The Everything NHL Thread

Somewhere Bettman is shaking his tiny, tiny fist at the way that contract is set-up which I think we all can enjoy. I'm not sure how Pegula is convincing all these players to buy in to Buffalo but this is really neat to see, wish more owners were this good.

Jonathan Ericsson 3.25 mil/year for 3 years? What the fuck? I know he's a young player and he's got the tools, but holy shit, overpayment imo.

Scratch that, he's 27 and hasn't had over 15 points yet. Someone enlighten me.

Since when do you sign PYLONS for 3.25 million/year? I heard they come cheaper at the Home Depot, and they're much more usefull..

I knew they wouldn't let him walk, but the term there worries me -- he just suddenly showed signs of competency again now that he was in a contract year, though evidently Detroit's brass thinks more of his character than I do. It was only three and four years ago where he was logging minutes with Lidstrom in the playoffs and was supposedly going to be the future #1. I think the current opinion of him is as warped as that one was, but if he can play to potential he's a strong second pairing defenseman with size that Detroit has a hard time finding. If that happens, it's a good price. I'm not as optimistic as management, that's a crazy generous amount/term combo for an inconsistent player. On the bright side, Eaves' cap hit is only 1.2 for 3 years so this kinda washes, he's getting a little better every year.

And yeah, I meant the Reghyr trade in reference to Pegula, not many owners who'll try to convinve a lifelong member of one team to waive their NTC and do it successfully; Ehrhoff actually mentioned that type of commitment was part of why he signed. Now I think the worry is that Pegula goes too far and doesn't let his GM and coach do their jobs, but i'm glad Buffalo has an owner doing so much. They deserve it.

EDIT: Also interesting that Columbus actually signed Wisnewski. He and Carter aren't gonna make them contenders in the West but this seems like as much roster competency as I can remember from the Jackets. They might be kind of OK again this year if Mason can stop a couple beachballs and large rocks.

Yeah, this day has been pretty crazy. As a Sabres fan, I'm super excited for the coming season, though I'm disappointed about losing my boy Montador. Hopefully he recovers fully from that concussion and plays well for Chicago.

And seriously, fuck Jagr.

I now completely hate the Canadiens. 4yrs/18mil for Cole? Seriously? I was hoping he would stay with the Canes for 3.5mil a year at most.

1.9/year for Higgins, 2/year for Salo. Fucking loving signing depth players for great prices. Salo is great when healthy and Higgins hopefully will score 35-40 while playing on our second line on occasions while throwing around a few hits.

And reading around, I honestly think Ericsson should've gotten 2-2.25 mil/year tops.

Settle down.

Also damn, Buffalo gets Ville Leino.

The french FA chronicles :

I laughed when I saw that Talbot just signed for as long as 5 years. Haha, good job Max, your agent must be as much a troll as you are.

Then laughed again when Bélanger signed with the Oilers after dissing Winnipeg so much over the spring. Very glad he found a home quickly this year though, his last year wait was ridiculous as I felt he could be a very useful third centerman in any team in the league.

Flows even more french to Tampa, with Gervais and Garon and the resigning of MAB. Assistant GM Julien Brisebois must have an incredible pull on Steve Yzerman. This team is everything like I wish the Montréal team was, they make it easy for me to pull for them again this year.

Théodore to Florida where he is promised the starting job ; I really harbour hope this will revitalize his career. It helps that this team seems to be making real efforts to improve (although losing Vokoun isn't much a move in that direction).

Giguère to play second violon to Varlamov in Colorado, where as a non-Maple Leaf I can resume my support to... and still waiting on the Simon Gagné signing.

I should really start bothering to delete the stupid shit in this thread... (EDIT: did so. Left Carl's post though it works even out of context. If I could just like Sports Arena ban Eraddd and J-man this thread would get 10000x better.)

In other news, Richards signs with the Rangers to the surprise of no one who was paying even the slightest bit of attention. If they don't trade anyone I enjoy the idea of X/Richards/Gaborik and X/Dubinsky/Callahan a lot during the brief stretches Gaborik is actually healthy. They really need some Defensemen(only Staal, Girardi, McDonagh, and Del Zotto signed... and Del Zotto spent most of last year in the AHL while McDonagh was their #7) and Left Wings, though. Given what little is left on the FA market you kinda imagine them making some trades (hopefully not breaking up those nice C/RW tandems) to fix that.. if they get a decent second pairing and fill out the forwards some they could be pretty good this year, Richards should fix a decent amount of their offensive incompetency. Still 16m under the cap, too...

Is this thread now exclusive to a clique deemed worthy ?

Who cares if Eraddd believes Chris Higgins is on his way to have a 40 goals season. He isn't.... but David Perron is (or at least 30) !

I like Brad Richards a whole lot as a player but I kind of at the same time wish for a reenactment of the Gomez-Drury fiasco. Other than the Leafs, the Rangers are that other old team I much enjoy seeing waste money and miss the playoffs.

Edit : Less than 7 mils a year? I'm kind of impressed he went for this low considering the amount of teams in the running. I also think this may seal Simon Gagné going to Los Angeles.

Edit2 : Bergenheim out of TB. =( This may piss off a few Lightning fans.

Connolly to Toronto =o God, I was scared because some idiot on HF wrote it so it sounded like he had a 9 mill cap hit. Honestly I don't mind the signing, it's only for 2 years and the Leafs needed a center (still need a #1 center =[). He's probably better than any other center we have, so maybe he can get Kessel into the 40 goal range.

That's fine, the Leafs only play well in the second half anyways.

Also I don't mind Eradd's comments, he sounds like a bandwagoner but he's no where near as bad as J-man and his attempts to erect a statue of every Red Wings player in existence.

I do that and then some for every Québec player in existence.

On that note, Simon Gagné to the Kings. He was great after the all-star break and during the playoffs last year. Praying for a season without injuries.
