The Everything NHL Thread

I like Miller, he is a good goalie. I thin once Brodeur and Luongo (both of Synre's fantasy goalies) are gone, Miller will be the big man on campus, so to speak. I also like Miller because he played for my old team before he went to MSU so that is cool too!

Luongo'll be around pretty much as long as Miller so I don't know if he'll ever really be "the guy" in the league but he's great for sure. It'll be tough for him to put up Luongo- or Brodeur-like numbers over the long term unless Buffalo changes their strategy pretty dramatically because even though they've buckled down on D a lot better this year they're a lot more offensive than most of the teams Brodeur(except for maybe this year's version of the Devils) and Luongo(at least since he's come to Vancouver) have played for.

In addition to those guys I think Rick DiPietro deserves some consideration, in addition to being very solid in net he's easily the best puck moving goalie in the world if you remove Brodeur from the equation(and even with him since they added the NO BRODEUR ALLOWED zone below the goal line), he'll be spectacular for years to come, although I think being stuck with NYI for like 10 years will make it tough for him to have the type of success of a Roy or a Brodeur... I just don't have much faith in the current generation of that organization.

So...the Red Wings, sigh. Although I am not really a Red Wings fan, the fact that they are on a losing skid is bothering me because the games I get on t.v. are uninteresting now...

On a different note, the L.A. Kings will not make the playoffs again this year because they are a. bad, and b. have a rather tough schedule involving their divisional teams. My poor poor kings.

keep going leafs, i love it

i want stamkos. his sister is hot (ive seen her!)

How old are the people in that league and why are there some of them wearing full face masks?

The pics from the new away jersey are from an exhibition game versus some amateur team that contains a lot of players that played for us in the past during our dynasty champion run mid-90's.

The dutch league is pretty wide age-wise, we got players starting at 17 untill like 38 or so. The pics you could look at, also had players that were older than 50 on the ice ;)

Praying the Wings break their losing skid against Dallas in a few minutes, it hurts me in fantasy but real hockey is always more important to me than fantasy hockey is and its really depressing to see them playing like this :(. Washington is falling a bit too, at least the Devils are coming on strong to give me some solace.

As an aside I whipped out good ol' NHL 2002 the other day and am thoroughly enjoying it again ! Rosterwise I think it was worth holding onto since it's based on the 00-01 season with the free agent transactions of the summer following it, so my least favorite team possibly of all time (01 Colorado, although Anaheim of this year/last year is tight with it) is very strong, as are my two favorite teams(which essentially are the 00-01 Devils and 01-02 Red Wings) which are both sporting probably the best rosters they ever had.

I fantasy drafted instead of using the defaults since even though the rosters are a big pull of the game to me the fact a lot of retired players are still in the game makes it fun to me since I can't use them in more recent NHL titles.

I'd like to see you do THIS in NHL 08

Bure-Yzerman-Oates
St. Louis-Sturm-Lehtinen
Holmstrom-Larionov-Jokinen
Pandolfo-Draper-Cleary

Leetch-Lidstrom
Zubov-Daneyko
Murphy-Campbell

Brodeur-Vernon

(scratches) Vaclav Prospal, Chris Clark, Mikael Samuelsson, Stu Grimson

That roster is pretty fun I think! Oh, the good old days. . .

I will rate your team.

shannahan > lehtinen
lemieux > sturm
macinnis > daneyko
hextall > vernon

patrick roy weak

patrick roy can suck my cock as he avoids skating on lines on his way to talk to the goal posts

actually he can't suck my cock i don't want him touching it even i maintain some standards

One time on NHL 06 I made a team comprised entirely of former Islanders. I forget the lines, but I know the first one was Palffy-Peca-Bertuzzi or something, and I had Luongo in net. I think the team had an overall 92 rating. >_>

The Wings are still playing like an AHL team but at least it was heartening to see Howard play well since he'll be "the guy" for the next decade or so.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Hollywood writers couldn’t have dreamed up this plot. Playing before his largest Michigan home crowd in nearly four years and making his Griffins debut at Van Andel Arena, Darren McCarty tallied a hat trick and added an assist to power Grand Rapids to a 6-3 win over the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday.

McCarty on the wings lets make it happen ! He's down to a point/game in the AHL which isn't amazing but hes an energy/checker guy anyway.

ready go

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom
Samuelsson-Filipula-Cleary
Maltby-Draper-McCarty
Drake-Franzen-Hudler

Rafalski-Lidstrom
Kronwall-Lilja
Lebda-Chelios

Fuck if everyone was healthy and playing competently we probably wouldn't even need to make one of these silly trade deadline moves(although I still have no faith in the forwards off the top line other than Franzen/Cleary)! Leaves us with pretty good scratches, too(Ellis/Kopecky/Downey and Meech/Quincey)

We still need another scorer to help carry the second line and also to provide options in terms of splitting Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Nobody seems to want to step up to provide consistent scoring outside of the top line, especially with Cleary out. I'm still in favor of a deadline move that adds scoring depth.

Well, the Wings won although Lidstrom got rocked 6 into the first.
Also the Kings are on one of their popular 8 billion game slides...sigh
It is a good thing the Kings make good trades, for example, Jaroslav Modry for the Flyer's 3rd round pick in the 08 draft....

Also, thoughts on Jagr being traded? His contract is most likely up because he wont get his 84 points this season.

Wishing I'd waited another day to pick up Price, since in true goalie-the-first-game-I-have-them-for form he let up 3 in the first and got yanked. I'd debated on benching him since the Habs are well on their way to going 0-4 against the Rangers this year but I figured they'd be a little more desperate with the whole three-way-tie-for-the-East thing but apparently not.

The aforementioned Jagr is a big part of that tonight(3 assists), I doubt he gets traded either way. He's not very appealing to potential teams with that work ethic and recent lack of production, since his price(both to the cap and what he would command in the market) is probably too high for him to go anywhere.

Also as far as the Lidstrom thing that was a pretty cheezy hit(although not nearly as cheezy as Downey, Zetterberg, and Babcock seem to think) but as much as I hate doing it I mostly have to blame Lidstrom for that one, the elbow was lame but that play was very not like him to leave himself vulnerable in the first place.

EDIT: Speaking of stupid trade rumors I figure I might as well start making even more stupid posts relating to them since we're down to a week of pre-deadline drama

The free agent I am most curious about is Brain Campbell. I have no idea where he will go, but it looks like he isn't resigning and I will lose all faith in the Sabres if they lost another player for nothing, and I am pretty sure they would lose and equal amount of faith in themselves because they are showing every sign of being willing to deal him, and lots and lots of teams are interesting. As far as I know my Wings are not one of these teams(although the Devs are <3), but I am mostly curious about where he ends up - if a legitimate contender lands him it could spark interesting reactions from Ottawa/Detroit/Dallas/Anaheim/Montreal/etc.

I still don't think Toronto will be able to drop Sundin but for their sake I really hope they do - they've sucked since Joseph left(coincidently, so has he) and they really need to start rebuilding. Speaking of a potentially related issue, the GMs are apparently discussing players not being allowed to teams they were traded from via free agency for a period of time to prevent shit like Tkachuk going back to St. Louis after being traded at the deadline, for instance. They'll be too busy talking about trades for anything to come of it but I think it is a neat idea.

Hossa is another interesting drama, but I fully expect them to pull a Buffalo and keep him until the deadline and lose him in July. They've already said they won't trade him unless they get something that can 'help them now', so unless they get a miracle trade or Hossa resigned before free agency starts I fully expect 08-09 Atlanta to be worse than its 07-08 counterpart.

Yesterday the habs were down 0-5, only to come back to win 6-5.

The franchise is almost 100 years old and that is the first time it happens.

Kick ass comeback, canadiens are first in the east with the sens!

The fact that they beat the Rangers made it all the more sweeter.

A 4-win streak is pretty cool but I'm just waiting for a disaster to happen. DiPietro getting hurt, for example, or getting rid of someone like Park or one of our young guys for an aging, past-his-prime scorer at the deadline.

The fact that they beat the Rangers made it all the more sweeter.

Damn right, because that's one more game the Sabres have in hand on the shitty Blushirts. This weekend was an aberration, we'll be taking it to Toronto tonight!

Posting to agree with previous enjoyment of the fucking rangers getting owned by the habs, hahaha. Aside from me getting somewhat owned by dumbie Price and his 3 goals-in-12-minutes thing there's no team in the East I hate more than the Rangers so I couldn't be more amused... their pain sustains me. Hopefully the Price thing will be somewhat negated by Brodeur winning today, although naturally it was game #2 Nabakov didn't start so those 3 goals don't count against his GAA!

Speaking of ridiculous comebacks, the Sabres game was fun tonight. They scored a couple quickies right after I got back from class, pretty entertaining hockey. How about Vanek lately... 11 goals and 2 hat tricks in February so far, lol. The last one minute of the Devils game was all I managed to catch from that game but it amused me too, mostly because it reminded me how much I don't like Roenick... maybe I should stop holding that anti-Roenick rant by Roy against him in all of those 'why I hate Patrick Roy' IRC chats. Good to see the Devs back in a (sort of) tie for 1st in the East, even if Ottawa has one less game played.

So far the only trades since the GM meetings have spawned have been involving shitty draft picks and shittier defensemen and the shittiest team(and by that I mean Philly for those of you thinking Anaheim), which I suspect will have absolutely 0 effect on anything the remainder of this season. Any interesting talks from the aforementioned GM meetings won't matter until the GMs get home to talk to their staffs, hopefully we see some interesting stuff in the next few days. Still hoping poor Sundin can get on a team that doesn't suck!

I think the lidstrom his was more Lidstroms fault than anything else. I think the elbow was mainly a result of Nick buckling into the boards so I think that was a pretty solid and good hit. On a different note, the kings are well on their way to Stamkos!

I mentioned it on IRC but I am gonna make a comedy offline NHL 08 smogon team !! You guys should at least give me a number/position to work with, and Offensive/Defensive Dman or Grinder/Playmaker/Sniper/Dangler/Power Forward is handy. Other preferences like stats you excel at (speed, checking, shooting, passing, wristers vs. slapshots) and general physical appearance are also pluses!

Just a silly gimmick but come on it'll take you like a minute ~_~

Also a clever allias first name to add to your handle to give you an in-game first + last name (or just coughing up your real name for those of you i cant facebook stalk easily whose names I dont know!) would be cool so I don't have to make a bunch of BS names up to fill in the blanks.

For me do the following:

Name: Werford Blitzpatrick
Position: D (defensive)
Number: 23
Shoots: Left
Strengths: Passing, Wrist shots, checking
Weaknesses: Slap Shots, speed, hera

Also still waiting for the disaster. 5 game winning streak is nice though!

At work atm, but seems like a fun thing to do, make sure to keep us updated about our stats ;)

I'll fill in some details later, at work now.
