Thats actually false, we have the "MTS Center" now, and its as big as any other Hockey Arena. Thats why there are always at least a couple exhibition games here before the season starts. Bettman knows that winnipeggers will come out to the Hockey games too, which is why he seems to like having a team in winnipeg. With the seats selling out even when the "Manitoba Moose" (AHL) play, it's definitely a good choice from a financial perspective.

However...

The main reason the Jets didnt stay, and are not returning any time soon, is because of Money. We had the money for a bit actually (but unfortunately Israel Asper passed away, and the son has lost control of the fund and company...) and now its basically a little "shakier" than it was. Its still a possibility / Deam, though :).

The Jets were awesome. Go Jets Go!

The MTS Center is too small by like 2000 seats or something as far as NHL standards goo. And I would not mind one bit if the Asper family lost their wealth.

Anyway, there is no "Official" rule for Stadium size, especially when the average stadium can only hold 1000-2000 more seats (MTS = 15 015 seats). The main argument is that Winnipeg wouldnt generate enough prophit (as it would it fill up the stadium every night?). However im willing to bet that season tickets alone sell out the whole arena, at least for the first year.

If a god damn Metallica concert sold out in 15 minutes, I dont think we should have a problem filling the stadium up with something with a much higher fan base.

Yea, I see what you mean. However you have to consider what they HAVE done with their wealth. Although I see it more than the average person (being Jewish), I do think you need to consider their human rights and charity contributions. And yea, I agree this isnt for the NHL thread, however to relate it to the topic, the Jets would have had a higher chance to have been moved back to Winnipeg if the Aspers still had the money they used to (its still alot, but not as much as it once was).
 
I dislike (understatement) the way they use their influence in Canada. They own most of the media in the country and all but a sliver here in Vancouver. The way they run their business is from the top down. You either agree with them or you're not working for them (and if you're in journalism that means you're unable to work at over half of the outlest in Canada). As a result, reporters are too afraid to cover things in a balanced way or speak their mind at all. It's a disgusting way to run a service which is so integral to democracy.

Anyway, that's not really a subject for the NHL thread.
 
yeah leino is awesome we're not trading him.. he's going to take samuelsson's place since i doubt the wings resign him (even though he's been pretty good during the playoffs).
 
Holy Shit. That hit on Havlat was 100% clean and that call was complete bullshit, did anyone see that?

Just because a player gets caught with his head down and gets absolutely cranked does not make it a penalty just because he stays down.

That basically ruined Detriots momentum for the whole game, when it should have given them momentum.
 
I agree with you heysup, I really dislike the NHL's reffing this playoffs on top of that example you just highlighted.

On a more serious note, there was a huge trip that Detroit made that wasn't called later in the game.

I don't like this whole "evening it out" way of reffing. You shouldnt be fucking up a call in the first place, nor should you be trying to balance it out by not calling penalties for the other team, or by calling more on the team that you helped previously.

Refs are taking too much outside input imo. I think the only reason they'd call that penalty is so that the crowd loved them instead of hated them. IDK, this is just moving away from hockey as it should be. Hockey is a physical sport, with hard hitting and the refs need to remember that >.>

A teacher at my school is "Scott Hartnel", who (even though they share the same name) is related the NHL player.
 
I went to school with Ryan Stone of the oilers. I think I mentioned it before.
My friend once played with Dany Heatley, they are the same age but heatly came down or something to help them learn to play! haha
 
Nice to see that the refs probably screwed Detroit out of another win. It would be nice to see the refs pull their heads out of their asses and call penalties based on the actually play not people getting hurt. I'm glad Leino is getting some time, he's going to be damn good I hope the Wings hold on to him. Detroit's scouts should be given some kind of award.

They are outrageously good, I must admit. They pull awesome drafts out of their ass all the time that other teams look over! I don't know how they do it.

Though, it could just be that it's a talented pool in every single draft year and detroit develops their prospects better than any other team...Anyone have insight into this curiousity?
