Abomasnow@Leftovers
Ability:Snow Warning
Nature:Timid
EVs:4 Atk/ 252 Sp. Atk/ 252 Spe
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Blizzard
- Focus Punch

My lead he sets up the hail for the rest of my team to use to their advantage.Substitue allows me to be protected for a turn or two and allows me to fire off a safe focus punch.Leech seed to recover my Hp and to make the opponent lose a large chunk of hp per turn thanks to Hail and Leech seed.Blizzard is my STAB attack and can hit many things hard with its 120 power. Thanks to the hail blizzard's accuracy is boosted to 100%.Finally Focus punch allows me to hit Special walls and steel types who resist Blizzard.

walrein.png

Walrein@Leftovers
Ability:Ice Body
Nature:Bold
EVs:220 Hp/ 240 Def/ 48 Spe
- Protect
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Surf

The mighty Stallrein.Once it gets behind that sub and starts stalling with sub/protect almost nothing can stop it.Ice Body is used to recover additional Hp. Ice Body+Leftovers+Protect=recover 25% Hp which is what a substitue uses up.Toxic is for the opponents who have leftovers or are part flying.Surf is my attack option to hit those steel types.

tentacruel.png

Tentacruel@Leftovers
Ability:Liquid Ooze
Nature:Calm
EVs:252 Hp/ 120 Def/ 136 Sp. Def
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Hp Electric
- Surf

Tentacruel is my rapid spinner. He sets up toxic spikes and spins away those nasty stealth rocks which ice types hate.Hp electric is used here to hit water types and.Surf is my STAB move and offers decent coverage.

swampert.png

Swampert@Leftovers
Ability:Torrent
Nature:Relaxed
EVs:252 hp/ 252 def/ 4 Sp. Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Blizzard
- Roar

Swampert sets up Stealth Rocks and sponges physical attacks.Earthquake is used to damage Steel types who resist Blizzard.Blizzard is used to hit grass types if I have to and ground types.Roar is to prevent the opponent from setting up and to get opponent pokemon poisened(thanks to toxic spikes),get stealth rock damage, and see what the opponent has on their team.

hariyama.png

Hariyama@Leftovers
Ability:Thick Fat
Nature:Impish
EVs:80 hp/ 172 atk/ 252 def/ 4 spe
- Revenge
- Stone Edge
- Whirlwind
- Knock Off

Hariyama is my Tyranitar counter.Thick Fat allows me to take some fire moves and ice attacks.Revnege is used here because he will be attacking last most of the time. Stone edge for pokemon who are part flying.Whirlwind to spread some Stealth Rock damage and poison the opponent. Also helps against pokemon who try to set up using stat boosting moves.Knock off is to make the opponents leftovers go away so they will get hit by the hail.

rotomfrost.png

Rotom-F@Leftovers
Ability:Levitate
Nature:Bold
EVs:252 hp/ 120 def/ 136 Sp. def
- Thunderbolt
- Blizzard
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Rotom-F is my status absorber. He also serves as a spin blocker. He is using boltbeam which has excellent coverage.Rest to heal status and restore hp.Sleep Talk to damage the opponent while I sleep.

Some common threats to a hail team:

Breloom:Rotom-F can take the spore and proceed to sleep talk.

Tyranitar:Hariyama can scare it off or kill it with revenge.

Hippowdon:Swampert can take care of it with blizzard.

Infernape:Tentacruel can take almost anything Infernape can throw at it and fire a STAB surf back at it.

Scizor:Swampert can take a bullet punch but can't really do anything back.Walrein can stall it if it's behind a sub.

Heatran:Tentacruel can Handle choice scarf variants and swampert can kind of deal with it if tentacruel is gone

Zapdos:If it lack hidden power Grass Swampert can wall it all day

Lucario:This is a major problem for my team After one swords dance it can run through my team like nothing. The best I can do it protect to stall it for a while but even that isn't enough.

The only thing I can think of for your lucario problem is to switch your Rotom set into the heat form and scarf it, or put a gliscor in its place. You can still use sleep talk for breloom.

Hey Red Garchomp.

Nice team overall, hail stall teams are one of my favorite to rate. Since this is a stall team I'm really sure you can use a more viable set on Abomasnow. Well the moveset on Abomasnow is fine but you can try a more bulkier spread, The EVs I am recommending is 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD with a Calm nature. What it allows that your current EVs don't really allow is to setup a Subsitute from a Bulky water or Electric type with their neutral attacks and you'll be able to setup Leech seed easily, I am recommending this because the set is more stallish and I'm sure it'll benefit since you're just losing some speed mostly. On Swampert I already see you have one phazer already you don't really need another one since it's pretty much a waste of a move what I recommend on changing is Roar into Protect to continue on the Toxic hail damage.

For your Lucario problem which tears through the whole team I recommend you change your Rotom into a scarf variant and then if you want the status absorber you can go to Hariyama which is a decent overall Sleep talker. So for the Rotom which will be able to take Lucario with ease I recommend you try this set and EVs at the bottom:

Rotom-F @ Leftovers
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 Def / 252 Spd / 252 SpA
Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Blizzard, Trick

Now the explanation of the set, Thunderbolt is to get rid of those pesky waters and it's the strongest move you have very useful since you don't have anything hard on your team to hit Water types with other then Tentacruel with Hidden power Electric. Shadow ball are for those ghosts who can be a little bit annoying on your team since you don't have anything to resist it, so this will come in handy for sure. Blizzard is regular usually for flying types. Lastly trick is for anything on the other players team that's trying to setup and you can't do anything about it, so just trick it and it will get destroyed just by the weather.

For Hariyama use the exact same EVs the only difference is you need to change the moveset into Force Palm / Whirlwind / Rest / Sleep talk. Force Palm is for possibly paralysis on the other pokemon, and it's your best choice over Cross chop because you can't afford to miss. Whirlwind is for just phazing out the other pokemon on the team and you can do it constantly since you have Rest and Sleep talk.

Good luck, and hoped my analysis helped out.

I hate hail. Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. Anyways, this actually looks like a good team. You may want to consider focus sash on your lead to absorb any fire blasts from lead ape ,or azelf. Man this team looks annoying.

A quick comment: on hariyama, you would ideally run revenge. This is a hail stall team, and your goal is to beat down and phaze steels out rather than dealing with them directly, plus the chance of paralysis will be nullified by anything that is poisoned by toxic spikes. An advantage of force palm, however, is that it can catch flying types and levitators and paralyze them, but they'll be punished effectively by stealth rock and hail damage anyway and having double the power in your attack might be more useful...

Also, your team lacks spikes, which is a really important part of a hail team just because of the switches you can force with it. Because of this I'd suggest putting a froslass over swampert, your team could definitely use the spiking support, with scarfed rotom protecting against tauntGyara.

Froslass @ Leftovers
248 HP/228 Def/32 Spe
Timid Nature

Substitute
Spikes
Pain Split/Blizzard
Taunt/Blizzard

Dual spinblocking is not a very common strategy in OU but it is something that your opponent will be hard-pressed to deal with, especially with froslass' snow cloak and rotom's speed with its scarf. As a hail team goes you not only need spikes to punish the opponent for switching around but preventing stat boosters who are immune to toxic spikes/hail (like cm jirachi and agiligross, who will otherwise weaken your team to the point where their sweepers can break through).

First of all, I'd like to say I absolutely adore hail teams. In fact, basically the only teams I play with that are not a hail teams are gimmick teams. I've tested my hail teams very extensively over Shoddy and Wifi but not as much over Wifi so those sources are where my opinion will be coming from mostly. Well anyways, that aside, on with the rate!

Abomasnow----------

As with any hail team, you need this guy. Unfortunately, Abomasnow does not function as a very good lead. It doesn't counter too many leads. I see it countering basically only Focus Sash leads by effectively breaking the sashes with hail. (I want to say it counters a Swampert lead but that's only if it has Energy Ball or Wood Hammer.) and although it sets up hail early, it doesn't function too well as a lead as Azelf's Fire Blast would just annihilate you. Might I suggest switching your Swampert to your lead? Lead Swampert is not uncommon but since you're using it as a phazer, should you decide to use it as a lead, you might need to modify it. (Or maybe not, I'm honestly not too familiar with Swampert leads.) I personally lead with Smeargle as Fake Out, Spore, SR, and Spikes with Weavile support let's me sleep many common leads and set up at least SR and a layer of Spikes while Fake Out breaks Azelf and Aerodactyl sashes where then I can come in with my Weavile on the turn they taunt to take them out. Smeargle leads honestly aren't for everyone and generally a Swampert lead is also more stable so you might want to consider switching Swampert in as your lead. Lastly, switch to a bulkier set and add protect in perhaps, it greatly increases Abomasnow's stalling potential. I run bold but calm as stated above, is viable for a more specially defensive spread but I found that he's not surviving any flamethrower anyways so why bother too much. I have 252Def/252SpD/4SpA spread for my Abomasnow and it has worked wonders as a subseeder carrying blizzard. Weirdly enough, only maxing out defenses maxes out my % recovery for leech seed meaning if latched onto a Standard WishBliss, I gain approximately a whopping 21% per turn and so 42% with Protect. While it will be likely to switch out, it still gives me 21% which is amazing healing for a turn or two.

Walrein----------

Stallrein, the core of almost every Hail Stall team. This is fairly standard although I use a different set that I have found to be more effective in my play style. I won't suggest it to you as it is a bit more gimmicky than yours. Yours is good but with HGSS, Walrein got a new toy in Super Fang. Surf is a solid STAB for sure and Toxic is very good support so you honestly don't need to change anything. However, it is an option if you feel lacking in some departments.

Tentacruel----------

I use a Tentacruel as a Spinner and Toxic Spiker too on many occasions and it has worked wonders so I have no beef with yours.

Swampert----------

I think Swampert too, is an awesome addition to any hail team. I don't use one on my main but I have used Swampert on my alternate Hail teams and it works so keep it up. The only thing is to think about switching it in as your lead which in my opinion would benefit your team as it would also help catch your opponent off guard when you throw in your Abomasnow mid-game post-setup and reveal your team as a hail team.

Hariyama----------

Great poke here as well. As you know, and have said, Hariyama completely shuts down TTar so good for you. It is also very bulky. Once again, I see no problems with this.

Rotom-F----------

I haven't seen Rotom-F in many hail stall teams as of late and for a reason. I think actually you should replace Rotom-F with Rotom-H. Both serve similar purposes and although Rotom-H might lack the 100 accuracy powerful blizzard, it give you the option of overheat, shutting down Scizors and other steels not named Heatran that might give you trouble (Even though its arguable Swampert does a good enough job in this role as it is). Personally, I don't like sleep talk as it is unreliable but if it has worked for you then keep it up. It might be because I'm relating this too much back to my team and if I am I apologize but I don't feel like you need another Blizzard on your team to function effectively as a stalling team.

Conclusion----------

Overall, I think this team is pretty solid. There are only a few problems I see. First of all, spiker? This isn't mandatory but I've found a spiker adds a great deal to a hail team. If you can, you can fit Frosslass in as Frosslass functions as an impeccable spiker under hail. Secondly, your lead. If you insist on throwing Abomasnow in first, please latch a focus sash on it. Fire Blast and even Flamethrower for that matter from an Azelf will just take you out, effectively shutting down your lead while it accomplishes absolutely nothing. Now you may switch out to another but why not lead with that another anyways. The hail team appreciates an element of surprise before revealing to its opponent its nature as a hail team. Overall, I think your team is pretty cool. It has its minor flaws and although I say you might want to have a spiker, it's cool if you don't because I can't see anyone on your team being able to leave its spot. (Maybe Rotom but Frosslass is way too frail to replace it as a spinblocker.) Well, I hope this helped, good luck with your team!

Hi, I received you PM!

The first thing that I noticed here is a huge Breloom weakness. It can abuse your Toxic-Spikes and can easily own you with Focus Punch/Seed Bomb. Only Rotom can stand up to Breloom. And the most troublesome pokemon in the OU Tier, Scizor. Bullet Punch owns your Ice-types and U-turn hurts so much.

To solve this, you can just use Rotom-H and add Scarf to it cause it really helps from sweeping your team or threatening it.. Scizor, Lucario and Breloom. Also, I would like you to try Super Fang on Walrein, it really helps, Super Fang + Stall = Dedz and you don't really need Toxic since Toxic Spikes is up and you don't have to worry against flying types cause you have Rotom. I hope this helps! Good Luck!!

Hi.

Looking at your team, there are multiple things that are going wrong, from taking on threats to synergy.
The biggest problem in your team by far is the lack of a Ghost and Dragon resist, which opens your team to multiple threats.
Your team suffers from weaknesses to several offensive threats, mainly Rotom-A, Latias, CM Jirachi, SD Lucario and Gengar. Rotom-A is a huge threat to your team and you will surely encounter it as it is very common. Rotom-H with Overheat will easily dispose of Abomasnow, a key Pokemon on your team since your team revolves around Hail, Thunderbolt takes care of Tentacruel and Walrein, Swampert and Hariyama are completely walled and can be taken down whilee your own Rotom-F is weak to Shadow Ball which it lacks. Latias massacres your team, any offensive version of it will run through your team, lack of Dragon resist means nothing can switch-into a Draco Meteor. In fact, DM OHKOes all your team with no exception, so an offensive three attack LO Latias will 6-0 your team, just like a CM Latias which can utilise 3/6 of your team, Swampert, Tentacruel and Rotom-F as set-up fodder and sweep with no retaliation at all. CM Jirachi is also a dangerous threat as it sets up in a similar manner as CM Latias, on Tentacruel and Rotom-F and KO everything with the appropriate move. SD Lucario shreds your team to pieces if it gets a SD against Rotom-F when asleep, as Close Combat disposes of Abomasnow, Walrein, Swampert, Hariyama, and Rotom-F is weak to Crunch; Tentacruel is the only one to not being OHKOed but it cannot do anything back. With the lack of a ghost type it is sure that Gengar is hoing to cause a lot of issues, since a LO Gengar just 6-0es your whole team with the appropriate move, Thunderbolt taking care of Tentacruel and Walrein, Focus Blast and HP Fire take care of Abomasnow, and Shadow Ball is enough to take care of the rest.

Now, I have noticed that Hariyama is completely useless on this team. Your say it is your Tyranitar counter but you already have Swampert which covers Tyranitar well enough thanks to it's rock resistance and access to Earthquake.
In a metagame so centralised around Dragon types, you have got to have at least two Steel types to absorb all those Dragon attacks. Your don't even have a single Steel type which will grant you resistances to Ghost types that your team lack. So, in order to solve your weaknesses with threats and improve your team's synergy, I would reccomend replacing firstly Hariyama with a Choice Scarf Heatran since Hariyama doesn't bring anything significant to the table as said before. Choice Scarf Heatran will provide a solid answer to Rotom-A, CM Jirachi and SD Lucario (Luke is outsped and Extreme Speed is resisted) with Fire Blast. It also provides a useful Dragon and Ghost resist. Here's the set:

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Timid | 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
Fire Blast | Earthpower | Explosion | Dragon Pulse

I order to have Latias and Gengar covered, I would reccomend replacing Tentacruel with Forretress. The change won't make you lose anything, since the goal with Tentacruel was using Toxic Spikes and Rapid Spin which Forretress does even better with Spikes if you want, because with Payback it is able to beat Rotom-A and other spin blockers. In addition, it provides a Latias, Gengar and Rotom-A check as well as a Steel type to take on Dragon and Ghost attacks. Here's the set:

Forretress @ Leftovers
Careful | 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpDef
Payback | Toxic Spikes | Rapid Spin | Spikes / Explosion

Lastly, I would like to suggest you change your Walrein set to a one that is much more effective and difficul to take down. Toxic is not needed on Walrein since you already have Toxic Spikes support. The changes you should do would be replacing Toxic with Super Fang and Surf with Brine. Super Fang + Brine is a terrifying combo since Super Fang takes 50% of the opponents HP and you can then hit it with Brine whose power doubles to 195 coupled with STAB.

These are the change I would reccomend:

  • Hariyama --> Scarf Heatran
  • Tentacruel --> Forretress
  • Toxic and Surf on Walrein --> Super Fang + Brine
Good Luck with your team, those changes will improve it.

Hello,

You asked me for a rate, so I will do my best. I don't have much time at the moment (in fact this whole week) but nevertheless I will give you a few suggestions.

Hail stall is really fun to play and absolutely not fun to face. However Hail teams have some really huge weaknesses against some threats that have already been mentioned above. So I will focus on finding a way to beat those threats.

Abomasnow: You should use a more defensive set. Move all Spe EVs into HP and use a Sassy nature. This will give you the bulk to take hits from all bulky waters and many other defensive pokemon. Also a negative speed nature with 0 EVs will ensure you are stil faster than Hippowdon but slower than tyranitar. This is quite important because you will outspeed and almost kill Hippo with Blizzard. Against Tyranitar you will have to switch out anyway, so being slower will result in Hail being set up instead of Sand Storm, so that you still have done something useful against Ttar leads. Then you can move as many SpAtk EVs int SPDef as you like, it's just a matter of preference between power and bulk.

Walrein: Stallrein shouldn't be missed in a hail stall team. However I would slightly change the set. Toxic is not the best choice because you already have Toxic spikes support by Tentacruel and in OU you will rarely see grounded poison types which are able to absorb them. So I would suggest Roar in that slot. Causing switches is so good for Stallrein, you won't want to miss it. Also you should consider Blizzard or Super Fang over Surf.

Tentacruel: Glue of a Hail team. But HP Electric is too weak to be considered, so I would use either Knock off or Blizzard in that slot.

Rotom-F: You should definitely use WoW on Rotom because if not Scizor and SD Lucario will destroy your team. This set should work:
Rotom-F@Leftovers
Timid-68Def, 252HP, 188Spe
-Thunderbolt
-Blizzard
-Will-O-Wisp
-Pain Split/Shadow Ball
Timid and 188 Speed EVs to outrun Adamant Lucario and Burn it before it Crunches you. Against Jolly ones you are in trouble... Swampert will survive a +2 CC at full health but aside from that, you don't stand a chance. Scarf Rotom-H could solve that problem to an extent but Hail will wear it down quickly, so I don't know... Just try to prevent it from setting up.

Swampert: Good choice. However I think you could drop Roar for Hydro Pump or Stone Edge, because Walrein already has Roar and Hydro Pump would be a nice stab option while Stone Edge would provide you with a Rock attack. Protect is not a good option here because you won't get Lefties recovery due to Hail anyway.

Hariyama: I think you should drop it for Machamp. It can be your sleep absorber with the RestTalk set and its 100% accurate Dynamicpunch make it a better choice than Hariyama.
Machamp@Leftovers
Adamant-252HP, 252Atk, 4Spe
No Guard
-Dynamicpunch
-Stone Edge/Payback
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
Payback is the better option. Especially if you decide to run Stone Edge on Swampert, it shouldn't be used on Machamp. However if you use Shadow Ball on Rotom to hit Ghosts and Psychics for se damage, stone edge is an option.

Something I also noticed is the lack of Spikes on your team. Froslass is a good spikes stacker for a Hail team but I couldn't really find a slot for it. Your team would be even more susceptile to the usual Hail weaknesses with Froslass.

Hope I could help. Good Luck !

sorry i wasn't able to get back to you all because my computer was broken.i would like to thank all of you for taking the time to help me improve my team.I removed hariyama for machamp and changed the rotom set.i also changed toxic for roar on walrein.Knock off is now used over hp electric. With these changes i've won 23 out of 30 battles on shoddy.I will keep my team this way and once again thank you for all your help.

I would suggest switching HP electric on Tentacruel for Ice beam. It can get some really nice KOs. Anywayz no one brings a Gyarados on a Tentacruel nowadays
