The SSBM General Discussion Thread

Who does Zgetto play? I know I've heard he's one of the best European players but I forgot who he plays for some reason. And did I just hear that he's getting fucked up by Mew2King or was that someone else?

Anyone else watching Pound 4? http://www.ustream.tv/channel/tko727 Not sure how far they are in singles right now...

edit: oh, i guess this is better or something http://www.pound2.vgbootcamp.com/
I am. I got to be there for So.Cal.

That was an epic set. I wanted M2K to win though =/
Been a while since I seen his Fox in action, and it was probably better than ever.

So.Cal wins yet another tournament =P

I am jealous as fuck of you right now >_>

And it was good to hear that M2K apparently did well against Hungrybox despite losing. Maybe he'll finally be able to stop puff by whatever the next big tournament is, or maybe he'll get all discouraged and weird like he seems to enjoy doing. :( He's probably my favorite smasher, active or otherwise, so I wanna see him win dammit!

I'm not sure if you've ever met him IRL, but M2K is really damn emo. He only loses to the best of the best, but whenever he does lose, he seems to get pretty discouraged. Then again i've only seen him at one tournament (scsa IV i think it was) but yeah...
I want to see M2K win also. He's soo fucking good but he hasn't won a major Melee tournament in years, probably since mango started his reign of terror.

The Braket

And yes, someone managed to record and Upload M2k Vs armada 1 and 3, but not 2.
Match 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTu5iIJt3SM&feature=channel
Match 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67cckEZC1ZM

He also has other videos up. Quality is not too great since he just recorded the stream, but it's good enough.
this is awesome thanks. I'm really surprised that after all this time with the spacies on top, we have a tournament where the top four consist of Sheik, Peach, and two Jiggs.

I thought is was so funny how many people quit watching the live stream after it was officially mango v. hbox for winner's finals (jiggs dittos = WANT TO KILL MYSELF). I personally think the problem with space animals is that they are so friggin hard to use at their highest level that people use the safer yet still effective other top tier characters.

Most Tournaments won are not space animals. It was always Kens/Azens Marth untill M2k who also used Marth and to a lesser extent Fox/Shiek. Mang0 started using falco after a while but he always mained Jiggs. Pretty much no major tournaments have been won by space animals. I think chillen won an MLG event with fox, i'm not sure though.

I disagree. Jiggs is now just as good or better than the space animals. And it takes much more skill to use jigs at a pro level than it does to use spacies. Just look at how many pro/semi-pro space animals there are compared to jiggs/peach. Space animals are probably easier to use since they do not have to worry as much about spacing since they have automatic combos. If a falco gets gimped or he SD's he can just combo most characters to high % or even get the KO before his other stock is taken.
With jigs, the combos on most characters are not as automatic (except on the space animals, who get raped by jigs). And due to her light weight, she has to be really good at spacing, since if she misses something, she runs a really high risk of getting KO'd.

Coming from someone who is absolutely no good at the game, I don't really buy the whole "Jigglypuff is the best" thing. When Mew2king kicked everyone's ass, "Marth was the best." A lot of people would have put Falco right up there with him when PC Chris was at his peak, and then later on it was people scoffing about "how easy it is to gimp him." Now of course you have DSW, Zhu and Mango making people scared as hell of Falco again. I haven't seen as many "Falco is the best character"s as I have for Jigglypuff, but they're definitely out there.

Fox was considered top tier for a while even though Marths were winning tournaments. Basicly, as the game evolves, and other less-used charachters develop a better metagame, the tiers will always change, we have a perfect example of this in Pokemon. Although in a game like Smash, tiers don't have such and impact. Take Axe, he RAPES with pikachu, who is a bottom tier character. and Chu-Dat/Wobbles who taught everyone how to use Ice climbers. People like them take a charachter that everyone thinks is bad, and do extreamly well with them. Those types of players are good with pretty much any character though. Mang0/m2k could probably pick anyone on the roster and still beat pretty much everyone excluding those better than average players like armada/zhu/lucky/amsah et cetera et cetera. The best of the time are the people who have the best spacing, not the ones who use the best character.
I'm pretty mediocre myslef, I placed 17th in the most recent tournament i went to.

Mew2King has said some stuff about wanting Jigglypuff banned (he's saying that's not true anymore, but that "if Metaknight were banned 'it would only be fair' for her to be banned too"), and apparently Armada thinks that the character should be banned as well. Mango also recently posted saying that he wouldn't mind Jigglypuff being banned.

I will actually laugh if that happens. Seriously, it would be the biggest load of shit I have pretty much ever seen a competitive community try to pull. I feel really bad for Hungrybox though, whether or not this ban gets taken seriously for some reason.

Wait, SERIOUSLY? M2K wanted Jiggs banned?

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Worst sport I have ever seen.

BTW, anyone else seen the Angry M2K Metaknight texture in Brawl? HILARIOUS.

Jigglypuff is more of a one-dimensional character with glaring weaknesses than MK. I'd tell M2K to pocket main Marth for JP lol

Jigglypuff is a far cry from Brawl. There isn't anyone in Brawl who fucks your shit up nearly as hardcore as Jigglypuff does when you make a mistake. Jigglypuff reminds me more of like, ST Dhalsim, than anyone in Brawl. Not that I'm an expert on either game, but the point is that I would consider Jigglypuff more of a "traditional" spacing-oriented, low-execution character. Plus ST Dhalsim has the noogie which I guess is sort of "Rest-like" in a way.

If anything, it's good that there's a character in such a technical game that is both light enough on execution to open up the game to more players, and strong enough to win tournaments. Considering that Jigglypuff really isn't even that good compared to other "low-execution/spacing oriented" characters, like SF4 Ryu, 3s Chun, and Old Sagat, if anything, I look at Jigglypuff as a largely positive force.
