Tournament Rules:
  • General tournament rules and regulations can be found here.
  • Grand Slam rules can be found here.
  • Standard SM NU.
  • Best-of-three, single elimination.
  • Battles should take place on Pokemon Showdown!
  • SM cartridge win conditions are in place; there are no ties.
  • Tiers are locked at the beginning of each round.
Identity

About playing on alts: It is entirely allowed to play on an alt other than your own main forum name, though if your opponent wishes to confirm your identity, you must log on to your main alt to show them you are who you claim to be. This is to prevent people from pretending to be who they're not.

About playing on different servers: Tournament matches must be played on the Smogtours server. The Main PS! server is also acceptable if both parties agree to that. Other servers are not sanctioned by the TD team and playing in them might result in your game not counting. Protect yourself from that by playing in Smogtours, where we also have the power to recreate games that end due to DC's.
Scouting

On scouting opponents: Going through your opponents replays of tournament and ladder games is entirely allowed, as long as a game is public there is nothing preventing you from watching it. An exception to this is abusing powers granted to you by being staff on Smogon or PS! to gain access to information a normal user wouldn't have access to, which is strictly forbidden.

On leaking teams: Divulging private information about someone's planned team to their opponent is never allowed, and will be heavily sanctioned. Requesting that such information be divulged is also grounds for punishment. Keep your scouting to publicly available information and you'll be fine.

Timer Clause / Disconnections

On the Timer: The timer must stay on throughout the whole battle, only being turned off in the case of a player disconnecting, and in that case will only be turned off for 5 minutes (keep in mind that this is a interim solution while we wait on PS! developers). The timer may not be turned off in any other circumstance.

On Timeout losses: A player that loses by having all his time run out loses the game. This is only not the case if the player that received the timeout loss can be verified to have suffered a True Disconnection. Rematches in such cases are not allowed.

On True Disconnection: The TD team has a secret threshold of seconds that your timer must be at or above, from the moment you disconnect, for a timeout loss to be considered a True disconnection. If your game is determined to be a true disconnection if you played on Smogtours and contacted a TD before the room expired your game will be recreated up to the point the disconnect happened. It is the responsibility of the player that disconnected to get a TD into the room before it expires.

Battle Clauses:
  • Evasion Clause
  • OHKO Clause
  • Sleep Clause
  • Species Clause
  • Timed Battle
  • Team Preview

General recommendations:
  • Contact your opponent as soon as possible upon the round going up. Activity cases are going to be handled in a very strict manner.
  • When scheduling, offer as wide a swathe of time when you are available to play. 1 hour of activity on one or two weeknights is unlikely to be considered acceptable.
  • Schedule specifically - do not schedule for "Friday afternoon" or "Sunday morning", pick a date, a time and note the timezone.
  • If I catch news of ghosting or some other sort of nefarious play, I reserve the right to investigate to the full limits of my ability in conjunction with the TD team provided there is adequate evidence to warrant it.

Predictions:

Twixtry vs (Pohjis vs Gunner Rohan): Twixtry has been rapidly improving and playing a lot of nu, but Gunner Rohan has been playing the tier quite a bit, especially in NUPL. I think that if he can use his naturally longer tour experience and that together, he can beat twix, but it will be a close one.
Sabella vs Fille
: A pretty beast OU player vs a beast LC player, I think that because fille is probably used to lower tier mons more, it will give him a slight edge, still pretty cool series, and fille is my boi ;0
Kingler12345 vs Dundies
: Dundies is a beast at NU, whereas the other is an lc main and mostly a clicker, Dundies should outskill him.
Sjneider vs (zben vs roman): Roman plays a good amount of NU, whereas sjneider is mostly relying on overall skill from OU, so I’m expecting a slight edge, could go either way tho.
pilz0311 vs Cynara: Don’t know much about Cynara, but pilz went undefeated in some nu Brazilian league or smth like that, so he’ll probably outgoat the other guy
Thorister vs DoNotStealMyName
HT
vs TonyFlygon: HT has been doing very well in grand slam so far, so I’m expecting him to play very well and pull out victorious in a fairly close series.
Eternally vs HarrisIsAwesome: Harris has been on fire lately overall, and this is kinda a 50/50. Since eternally has a ton of overall natural nu instinct, as well as solid slam teams probably, I think he might outdo Harris.
Finchinator vs ggggd: Finch is pretty solid at nu, so im expecting him to be he favorite and the winner of this.
Rapture vs Dodmen
:
Dodmen is the lower tier goat, and is still very solid at nu, expecting him to pull through in the endgames more than rapture.
Roseybear vs Snou
: From what I’ve heard/seen, Roseybear is a decent player, but Snou is super on fire when he wants to win, he will put on an impressive show if this is so.
So Noisy vs Alfredo_Rivero
DEG vs FlamingVictini
: FlamingVictini has not lost at all so far in slam, and Idt DEG can stop him at this point from continuing to be inhumane at lower tiers.
(Lycans vs Le Chapelier Fou) vs esche: I don’t know too much about the other 2’s NU skill, but lycans is a beast used to the tournament stage. It will be tough for the other 2 to stand too much of a chance in my opinion.
Osh vs (Uxali vs Hassin627)
: Ost in an lc master, and since he has made it this far, his skills probably transfer to nu. He will probably play Hassin, but Osh is probably more comfortable with these type of lower tiers overall.
King Wynaut vs ILoveMilk
: ILoveMilk is my boy as well, and he has been working hard. Some kid with the name king in it is no match for the milk man himself, go slay em.
Googly vs Reje: Googly probably is going to use good cheese and win, just like in spl and olt lul.
Ren-chon vs Wabane: Ren-chon is a pretty good player who mostly mains the tier and did well in nupl if I’m not mistaken, should pull through vs the frenchie.
Count Riario vs JCM. Idk much about JCM, but count has been very active in nu, expecting him to bring solid teams and come through, go my man :)
Jarii vs jake: Idk their nu that well, but one is an lc main, and I’m pretty sure the other just plays nu a ton, so I’m going to assume that Jarii has some nice teams and manages to pull out the W.
Teddeh vs majaspic22: Majaspic is an lc french main, whereas Teddeh gets 200+ more elo than #2 on nu ladder just to flex on everyone. He has been pretty hot every year, and this will be fairly the same.
xujing691691 vs Karppi
: Fille knows karpii and he has no life, so infinite prep. Also, if someone with 6 letters wins this round, I will quit mons for 10 thousand years.
(false vs Hogg) vs taranteeeno
:
Taranteeno will probably face a tough match vs probable winner fa
lse, but I think that Tarant is capable of pulling off a potential upset, always staying positive and having great friends to help : D
Jrdn
vs frisoeva: Don’t know much about frisoeva, but Jrdn is someone im cool with, and he’s a good Canadian player, so I’ll assume that he can win : D
