The Everything NHL Thread

Second game in a row the refs derailed a Sabres game with horseshit tickytack penalty calls. I'm sick of the underofficiating/overofficiating in the NHL.

First time in Buffalo history they've come back from 3-0 deficits to win in back-to-back games. Exciting as hell, but I just wish they'd stop spotting other teams fuckstupid leads.

I'm a little surprised they're managing to score enough to come back in those games... their GF is actually pretty good over the season too, it just seems like they shouldn't be able to since they don't have a lot of players I would consider "primary scoring" if they played for most teams. Obviously 3rd in the league in GA is the main reason for their record, but they're right on the edge of 3 goals a game, too...

Nice to see someone other than Boston winning that division, although Tim Thomas was awfully adorable yesterday so I'm kind of rooting for him now. :D

lol. Yeah, even going back to right after the lockout we've always had very balanced scoring. The year of the president's cup Vanek had 42, Drury and Briere topped 30, and something like 4 or 5 more guys had 20+. Now that we've stopped scoring at will, the offense is still being evenly spread, I think our team goal leader is Vanek with 12 or 13.

I shat my pants watching that WJHC today. Eberle = clutch. I was hugging my friends while screaming lol.

God damn it in OT. America scored on ANOTHER odd man rush. OH well, great game, no hard feelings.

I know that the red wingulls (I forgot the forum name, Teifu?) is looking for a centre in exchange for a centre. I have a dire need for right wingers and I have Kesler, H Sedin, and Kopitar to barter with. PM me if you want to go further with this.

lolpitar

Sabres win their 5th straight. It's not the Sharks 8 straight, but it's our longest winning streak since December 2007. Giggity.

Hopefully Teifu doesn't take that as an insult, because Carl's team sucks!

Well, to be fair, with Psycho's ridiculous week against me last week Carl did pass me for what I believe in the first time this season...

But for once I'm not posting to talk about fantasy. With Kovalchuk being one of the handful of big news outside of John Carlson shitting all over Canada's hopes and dreams(yeah Caps prospects!), check out this "analysis" of Kovy: http://www.birdwatchersanonymous.com/2010/1/6/1236312/would-you-pay-10-million-a-year

I would have liked to see more sampled, but that's pretty vintage Kovalchuk. He's not Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Pavel Datsyuk, or even Marian Gaborik. You've gotta do more than score to be one of the top players in this league and he, frankly, isn't.

I mentioned Gaborik on purpose there. I think we all think of him as a scorer (well, we all think of him as "on injured reserve", but after that), but he plays absolutely spectacular defense. He backchecks hard every play. There's a reason he always seems to have the puck, and it's because he goes and gets it. He puts up fairly similar numbers to Kovalchuk offensively (he's actually doing much better this year on a team with less offensive talent playing in a more defensive system) as well. The fact he thinks he's worth 10-11m in a capped market is just absurd, I kinda hope he just goes to the KHL.

In unrelated news, if I was Canadian I would totally buy this t-shirt http://www.russianmachineneverbreak...defenseman-snubbed-t-shirt-huge-rmnb-contest/

Raising my hat to my sole national non-goalie representative, who much to everyone's surprise, including mine... and his own (he wasn't invited for summer camp), made Team Canada's (the toughest hockey team in the world to get a spot into) final lineup for the coming Olympics to be held on 'home soil' in a month.

You've proven doomsayers wrong coming back strong from a near career-ending incident just as I believe you'll come back geared up just in time for the Olympics to once again shut some of those still yapping traps. If a concussion that bounds you to a wheelchair for months can't stop you, a broken thumb shouldn't even slow you down.

I need you so I can root for at least someone to put one in in this tournament, the others being stuck making sure none get in... Lace those skates and make it easier for me to root for Team Canada, a country you got gold for, back in '05 when you were MVP at the worlds jr.

.... and get your damn IR status in fantasy already.

Hopefully Teifu doesn't take that as an insult, because Carl's team sucks!

uh what? not sure if you're joking or being serious but because i like doing this kind of thing..

let's just compare our totals on the year

Code:
categories: G A +/- PIM PPP SOG W GAA SV%
red wingulls: [b]129[/b] 214 17 [b]343[/b] [b]126[/b] [b]1176[/b] 39 [b]2.31[/b] [b].915[/b]
atom thrasher: 127 [b]238[/b] [b]42[/b] 298 123 1169 [b]40[/b] 2.50 .909

by the overall numbers my team edges you in 6 of the 9 categories.. including goals/shots on goal which is hilarious considering you have the league's best player and fantasy producer in alex ovechkin. i'd be curious to see how well you'd be fairing if you hadn't landed the top pick in the draft. i will give you the fact that when your totals are better than mine, they're a lot better.. but i'd say 4/9 stats are pretty even (goals, ppp, sog, wins), then i'm better in PIM, gaa, sv% and you're better in assists and +/-.. in short, over the course of the season, our teams have been pretty even in terms of overall production.

this isn't roto, though, and weekly records do matter so i'll look at those as well

Code:
   red wingulls atom thrasher
G: 8-4-1 8-4-1
A: 3-9-1 10-3-0
+/-: 6-7-0 7-5-1
PIM: 6-5-2 5-8-0
PPP: 5-6-2 9-4-0
SOG: 6-6-1 7-6-0

W: 9-3-1 6-4-3
GAA: 7-6-0 7-6-0
SV%: 7-6-0 6-6-1

the only outstanding differences are the assists, ppp and wins records. everything else is fairly similar and close to .500. you do hold the edge with more winning records, which is expected considering your place in the standings at the moment.

and finally, you do hold the edge in terms of our head to head matchup this season, but it was a 4-5 loss for my team, which isn't really a bad loss in my book.

your team is "better" because it has the better record, but i attribute that to the schedule more so than talent pool. i'd say all the teams are pretty evenly matched this year and i could see almost anyone winning the whole thing.

in conclusion, my team doesn't suck. :P

eraddd.. shoot me a trade offer that you think is fair and i'll let you know what i think.. i'm open to moving almost anyone on my team as long as it's a fair deal.. i'm sure we can come up with something that benefits both parties

hahahahaha

holy fuck Alex Burrows, my man.

a hat trick in 2 straight games....

I dont even recall ever seeing that.

I think I should be the one thanking the Sedins here...

Wed, Jan 6

Burrows had his second career hat trick Tuesday in a 7-3 win over Columbus.

Advice: Burrows' first two goals helped spark the Canucks' comeback from the first-period deficit. He completed his second NHL hat trick with a short-handed goal off a pass from Ryan Kesler in the third. "All three goals were unreal plays by my linemates," Burrows said."All three of them were tap-ins."

It was probably the same tonight.

I was kidding, you know I love you Carl <3

Seconding Myers for Chara. He's leading all rookies for assists even though I get the impression he's mostly a defensive defensemen, as most players that are roughly the size of a dinosaur tend to be mostly defensive. He's right next to the rookie point lead too, except he's, you know, a defensemen. I think the Calder should be even more one-horse than last year, since at least Ryan was challenging Mason.

In other news I picked up Myers right before that game in my Winner's League and it made me very happy. That was a nice "fuck you assholes this is why I'm #1 in this league" moment.

EDIT: Although on the calder note, that Jimmy Howard is pretty good...
