Metang @ Eviolite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Gravity
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Bullet Punch / Toxic / Stealth Rock

This set is very useful, and can help take down threats on the opponents team that are off the ground and resist Meteor Mash. An example of this is Charizard, for which you can use gravity on the switch, then EQ it for some good damage, if not a KO. Another useful factor of Gravity is the accuracy increase for Meteor Mash, so no more pesky misses in crucial situations.

The 4th move can change depending on what you personally want. Obviously Stealth Rock is very useful in supporting the team, and can help get those extra KOs on certain pokemon. Toxic helps in wearing down all the pokemon you can't do much damage to, and Bullet Punch can be very useful for picking off opponents at low HP.

A set that I would've shown has already been stated, unfortunately. But now I've got a more interesting set to show y'all.

Metang @ Eviolite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Spd
Adamant Nature
-Stealth Rock
-Meteor Mash
-Earthquake / Toxic
-Magnet Rise

What Magnet Rise does is simple: it gets rid off Metang's Ground weakness for more than enough turns to knock out most leads. With Pokemon like Golem, Armaldo, and Piloswine almost always in the lead position; Metang gets in a disadvantageous situation pretty quickly as they usually pack Earthquake. But one thing's for certain, this set can effectively beat the aforementioned Pokemon as they share one type weakness that Metang carries: Steel. Unless the SR leads stated carry enough EVs to outrun random Pokemon like Base 55s, it is almost certain that Metang will beat them 1v1. Meteor Mash is a 3HKO while Golem's and Pilo's EQ is a 2HKO. Max Attack EVs because Metang is pathetically weak without them, and Speed EVs are to outspeed standard Golem. Earthquake is to hit things that resist Steel that may want to switch in: namely Seismitoad and Samurott moderately hard. Toxic is for Alomomola and Rotom-F that comfortambly switch in otherwise. Zen Headbutt or Rock Slide are interesting options for the 3rd slot, though you lose coverage to Steel Types - who may Roar or Volt Switch out.

Metang @ Eviolite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Spd
Adamant Nature
-Stealth Rock
-Meteor Mash
-Earthquake / Toxic
-Magnet Rise

-snip-
This set looks pretty interesting, but I'll note that Golurk can do some pretty hefty damage, and usually has the speed (at base 55) to outrun Metang and lay down the hurt. It's only a 3HKO with Earthquake-Shadow Punch-Shadow Punch, but Metang can only 3HKO back, I think. Not a bad exchange, mind you, but something to keep in mind.

If this set were to become popular, I could imagine actually seeing more offensive Torkoal and Camerupt. Torkoal can easily 2HKO with Fire blast, even when totally uninvested in SpA. In return, Metang only gets a 4HKO. So Torkoal can set up rocks and then kill Metang anyway. Camerupt does the same thing, but without being able to spin as well.

But for the current common hazard leads (Golem, Piloswine, Scolipede, and Armaldo), I think that set is darn good.

Metang @ Eviolite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 240 HP/ 100 ATK / 152 SpD / 16 Spe
Careful Nature

-Iron Defense
-Meteor Mash
-Earthquake
-Rest

Actually Metang can run this set to boost his already very good Defense and invest more on ATK and SpD. Meteor Mash is his obligatory STAB and can even boosts his decent ATK. Earthquake is for coverage and Rest is for recovery (once you're at +2 is pretty hard to dent Metang even with a SE hit, so you can recover with rest fearing only STAB special SE attacks and Crits)

Just a note that when voting starts, people can vote for Frizy's set but it won't actually win, so just keep that in mind that just because it's reference to a certain thread (and likely to be popular) doesn't mean that it'll take the chance of winning of the rest of you guys. :)

First post! :)

Metang @ Eviolite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
-Psych Up
-Swagger
-Meteor Mash / Zen Headbutt
-Earthquake / Toxic

With Metang generally having very little offensive presence, it tends to attract many bulky setup sweepers that can easily set up on it and destroy. However, Psych Up gives Metang a fighting chance against these Pokémon by copying BU or CM boosts, effectively bringing both Pokémon back to neutral. This allows Metang to whittle away at them before they can do the same. Metang can also take advantage of Pokémon that don't utilize setup moves by using Swagger, as Swagger+Psych Up gives it a pseudo-Swords Dance to boost its Attack and confuse the opponent at the same time. Finally, the last moveslots are pretty self-explanatory: Meteor Mash and Zen Headbutt are STAB attacks, while the choice of EQ and Toxic is a choice of coverage vs. some nice residual damage.

Max Defense is used as Metang needs as much bulk as possible to cushion hits as it sets up, but 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Spe if you want more power. Metang generally isn't going to be sweeping due to its low Speed and other factors, but it's usually used to prevent certain Pokes from sweeping you.

Metang @ Eviolite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Spd OR 252 HP/252A/4Speed
Adamant Nature
IVs: 0 SAtk
- Hone Claws
- Bullet Punch
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake

My favorite and arguably the best set out there for Metang (no room to talk now after mini-tourney 12, but ask FLCL). My speed is there to outspeed roselia and those pokes attempting to speed creep alomomola (this thing cant do shit to it however). The alternative set gives metang more bulk. Max attack for max metang power, steel and ground for very good coverage, as zen headbutt really doesnt provide necessary SE coverage, as fighting types are handled by meteor mash and bullet punch. Bullet punch to take out weakened pokes, and jynx.

There's really not much else that there is to post, but I found this cute Metang picture so~

I'll just comment on some of the sets for now. o:

This, in my opinion, is often better than the defensive set. Since you're not going to be recovering any damage without using Rest anyways, a more offensive take is likely going to be better. The only issue I do have with this set is that it still doesn't hit notably hard. For the role of an offensive tank, I typically prefer Piloswine; however, its resistances are nice and should not be ignored.

(Okay I just read through your post and you already said all of that but w/e)

I think the best combination of moves would be Toxic/Meteor Mash/Earthquake/Stealth Rock|Bullet Punch. Bullet Punch would be if you already had a Stealth Rock setter, though I don't see a whole lot of reason to use Metang if you already have Stealth Rock elsewhere on your team. Good set though Punch.

I personally don't think that Custap Explosion is a very good option for Metang. Metang's ability to take repeated hits with general ease is one of its biggest selling points. Using Explosion takes away the ability for it to take hits later in the game. Another issue with this is Metang's less than admirable 75 base Attack. Pokemon like Golem or Gigalith are typically better suited for this role due to their high Attack.

Will edit w/ more later~

Metang @ Eviolite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Rock Slide
- Meteor Mash
- Pursuit
- Light Screen / Toxic / Stealth Rock

i don't even know what creative set you could make with metang who has such a shitty movepool but here you go. rock slide hits pokemon it normally wouldn't be able to touch such as rotom-s, mantine, or charizard and does a surprisingly large amount to all of them. pursuit gets rid of jynx, gardevoir, and haunter as long as you let something else take the sleep first. light screen allows you to always survive an attack from charizard, but you almost always live an unboosted fire blast anyways so another attack may prove to be more useful.

Metang | Clear Body | Eviolite | Adamant
Evs | 252 HP | 252 Atk | 4 Def
Meteor Mash | Hone Claws | Rest | Sleep Talk

This set is pretty cool due to Metang's amazing Steel/Psychic type, this set also doesn't fear switching in on Jynx's Lovely Kiss due to Sleep Talk. What makes this set so cool is that with Metang's amazing typing and great defenses, it realy can pull off a Sleep Talk set, where Meteor Mash hits every pokemon in the tier (meaning there is no immunities) also having a boosting chance off 20% along with Hone Claws which boosts both Atk and Acc making Metang's Meteor Mashes insanely powerfull after some boosts. Due to Metang's great defenses and typing it realy can afford to run max Atk so it can hit harder faster, it also shrugs off any kind off status with Rest and sets up on alot off pokemon in this tier. As everyone knows no set is perfect so this one is not either, but it's close due the support it needs which is mainly Rotom-S and a water type, Rotom is a great pokemon along with this Metang set as it can get rid off bulky waters mainly Alomomola, and beats Charizard while also using Trick to create free setup opportunities for Metang

Metang @ Eviolite/ Damp Rock
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 SpD
-Rain Dance
-Meteor Mash
-Earthquake
-Toxic

The purpose of this set is to set up Rain Dance for the team. Using its resistances it can switch in easily and set up Rain Dance. A good teammate could be Ludicolo with Swift Swim.

MetalBender (Metang) @ Eviolite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 60 HP / 196 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Hone Claws
- Meteor Mash
- Dynamic Punch

Simple Sub+Hone Claws set. Metang's access to Eviolite makes its job of setting up a lot easier. Meteor Mash is main STAB move that hits a lot of things and it can increase Metang's attack stat. And since Hone Claws increases both attack and accuracy, I decided to add Dynamic Punch because it hits hard and it automatically confuses the opponent. With Jolly nature, Metang outspeeds max speed Golem and non-Jolly Golurk. Substitute helps a lot with dealing with Misdreavus as it blocks 3 of its common moves and can only hit back with Shadow Ball.

I actually think your Metang set it pretty cool Dzi, and I thought about it myself.
But you should probably run Jolly>Timid. :x

With +1 accuracy, Dynamicpunch will hit 66.67% of the time though, which is less reliable than blizzard or focus blast. I like the creativity, and it has the potential to be one of the most dangerous sets if boosts are accumulated

Metang @ Life Orb
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 140 HP / 116 Spd / 252 Atk
Adamant Nature
- Agility
- Earthquake / Meteor Mash
- Ice Punch / Meteor Mash
- Zen Headbutt

A more offensive twist on Metang, to come in on resisted or weak hits or in general feign a defensive set then Agility. The given EV's allow Metang to outspeed +Spe base 100s such as Charizard after an Agility, this includes Jynx of course and smack them for a nice chunk of damage. Late game this could be used as sweeper somewhat, as it secures quite a few OHKO's with prior damage support (could be hazards).

Metang really is too defensively built to bypass popular counters, but this is probably the best it can do. Zen Headbutt for primary STAB against Primeape (which is outsped at +2 and cleanly OHKO'd) and Scolipede (even defensive variants are OHKO'd after SR half the time). Ice Punch nails Torterra, Earthquake hits -Fire types hard. Meteor Mash is your best move against Jynx and comes with a chance to boost so can be useful.

Rock Slide could be used for more reliable damage vs Mantine, Charizard & co.

With +1 accuracy, Dynamicpunch will hit 66.67% of the time though, which is less reliable than blizzard or focus blast. I like the creativity, and it has the potential to be one of the most dangerous sets if boosts are accumulated

Metang can ususally do 2-3 Hone Claw boosts and at +2, Dynamic Punch hits most of the time (idk how to do calcs on this).

The asset with Metang is that he can support the tema efiiciently laying Stealth rock and being capable of resisting most physical moves var EQ and still be a very durable platinum brick. Also he is capable of running toxic to hit bulky stuff and usually only needs one offensive move. I dont think spending evs in this low 75 attack should be worth. Those evs are better off spent in his Bulk thanks to eviolite.

Im gonna show again Dad Blast moveset because i think it is pretty cool

: Metang @ Eviolite

Metang @ Light Clay/Eviolite
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Defence, 4 Special Defence
Moves:
Stealth Rock
Meteor Mash
Reflect
Light Screen

Dual Screen Metang. Come in on something that doesn't threaten you (this is a lot easier with Eviolite), and set up the preferred screen. Stealth Rock helps Metang be a great Supporter, while Meteor Mash lets it potentially get Attack Boosts while doing some damage.
