Tavaras might not even end up being a franchise player and he is not the definitive #1 pick like Stamkos was last year. Hedman is looking pretty good as well.

Yeah, I agree with this. After watching the World Junior's last year, Hedman has so many good qualities that I can see him overtaking Tavares.

TSN, a canadian sports network had an early poll with scouts.

Out of the 10 possible first place votes, Tavares had 4, where as Hedman had 6. It's pretty obvious that it's really going to be a decision made by the team, what they need to finish their team or start the base around. But it's obvious that it's going to be one of those two guys.
 
It just makes me wonder, if L.A. does get the first pick I think they will take Tavares because they just took a round 1 D in Doughty and with Johnson on the point makes me think they'll go forward if they did get this number one pick.
 
We're up to 12 owners in fantasy already which is a nice change from last year when we were struggling to get people to join until pretty much the buzzer(although I'd still like to see Vin enter)!


Anyway in NHL 09 news we should really start at least trying out online be a Pro I think, I bothered to make a team(Smogon, of course) for the sake of getting organized here, everything else is editable, so far what its worth here are our options:

i bought my 13 month live card yesterday so I am fully able to captain team smogon to victory :D.

As a side note, smogon is not a word apparently on these forums we should change that so that my text isn't underlined in red
 
We ended up playing I think four more last night - team Sniper Carl, Zero "Captain Crosscheck" Wing, and Turnoverfu had a thrashersesque 1-3 night BUT we learned some valuable information, namely that trying to play with fewer than 2 human forwards is a good way to never have the puck. I rather like my post at LD, and I know Carl and Zerowing like the wing so hopefully Psycho takes the other D spot or Center and we roll.


It's scary past the blueline though >:(
 
Haven't seen captain crosscheck and carl said he has an exam tomorrow to study for so i'm not sure how the prospects are looking tonight >:(
 
Yeah good call with the captain crosscheck. haha, my favorite part of last nights games was when I protected carl once after the period ended and on the guys came to hit him and I laid them out haha. I'm deeply disappointed that the first game didn't count though.
 
I mentioned it on IRC briefly yesterday but I have to take a moment to gloat about real hockey and the Ducks putting Schneider on waivers - I think that's a nice indicator of how them stealing him from Detroit worked out for them, and I hear that Rafalski guy had a pretty good season for the Red Wings. I doubt anyone picks him up going down to the minors but I wonder if Burke, who now has a history of doing the classy thing in spite of being employed by the Ducks, puts Schneider through re-entry waivers. It doesn't make a lot of sense for Anaheim(since the point of putting him through waivers now that they failed to move him is to shed salary) as if he's snagged through re-entry waivers Anaheim has to pay half his salary, but it seems silly to have someone as slightly above average as Schneider rotting in the AHL.

In EASHL news, the game thinks we're 5-6 even though we're 7-6 which is kind of annoying(and we have the won 5 in a row achievement to prove it's wrong...), but we had an awesome streak there and are playing a lot better team defense now which is helping a lot I think. It'll be cool to have more than 3 of us playing but it's a good time regardless and we're improving... we could probably stand to work on the offense a bit more(particularly passing in the offensive zone I think!) since we're having a hard time staying over a goal a game but it's been a good time so far and we got three shutouts in a row so clearly our randomly generated goalie is going to win the EASHL vezina.


EDIT: Oh hey we're back to .500 now at 7-7(although it should be 9-7...), I enjoy the feast-or-famine aspect of our offense going from 4 goals to zero, lol. 5 games from the next stat upgrade for Carl/Zerowing/I, hopefully that will make a difference but I kinda doubt it'll be noticable.
 
Yeah currently our problem is scoring, Carl found his spot and hes getting good shots there, but he can't be our only scorer so hopefully I can find my spot soon and add to the scoring since I do get the puck so often. Defensively I agree, we are really solid and most of the opposing goals are wacky shots or one timers, which I think we need a bit more of (I've said it before), though it is kind of hard to get those vs other humans and passing from human to human.

When I click the "Test you System" link, I get a pop-up that has a little circle thingy that said "Connecting to Server", but it never stops doing that...Is there some sort of software I need to download before I can access the Yahoo servers?

I wouldn't mind it being a couple hours later, I'm doing a charity event that morning and I want to make sure I can get back in time.

Well, I just got NHL 09 today, and I fooled around with my Be a Pro. I managed to register 2 points within 2 periods of play as the third line center for the Toronto Marlies, which fares well. I have a 100% Face off Percentage as a Center, but my system froze. So whatever you guys need as a player I can play on the front line.

Edit 1 - We're now 4 games into the season as a Marly. I've record 3 Goals and 1 Assist, as the Center for Line 3. My touch to score Goals has taken a while, but I think I'm getting it down.

Edit 2 - Really gay. It turns out when my system froze it went to my non life profile, so the 8 games I played with the marlies so far didn't count. I had recorded 7 goals and 4 assists so far too...

Edit 3 - So I'm using it on my life account, and my scoring touch hasn't faded. As a Sniper, I've recorded 4 goals in 2 games, including my first career hat trick in the second. I'm comfortably leading the AHL in goals per game, points per game at this point lol

Edit 4 - Been a while since an edit. I made it to the NHL after game 16, at that point I had gathered 35 points with 27 Goals. After my first game with the Leafs, I recorded 3 points, 2 assists and 1 goal. We were up comfortably 3-2 at the end but Kaberle ended up putting the puck in our own net with 10 seconds left. Carlo Coliacavo scored with 2 minutes left in overtime off a Marc Goudge (me) assist.
 
So yeah, tonight my other League confirmed that I can't access the Drafts for some reason...My team seems pretty stacked, though, anyways. Any suggestions on how to play this?

My initial reaction is to try and trade 1 of my C for a LW.

Edit: Vermette was on Waivers, which shocked me. Pending transaction Wolski <-> Vermette
