Not that I agree with AM though, OCN is still a strong team and Titanic already took LN as its captain.

It's June 4th, and as promised, here's the update on teams, captains, and all of that other fun stuff!
Once again, this year the World Cup of Pokemon will have 16 teams, 15 of which are returning from last year. Below is a list of the 15 teams and the 2 teams fighting for the last spot, as well as their captains and IRC channels:

As you can see, Team Europe has been removed, opening up a spot for a new team. The reason behind this was that Europe was already hugely represented among WCoP teams (especially with the addition of Benelux), so it ran the risk of simply becoming a superteam.
We decided to have to have a play-in between two teams, Italy and Middle East + Africa for the last spot, similarly to last year. There were a lot of issues with this process with so many new teams popping out of nowhere. These two teams were chosen because their regions were not represented by other WCoP teams, unlike the Hispanic America / Argentina / whatever team that was proposed (also the captain was impossible to deal with but that's a different story!), and they formed and proposed their teams early on. We apologize to any other teams that may be disappointed with this decision. Iconic and I were sort of thrust into this position at the last minute without any idea that so many new teams would be vying for spots, so we had no time to come up with new team qualification rules without completely screwing up preexisting teams and significantly delaying the tournament. You can be assured that team qualification is an issue that will be revisited prior to the next World Cup, with new teams wishing to qualify given the chance to put together a squad and fight for a spot. As mentioned before, players who do not qualify for any team are free to try out for whatever team they feel most closely associated with.
The play-in will consist of a 5-on-5 showdown between Italy and Middle East + Africa. Haunter and Sweep, please PM us your players as soon as possible so we can get the match-ups going! You guys have 24 hours to send me the player that will be representing your team in this play-in. As soon as we get the players, we will have match-ups posted, and you guys will have 5 days to complete the battles.
With teams and captains announced, we encourage everyone that wants to play to contact the team captain of the team they qualify for in order to get a tryout. Captains will not be searching for you. If you want to have a chance to get on a team, it's your responsibility to seek the captain out as soon as possible and get a tryout to show what you're made of. Speaking of Captains, we know you have all been working extremely hard to form the best roster possible, and we want you all to keep doing that. Just be sure to send me your final roster list via PM before Monday June 11th at 11:59 EST.
To captains: remember, if you want a new flag, please be sure to contact the artist of your choosing to make your team a new flag. If you are happy with your current flag, then you are free to leave it as-is.
Just so everyone knows, people are still allowed to sign-up after this post. If there any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Have fun.
