The Everything NHL Thread

Wow, definitely didn't see that one coming! Still not convinced they are a cup contender or anything but could probably shoot for 8th place.

glad it was a harmless team like the Wild instead of a team like Detroit or Pittsburgh

So true. If Detroit had landed Suter they could have remained a Cup Contender for a few more years. Pittsburgh lost Jordan Staal and Zbynek Michalek and have done nothing yet to replace them. They are still a Cup contender but they dont look as impressive on paper as they did entering last year's playoffs.

Minnesota is definitely not a Cup contender but they should make the playoffs consistently.

Minnesota just went from a borderline playoff team to a legitimate contender within hours O.o

Wild's D past the top pairing is grim. Suter/Gilbert is a great top pairing but after that they have little.

Parise, although a really solid winger, isn't enough of an addition to turn around one of the worst offenses from last year. He's not elite level like Crosby or Giroux and Minny will probably have to trade some of their offense to upgrade their D.

Not to mention that taking on these two huge contracts have basically pushed them up against the cap so they can't even really sign anyone else

They will probably make the playoffs but I do not see them as cup contenders next year or possibly even the year after that.

You're seriously underestimating Minnesota's youth. Granlund will very likely step in and fill a top 6 role immediately, and is more than capable of contending for the Calder next year. Guys like Coyle and Brodin could potentially make an impact as well. Any fan of a Northwest Division team knows just how good a goalie Niklas Backstrom really is, and with Suter now in front of him, his numbers could drastically improve. Suter and Parise are players that make everyone else around them better (obviously not to the extent of a Crosby or Giroux), and if it is enough to rejuvinate Dany Heatley, or even just make him a 30-35 goal scorer again, Minny will be a downright scary team.

Detroit missing the playoffs this year? Possibly.

Minny isn't ready to hoist the cup, but they are well on their way much like the Oilers. Compared to Calgary they look like a cup contender though...lol

I AM SO SAD

PARISE ;_;

PARRRRRIIIIIISSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEE

dammit he's such a classy player / guy i cant even hate on him

gl in minny :'(

edit: also, about people wondering about their cap situation, they have a mostly full team for this year (that D...but let's just say NWO is right about some solid younger D) and next year they lose 4 mil from bouchard, 3.5 mil from cullen (surprised if they didnt get him back), and the biggie, 6 mil from backstrom. losing the 6 mil from backstrom is big cause harding is tied down for 1.9 mil for the next 2 years.

so basically if they dont like what they see this next year, they can free up 10 mil in space by dropping bouchard and backstrom, replace backstrom with harding, and use that 10 mil to attract another dman, and then the next year they lose heatley's 7.5 mil, and they can attract more.

wild are looking good now imo, and great 2-3 years from now.

The sad thing is, Carle's contract doesn't even look that bad after seeing what Wideman got and Garrison's "hometown discount" (wtf would he have been payed on another team?).

Scott Howson refuses to be realistic about Rick Nash's value, asking for Couturier and B.Schenn from the Flyers, Skinner from the Hurricanes, Couture from the Sharks. WTF? Don't be delusional Scott. This could turn out to be the biggest mess in the history of the Quebec Blue Jackets.

With the exception of Carolina, all the teams that want Nash are in Cup contention. None of them are going to blow up their team to get this guy, especially when he's 28. Its funny how he's being talked about more than Bobby Ryan who's 25 and also available.

Lars Eller recently signed a contract and he makes like $1.3 million per season. Then you've got like Taylor Pyatt making $1.55 million per year? o_O
