the good old ps2

I remember Zone of Enders was only big because it came with the MGS2 demo, which was fun as hell in its own right. My buddies and I played through that hundreds of times. PS2 also came around when I was in 8th grade which was a pivotal year in my life and one of the most memorable for me fsr. I didn't have too many games but the ones I did have were definitely enjoyable.

if you're not playing the first star wars battlefront instead of the second you're doing it wrong just fyi
Yes. I spent hours upon hours playing this game and I didn't get bored at all.
BACKWARDS FUCKING COMPATABILITY

Yes! PS2 was my first exposure to Playstation games because I never had a PS1... not because I was some nintendo loyalist or something, just that I never asked for a PS1 since my friends had them. Some games I bought once I got my PS2:

The fact that it was backwards compatible with PS1 games really made it an exceptional console and on a lesser extent being able to play DVDs on it.

Oh. My. God. YES!

The backwards compatibility was HUGE for me since I had such a big PS1 library(the console I REALLY grew up on). I was just so happy I could play all my RPG's/fighters that I had on PS1. Though, I agree with the fact that the PS2 had the best RPG lineup. The second best though was...the PS1 :) . Man, Sony had the RPG market on lock back then, now that I think about it.

PS2 faves: Final Fantasy X (and X-2), Final Fantasy XII, Marvel VS. Capcom 2, Capcom VS. SNK 2, DBZ Budokai, Grandia II and Devil May Cry 3 just to name a few.

Kingdom Hearts, I just...could never get into. I have great respect for the series, but I've never had enough willpower to even finish the first one. I basically got to Tarzan's area and was like "well, if I'm not into this game now, I never will be", so I stopped.

Is it bad that I never bought an actual DVD player because I had a PS2 to play them on?

PS2 broke ages ago so I had to buy a used Xbox copy of it (for $5.99). I still play the Xbox copy to this day but it just doesn't feel the same :(

Burnout 3 is probably the best car game I've ever played. So much fun.

I've recently bought a few old games I've never played before, namely ratchet and clank up your arsenal, metal gear solid 2, metal gear solid 3, and silent hill 2 (all for ps2), as well as metal gear solid, resident evil and resident evil 2 for ps1. Gonna be a fun few weeks.

I feel as if I'm missing out on life for not having the chance to try a few good games such as the Ratchet and Clank series, SW Battlefront and etc ever since ALL the game stores in my region practically stopped selling PS2 games. ;-;

spent many a day playing this

I just spent a couple of good hours playing this on the PS2 with my lil bro just now :D It's one of the few games we have that's still in mint condition so I'm keeping my eyes on it like a hawk.

I don't know about you guys but I remember playing the Metal Slug series with my cousins from 7am straight till midnight when we were kids.

AND THE MOMENT I FOUND OUT THAT I COULD PLAY CRASH TEAM RACING(PS1) ON THE PS2

Man I could just list all of the kickass PS2 games I used to play. Damn good console it was.

Ah fuck it might as well

  • Jak and Daxter games (Classics the lot of them, 2 is a tad hard though.)
  • GTA III (Of course)
  • Ratchet and Clank games (Probably my favourite of the PS2 franchises.)
  • Kingdom Hearts (Fun JRPG, has the best graphics of any PS2 game not called Killzone as well.)
  • Killzone (Okay this game was actually kinda bad, but it looked great so oh well.)
  • Klonoa 2: Lunetea's Veil (If you played this you are awesome. Also a candidate for most underrated PS2 soundtrack ever.)
  • Puyo Pop Fever (The best falling block puzzler there is imo.)
  • Crash Twinsanity (The best of the non Naughty Dog Crash games. Is very glitchy though, so be warned.)
  • Burnout (Extremely solid arcade racer. Kinda wish it would make a comeback, don't think there has been a new game since Paradise.)
  • Metal Gear Solid 3 (Yeah we all know about the MGS games to be honest.)
  • Ape Escape 3 (Fun little game with a Metal Gear Solid crossover minigame for whatever reason.)
  • Resident Evil 4 (Better on Wii imo but still fantastic.)
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (Damn this game is a classic. Best sports game I have played so far.)
  • Devil May Cry 3 (Best Devil May Cry game by far.)
  • Sly Cooper series (A rather interesting series of platformers, the third game feels a bit muddled though.)
  • Rayman Revolution (Amazing remake of one of the best 5th gen games.)
I never played Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, Persona 4 or Rayman 3 yet so there's still some life left in the PS3 for me.

EDIT: OH FUCK HOW COULD I FORGET BATTLEFRONT, NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND AND MEGA MAN X9 THOSE WERE AWESOME.

it may be a movie spinoff, but i absolutely adored this game as well. real thought was put into it. the patty wagon levels were absolutely awesome, an then during normal gameplay you could level up all of spongebob and patrick's attacks (i remember just cartwheeling everything with patrick). it was a tad easy, but its sheer charm and goofy storyline definetly made it worth playing.

many many many hours of fun were also spent on this gem. it was one of my favourite racing games to play in multiplayer not for the actual racing, but because the cheat mode (rimbuk lol) and the cruise gameplay mode were so much fun playing with a friend. i dont think i was the only one who wasted a couple of hours just hanging around los angeles and shoving every vehicle that passed by into the ditch with rockets, machine guns and turbos lol. single player was also a really challenging game, especialy later on in paris and tokyo. moses made it all worth it :)

Sometimes I feel like I'm one of only like 50 people on earth that played this game, but for reals, this was a superb action RPG with an awesome recruiting system that kept me entertained for daaays.

This game was actually a lot better than you would think. Battle for Bikini Bottom was another game made by the same guys and was also rather fun. To be honest Heavy Iron Studios should have broken past licensed games and made their own games. It would have given them the attention they deserved.

I spent hours on this game..I just loved the teamwork aspect of it.

Cherub mentioned MC2, but I preferred MC3...the customisation in that game is just...great. The whole "go your own way to the finish" is also good, as you didn't need to follow a strict map.

Need for Speed Carbon was great, but Most Wanted approached perfection. The way I look at the best games when I see one is a lack of anything worth removing or adding. Carbon had the Muscle / Tuner / Exotic car mix that IMO was a bit weird (lovable because NFS Carbon, but weird). It lacked pursuits as a required part of the gameplay. Most Wanted didn't have either of these things, and had all the good. Granted Most Wanted was my first racing love, but Carbon was my second and I'm biased for it too.

Shoutout to ProStreet which was average on PS2 and up to MW / Carbon standard on PS3. It was much different in terms of handling and took some getting used to, but the customization was there, the stupid joy of driving at high speed that Need for Speed translates through a screen, and the noises were 10/10.

I still play MVP Baseball 2005, which really speaks for itself. It followed my same view of the "perfect" video game, endlessly replayable and doesn't need anything added or subtracted. Granted the stats are always weird (strikeout rates are low, batting averages look more like early 1900s than 2000s) but the fun of simulating a season with your team and all of the different ways you can do it could keep me going forever. I've thought I was done inventing new rules for Owner Mode to make it harder or playing the tetris like pitching games / junkyard hitting games where you get points for hitting tractors and cars 3 times in the past year, and after a couple of weeks I've came back and binged at least half a day leading to another addiction every time. If EA could just literally remake this game, polish the stats and do something resembling a "Road to the Show" mode where you are a player coming through the minors (wasn't necessary in 05 because it wouldnt've worked yet anyway) it would beat MLB The Show hands down. Even if they didn't add that kind of thing I would still choose it and not for nostalgia reasons.

I played Tony Hawk's Underground 2 on Gamecube, so I won't say it counts because afaik Underground 1 was even better.

i'm still trying to complete yugioh duelist of the roses

I have no idea how to get all the cards from the slot machine:(

Also Twisted Metal 2 for PS1 was still one of the better games when I owned when I upgraded to PS2

Nearly all the cards, I've discovered, are available through the Reincarnation feature. There's only a select few that require the Slot Machine; Lord of D., Dark Magician Girl, Enchanted Javelin, and Sword of the Dragons Soul are just a couple that are slot machine exclusive. There's a couple more, but most can be acquired through Reincarnation.

In the beginning of June I made a stab at trying to complete the game (ran out of time before my summer class). Forfeiting 5 times, saving, and then soft-resetting was a great way of acquiring a ton of the cards.

I actually plan to write a Reincarnation guide for GameFAQs once I finish (if I ever get there).

Ace Combat 5 is the best videogame I have ever played. Fantastic (although somewhat unrealistic) story, shitloads of planes, great missions. I could feel for the characters, they were nicely defined and at the same time a bit vague. While I do prefer the missions in its predecessor, 04, slightly more (it is literally impossible to top Megalith), everything came together in 5 so amazingly well. It's such a shame more people never played the Ace Combat series.

It's even more of a shame that the people that do play Ace Combat were introduced to the series by Assault Horizon. The Unsung War puts AH to shame.

And I admit that I cried when Chopper died in that sneak attack at the stadium ceremonial flight.

Also for Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies, Megalith is the final mission of the game.
That's the soundtrack. Enough said.
