The Cricket Thread Part Deux

well sometimes people are just biased...

like for me I would never want Rohit Sharma to be in the Indian side. After the amount of matches he has cost India in the 2 years after he did well in the CB series.

also does anyone find Aamer's story heading the same way as Ishant Sharma? New guy. Good Pace. Very young. Makes an impact....

hopefuly he doesn't fall away after 1 good year. That would suck

I really hope Aamer doesn't go down the drain, he's a brilliant player and he's only 17. I mean, what more could Pakistan possibly ask for. I'm really sad about Ishant, he was amazing last year and he was one of my favourite players, but then he crapped out a bit.

Also hopefully Watson gets through to a hundred. 98* at the start of the second session. COME ON.

I LOL'd too but look Watto is producing the results 7 out of 12 times he's opened hes got a fifty + score. I think you guys are more looking that he is an all rounder and less at his results. I think with the ball he's been good and with the bat great. I like his aggressive style. He was driving really well today. Hope he gets his hundred :-) really deserves it!
I agree completely. The [insert cuss/insult here] is making runs and doing a really nice job of it.

Im not looking past his ability, I just don't get a huge feeling of stability from his ability nor his body (Which has been a wreck in the past)

The opening position requires a partnership. Aussie opening batsmen develop a bond, a partnership thats unmistakable. Taylor/Slater, Hayden/Langer etc etc. Once they're formed, they can be potent. With Watson up there, I just don't see it.

Funnily enough, I thought Watsons behavior during that run out seemed a bit childish. Did he call for a referral about the run-out or was that the umpires just checking on their own initiative? Because Watto looked like he was really keen to have it checked over. In my books, this wasn't the team thing. Katich has been an opening bat for pretty much his entire 1st class and international career. Watto should submit his wicket for the senior batsman at the crease. Just my opinion.

Gayle said it well. "He's soft." I just hope its a breakdown in injury that takes him off the opening spot, rather than poor form.

One of the main reasons Ishant fell in form was because he isn't the opening bowler for India. He bowls first change and that means the ball has stopped swinging by then. That and he has lost a bit of speed. Before he use to be 140+ easily. Now its more like 130-135ish...

It's a shame about that, since I'd rather have Ishant open the bowling than Nehra. I haven't watched Nehra bowl lately, but Ishant is quite effective with the new ball. I assume he's still opening in tests with Zaheer though? Or is some other random doing that?

Also Indian conditions aren't the best for bowlers either xD

but yeah I feel Nehra is good enough to bowl 1 change and still manage to keep the runs down. Unfortunately Ishant got dropped from the test squad after the first Sl/India test that happened a month ago and that was a really flat wicket so I don't blame him. He will come back strong that is for sure though =D

Sreesanth is bowling with Zak in the tests atm..

Sreesanth is alright, I prefer Ishant though.

422 to win for Pakistan, good luck. 120* for Watson, good man, finally gets the hundred.

Yes, go Watson, he really deserved it after getting so close and because of his injury problems. He's been a good opener with an average of about 60 since he started opening whilst previously his average was about 20 when he was further down the order. Aamer bowled great, him, Roach and Sharma are next generations star bowlers in my opinion.

Whoever said Pakistan have a better bowling line-up than Australia... psshhffk. XD
I havent been watching the current test, and I've never seen much of bollinger, but I am pretty confident that pakistan has a better bowling line-up than australia..

Their bowling line-up is kinda incredible..

Their fielding and (with a couple of exceptions) batting is hilariously bad, so maybe that is the problem.

Have a nice day.

Yes, finally an Australian got a century. Its been too long...

Also, I am really liking Aamer, he seems like he has got a lot of talent, and lets hope it flourishes in the next few years.

I have been watching despite the weird timings for me (I am GMT + 4). Look I think to bowl out a side twice for less than 260 when your side has scored over 150 more runs them is credible. I think Pakistan's bowling attack is excellent but since they don't have fielding to support them we will never be able to see their true potential. Will be Interesting to see how KSA will bounce back, Mickey has said there will be changes to the side, I think prolly De Wet will be back.

On a lighter note check Cricinfo's ODI and Test Team of the decade: -

http://www.cricinfo.com/decadereview2009/content/story/441878.html

I think they have picked it perfectly :-)

Pakistan's bowling attack needs Kaneria and Gul to be at its best. Saeed Ajmal and Kaneria bowling in tandem would be scary, and then when the new ball comes along Gul, Aamer and Asif are there to decapitate you. I really like their bowling line-up, it seems they have quite NZ-esque batting problems though (although nowhere near as bad).

Oh yeah, does anybody know when Ryder is fit to play again? It's been ages.

The test team I dont have too much of a problem with, I could split hairs, but there is no way Symonds makes the ODI team..

Ok, he is an alrounder, but the team has Jayasuria, Kallis, Flintoff and Gilchrist, Symonds will not bowl. Once you realise that much, it is hard to imagine why he would be selected ahead of Brian Lara..

Have a nice day.

I agree with Hip

Don't know how Symonds got in there. Although I question the inclusion of Gilchrist lower down the order in ODI cricket. He shouldn't be in there if he isn't given the opening position. Because he has barely (I think probably never) batted at # 5/6/7 in ODI's...

Although I wouldn't have Lara in the ODI team either. His accomplishments are more in Test matches than ODI's.

yeah thinking about it there are other more deserving people in ODIs. Like Bevan or Hussey.

Bevan only played 4 years of this decade but I dunno if you could really say that that wasnt enough.

Dhoni, Sangakkara, Matthew Hayden (actually Hayden's omission is a real crime, there is just no way he shouldnt be in this side), yeah im gonna stop the list, it should be hayden. Tendulkar can come down the order and tbh so could jayasuria I'd accomidate the aussies as openers..

Have a nice day.

lol Aussie failure.

Also I wtf'd when I saw Symonds on the list, that was the one inclusion I just could not agree with. Hayden and Gilly opening suits me fine too, they're a great opening pair. Although having Hussey in the side might not be a bad idea, he's a pretty amazing ODI player.

tl;dr there are too many good openers.

Pakistan have answered their critics in style! Accepted Ricky's gift and performed really well. Test team was good. I think instead of Symonds I would pick Hayden. Sachin at no. 4 and the devastating batting opening partnership of the once dominant Aussies

Watson looking very good again, he's giving such a bit statement to everyone who thinks he's shit.

Also ;_; at Bangladesh losing to SL, I wanted Ashraful to get a hundred. Tamim Iqbal was looking good too, sad that he got out to a stupid shot.

Kallis getting a hundred is very good, he really is a run machine. PRINCE SHOULD NOT BE OPENING AND SHOULD BE AT 4-5 WHY DO THEY REFUSE TO MAKE DE VILLIERS OR AMLA OPEN. D< Oh and good to see it's pretty much even now, hopefully SA can get a big total up and win this time (I don't like England).

Watson on 91 as I finish this post. Watson is good at getting 90s.

I think this test maybe gives you an idea why I thought Pakistans bowling lineup is better than Australias. I wasnt trying to imply there is anything wrong with Australia's just that Pakistan's attack is really really good.

Have a nice day.
