazing defensive synergy by providing a Psychic immunity (RC) but they also are able to break through bulky Psychic-types such as Cresselia and Reuniclus that Tentacruel has trouble with. Ground-types (AH) such as Mamoswine and Gligar provide an Electric immunity and appreciates appreciate Tentacruel's ability to wear down bulkier Pokemon with Toxic Spikes. Swampert is a really nice option, (AC) as it can provide Stealth Rock support, as well as being a better Fire-type check despite sharing a Water typing with Tentacruel. Sableye can reliably break stall with Taunt and spinblock for Tentacruel, allowing both of them to pressure the opponent. Snorlax is another good partner for Tentacruel, (AC) as it can hard check Entei while not compounding without stacking weaknesses with Tentacruel. Tentacruel also checks Infernape and Cobalion for Snorlax while providing Toxic Spikes. Setup sweepers, such as Swords Dance Cobalion or and Calm Mind Cresselia, appreciate the Toxic Spikes support, (AC) as it allows them to break past bulky Pokemon they otherwise couldn't such as Suicune.

Moves
========

It also allows Tentacruel to hit Water-types fairly hard while threatening them with a chance of poison. Ice Beam is Tentacruel's best coverage move, (AC) as it nets coverage hits against opposing Dragon-types such as Hydreigon and Salamence super effectively. (or anything less repetitive) Rapid Spin allows Tentacruel to still support the team by getting rid of entry hazards. Toxic Spikes can be used if the team itself doesn't require entry hazard control to break bulkier teams. Acid Spray is another option over Sludge Bomb to allow Tentacruel to force out Calm Mind Florges and Sylveon, (AC) as Sludge Bomb will do less damage over time. It also gives Tentacruel a reliable way of breaking Sableye. Dazzling Gleam is another option that, when coupled with Expert Belt, can 2HKO Sableye and OHKO Hydreigon.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs alongisde alongside a Timid nature allows allow Tentacruel to make use of its base 100 Speed stat to outspeed things threats that could otherwise revenge kill it such as Krookodile and Hydreigon while also keeping up with other positive-natured (AH) base 100s such as Salamence. Black Sludge allows Tentacruel to keep its passive recovery and tank resisted hits. Expert Belt, on the other hand, allows Tentacruel to hit harder against super effective targets. Shuca Berry can also provide Tentacruel the ability to tank one Ground-type attack and fire off a powerful Hydro Pump. Clear Body allows Tentacruel to be unaffected by stat drops from Sticky Web or Florges's Moonblast.

Usage Tips
========

Tentacruel should be used on more offensive teams that are in need of a way to remove entry hazards. Tentacruel should only be switching into resisted or neutral special hits, (AC) as without any investment, any strong physical hit, even resisted, will put a major dent into Tentacruel. Tentacruel should also be more careful when getting rid of entry hazards, (AC) as it lacks the bulk of the Utility set investment, (no cross-referencing) so it can't stay in the match as long.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that dislike entry hazards such as Salamence, Sylveon, and Mega Aerodactyl appreciate Tentacruel's ability to get rid of Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes while still keeping up the offensive pressure. On the other hand, these same offensive Pokemon also appreciate Toxic Spikes support to break the bulky Pokemon such as Swampert and Porygon2. Stealth Rock users such as Metagross, Cobalion, and Krookodile are nice additions, (AC) as Tentacruel can beat Pokemon that otherwise threaten them such as opposiong Krookodile, Nidoqueen, Nidoking, and Mamoswine. Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Mega Absol can take care of the Psychic-types for Tentacruel, (AC) while Tentacruel can use its Poison STAB moves to take care of Fairies. Ground types such as Mamoswine provide a more reliable answer to Fire-types while sporting an Electric immunity. Mega Swampert is also an option, (AC) as it appreciates Tentacruel's ability to get rid of hazards and Tentacruel can abuse take advantage of the rain Mega Swampert sets if necessary.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Knock Off allows Tentacruel to get rid of the opposing foe's item while also preventing Alakazam from switching in freely. Giga Drain allows Tentacruel to have some form of recovery on the offensive set outside of Black Sludge while netting super effective coverage on opposing Water-types; however, an unSTABed non-STAB Grass-type move is doing little to no damage to even bulky super effective targets. Swords Dance is a weird option that can work due to sheer surprise factor, but it is normally outclassed by Crawdaunt and Feraligatr except for the fact that it has a better Speed tier.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Psychic-types**: Reuniclus and Alakazam have Magic Guard to not be whittled down by status and can OHKO Tentacruel with their STAB moves. Gardevoir can also threaten Tentacruel despite being a Fairy-type due to it having with its Psychic STAB moves.

**Scald Switch-ins**: Heliolisk and Toxicroak both threaten Tentacruel, (AC) as they are immune to Scald. Heliolisk can also hit Tentacruel super effectively with its Electric-type STAB moves.

**Guts Users**: Heracross and Conkeldurr love being burned by Scald or being poisoned by Toxic Spikes, (AC) as it boosts their Attack and allows them to overpower Tentacruel despite its resistance to their STAB moves being resisted.

**Powerful Physical Attackers**: Choice Band Entei can 3HKO even defensive Tentacruel with Sacred Fire, crippling Tentacruel with a burn, while Mega Aerodactyl 2HKOs 2HKOes with Earthquake. Krookodile and Mamoswine can also outspeed and OHKO defensive Tentacruel, but offensive Tentacruel takes on all of these Pokemon bar Mega Aerodactyl.

**Bulky Water-types**: Suicune and Milotic can 1v1 beat Tentacruel one-on-one with Scald and recover off any damage from Tentacruel's Scald or take advantage of Scald's burn in Milotic's case. Slowking is also one of the most reliable answers to Tentacruel, (AC) as it has the special bulk to tank Scalds, takes little from an uninvested Knock Off, and has Regenerator + Slack Off to keep itself healthy.

It also allows Tentacruel to hit Water-types fairly hard while threatening them with a chance of to poison. Ice Beam is Tentacruel's best coverage move, as it hits against opposing Dragon-types such as Hydreigon and Salamence super effectively.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

Tentacruel should be used on more offensive teams that are in need of a way Pokemon (Comment: Tentacruel isn't a "way") to remove entry hazards. Tentacruel should only be switching into resisted or neutral special hits, as without any investment, any strong physical hit, even resisted, will put a major dent into Tentacruel. (Comment: too much commas in this sentence) Tentacruel should also be more careful when getting rid of entry hazards, as it lacks bulk investment, so it can't stay in the match as long.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that dislike entry hazards such as Salamence, Sylveon, and Mega Aerodactyl appreciate Tentacruel's ability to get rid of Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes while still keeping up the offensive pressure. On the other hand, these same offensive Pokemon also appreciate Toxic Spikes support to break the past bulky Pokemon such as Swampert and Porygon2. Stealth Rock users such as Metagross, Cobalion, and Krookodile are nice additions, as Tentacruel can beat Pokemon that otherwise threaten them such as opposiong opposing Krookodile, Nidoqueen, Nidoking, and Mamoswine. Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Mega Absol can take care of the Psychic-types for Tentacruel, while Tentacruel can use its Poison Poison-type STAB moves to take care of Fairies. Ground types Ground-types such as Mamoswine provide a more reliable answer to Fire-types while sporting an Electric immunity. Mega Swampert is also an option, as it appreciates Tentacruel's ability to get rid of hazards hazards, [add comma] and Tentacruel can take advantage of the rain Mega Swampert sets if necessary.

Other Options

Knock Off allows Tentacruel to get rid of the foe's item while also preventing Alakazam from switching in freely. Giga Drain allows Tentacruel to have some form of recovery on the offensive set outside of Black Sludge while netting super effective coverage on opposing Water-types; however, an a non-STAB Grass-type move is doing little to no damage to even bulky super effective targets. Swords Dance is a weird option that can work due to sheer surprise factor, but it is normally outclassed by Crawdaunt and Feraligatr except for the fact that it has a better Speed tier.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Psychic-types**: Reuniclus and Alakazam have Magic Guard to not be prevent them from being (Comment: "to not be" sounds weird) whittled down by status and can OHKO Tentacruel with their STAB moves. Gardevoir can also threaten Tentacruel despite being a Fairy-type with its Psychic Psychic-type (Comment: consistency reasons) STAB moves.

**Scald Switch-ins**: Heliolisk and Toxicroak both threaten Tentacruel, as they are immune to Scald. Heliolisk can also hit Tentacruel super effectively with its Electric-type STAB moves.

**Guts Users**: Heracross and Conkeldurr love being burned by Scald or being poisoned by Toxic Spikes, as it boosts their Attack and allows them to overpower Tentacruel despite its resistance to their STAB moves.

[OVERVIEW]

Tentacruel is the most reliable spinner in the tier, as it can absorb Toxic Spikes thanks to its secondary Poison typing and is neutral to Stealth Rock; however, it fails to be as consistent against Spikes-stacking teams teams, [add comma] as it takes more damage from those. Spikes. (Comment: Original implied that it takes damage from Spikes-stacking teams; spoke to you on PS!, this was not what you were trying to imply.) Its somewhat unique typing makes it a reliable check to Pokemon such as Cobalion, Infernape, and Doublade.

Rapid Spin allows Tentacruel to get rid of entry hazards. Scald gives Tentacruel a nice STAB move that allows it to cripple physical attackers trying to take advantage of its weaker lower defensive stat. Toxic Spikes allows Tentacruel to support the team by putting the foe on a timer. Haze gives Tentacruel a way to check setup sweepers such as Calm Mind Florges and Swords Dance Toxicroak with ease. Acid Spray can be used instead to force switches thanks to the Special Defense drop and rack up Toxic damage in conjunction with Toxic Spikes. It also gives Tentacruel a more reliable way to beat Sableye.

Set Details
========

Black Sludge gives Tentacruel a form of passive recovery. 24 Speed EVs allows allow Tentacruel to outspeed maximum Speed Adamant Honchkrow, while the rest is dumped into HP and Defense to allow Tentacruel to take resisted hits better. Other Speed benchmarks Tentacruel can hit, with a Timid nature, are outspeeding 96 Speed EVs to outspeed Mamoswine and Chandelure Chandelure, with 96 Speed EVs, 136 EVs to outspeed Nidoking and Heracross, and 148 to outspeed Adamant Entei. It is possible to run a Calm set with and EV spread of 248 HP / 132 Def / 104 SpD / 24 Spe to more reliably take on certain threats on stall and slower balanced teams such as SubCM Chandelure while making use of Tentacruel's decent special bulk.

Usage Tips
========

Tentacruel is best used on more balanced or defensive teams, as its lack of power and bulk means it can't hit Pokemon hard or tank hits as well as it wants to. Scald is Tentacruel's only (Comment: optional) way of dealing damage, but its mediocre Special Attack stat prevents it from OHKOing even super effective targets such as Krookodile and Mamoswine. It should be careful switching it in on powerful physical attackers like Entei, as even resisted hits can deal a lot of damage to it.

Team Options
========

Alakazam checks such as Escavalier and Doublade are really good partners for Tentacruel, as they not only get rid of the biggest threat to it, but also provide some defensive synergy, making for a very potent and balanced core. Clerics such as Florges and Sylveon can not only get rid of status such as burns, which Tentacruel hates, but they can also take care of most Fighting-types that it can't while also providing Tentacruel with Wish support, allowing it to stick around throughout the match. Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Krookodile can be very effective partners for Tentacruel, as they not only providing provide amazing defensive synergy by providing granting (Comment: or any other word besides providing) a Psychic immunity but also are able to break through bulky Psychic-types that Tentacruel has trouble with such as Cresselia and Reuniclus Reuniclus. that Tentacruel has trouble with. Clerics such as Florges and Sylveon can not only get rid of status such as burns, which Tentacruel hates, but they can also take care of most Fighting-types that it can't while also providing Tentacruel with Wish support, allowing it to stick around throughout the match. Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Krookodile can be very effective partners for Tentacruel, as they not only provide amazing defensive synergy by granting a Psychic immunity but also and are able to break through bulky Psychic-types that Tentacruel has trouble with such as Cresselia and Reuniclus. Ground-types such as Mamoswine and Gligar provide an Electric immunity and appreciate Tentacruel's ability to wear down bulkier Pokemon with Toxic Spikes. Swampert is a really nice option, as it can provide Stealth Rock support, as well as a and it is better Fire-type check despite sharing a Water typing with Tentacruel.

Moves
========

Set Details
========

Expert Belt, on the other hand, allows Tentacruel to deal more damage to hit harder against super effective targets that are hit super effectively. Shuca Berry can also provide Tentacruel the ability to tank one Ground-type attack and fire off a powerful Hydro Pump. Clear Body allows Tentacruel to be unaffected by stat drops from Sticky Web or Florges's Moonblast.

Usage Tips
========

Tentacruel should be used on more offensive teams that are in need of a Pokemon to remove entry hazards. Tentacruel should only be switching into resisted or neutral special hits, as any strong physical hit will put a major dent into it Tentacruel. Tentacruel should also be more careful when getting rid of entry hazards, as it lacks bulk investment, so it can't stay in the match for as long.

Team Options
========

Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Mega Absol can take care of Psychic-types for Tentacruel, while Tentacruel can use its Poison-type STAB moves to deal with take care of Fairies.

Other Options
=============

Knock Off allows Tentacruel to get rid of the foe's item while also preventing Alakazam from switching in freely. Giga Drain allows Tentacruel to have some form of recovery on the offensive set outside of Black Sludge while netting super effective coverage on opposing Water-types; however, a non-STAB Grass-type move is doing little to no damage to even bulky super effective targets. Swords Dance is a weird option that can work due to sheer surprise factor, but it Tentacruel is normally outclassed as a Swords Dance user by Crawdaunt and Feraligatr except for the fact that it has a better Speed tier.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Psychic-types**: Reuniclus and Alakazam have Magic Guard to prevent them from being whittled down by status and can OHKO Tentacruel with their STAB moves.
