And Beauchemin's a Leaf, I knew it! Now we need to get rid of Kaberle and sign Cory Murphy ;)

Edit: Just remembered how many defencemen the Leafs have, so Cory Murphy probably isn't in the plans (a man can hope can't he?) Also it seems that Jeremy Williams and Kris Newbury are on their way to Detroit.

The Maple Leafs need to stop hiring players I like... it makes it tougher for me to hate them. :(

Just hire Shane Doan or something.

I'm still not sure what I think about that guy but this is very interesting for Toronto since if he IS as good as the hype is implying that suddenly ridiculous d-core and... the monster... will be pretty intimidating, and it's not a big risk since he's getting paid next to nothing and they have Toskala anyway. I really like how this team is getting constructed, if they can acquire a top line calibur C and RW(and Kaberle will net one of the two) they're probably top 7 or so in the conference, which is a hell of a jump from last year. Going to be a rough year in the East, I think - the Bruins, Caps, Penguins, Flyers, and Rangers sure look like locks for the playoffs going into the season, the Canes did pretty good last year as I recall, and Tampa improved a lot, as did Toronto although they lack the superstar offense... Devils dropped off a bit which might open a slot (but can you really imagine Brodeur out of the playoffs?), but man the top 10 or so will be tight! Too bad for the four or five terrible teams, though! Not sure which half Montreal falls on right now...

In other news I am debating on which team I wanna start on in NHL 10 :D I know I wanna be in the East as it there are just too many exciting players to go up against there now, but there are a lot of teams that'll be fun with the star you control added, I think. I'm of course partial to my Caps, which'll be more fun if the Lightning are good since two of the four division rivals won't suck, but there's just no one in the Southeast I really hate (possibly because they have no fans). Playing in the Atlantic would be fun with Crosby, Avery, and Pronger, but starting with the Devils in 09 did NOT win me a Stanley Cup, although I fucking love playing these @NJ games now so I might just plan on flaking after the first season again to have a rival :D! If both Toronto and Montreal manage to be playoff calibur playing with one of those would be fun, too, since that rivalry is always delightful, and being a BAP forward on Toronto with that D core...

I need my NHL10 fix is it September yet ;_;

Pity I doubt I'll be on a team as good as my 09 one though...

Ovechkin(95)-Backstrom(86)-St. Louis(88)
Semin(86)-Nylander(82)-Miettinen(77)
Fleischmann(79)-Laich(79)-Bradley(75)
Borque(76)-Kozlov(76)-Jackman(74)

Me(81)-Green(86)
Barker(83)-Lepisto(82)
Ehrhoff(79)-Paetsch(78)

Price(87)

I'm pulling for Atlanta man, their defense hasn't even been talked about. I mean look at this:

Ron Hainsey/Zach Bogosian
Pavel Kubina/Tobias Enstrom
Anssi Salmela/Nathan Oystrick/Boris Valabik

Very offensive oriented, mixed in with a bit of physicality. If John Anderson can get his system going, the defensive side won't be as bad as it was (though in fairness he didn't have solid goaltending). For the offensive lines, something like...

Ilya Kovalchuk/Nik Antropov/Colby Armstrong
Yvacheslav Kozlov/Todd White/Bryan Little

It could vary though (if Esposito and Kane make the team), and if Lehtonen can go a period without being injured, the Thrashers have a chance at the playoffs. ;)

Joe Sakic to announce his retirement.

He was one of the very few players remaining from when I started watching hockey. I actually don't have any other that comes to mind besides Mike Modano and Chelios.

yeah I think recchi might have been playing... not sure though, I think he wasn't yet. I roughly started following hockey in 91.

Yeah, I started with the Sabres when I was about 5 so there are only one or two left. It's sad, because he is still almost a point-per-game player, but he's just too banged up. (Fucking snowblower accident.)

I'm really interested in seeing who else Brian Burke is going for in the FA (since he said there are some forwards he'd like to sign). God can only hope it aint Todd Bertuzzi/Brendan Morrison (although Bertuzzi is coo now, but still =3).

That Koivu signing is so good for Anaheim... the D-core is a little weaker now (especially since afaik Wisnewski doesn't have a contract, but assuming they resign him...), but their top two lines are just insane now with Ryan-Getzlaf-Perry and Lupul-Koivu-Selanne. With Ebbet centering line 3 now it'll be a strong third line almost no matter who is on it, and the D remaining is hardly terrible... wonder if they can deal Giguerre to buff the D back up. Dangerous team!

Wouldn't be surprised to see Bertuzzi signed actually, Captain - they got on pretty well in Anaheim and Vancouver, and with Bertuzzi re-establishing himself a bit last year...

Well in all fairness, he was playing on a team with Jarome Iginla <_<
