How does it feel to be a smogon boomer now? The sidelines are weird imo tbqh
dear oglemi (fun fact i used to pronounce this “oh-glee-me” before i found it’s literally just your fucking name),
i’m still not used to it, especially since i have like one foot and two fingers back in the door, it’s crazy that we’re basically in what can be considered at least IMO the 3rd generation, teetering on the precipice of the 4th generation (if you consider roughly 5 years per “generation” of users that speak a certain way, understand a lexicon of inner circle + broad stroke references to Smogon lore, etc.) of Smogon
as someone who entered in the middle of one generation in 2013/2014 and helped develop the end of + the beginning and full cycle of another generation between 2015-2018, it’s wild to see how things have changed—in a LOT of ways for the better, in some ways that were just completely unpredictable, and in other ways very baffling
am totally down to gallivant around and talk oldfag with you/maybe other #skiddo folks sometime
i cannot believe we are the same age
also i went back and looked at a bunch of the analyses i wrote back in the day and you gp checked, like, most of them. where did that motivation come from?? or were you gping me to avoid the awful writers and still be productive?? what a time
dear berks,
i can’t believe it either lmfaoo like back when we were both contributing, no shade to you but i felt like a bit of a mentor to the likes of you, fleur (even tho spiritually she was my grammar mentor…), bolts, winry, the whole LC/GP crew but really we were more contemporaries than anything
the things a few leadership roles will do to your mind when you’re young as fuck, huh? hope you’re doing well
also these days, i would never GP nearly as many as i used to because staring at my screen and copyediting drives me insane after like 3 checks per day max, but having no life beyond high school back then helped a lot lol

what community was your favorite to unformally recieve education from bab(b)ysitting, and why isn't it the one i'm calling you out from
dear heartstrings,
this is a GREAT question
i’m thinking so hard my brain is smoking
ultimately i learned a lot about organizing teams and collaborative infrastructure from my time in leading social media (particularly Smogon’s Twitter and Facebook) that i take into my real world settings now…
… but from literally leading Showdown as an admin for like a year(?) i gleaned everything i need to know about what i don’t like: heavily saturated bureaucracy, working on a program predominately occupied by children, red tape… PS has gotten a lot better, from what people have told me, but it had to be bad, really bad, and even worse for it to get better and i happened to have been part of a downward swing of the pendulum
and that’s ok …
really it is
