The Everything NHL Thread

Brad Boyes to the Isles for a 1-year 1 million dollar contract. I find that very surprising for a guy who once scored 43 goals.

That is looking like the best deal I've seen so far. If the guy doesn't produce, it doesn't hurt at all. He definitely has potential to put up 60 points playing with Tavares though. Not bad at all for 1mil.

I agree with Justin, that's a very fail deal for a guy who is still pretty young and has the potential to produce. We took on a bloated contract and then stuck him on the 4th line of an already offensively-challenged team, of course he didn't put up numbers.

Also, I was looking through the UFAs (RFAs that didn't get tenders) and I was surprised to see the names in there. Oh, how the mighty have fallen:

Peter Mueller
Angelo Esposito (lol remember him)
Cam Barker
Wojtek Wolski
Gilbert Brule
Benn Ferriero
Marc-Andre Gragnani (this one makes me giggle)
Eric Fehr (I mean, wow)

35-year old Filip Kuba signed a 2-year deal for $8 million? I find that this is overpayed. Dan Girardi makes $3.4 million...

I'd like the Oilers to sign Peter Mueller to a 1 year Cam Barker type contract. The only reason he sucked last year is that he's been decimated by injuries, but he's a big young center with lots of offensive upside, and if he continues to suck, it's a 1 year deal, low risk high reward.

samuelsson and tootoo to detroit... samuelsson for 2 years with ntc and tootoo for 3..

Losing Salo hurts like a fucking bitch but getting garrison for less than a mil more per year definitely makes up for it. Also makes wideman's contract look even worse still

4.6 per year for 6 years is a lot for a guy who had one decent season with Brian Campbell passing him the puck on the PP. If he turns out to be a one year wonder they will have his bad contract and Ballard's.

Yep, Calgary screwed up again with Wideman's contract...
On another note, what the heck is up with Souray almost making $4 million a season????

At least you didn't bring Joe Corvo in. For the third time. The. third. time.

The last time the Hurricanes had Joe Corvo, he ASKED TO BE TRADED.

Joe Corvo.

He sucks.

He definitely played his ass off this season, as he had a lot to prove. He started the season well but was slowed by injuries. Regardless, that's a lot of money for a d-man his age with his history.

Don't be thick. He had a great 2010/2011 year, spearheading the Panther's shutdown pairing with Weaver. While no one expects him to repeat what he did with the Panthers back in 2011/12 especially without Campbell, we expect him to shore up our second pairing with Edler, being a good defensive defenseman while chipping in a point here and there on the powerplay. He's got a great shot and being fed passes from the Sedins and Hamhuis/Edler never hurts. He's 27, as opposed to tossing Salo and Souray contracts that have cap hits that are less than a mil less than Garrison's cap hit. He can act as the role of the RHD we've sorely been looking for (let's put it this way: Tanev had to step in when Salo went down because Ballard is atrocious on the right hand side, playing like Jeff Finger or Brett Lebda at times).

Also it makes Wideman's contract look pretty bloated especially with that NTC thrown in. I'm glad Garrison took a discount to play for us.

So the Bruins didn't do anything except re-sign Rask and Kelly. I guess that's a good thing.

Do any of you think they COULD do something? I heard on the radio that they're shopping Krejci around, plus there's the whole Tim Thomas drama going on. Maybe a trade could be an option if they're not looking to spend money on free agents?

Also, lol Dennis Wideman. What an inspiration to us all. I love when players go out and get theirs.

Bruins have been shopping Krejci for a while now. I guess they could be poking around Rick Nash still but not sure they have/would be willing to give up what the Blue Jackets are asking for.

As for TT, they could move him to a team looking to hit the cap floor as his cap hit would be 5 mil but he'd only be owed 3 mil the way his contract is structured. Plus, I was reading that if he didn't play like he claims on doing, the team he gets traded to would be able to, I guess, "suspend him" for not showing up and be able to count that cap hit the following season as well. Or something of that nature. Not sure how that would wok out if he officially retired for whatever reason, though.

In general, I've read quotes from various GMs all stating that due to how shallow the number of quality FAs is, trades are a better option for teams looking to improve. That said, hurry up already Parise, Suter, etc.. and come on Anaheim and Columbus, trade your disgruntled wingers! I want some excitement..

I AM JIZZING EVERYWHERE

But seriously, this is fucking awesome. The singular reason we missed the playoffs last year is because Miller got decked and missed time (no really: we were leading the Northeast when that happened, tanked, and when he finally shook off the aftereffects we dominated late but fell short). Nobody is going to fuck with our goalie this year if they have to answer to Ott 'N' Scott.

Also, dumping Roy was something we've been trying to do for years. We actually played better when he was out of the lineup, even though he is a solid point producer. He is just generally seen as a super-selfish player who doesn't really make players around him better. With the up-and-coming young guys, we needed to move him out to make room. Ott is a 20-goal scorer and faceoff winner, something we SORELY need (especially after losing Gaustad). I've also always referred to Ott as a guy you hate when he's on the other team, but love when he's on yours. I can't wait to root for him.

Pardy was pretty much thrown in there to make it a fair deal, which was retarded because he's only the 19th lefty d-man on our depth chart. (No, seriously, look it up: Myers is the only righty.) I don't see him cracking the lineup, especially with guys like McNabb ready to step up. We also have to move a d-man, we have a complete glut of NHL-ready guys taking up space. Leopold seems to be the consensus, but I hope not, I like his offensive upside and responsibility in the defensive end. Sekera still could be great if he stopped turning the puck over, I think Weber might have hit his ceiling. I like his grit, but if I had to move a guy right now, it'd be him.

Everyone is saying the Sabres are making a run at Bobby Ryan, and it definitely makes sense. But everyone also says we'd have to give up Tyler Ennis, and I say fuck that noise. This team is basically the same as it was last year, minus Roy/Boyes/Hecht (who barely played anyway) and plus Scott/Ott/Pardy. Add in Marcus Foligno and Brayden McNabb and whatnot, and this is a playoff team. I don't think any more tinkering is necessary.

The Boyes contract was a good gamble, I think. Worst case scenario, he plays out like this year's Brian Rolston at a fifth of the price. I don't think it's realistic for him to put up numbers like Parenteau did last year, but I could see him breaking 50 points.

Getting Visnovsky and Carkner were a huge deal for us, since our defense was our biggest issue last year. With Vish we finally have someone who can play with Streit, which is refreshing after seeing him paired with Steve Staios most of last year. Carkner should be a good 3rd pairing Dman for deHaan/Ness/insert Bridgeport player here.

As a fan of ASoIaF, I find it hard to trust in any guy named Boulton...
