The Everything NHL Thread

Synre, I don't see why you think Kovalchuk is going to LA. They realize that taking on a contract like what Kovalchuk wants will screw them over considering that next year Doughty's a restricted free agent, and almost all of their young talent is due for a pay increase after their entry-level deal expires.

If any of you guys have an xbox 360 and play the NHL series we could definitely use some more players for our club. At the moment we usually play with 3 skaters and it would be nice to field a team of 5 skaters. Please post if you have any interest..

edit: no pookar

edit: we will train you for free

I love the Sabres signing Neidermayer. He is like a white version of Mike Grier, who was our best player in the playoffs. We are apparently letting Adam Mair go (awful move imo) and replacing him with a version that has won the Cup. I also love re-signing Lalime, we could do MUCH worse for a backup keeper.

Also, I lolled at Tim Kennedy going to arbitration. The rookie, hometown Buffalonian Tim Kennedy, he of <30 points last year. Dickhead.

As far as I know, Zherdev hasn't officially been signed by the Flyers.

From what I understand the Flyers are trying to do something with Gagne before they sign Zherdev. Of course I've also heard that Zherdev is more interested in getting back to the NHL than he is for the money, so he may not be a 3 or 4 million sign, so Gagne may still be on the team.

I'm a Flyers fan, and honestly I think the team is good as it is at this point. The only thing the Flyers should be looking to sign is a goalie. Leighton and Boucher are decent, though a better goalie would never be a bad thing. I'm thinking this won't happen since the Flyers currently have one of the best 6 man defense squads in the league, which will hopefully mean that the opposing team won't be able to get as many shots off, preventing more goals.

Edit: And the Flyers have just made it official that Zherdev has been signed to a one year contract. Not sure on the price of the contract, though Zherdev was reportedly seeking $4 million a year, though I have a feeling it may not be quite that much. I guess Gagne or someone else is going then for sure.

Clearly to put the Hawks in a terrible situation and piss them off a maximum.

Matter of revenge imo, they DID eliminate them in 4.

"clearly", assuming you actually couldnt tell. An answer to the prior post.

It's edited.

thanks...

ya know, since we were just on video games... i've had this idea that nintendo should make their own "hockey" game with mii versions of th pros. they could probably even find a way to update actual team rosters via wii-connect 24... same for the other major sports leagues. only in my dreams...

They know the Blackhawks can't really do much about it. They'll happily take the draft picks, anyway.

not sure i feel sorry for the hacks or not... i rooted for em to win the cup... meh, i don't like both teams at the moments... Ones our rival, the other needs refs to win... so as long as they're torturing themselves, im fine :)

Let's just go out on a limb and say the Hawks will be pretty average next year. They gambled with a "win it all now" approach last year, and it worked, but they knew it would hobble them for years to come. They have been picked apart in a week.

Blackhawks match the offer sheet. I kinda like this (the price isn't too much more than he would've gotten anyways), but now it just means they'll probably have to get rid of Sharp or something.

I just feel this is a good time to point out that Chicago has $113k of cap space, only 15 contracts signed for next season, and Niemi's RFA case still going to arbitration.

as good as niemi was, he wasnt the reason chicago won the cup. put any goalie between the pipes that is getting paid nothing please.

Niemi wasn't that great in the playoffs as Jackal said. And he really wasn't the reason they won. Sure, he pulled off some really tough saves in terms of coverage, but his issue is that he gives away FAR too many rebounds. I noticed that even a lot of simple to average shots which most keepers would hold on to were let go by Niemi and his rebound radius is honestly horrible, it always seems to just fall into the sticks of the opponent. As we saw in the playoffs, the Flyers were able to score so many goals because of the fact that Niemi made space for a lot of rebounds which were so close to the net. Also, DON'T GET RID OF SHARP! </3

Fun Fact: after mocking Jackal whole year about his draft in the Smogon fantasy league. His goalie did win the ring.

Draft Budaj next season please.
