Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Let's make the commemorative first post about my mascot creature- Monorb!
This is a Monorb (yes, it's a species!)
Monorb is a squirrel/chinchilla hybrid-like creature. It's got small paws that it holds in front of it's body, and legs that stretch out when it needs more height (about to 3ft at most). It's super squishy and super soft!
Monorb has a tail of fluffy, yet loose fur. It's fur can compress in on itself, making it compact and heavy, being able to be used as a mace-like weapon if needed. It's tail is half its weight, but the air that flows through its loose fur keeps it floaty and alleviates the weight for Monorb.
Monorb's body has 3 tufts of fur on its left, right, and the end of its tail, as well as 2 for its silly little haircut! They have names like humans, but its said Monorb originate from the stars!
Ok, speedrunning some extra details:
- They love fruit and nuts, especially strawberries! Just... no oranges... they don't like oranges.
- They are inspired by Kirby- wait you could guess that already? Okay... fine.
- Monorb used to be a Fakemon! It was a Normal/Psychic type that evolved twice. Now Monorb's just chillin'.
- Monorb was created (or at least the date I consider the birthdate of Monorb) is September 20th!
And that's about it! You're welcome to draw the lil goober, just make sure to credit me and all (and make sure I know so I can get excited!)
This event was and is fun! I recieved some GLORIOUS art this event and there were a ton of fire artworks drawn! I’ve just been so caught up in everything else I gotta do recently to keep the momentum late-game :(
As some of you know, I'm doing all of the banners for Draft League this year! Some of them aren't done yet... actually a lot of them as of making this post... (there's a lot...)
I'll be posting the banners in batches and leaving comments after-the-fact. Y'know, self-reflection. Yeh? Yeh. Okay.
This one was very fun! I actually wish I spent more time on this banner honestly. You can tell by the scribbled trees and the wait is that tree on the left cut off crap it is ughhhhhh oh well it's stuck like that now
Delibird and iBundle were a fun duo, wanted to give Deli a bigger spotlight and have him jumping out at you; which started the whole trend of "something's sticking out over the borders" trend. The text at first was going to be more in-your-face and radical like graffiti but Rissoux told me no :(
This was a piece I did early on when I first accepted such a large workload, back when I had no idea what Draft League really was (and... still kinda don't lol), but if this is a big deal then I'm all for it!
Once I saw Marshadow I immediately knew I wanted to draw it in it's Z-Move form. I had to give myself a lot of restraint from making it shiny though... figured too much purple would just make it blend in. Mewtwo Y was fun to draw, I hadn't really drawn it before (at least not seriously) and I kinda like how its tail flips onto it's head and those horns are so pretty... but not as cool as Marshadow WOOO GEN 7 BIAS LETS GOOOOO!
I think the only thing I would've changed had I remade this was the flooring. I wanted them to feel like they were fighting in some sort of ruins, like some sort of Distortion Zone. I had inspired this particular layout (and I know this is very specific) from a PMD Comic I once wanted to start up, and this would've been the first scene from the big reboot I had planned. Originally, I just drew my characters as a funny little "haha look at these pokemon! they're so silly and they don't take the scenarios seriously!" but when I wanted to change that direction into something more story driven, I just didn't feel inspired enough to continue. I had also posted it on Instagram, and well... I don't like Facebook/Instagram. After a while, I nuked it from history... never to be seen again.
Well... that's not true. I do have like... tidbits of the first comic I did when I DM'd my friend the comic. Maybe one day we'll see the resurgence of Dip the Ditto and Bit the Magnemite...
Gardevoir. That was a fun one finding references for.
This one was fun to draw because of the poses! At around the time of making this banner I was experimenting with mountain styles and different ways of drawing trees, as well as rivers, so this one turned out better than I had originally thought. Wanted to use that one scene from the anime when someone (I forget who) was battling Diantha's Gardevoir in a field around a forest, but I ended up not using that and just freehanding the terrain. Gotta stop drawing the same scene though... similar to the Fortemons banner.
---
And that's all of them! At least- all of the public ones as of this post. I'll be making identical posts like this when more of them come out. Anyways, see you then!
Beyond the lands of what we know,
a distant archipelago,
drifting in the sky with grace:
a world of creatures called Aeris!
logo made by a friend of mine, lumi!
World of Aeris are the magical sky islands that make up a realm for monsters to that of which you’ve never seen before. Embark on a journey exploring the vast landscapes of Aeris, from lush forests and blooming fields, to an icy abyss and a frigid wind; from rugged deserts with peaks and cliffs, to volcanic oceans with bubbles and rifts; there’s surely an adventure to be had! Collect all the creatures of Aeris, some revealed through exploration and challenges, others by challenges and combat. Can you unlock every creature?
Take on mighty foes with your friends in this third-person fighter, complete quests, and unravel the many secrets hidden in the lore! Or; socialize and meet new friends! Enjoy the scenery of Aeris! Make your own story! Kit out your creature with the dashiest new accessories! Or perhaps you want to become the very best; take on others in tier-based tournaments and events! Whatever you want to do, you’ll find that there’s a story to be fulfilled when you embark on an aerial adventure to the World of Aeris!
———
Or… so it was. World of Aeris a project I started 2 years ago (as of this post) and by various reasons, we just never got the ball rolling. Based in Roblox, we just didn’t have the scripters nor the funds we needed to realistically make it big. We had talented modellers, quality-control, beta testers, and of course, designers; but if you don’t have a scripter then everything. falls. apart. Most if not all of the fault lies solely on me, since I also wanted to start this project in my junior year of high school COUGH
So yeah. Not a success. So what now? I have all these designs and no where to show for it.
Well; here of course! Consider this the initiation post of the World of Aeris Creature Dex! I’ll be posting the designs that made up the theoretical game, as well as any designs I added since then, as if I was to make my own Fakemon game still.
As these designs are released, I’ll be posting them here, in my art server (link in signature), and with a Google Sheet so it can be collected through the Mai bot (made by Sunfished) in both my and the CAP Discord! I’ll also try to hyperlink every post in the OP so that designs aren’t completely lost to time…
Going forward with the World of Aeris Creature Dex, I should mention that I use a different system for giving "types" to designs. Now, they were called Auras in World of Aeris, but it doesn't really matter much anymore does it. Either way: these are the types I use for Fakemon design!
Some changes: Normal is now Basic Grass is now Plant Flying is now Air Fighting is now Fighter Psychic is now Magic Steel is now Metal Dragon is nowBeast Rock AND Ground are now Terra
I made a banner for the Portugese room on Pokemon Showdown! They have a prize shop where users can redeem points they stockpile, and they asked for a Spheal looking at the many selections of the prize booth Espeon’s running…
This turned out very nice! I’ve been experimenting with watercolor brushes but I really want to get back into using my usual style eventually. Anyway, cool stuff! Can you spot all the Easter Eggs?
Two posts incoming today! First up, some character design that I made recently! This would actually be the first one in the thread… so uh… cool!
ANYWAY! The other night I had told myself I wanted to design at least 3 characters in one night before I passed out. I only got done “2” (technically it’s two sketches and one colored so if sketches = half done, then I only did 2 lol). Oops. But on the bright side, I made a character I really like. Meet Verdant!
She can cut stone with her razors (she’s just THAT good…)! Been really wanting to experiment with hair styles because right now (and she too is a victim of this) the extent of the hair I can draw is spiky hair, long hair, and or fluffy hair. That’s it. I needa try new hair styles.
But yea! Cool beans! More creatures coming super soon; just gotta give them descriptions!
Edit: I forgot… I’LL POST THEM TONIGHT I SWEAR; I’LL EVEN POST TWO LINES! YEH!
Hi! I know I've been a bit... uh... not active here. I've been busy with a new job! Doing something full-time and getting the big bucks but that comes in sacrifice to the time I once had throughout the day :(
But art doesn't wait, so without further ado, here's the second edition of Draft Banner Self-Reflections.
This one took an abnormally long time; I had just struggled to figure out what I wanted to do for the rocks and the background in the back. I wanted a crystal cave much like Chargestone Cave in the Unova region, and it ended up being a nice contrast of cool blues with the pink characters in the middle taking spotlight. I think I made M-Diancie's brush size too big by accident; and I had no idea what I was doing with the shading on the Carbink, but at the point of posting it, I felt like the banner was past due and I needed to update the Draft gang with something.
If there's one thing I learned, however, is that while I love Tinkaton's design to death (no Steel-type bias what-so-ever), I'll be screwed if I draw that hammer again. Man was it annoying... At the same time, however, I'm glad I learned from this banner. This one was a bit of a transitional piece where I wanted to try a slightly different approach to backgrounds than what I did in the past. Instead of drawing every line on everything in the back to give it shape, I'm now trying a more watercolor/painted look to non-focal aspects of the drawings; and I can say I think it looks good. Much easier and cleaner to look at as you'll see later on, but comments regarding that are encouraged if you agree or otherwise.
It was also about this time when I realized the gradient I had on the color lines running diagonal disappeared after the NatDex Ubers banner; so that was fun. Sticking with how it is now though! Still a great banner regardless; may revisit the Winter Seasonal banner and revamp it.
I gotta be honest; coming into this one, I was least excited to do this. As much as I wanted to stick with the two Pokemon as icons on the Calendar page; I just did not want to draw Urshifu again. Me no like big details. Me like the simple-ish designs. The other thing was that I just didn't feel like picking a spot in the Wild Area like I had originally planned; where there'd be a race against M-Lopunny and whatever the other Pokemon is, and the former would taunt them as they ran off, but I wanted to draw that scene near a lake by the walls going up into Hammerlocke. Issue: Me no like big details. Me like the simple-ish designs. So what did I do? Draw Lopunny and Deoxys-Speed, and then leave this piece to rot for a handful of weeks (I forgot how long I waited.) I think eventually someone pinged me on Discord and asked for the progress on it and I just went "Ah nuts, I gotta finish that don't I?"
Messed with some new brushes in this one, an almost hairy like grass brush which I'm contemplating on bringing back or not as I just don't really like how the bristles spread, and I'm just now realizing as I'm making this post that the Pokemon don't have shadows oh great its ruined for me now fdlkjngfjlkngfsdg
I like how I did the water! I revisited the way I draw coast sides on later banners, so this one definitely helped; but two big things I critique myself on is rushing this banner in my mind and only putting in half the effort on a lot of the banner here.
Speaking of coastlines, USUM! This banner unintentionally has a soft spot since my first game was Ultra Sun, and I wanted to show some appreciation for some certified Alolan gangstas (ft. Wingull)
Celesteela is very... very big in this one. I originally wanted a Tapu Koko running from the left of the screen towards the rocket, but for the same reasons as Urshifu, I voted against that. Instead, I added a variety of Pokemon, as will now be a running theme rather than just having the two Pokemon if I can help it. I think I have one more banner where I just want the two icon Pokemon on the banner by themselves, but after that, whatever Pokemon I'd like to slap onto there, I'm going to try and add.
I really like how this one turned out! I like all the experimentation I did, but I wish I had the patience to mess with the colors/lighting so that the Pokemon in the front looks like the sun was shining against their backs, and that the whole piece had an orange tint as if it really was a cool sunset piece as I tried to do in the beginning. You can tell I tried that with Celesteela, but I just gave up after not wanting to draw Koko and just drew the other Pokemon normally.
also don't ask about the soyjak raticate; its funny i swear
---
And that's all of them (again)! I admittedly have 2 done right now, but one isn't technically public yet, and the other was made in advance despite it not going "live" for a few months. When I make the next banner, I'll put that one and those 2 aforementioned banners in another self-reflect post. Anyway; I'll try to post something else until then. Maybe some character design, maybe finally reveal more Aeris mons. 'til then!
So Artfight has forcedencouraged me to make character sheets for my original characters! I haven't shown off these characters fully yet (Skye, when I posted her earlier, wasn't a part of this squad yet), so now, you'll get to see my main OCs in a character reference sheet!
So, meet Sketch, Hanna, Phoenix, and be reintroduced to Skye!
SKETCH
Sketch is a guy with strong morals and an indominable human spirit! He's the passionate leader of his lively group of friends, and lets nothing evil stand in the way of truth and justice. He gives three strikes to the people around him; and lets his emotions and anger for corrupt people and situations get the better of him when the time is right; before you can stop him, he's already on his way to beat the living crap out of the person who gave his friends an issue, no matter how recent they became acquainted.
Despite his anger, Sketch is kind and thoughtful. He helps people in need, always tries to keep things in a “smiling mood”, and loves to joke around with his friends.
Sketch wears the robe of his late father; he rarely takes it off and is almost always wearing it. His motive in life is to find the persons who robbed him of his father when he was younger, and deliver a fist full of violent emotion at their face, as they deserve.
He's the main character of an RPG I want to make sometime!
HANNA
Hanna is very intelligent and tactful. She is mysterious and strategic, only acting after careful thought. A level head, she acts both as Sketch's level head and best friend. She upholds an earned-respect basis for the people she involved herself around, and can't stand when someone takes a serious situation lightly or jokingly. She obsesses over sweets and hairstyles, and has a soft spot for cats. She refuses to talk about her past, perhaps to keep a secret she doesn't want to share. She's the first member of Sketch's team, both invaluable and incredibly strong.
She has a superpower that lets her transform her bracelet, as well as most other items, into swords. She's a naturally skilled swordfighter, though thanks to her ability, she doesn't need to be skillful with swordfighting, as the talent and expertise required for properly wielding the sword comes with the superpower. PHOENIX
Phoenix is loud, rowdy, and proudly a pyrokinetic (though it's more like a pyromaniac). He's a boy with strong fire powers, forced onto him at an incredibly young age. He has a troubled past with his father, separated from his mother and sister, and forced into a royal life of anarchy under a cruel dictator who utilized his raw strength for evil. However, when he finally realized the wrong he was doing, he ran and hid from them. He joins Sketch's team as the 2nd member, albeit non-voluntarily as he insists on joining Sketch after losing a bout with him.
Phoenix, as previously stated, has fire superpowers. I don't think I need to explain this much more fire go brrrrr
SKYE
Skye is a blue jay who, miraculously, can transform into a human through yet unknown means, freely being able to switch to and from a bird-form and human-form. She's timid and quiet, yet energetic, vibrant, and cheery once she's opened up to new people. She comes from a realm of beastkin whom are naturally half-animal half-human, where she grew up and lived until she met Sketch and was curious about him. She's the last member of Sketch's team, albeit after a long while of unofficially following them from a bird's eye view. Get it? Cus' she's a bird? Okay.
When she transforms into a human, she gains boots and a thick fluffy coat that won't come off. Despite its denseness, she insists that she doesn't get warm wearing it. The coat and her "wings" are attached, and she can't fly while she's human.
--- yes these are ripped straight from artfight give me a break
And that's the crew! Again I want to make an RPG game with them eventually; I have this massive story full of lore in my head that I've only ever shared with my best friend. I just wanna make something!!! GRAHHHH!!!! SCREW YOU PROCRASTINATION AND ADULTING!!!
I've been ultra protective of these characters up until about a year ago when I opened my art server, but now these 4 and Monorb can be attacked in ArtFight! This year, feel free to beat the living crap out of Phoenix (that jerk needs it) if you would like! I'm on Team Seafoam! I'll also be posting the art that I both send out and showcasing the art I receive in my art server, so feel free to join that if you haven't already!
and sorry for not posting as often work is just grueling man
It was an incredible month and I both delivered on and received some AWESOME art! I'm a little late to making a post... but now I'm finally making it!!! I'll be sharing the art I drew for others, and if they revenged me (or attacked me first), I'll spoiler mark what they had sent back.
Alright! Let's begin... because there's a lot to go through...
Oh! And don't miss the announcement at the end of this post too! (Immediately scrolling to the bottom to read just the announcement is for NERDS are you a NERD? Didn't think so. Muahaha....)
I did this one the day of uploading my character references; and it is probably my least favorite out of the bunch. It was just... so rushed.... IDK man... BUT! Good news is...
Much more proud of this one as compared to the last one. I just really like the interaction of Monorb being a little rascal- as you'd see in a few more posts coming up. This one was actually a revenge itself!
This was an attack on one of the good friends in the Monorb & Friends server! (which you should definitely join if you haven't already; it's where I post art frequently cough cough wink wink) Their character is definitely both edgy and silly, so what better than to have them shred on their axe guitar!
My best friend referred this artist to me! Looking back, I'm a little disappointed with how this came out; I felt like I didn't put as much effort as I thought into it, so I'll definitely be attacking this guy again next year if they're still around.
Y'all might be familiar with this user... hi SapphireStarz11!!!
They had a very dazzling character... and I just so happened to have two characters who are easily dazzled! Really like the colors I did for the outfit; surprisingly not that hard. I'd imagine it'd be a pain in the butt to animate though...
You might be familiar with this user too!!! hola Kiwi !!!
I really like the silly little drawing I had Challis draw... and the background is surprisingly cozy. I got kinda lazy with the bricks but... it looks really good regardless... so complain all you want it looks GOOD!!!!!
Also... Fork may have snuck into this one before he was added as a character... more on him later!
This was both a revenge itself and I got revenged back (kinda. he forgot to mark it as one... silly kiwi....!)
I found this, and many other characters, randomly! I tried to come up with a better attack name, as I tried to give cheesy titles to all the attacks I did this year... this definitely being one of the "worse" ones... haha...
This was a fun character to draw! The hair was a bit of work to get how I wanted it to, but I learned a cool trick with this one (in regards to shading hair)!
Am I hearing another familiar face? Get used to it, because they'll be back later too! Aloha Leavannite!
I like the dynamic between these two characters! They're silly guys! Also, the style is very different here! Why? Because I thought it'd look cool, plus I wanted to reuse the brush I used for Scribbles. Yeh!!!
Ok no but seriously I like what I did with the background here! It's sort of what I did for my profile picture for Artfight, and it turned out great here too!
This was one of the first characters I found for Artfight! So then... why is this character so much later in? Well... I didn't know what to do for his attack. I had ideas; especially one where Monorb steals the tag on his face, but I feel like that'd be disrespectful to the designer (if that makes sense.) Went with this instead, and I'm glad I did; it's one of my favorites.
One of my favorites; both a fun and a challenging character to draw! I really liked the outfit, so I wanted to make sure I got all of it in the picture. Tried out some lighting and coloring; I think it looks good but I definitely needed to do something else for the fire in my opinion; so we learn!
One of two mass attacks I did this year, which also almost marks the halfway point for this month's Artfight round. After the events of Smogfight, Monorb has been keeping in touch with the Pokémon it met! While it couldn't be allowed as an official Pokémon, there's no rules that it can't cook for them! Word spread, and our wacky PMD friends made their way to Chef Monorb's culinary abode! Some come from far away, some more local than you think, and some are just passing by on an adventure of their own... I wonder where Dip ran off to though? Odd.
Said friend earlier had drawn Monorb, so I marked this as a revenge for them!
muahaha TECHNICALLY this counts as a scene........
Remember how I said I learned a little bit for shading hair? This is one of those moments; where I used it on both hair and feathers! I think this turned out great! Too bad Skye can't fly when she's human, otherwise I would've drawn her that way instead of her silly bird form.
Yet another mischevious Monorb masterpiece... Morb's been eating at his garden a little too much and Clover's finally had enough!
I like how I drew the tomato plant in the back, but you'd be wrong if you thought I'd draw another one on the other side. Yeah I gave up. So what? (just kidding)
Just a small mushroom fella taking a nap! I think I definitely needed to change how I do backgrounds... these trees look awful in my opinion... but everything else I am quite fond of! I especially like how if you zoom in far enough, you can see part of the island along the coast.
I had found this person from... wouldn't you know; Kiwi! They had received an attack from this person, so I took it personally. No one attacks MY team and gets away with it! Totally not for my own self gain to see if I couldn't get something back no nuh uh didn't happen.
Just like everything else I've pumped out (minus the first attack, again more on that later), I wanted to make sure I was satisfied with the attacks I made. The colors, the lighting, the scene, the characters I chose... I knew I had done a great job with this one when one day, I got a notification doing my daily check-in on Artfight to see if I got any new attacks...
...and, sure enough...
...
10/10 would attack again i squealed like a little girl that day.
---
OK, Home stretch.
And for this next one, I mean stretching literally.
I really wanted to draw different outfits for the characters I made, so I thought Hanna interacting with Margot would be great since they could go jogging together. I will definitely be reusing the outfit I made Hanna sometime.
AH YES, BEHOLD FINGIE THE FINGER IN HIS GLORY, CREATED BY NONE OTHER THAN THE PAPAYA MAN!
Fork is a little goober I designed back when I was in a call with a bunch of people playing a roleplay game; he's a silly little guy who only really says "FORK"; perfect for the comedic aura that Fingie exudes.
Anyway, Fork couldn’t get his photo taken with Fingie ‘til he got a delicious bowl of Mac n’ Cheese!
Made for a good friend of Penn and I's, their character was originally planned for something else, much like Rakki's (Attack 10), but I really wanted to get this one out before time was up. By this point, there was a few days left in the month, and I promised I'd attack them. I like how this turned out, however! I think the shining and the shading works really well here, and I even tried adding a small gradient to the night sky!
(I promised a bunch of people attacks and forgot... ruh roh... NEXT YEAR I SWEAR)
Remember how I said I didn't care much for Attack 1? Here's the compensation I promised! Everything I didn't like about the original, I fixed here! I feel like I did them justice...
And finally, the attack on my best friend, which I had planned to be the grand finale post on, Coldcolor!
He has some real goofball characters, and I just HAD to put the pun in the title. He's a big Pizza Tower fan too, so this was a given. Probably should've spent more time on the background, but time was running out and so was my patience.
He is working hard for a game he wants to make, so if you want to see what he's been up to... maybe you should go check out his socials... I'm just sayin.
Hah. That's it. That's all of them. I hope you enjoyed seeing the stuff I posted this July for Artfight, and if you competed this year, I hope to see you next year, and if you didn't and you want to... maybe let me know, I might go attack you...
AND THAT'S IT, SO HOW GOOD WAS IMAKENOSENSE ACTUAL- wait... I'm not done yet. I have one more announcement. (false swipe gaming fans anyone?)
I AM NOW OFFICIALLY TAKING COMMISSIONS!
As of today, you can now hire me on for an art piece that you want. Need a logo? I gotchu. Need a banner? I GOTCHU. Want a silly picture of a Monorb that vaguely resembles you or your own characters? I. GOT. CHU.
I take payment through PayPal; and if you want to commission me, please read this carefully as I am very strict on what I will NOT draw.
It's been asked, so I delivered (finally.) Have at it, because I will only take a few at a time! I hope you consider commissioning me sometime!
Alright that's it! Time to slumber for another 3000 years.
