The NHL Thread

Ottawa takes down the Pens today, ending the series 4-1.

Detroit lost to Calgary, 3-2 again. The series is tied 2-2 heading back to Hockeytown.

Dallas avoided elimination in OT with a score of 0-1. God that match was just such a stalemate. Watching that after the Wings made me realize how fast paced the Wings-Flames series is. Turco vs. Luongo pits two of the best goalies against each other so I guess it makes sense with a 1-0 OT score.

Fuck I really didn't want Ottawa to win that series. Pens didn't stand a chance... :-(

Anyways, I'm about to edit the first post again.

Good thing the refs are rooting for you, too.

It happens every series, it's the classic cry from the losing team. I'm not singling you out, I've been on the giving end of those tirades many times in my life... remember, I'm from Buffalo.

That was actually a very exciting game with tons of chances, Turco and Luongo just played amazingly. And Vancouver could've been a little more urgent offensively...

I'm just going to copy this from my AIM window:

wow 3 shutouts by Turco in 6 games that's insane

anyways first post updated, but just wondering if it would be possible for a mod/admin to update my post for me if i'm away as i was this weekend. if not, it's alright, just people will have to be patient.

Red Wings pull it off in double OT. Really awesome that Franzen scored the game winner, after he was the one that got slashed by the backup goalie in game 5.

Anyway, if the Stars win tonight, Detroit will have an easier opponent in them than San Jose. Also, if the Stars win, EVERY SINGLE round 1 prediction that I made will be correct.

Wow, the only one that I predicted wrong for round 1 was Dallas vs. Vancouver, go figure, the only one that came down to the wire. Every other series I got right. Let's see how I do this round:

East:

1. Buffalo vs. 6. New York
Another cross state matchup for the Sabres. I think that they'll take this one relatively easily. Game 6 at the most, probably only going to game 5 though.

2. New Jersey vs. 4. Ottawa
Ottawa just has too much firepower for NJ to handle. This should be a good one to watch Brodeur play in. He has to come through amazingly if NJ even wants to stand a chance.

West:

1. Detroit vs. 5. San Jose
Boy, what a series this will be. Two amazing teams with such great offense. Because of that, I think that this one will come down to defense and goaltending which gives it to Detroit.

2. Anaheim vs. 3. Vancouver
This one is really a wildcard. I'll go with Vancouver since the Sedin twins are stellar and Luongo has stayed strong in net thus far.

I am devastated. We come back from 3-1 down after 2 OT losses, win two, one in OT at that!, and then we lead 1-0 and lose it...ahhhhhhhhhhhh. Congrats Arti, you dirty Canadian >:(

The Canucks have trouble getting it together when they're not under pressure, but game 7, you better have believed they'd bring it. The Sedin twins woke up, Luongo was stellar again, and my most important first round prediction came true. Vancouver in 7!

To be honest, Anaheim is the only team in the NHL that I am scared to face. This will be the true test.

I was 6 out of 8 on my first round predictions. All my picks for the West still stand, so now I'll repick the East.

Buffalo vs. Rangers
Lundqvist has been playing stellar, but I don't care how different they are from the Rangers team Buffalo faced 4 times earlier this season. Buffalo didn't tap 1/10th of their potential in the first round, look for them to kick it up a notch and play like they can. Rangers do have momentum and confidence, so it could be a long series. Sabres in 6.

New Jersey vs. Ottawa
Brodeur stumbled a little against Pittsburgh, but don't expect it to last long. Emery has been playing well: don't expect that to last long either. Ottawa is still hurting on defense without big Chara and up front you can tell Havlat is missing. They have one great line, one decent line, and two that are quite average if not less than. NJ can roll 3 lines with consistency, Brodeur steps up. NJ in 5.

Eastern Conference Finals
Buffalo vs. New Jersey
They have all the talent and all the weapons. As long as Miller can play as well as or better than Brodeur, Sabres will take the series. Buffalo in 6.

I am actually going to root for the Rangers now.

Fuck you, Sabres.
EDIT: Ok I shouldn't say that outside of Firebot. But what I'm saying is, don't be such a sore loser :-/ I'm positive the Islanders would have lost even if they made those one or two calls or whatever.

PS: I am editing the first post with the second round now.

go sharks. faster than the wings, bigger than the wings, better than the wings. The only thing the wings have going for em is experience.

Sabres/Devils/Rangers/Penguins
Red Wings/Ducks/Stars/Sharks
So, 6 of 8 round one (but it was pretty easy to pick..I would have picked Ottawa, but I wanted to pick at least one true 'upset' :P)

In the spirit of sticking with my guns (and my hatred of the Red Wings),
Sharks/Ducks
Sabres/Rangers
