i definitely don't want to pick on the boards, the live draft is so much fun :s

as for +/-, i think it is actually a pro that it accounts for team factor, as i think that has some sort of value and adds an extra layer of strategy to the game. A player on a good team should have more value than a player on a bad team, if the players are identical in all other aspects.

in baseball you are going to get more RBIs hitting in the middle of the yankee lineup than the pirates one. in basketball a high offense running team is probably going to have a higher volume of serviceable fantasy players... that is just how the game works.

As for the standard v auction, I am kind of sad so many people don't want the auction but oh well

Short post, and not containing any information of substance....but

I am alive, and I don't care how we organize the league, but as long asw e do the important stuff on a Sunday, I'm in to play, and hopefully succeed in securing the last place spot this season rather than blowing it in the last week and taking 11th.
 
Just waqnt to clarify as well, most of my posts are via my phone...so that's why they are short and sweet.

Personally, I know we threw around some sort of keeper league at least once or twice last year, I'm okay with that if we have the same people playin each year, haven't read much about the auction but still could be a viable pick for us.

Ill be able to be a bit more active on the boards this year...I hope, with me being able to use my phone for posting, so hopefully ill catch you guys around

let's get this shit set

we have to decide between pookar / gouki / psycho / eraddd for the last two slots (or run with 14?) and decide on whether or not we're dropping PIMs for hits

I don't mind expanding to 14 if all 4 promise activity, but if we stick with 12 I have to throw my support behind pookar / gouki, the two people who are active in smogon irc channels at the moment

Regarding stats, I've grown to like the 2:1 skater:goalie ratio, so I definitely want to drop one skater stat for hits, and dropping PIMs makes the most sense there (hits represent physicality without the counter-intuitive "benefits" for a penalty).

+/- imo is a stupid stat (Synre lamented that he wished there was a ratio for takeaways : turnovers...which would be perfect lol), but like Jackal said, I don't think it is awful to have a team based stat (that's essentially what the goalie stats are) and it lets us keep the 2:1 ratio so...fine...I support keeping it -.-
 
Personally I'd like to include both Hits and Shots Blocked without dropping anything. If it came down to dropping things, though, I'd have to say drop PIM and +/-, in that order.

Since I can't quote well on my phone....I undrrstand this aspect but also I've been around for 3 of 4 seasons now and might? Not 100% sure be the only person out of the whole group to play hockey...not that that has any bearing on fantasy. Not sure what exactly being active on irc channels has to do with anything though...some of us don't run irc or care to use it so

What it boils down to is if you guys wantme in the league fine, if not I'm not going to beg and plead to get in, so let me know somehow so I can stick that code in and give my availability for draft times...

Quite frankly, I know most of you aren't eager to have me on the fantasy team after the fiasco with my team last year. My lack of commitment isn't endearing myself to anyone. Also, my reason for not going on irc is mainly because I find myself out of place in it. Why would I spend my time just watching people talk about subjects that I myself find weird or alien? And plus, I sometimes get error messages when trying to connect to the irc anyways. If needed, I'd probably go on IRC just for the fantasy hockey.

So, although it'd be nice to play this year again and this year, I really do promise to apply myself (again, it's probably hard to believe me for you guys), and if you do expand to 14 people, it'd be nice, but if it's just 12, then, it'd be more logical for the group to pick the others over me. No hard feelings really.
 
First off, let me say this: the more, the merrier.

I am all in favor of expanding to 14 if the interest is there and all of you want to actively participate throughout the season. However, keep in mind that we're also trying to look long term and make this a keeper league in the coming seasons. When you say you're going to be active this year it also means a commitment to being active next year and the year after that.. and even beyond. Honestly, all I'm asking is that every member take 10-15 minutes every Sunday night to set their team roster for the week. I can't speak for the others but that's what I'll define as "active." I think that is a very easy requirement to meet. At the end of the day it is just fantasy hockey but it becomes much more fun when people remain competitive by actively keeping up.

If we do expand to 14, I will adamantly push for an auction draft. Lucking into the number 1 pick becomes even more important without it.
 
Come to think of it, I think I also support going to 14 teams with an auction draft.

I'd like to have subsequent drafts determined by finish, though (14th gets 1st pick, etc).
 
I'm ok with it, as long as you guys are inactive when I face you :)

Edit: Is the current draft day listed the actual time? If not, Jackal should stop being inactive and change it =[
 
right now I will set the league to this, based on people votes

Keepers: Yes; 3
Division: Yes (can decide on split later)
Max Aqusition: 50
Max/Week: 4
Stats: G A +/- Hits PPP SOG W GAA SV%

So all that is left is Standard vs Auction, Number of people playing and who the last 2 are. (and of course the draft time)

As for the first three, I kind of really liked the idea of this year being an auction and subsequent years going last place gets first pick, second last gets second pick, etc to add onto the keepers. If enough people approve I really want to do that!

I kind of dislike thinning the free agent pool down to nothing by adding 14 teams... and it also fucks with the playoffs (the consolation playoffs being 6 teams makes things work out nice). I would really like to keep it at 12, and I kind of am indifferent to who those last 2 are. I would say pookar/Gouki because they are the active chatters on irc (let's face it irc is the lifeblood of this pool) but then again most of you know I am not on irc a whole lot during school so who am I to use that argument. Basically you guys decide (and soon) about that, but I really want 12 people.

Draft time lol... is there anyone that a late afternoon/early evening Sunday time wouldn't work for?

Synre and I both had this in mind even though we didn't specifically mention this.
 
Posting to say I suspect the FA pool would still be somewhat reasonable, people would just need to actually predict when players are going to do something rather than clicking outrage

I mean, clicking FAs who have giant bodies of successful work and who should have been rostered already.

In favor of SPL teammate Gouki and NHL 11 teammate Psycho if we do 12. Enough of the latter group for our own division, lol.

Right now, from the "main ten," we have 4 auction people: Synre, Jackal, Carl, Gr33n, and 5 standard people: Aldaron, Justin, Vincent, zerowing, wer, with Kishimoto voting standard first but auction if keeper.

However, if it is 14 people, wer switches to auction and Carl is adamantly for auction. There also seems to be heavy opposition for 14 so...it looks like before we decide standard or auction, we need to decide 12 or 14 and then the final 2 is we pick 12.

Right now synre / carl / wer want 14, and jackal / justin want 12. I did a few mock drafts both auction and standard for 14 people...and don't really like 14 much anymore.

I'm going to throw my vote in for 12.

I laughed while reading this, sounded like a complicated math problem/riddle. But in all seriousness, draft type should boil down to if it's keeper or not. Standard would be such ass (unless you get first overall), and we'd be doing standard after this year.
 
Opening up a bit to an auction, I'll just need to try it out a few times.

See if I can make a high pitch for my main guys. It shouldn't handicap me much, as the rest of my usual team is not exactly hard to select. During drafts, I get most of them much ahead of their draft position.

If I come up with a selection I usually never manage to in drafts, then I'll vote for that. Only concern being I have no clue how to auction properly.

That's 4 in the night for me with a working day after. If it was saturday 10 pm, I could do. I'll wake up for that, just not on workdays. Sorry, as for who fills it, I'm fine with who ever you guys decide on.
 
As far as a draft time, I'd prefer 10pm est or later on Sunday, or 12am Saturday if no one else can make it. I am also switching my vote for auction.
