The Everything NHL Thread

Bob Gainey is a fucking idiot for firing the coach.

That has me pissed off as hell, fuck the Canadiens, I cannot back up such a terrible move. Hell, one month ago the press asked him what his best move has been ever since he became GM and he answered hiring Carbonneau as coach.

I hope they miss the playoffs or get an early exit now so it backfires in his face and he gets fired as well.

As far as I know, we are still paying for some of Yashin's contract. Remember, when we signed him, it was the longest deal in NHL history (and then we topped ourselves with the DiPietro deal).

I don't know if picking up an older defenseman would help us at all. We already have a very good power play quarterback in Mark Streit, and I think the young kids are fitting into our system very nicely. The optimist in me is seeing the Guerin dump as freeing up cap space for a big move in the offseason, though, so we'll see what happens.

Also, the Canadiens look like last years Senators.

well, look at phaneuf for example, WER. They had him with older, wiser defensemen and it helped his game mature rather rapidly. It is a good way to go to get guys ready faster, from what I've seen.

Word. Its too late in the season to pull that and succeed.

Not to mention the fact that they are currently 5th place in the east...in a pretty good place to make playoffs and see what shakes out.

Teams that frighten me right now:

Florida
Carolina

Teams that I think Buffalo can leapfrog to sneak in:

Rangers
Montreal

Saturday notwithstanding (we just can't fucking beat Ottawa, ever), Lalime has been playing like a maniac, and having Vanek back boosted the offense right away. We have a game in hand on a couple teams so I'm very optimistic.

I swear to god, Tampa better not get the first overall pick again.

The NHL wouldn't mind doting upon them at all, as a Calgary fan I can attest to that.

DM: carolina really is on a tear. You better watch your ass...Even if buffalo does make playoffs, what do you think they will do when they get there?

They'd likely make it in as the 8th seed, matching them against Boston (as long they stop free-falling). Earlier in the season when Boston was thumping everyone the Sabres had their number; now that they're not looking as strong (and assuming we have a healthy Miller) I see the 8th knocking off the 1st.

Speaking of upsets, looks like Nash and the Jackets have a solid shot for making the playoffs.

If they get in as the 8th seed, I'm calling an upset with them knocking off the Wings (yea, they'll get first) in 6 games.

They've played the Wings pretty well this season.

Someone please clear this up for me.
Why did the Habs fire their coach if they were actually doing pretty well?

it probably is similar to the same logic that is keeping Mctavish and Lowe in Edmonton- and we call that faulty logic.

DM- boston could easily be in for an upset, they may be getting rather cocky.

Aladaron- I'd LOVE the jackets in the playoffs. Though, I'd prefer calgary do the knocking off of both SJ and Detroit as they have done exceptionally well against those teams this year. Calgary has always been a team that does well against the top seeds and gets its ass handed to it by idiots like Tampa bay.

Personally, I'm confident the flames will get 8th. I'm really mostly concerned about Anaheim, as they have ass whipped us twice in playoffs recently and continuously have our number throughout regular season. I just want those fucks out of playoffs.

Flames at 8th? They'll get 3rd unless Vancouver hauls major ass, which I don't see happening. Vancouver could get 4th maybe, but Chicago will be hard to get past.

AS of right now, I'm going to predict:

West:

1st Detroit vs. 8th Minnesota/Nashville (too hard to call, although I will predict Dallas missing the playoffs.)
2nd San Jose vs. 7th Columbus
3rd Calgary vs. 6th Edmonton
4th Chicago vs. 5th Vancouver

East:
1st Boston vs. 8th Carolina
2nd New Jersey vs. 7th Florida
3rd Washington vs. 6th Pittsburgh
4th Philadelphia vs. 5th Montreal

East is way easier to call than the fuckfest from the 6th to around the 13th in the West :/

at the moment there are 4 central teams in the top 8 for the west. love it. the way things look to be shaking out the wings should miss out on columbus for at least the initial round which might be enough to avoid them completely. as a wings fan I'd rather avoid the central teams but it is nice to see the division well represented since people normally view it as weak. Its almost as if the pacific and central switched places..

On a completely different note, when are you on spring break Carl?

Not to mention, had St. Louis not been struck with those injuries early in the year, they would be right in the thick of things as well. Expect them to be a force next year. Boyes, Berglund, Backes, McDonald, Oshie, Kariya up front (plus some good grinders) and the back end led by Calder winner Barret Jackman, Eric Brewer, Coliacovo, and Woywitka. Awesome, plus Mason is shaping up good in net too.

Another team to look forward too is Los Angeles. Frolov, Kopitar, Moller, Stoll, Brown and newly added Justin Williams up front and Quincy, Doughty and Johnson on D. Quick and Ersberg look solid so far too.

I really like Columbus this year (except when they beat Vancouver) and they have some great players. Mason and Nash will provide a bright future for the organization.

But all in all it seems to be that we're seeing a new wave of the NHL.

Yeah I was meaning they will get 8th at the bare minimum...

we all know who is getting 3rd and it sure as shit isn't vancouver.

Carl it must be nice to have your division hauling ass finally, though it seems like it's at the expense of the NW. Fucking Colorado.

West:

1st Detroit vs. 8th Minnesota/Nashville
2nd San Jose vs. 7th Edmonton
3rd Calgary vs. 6th Columbus
4th Chicago vs. 5th Vancouver

East:
1st Boston vs. 8th Carolina
2nd New Jersey vs. 7th Florida
3rd Washington vs. 6th Pittsburgh
4th Philadelphia vs. 5th Montreal
Fixed, Edmonton has no chance in hell placing 6th.

Can someone PLEASE tell me when the NHL started calling penalties en mass for pushing guys out of the crease when they are storming your net?

The flames have like 25 minutes of penalties in the first period including a major, a 10 misconduct and a shitload of minors...all for standing up for their goalie. Where's the goalie interference on Detroit? Why is it the flames consistently are drawing the extra penalties?

This is just disgusting. I am so sick of certain teams getting doted upon and others getting the shaft.
