darkie created a topic for this in Internet Renaissance but it was ages ago and nobody knew it was a good movie back then. So yeah, I saw it a few weeks ago and it's time to get some discussion going.

The movie was actually very, very good. I really had low expectations after seeing the trailer a while back, but the positive press made me want to check it out. Well filmed, well written, and well acted piece. As someone who's pretty interested in social media / tech startups, the subject matter was intriguing to me as well. Actually, what it made me want to do afterwards was look up bits on which parts were true and which were exaggerated for the movie. Does anyone have some links to help me out?

I really really didn't like the movie. I went to the movie theaters thinking I was going to like it and I got let down.

I really liked it. It's just interesting to see how a gargantuan internet company starts out. The actors played their roles well and the soundtrack wasn't bad either. Although the love interest part of the story just gave the "this was added in" vibe to me.

His ex was used to convey his personality to the audience in a really strong way right from the start. I thought it was a really effective way of doing it too. She seemed to be used to keep Zuckerburg feeling human in the other parts of the movie where she was involved.

fucking loved this movie, i laughed, almost cried, didnt get bored at all, man its an awesome movie

personally i loved the acting, eisenberg did such an incredible job in his zuckerberg role, so did garfield, hell when they were hacking for pictures my girlfriend said "damn thats sexy" what the fuck how can PC hacking be sexy aaaaaaaaaaaaaa

one of my favorite movies, not of the year, but of all time

I remember when this movie came out, because my friends and family were all "Hey, I bet you want to see the Social Network right?". I really don't. I only have facebook because some of my girlfriends have had facebook. I have reason to check it maybe once a month.

Unless not using Facebook is related to how much you can enjoy a movie, I'd recommend seeing it.

I simply don't care about facebook. There are good football movies but I don't like football so they aren't gonna be as enjoyable to me.

believe me, that has nothing to do with whether youll enjoy the movie or not

i also dont give a fuck about facebook (well just a bit) and think it was excellent

Well in this case I'm really interested in the subject, but to use your other example, I have absolutely no interest in football but am still going to watch the Friday Night Lights TV series sometime because it's supposed to be really good. I find I enjoy a lot of sports movies / books / shows even though I'm not interested in many of the actual sports...

i don't understand how you think facebook and football are even remotely comparable. one is a sport and arguably a lifestyle for many, the other is nothing more than a medium through which to communicate with your friends. nobody cares about facebook in the same way that they care about things like football. do you think all the rave reviews for this film are by facebook enthusiasts? topic can inform but does not dictate the content of a film (nor of anything, really). what do you think this movie involves, exactly? 2 hours of dudes browsing facebook?

sorry to rant but your comment is incredibly weird and ill-conceived. it's like saying "i simply don't care about leather boots, so i have no interest in listening to bob dylan's 'boots of spanish leather'"

anyway i've not seen this but i really would like to. justin timberlake is strangely difficult to hate as an actor, which is surprising given how easy he is to hate as a personality/musician.

i saw this last weekend and i enjoyed it. definitely not a masterpiece but a good and interesting movie

the lead actor was hilarious in parts of it, i think the humour is the thing i liked the most about the film

Extremely shallow, considering it isn't a movie about "Facebook". Hate Facebook all you want, but this was an amazing movie.

It's a movie about how facebook was made, based on a book about how facebook was made. It's not exactly a documentary, but what am I watching this for? Drama stemming from Zuckerberg's "difficult" personality (in the book he was just plain evil)? Everyone who's ever encouraged me to see this movie did it because "I read in some article that he's totally autistic" which I can't seem to confirm at all, but it's a big warning sign. If that's what I'm suppose to see this movie for, then fuck that.

We're saying you shouldn't not watch it for such stupid reasons. I'm telling people to watch it because it's an interesting story about people's need for social connection and the interaction between two friends caught in a business - despite the terrible trailer and premise. It's supported by brilliant writing, acting, and cinematography. You don't need to be autistic to watch the goddamn movie.

There's a reason it's the highest rated movie of 2010.

Von just trust us and go see it.

It's awesome.

Besides, it can't hurt to just watch it, whereas if you don't not only will you be missing out on an opportunity but when people refer to it you won't know what they are talking about. I really don't see any reason not to see it.

Also I hate Facebook, though I was essentially forced to get one by society since everyone uses it now.

i earnestly neither understand how your brain operates nor have any interest in figuring it out. this is not a compliment.

Join the club.

A movie came out that doesn't interest me. I know me that makes simultaneously stupid and shallow according to your remarks, but here's a newsflash; 90% of movies don't interest me. Especially dramas and comedy (some people said it was funny, but I'm guessing that's not the point).

I only remarked that I remember when it came out because people kept asking me if I was going to see it FOR a stupid reason. I never said it was a bad movie or that I hate facebook. I just don't care. I haven't bought or rented a movie in years. If I didn't see it theaters, I'm not gonna see it unless a friend brings over the DVD.

A movie came out that doesnt interest me, so I decided to go to the thread dedicated to that movie and post..
Four times..

Have a nice day.

No, but a forum does interest me. So does telling neutral anecdotes. Sorry for being neither positive or negative, I'll be more passionate in the next topic.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, despite my feeling like I am the only person on the earth yet to have a facebook account. I sided with Zuckerberg most of the time, contrary to what the film seemed to want me to do.

I just finished watching this and was thoroughly impressed. The acting was spot on; it perfectly conveyed the emotions of the film. I was particularly impressed with Eisenberg. His portrayal of Zuckerberg was very convincing and completely harmonized with the final line of the film, "You're not an asshole, Mark. You're just trying so hard to be".

In my opinion, The Social Network completely deserved its victory as Best Motion Picture at the Golden Globe Awards.

Interesting. I had sympathy for Zuckerberg but much more for Saverin. I wanted the Winklevon (or whatever) twins to crash and burn. Unfortunately they did end up with a large settlement and are now asking for even more.

Armie Hammer's portayal of the Winklevoss twins was excellent as well. He has a knack for playing assholes. He played a similar role on the CW's Reaper.
