Phaneuf and Giggy to Toronto? CRAZY

Phaneuf = good trade in my opinion if he's still an elite defenceman while playing in Toronto

Giguere= bad trade. Crappy and aging goalie. Toronto doesn't need another disappointment.

Edit: Surprised I didn't get raped in the pool. I didn't even adjust lines the entire week.

I love the Giggy trade, I mean we got of Jason "I like your chest" Blake. Sure we take on about 2 mill more salary for next year, but goaltending should no longer be a question.

surprised there isnt more analysis on this trade, I mean its pretty blockbuster.

I like both moves for the leafs, but now kaberle is just the odd man out in an incredibly physical system.

Kaberle is next to go, and bring on kovalchuk!!! yeah!!!

C'mon Jackal, I thought you were one of the smart Leaf fans! Way to prove me wrong. =/

Also it seems Jokinen + Prust are going to the Rangers in exchange for Kotalik and Higgins.

i guess it wasnt clear that I was 100% joking... I'm mocking what people in toronto are actually saying lol.

And im no leaf fan! im on the kane sex train dont you know?

I just want to post this somewhere I can easily find it.

hahahahahahahaha that is unbelievable

and damn the playoff picture is super tight right now in the pool o_o

teifu holding the last spot with me and carl knocking.

however teifu has a much harder schedule than me and carls is especially easy for the next 2 weeks

should be good!

Carl will take the spot Jackal, see you in consolation if I don't get 9-0d by aldaron first!

In other news I wanted to comment on the trades for sake of commenting but reading so much puck daddy has caused my opinions to congeal with Puck Daddy's so you can just read it from them: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/pu...s-from-the-Maple-Leafs-blockbu?urn=nhl,216700

These trades further my crush on Burke, but outside of Calgary (especially if that Jokinen thing Calgary) no one loses in any of those deals - everyone gets put in a slightly better position. Just Toronto the most, if Burke can move Kaberle, Finger, or both. And if he can move Jason Blake he can move ANYONE.

psycho will be fine to play against but i wouldn't call eradd an easy matchup considering the sedins are the hottest players in the league and jarome iginla has figured out how to play hockey again. that's a trap week for sure. either way, 10 points from 4th.. another big win or two puts me right in the mix for playoffs. I'm hoping for the 5th seed, since as it stands right now i really don't want to face gr33n's goaltending/capitals players in round 1 if i make it in. and i also want a shot at wer in the second round ;)

as for the big trades yesterday, i like the moves for toronto. i think the anaheim trade is mostly a win/win for both clubs since, at worst, giguere matches toskala in terms of numbers. the upside, though, is a more reliable and experienced goalie to push gustavsson for starts and a servicable goalie to play about half the games for this year and next season. the option is there after giguere's massive contract is up to potentially resign him for less money or let him walk if gustavsson looks legit to carry a bulk of the load. giguere getting shipped out of anaheim was expected after hiller signed a nice deal that essentially labeled him the starter and there had been rumors of toronto all year as the best trade partner. moving jason blake, who has vastly underperformed his cap hit, is a good deal for toronto and not a terrible one for anaheim either. as teifu was saying yesterday, better to tie up that kind of money (which is still less than what giguere is making) in a forward than in a goaltender that will ride the pine. toskala is simply a spot start rental and we'll see him walk after this year most likely.. unless he signs on for extremely cheap to be hiller's backup.

the phaneuf deal is a bit more sketchy for both sides but what i like about it is that it gives burke the ability to move kaberle whenever he wants. phaneuf is the offensive defenseman replacement except that he brings that physical edge. the great part about it from a leafs perspective is that burke sent out a bunch of players that he probably wasn't interested in resigning in the first place and bought a young up and coming defenseman and another highly ranked prospect. this is a lot of money tied up on the blueline though so it will be interesting to see how burke tries to replace the goal scoring after the loss of all those forwards in both deals. from calgary's end, phaneuf wasn't working out this season and was causing the same problem toronto now has even more of.. a lot of money spent on defense. calgary does get a ton of bodies up front now with some potential upside for iginla and opens up the options for other moves this trade deadline/offseason. my gripe with it is that i think calgary could have gotten a lot "more" out of a phaneuf trade than what they did. maybe not as many bodies, but better players. that's just me, though.

more moves are coming from both toronto and calgary imo since they just gave each other a bit more flexibility. we've already had reports on a jokinen to nyc trade so that could probably still happen.. but i could see another deal happening for them before the deadline as well.

edit: notice how i went the whole post without saying something that rhymes with feelya bovalbuck

rofl that's the funniest shit ive ever seen

the jersey shore part was the best ahahaha

heh the new leafs were all great in their first game, and of course the canadian media goes apeshit all over it. hopefully they can pull some weight for the poor leafs

And with the final precincts reporting, Kovalchuk goes to...

wait, what

this can't be right

The New Jersey Devils!?!?

I guess at least with Brodeur he doesn't NEED to play defense, but wow. Apparently confirmed to Devils but package coming back yet to be announced. They have very few quality prospects in their system, I can't imagine this is going to make even the slightest bit of sense to me.

EDIT: Apparently for: Nicklas Bergfors, Johnny Oduya, 1st rounder, and suspended prospect Patrice Cormier (remember him? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzhF2viguGs&feature=related)
