I doubt the Devils expect to keep him long term. Lou and Marty (and Lemaire, for that matter) don't have many years left, one last shot for them.


Apparently the deal is slightly worse for Atlanta than initially reported. They swap their 2nd round pick for the Devils, which could conceivably basically negate that 1st round pick the Thrashers are receiving if the Devils go deep and the Thrashers tank with like 26-30 R1 and 1-4 R2. Thrashers also send Devils Anssi Salmela who is formerly Devils property.
 
i wonder if they will try to have some sort of ultimate sniper line of like

parise - zajac - kovalchuk

it shouldnt be too hard for him to move to the right side

the whole kovalchuk situation is pretty funny. the offer he apparently turned down seems odd, because he doesn't strike me as one of those players who wants lucrative contracts, but rather he wants to win. to be honest he probably just wanted out of atlanta, and who could blame him, since there's not much winning going on there. there's absolutely no way i see him getting more than 101 mil over 12 next year when he signs with whatever team, and i really don't think he expects it either.

anyways yeah the devils are a hell of a lot better for sure. definitely a force to be reckoned with in the eastern conference, but of course it's hockey nothing is certain heh. though they could definitely prove their worth by winning 11 in a row, like my streaking sens... (and the caps ok i know)
 
Man, Jacques Lemaire will hate him. He's one to force a system on his players. Not so sure this is the brightest of ideas.
 
This deal sickens me, as a fan of a team in the East who is not either named the Devils or on a 10+ win streak.

DAMMIT.

still awake. Shouldn't be awake. Distraught over Brendan Burke... I have a shortage of famous people I consider role models in any way at all, so it is particularly annoying when they perish young. This one in particular... how many years until we get an equivalent?

And that's about all I have to say on it.
 
I'm just curious: what was so awesome about Brendan Burke? Apart from the fact taht he came out of the closet (which is an awesome accomplishment also).

Anyways, Buffalo gets blanked. By Mason. Wow. Bad game for them eh?

In other news, Canucks power through the Bruins in the third period and in the shut out. Luongo was pretty good in the last stretch. Bruins earn 10th straight win.

Wow god hates me. Not only did I not put in Ovechkin today (I swear I set up my lines), but he gets a hat trick and would've made the score a lot more reasonable =/ Fuck you WER =[
 
so the islanders have not won a game since i've gone back to college (dropping their last 7). obviously going back to school was a bad idea, and tbh i really should be angry at myself for allowing that spark of hope to shine through after winning 7 of the first 9 games of January

at least i'm still doing good in fantasy, with a strong week from the goalies. i'm getting a bunch of starts this week, too, so hopefully when turco fucks up a game or two emery and bryz can make up for it
 
Man, I can't believe how close fantasy is this year... the playoff race was close last year, but it's gotten even better this year. Can only imagine next year if it keeps trending closer like this...

Being in the race has forced my hand on some personnel moves I wouldn't have made the last two years where I was running away with a first round bye, but I like the tension this year more. I mean, I'm competitive enough that I could be 100 points in first and I would still tantrum when I lost PIM due to a misconduct on the last day or whatever, but it's sort of fun to be in the race, even though I still think I'll miss the playoffs. It's weird to be 3 weeks (well, fantasy weeks) out of the playoffs and still be able to feasibly end up anywhere from 2nd to 10th... I like it.

I'll be particularly interested in seeing if aldaron can ruin my year again though, that match-up the first week of march gives me bad feelings (be a bro and bench your team!! ;)).

As our resident stats nerd here are the schedules (with ranks as of right now) for the teams still battling for playoff spots. I'm excluding WER and Green because I think they both have enough of a cushion that they're clinched since so many of the people below them play each other. I'm also excluding Psycho and Eraddddddddddddddddddddd because it would take a miracle if it is even mathematically possible. I was tempted to count Cashew as safe too, but after last week he's probably in play again since all the teams he's against will be desperate and that tends to lead to creative management.

Sigh, 19/50. I haven't been that long of a hockey fan (started in 06?)

My friend on the other hand, freaking 41. Hockey fan all his life.
 
i only got 20/50 but after seeing the other names it was more of like an "oh duh that makes sense" than a "who the fuck" which is good
