Project Threats to OU Cores v2: Round 72: Mega Charizard X + Ash-Greninja

Hydreigon @ Dragonium Z/Grondium Z
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 244 SpA / 32 SpD / 232 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor/Dragon Pulse
- Dark Pulse
- Earth Power
- Roost

32 Sp Def. EVs allows Hydreigon to live 2 Hydro Pumps after rocks and OHKO with Draco Meteor or Z-Move. Hydreigon can also switch in on EQ and Fire Blast from Garchomp and threaten it back. It must be regarded that Garchomp must megaevolve in order to be outspeed by it.

Choice Scarf Greninja

Greninja (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Protean
EVs: 200 Atk / 88 SpA / 220 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Ice Beam
- U-turn
- Rock Slide
- Spikes

(EVs secure an OHKO on 4 HP Zam and 4 SpD Kart, while outpacing Adamant Excadrill in sand, ty catnumbers)

Greninja can’t switch on anything aside from predicted Rocks / Spikes from these two, but once its in, it just clicks U-turn for AshGren or Ice Beam for MegaChomp. While U-turn doesn’t OHKO AshGren, it does do enough that the potential priority in the back will ensure the kill. Or you could just use U-turn twice.

Reserving tapu fini

Tapu Fini @ Leftovers
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 180 Def / 16 SpD / 64 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Surf
- Nature's Madness
- Defog

0 SpA Tapu Fini Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Greninja-Ash: 260-308 (91.2 - 108%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
0 SpA Tapu Fini Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Greninja-Ash: 260-308 (91.2 - 108%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja-Ash Hydro Pump vs. 248 HP / 16+ SpD Tapu Fini: 108-128 (31.4 - 37.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery 252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja-Ash Dark Pulse vs. 248 HP / 16+ SpD Tapu Fini: 79-93 (23 - 27.1%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja-Ash Water Shuriken (20 BP) (3 hits) vs. 248 HP / 16+ SpD Tapu Fini: 60-72 (17.4 - 20.9%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery

4 Atk Garchomp-Mega Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 180 Def Tapu Fini: 130-154 (37.9 - 44.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Garchomp-Mega Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 16+ SpD Tapu Fini: 45-53 (13.1 - 15.4%) -- possibly the worst move ever
0 SpA Tapu Fini Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp-Mega: 204-242 (57.1 - 67.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Since Garchomp is mixed-specially based, Tapu can check it, and can even switch on it if not on earthquake.
Moreover Tapu fini handle pretty well ash-greninja, granted it needs to take a kill first in order to threaten of a 4hko, while fini can ohko after rocks.
One other Important thing to mention is that, while the two composents of this core are hazard setters, tapu fini can defog those hazards away.
To conclude, if not on the long run, fini is able to deny this core benefits on the short run.

Venusaur-Mega @ Venusaurite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 248 HP / 88 Def / 156 SpD / 16 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Synthesis
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fire]

M-Venusaur can eat up hits from both the mixed-specially based Garchomp and Ash-Gren and can reliably recover off on them with Synthesis and/or Giga Drain. Chomp and Gren have no recovery so M-Venu can easily outlive their attacks and neither members of the core have a super-effective move on their sets vs Thick Fat M-Venu. Players could run Leech Seed over HP Fire for even more recovery, even though it's not really needed.
252 SpA Garchomp-Mega Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 156+ SpD Venusaur-Mega: 136-162 (37.4 - 44.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
4 Atk Garchomp-Mega Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 88 Def Venusaur-Mega: 135-159 (37.1 - 43.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Garchomp-Mega Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 156+ SpD Thick Fat Venusaur-Mega: 78-94 (21.4 - 25.8%) -- 2% chance to 4HKO

0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Garchomp-Mega: 111-132 (31 - 36.9%) -- 73% chance to 3HKO
0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Garchomp-Mega: 111-132 (31 - 36.9%) -- 99.9% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja-Ash Dark Pulse vs. 248 HP / 156+ SpD Venusaur-Mega: 151-178 (41.5 - 49%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Greninja-Ash: 254-302 (89.1 - 105.9%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO
0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Greninja-Ash: 254-302 (89.1 - 105.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Ability: Download
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Discharge
- Toxic
- Recover

Porygon2 has to be one of the most annoying eviolite holder no matter what tier. It has decent hp but very high defenses. It also has a very nice sp attack stat of 105. Porygon2 can switch into predicted draco meteors from garchomp and get a download boost to its already amazing special attack. Mega Garchomp can barely survive an ice beam from porygon2.
0 SpA Porygon2 Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp-Mega: 284-336 (79.5 - 94.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
But with the download boost its a OHKO. As you can see.
+1 0 SpA Porygon2 Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp-Mega: 424-500 (118.7 - 140%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Porygon2 manages to take all of Garchomps attacks very well.
252+ SpA Garchomp-Mega Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Porygon2: 62-74 (16.5 - 19.7%) -- possible 6HKO
4 Atk Garchomp-Mega Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Porygon2: 126-148 (33.6 - 39.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ SpA Garchomp-Mega Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Porygon2: 109-130 (29.1 - 34.7%) -- 10% chance to 3HKO

Although ash greninja does more damage it doesnt enjoy a discharge from Porygon2.
0 SpA Porygon2 Discharge vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Greninja-Ash: 158-188 (55.4 - 65.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Ash greninjas best move has low pp and a chance to miss seeing how greninja is locked into specs hydro pump it will eventually run out of pp on hydro pump unless it swaps out.
252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja-Ash Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Porygon2: 153-180 (40.9 - 48.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

reserving Chansey

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Soft-Boiled

4 Atk Garchomp-Mega Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 228-268 (32.4 - 38.1%) -- 96.6% chance to 3HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs (untransformed) Greninja-Ash Hydro Pump vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 145-172 (20.6 - 24.4%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

Chansey tanks easily both. Moreover, he's not passive in the war of hazards. Obviously, the team around Chansey will need another pokemon for the hazards control.

Highlights

Threat of the Round:

: Tapu Fini is really good right now and one of the biggest worries when using this core.

Additional Notes:

: Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse are unviable but it can pressure this core regardless.
: The submitted spread is outdated. If you use the new spread (252 HP / 172+ Def / 68 SpD / 16 Spe), Mega Garchomp actually has a good shot at 2HKOing it after minor chip damage.
: Porygon2 is completely unviable.

Round 60 Core: Mega Venusaur + Tapu Fini

Venusaur-Mega @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 68 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Leech Seed
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Synthesis

Tapu Fini @ Leftovers
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Def / 12 SpA / 40 SpD / 192 Spe
Calm Nature
- Defog
- Moonblast
- Scald
- Taunt

  • Mega Venusaur and Tapu Fini pair really well together. Mega Venusaur can check Electric- and Grass-types like Tapu Koko and Tapu Bulu for Tapu Fini, while it in return removes hazards, provides a Heatran check, and an additional Ash-Greninja check, taking a lot of pressure off of Mega Venusaur.
  • Try to post only OU viable Pokémon and don't post sets specifically for this core, additionally your threat should not be complete deadweight against teams that do not feature the core of Mega Venusuar + Tapu Fini. Everyone have a good day!

Calm Mind + Pain Split Magearna

Magearna @ Wiki Berry / Fairium Z
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 248 HP / 28 Def / 224 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Fleur Cannon
- Thunderbolt
- Calm Mind
- Pain Split

Magearna is not 3HKO'd by any of these targets (unless Tapu Fini runs Nature's Madness) and proceeds to use the two Pokemon as setup fodder. Against Mega Venusaur, Wiki Berry helps more to set up due to repeated Leech Seed + Hidden Power Fire chip which may wear this Pokemon down quickly. On the other hand, Fairium Z can be run for Tapu Fini if an immediate nuke is needed.

0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Magearna: 90-108 (24.7 - 29.7%) -- 100% chance to 4HKO
0 SpA Tapu Fini Scald vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Magearna: 73-87 (20.1 - 23.9%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

Ice-Z Kyurem-Black

Kyurem-Black @ Icium Z
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Freeze Shock
- Fusion Bolt
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power

I know I keep using Kyurem, but its just so good at smashing cores. Kyurem outspeeds and OHKOs Venu with Z-Freeze Shock. Fini is outsped and 2HKOed by Fusion Bolt, while Kyurem is able to live a Moonblast from Fini.

Calcs V.S.
:

252 Atk Teravolt Kyurem-Black Fusion Bolt vs. 248 HP / 16 Def Tapu Fini: 234-276 (68.2 - 80.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
12 SpA Tapu Fini Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Kyurem-Black: 242-288 (61.8 - 73.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Calcs V.S.
:

252 Atk Teravolt Kyurem-Black Subzero Slammer (200 BP) vs. 252 HP / 172+ Def Venusaur-Mega: 528-624 (145 - 171.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO (Freeze Shock base)

Kartana @ Normalium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Sacred Sword
- Giga Impact

Tapu Fini is a fairly safe setup fodder for Kartana. Then, a +2 ZNormal OHKOes M-Venusaur. However, Kartana shouldn't set up on M-Venusaur because of HP Fire, and be careful of not wasting a Z-Move on the wrong target.

EVs: 252 HP / 40 SpD / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

Salazzale is able to set up substuites against Mega-Venusaur its ability also allows it to toxic Mega Venusaur which will never miss.
Salazzale manages to outspeed Tapu Fini. It can toxic the Fini while its sub is up disable its scald then set up a substuite and heal its hp back from its black sludge. It may struggle if Tapu Fini taunts it but Salazzale can still take a scald from Tapu Fini.
12 SpA Tapu Fini Scald vs. 252 HP / 40 SpD Salazzle-Totem: 236-282 (69.4 - 82.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery

Tornadus-Therian

Tornadus-Therian @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Defog

Tornadus-T can switch into Leech Seed and 2HKO Mega Venusaur with Hurricane, and it's not bothered too much with the residual damage because it can recover thanks to Regenerator, Sludge Bomb can give it some problems though, so it needs to be quite careful, having to predict Leech Seed, Synthesis to enter with safety.

252 SpA Tornadus-Therian Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 68 SpD Venusaur-Mega: 258-306 (70.8 - 84%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Sludge Bomb vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Tornadus-Therian: 127-150 (42.3 - 50%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Despite not having super effective coverage, can remove Fini's Leftovers with Knock Off and SSSS can damage it seriously, at the point that SSSS + Hurricane can KO it with some minor damage

252 SpA Tornadus-Therian Supersonic Skystrike (185 BP) vs. 248 HP / 40+ SpD Tapu Fini: 189-223 (55.1 - 65%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Tornadus-Therian Hurricane vs. 248 HP / 40+ SpD Tapu Fini: 112-133 (32.6 - 38.7%) -- 99.4% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

(55.1 - 65%) + (32.6 - 38.7%) = (87.7 - 97.6%)

Hoopa-Unbound @ Choice Band
Ability: Magician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hyperspace Fury
- Zen Headbutt
- Gunk Shot
- Fire Punch

Despite being lock, this monster can still prove to be an issue for this core as tapu fini doesn't appreciate switching on it while being the dark resist.
Well, Hoopa-U is basically a fat core destructor so nothing surprising. But the fact that if it's bring on venusaur allow him to do a huge amount of dammage to almost anything is really helping it here. Despite only having 75% to hoko venu with rocks, venu is a mon that is hard to keep a full, plus venu isn't doing much back. Moreover since fini is 2hko by zen headbutt and ohko by gunk shot, it can't switch in either.

252 Atk Choice Band Hoopa-Unbound Hyperspace Fury vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Tapu Fini: 126-148 (36.7 - 43.1%) -- 99.1% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Choice Band Hoopa-Unbound Gunk Shot vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Tapu Fini: 404-476 (117.7 - 138.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Hoopa-Unbound Zen Headbutt vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Tapu Fini: 202-238 (58.8 - 69.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery 0 SpA Tapu Fini Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Hoopa-Unbound: 156-186 (51.8 - 61.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Choice Band Hoopa-Unbound Zen Headbutt vs. 248 HP / 172+ Def Venusaur-Mega: 306-360 (84.2 - 99.1%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Choice Band Hoopa-Unbound Hyperspace Fury vs. 248 HP / 172+ Def Venusaur-Mega: 189-223 (52 - 61.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Hoopa-Unbound: 93-109 (30.8 - 36.2%) -- 53% chance to 3HKO

PS: I personnally often run ada, cuz it grant some few 2hko's while lock on non stab/SE move against few things, like zapper for instance.

PS2: If I may, with that salazzle you may succeed to sub against venu thanks to disable but you basically won't toxic tapu fini, misty terrain is a thing.
More over, salazzle is underwhelming so anyway this won't achieve much.
Finally, as it stated in the OP this thread is for OU viable threats, I know I'm no one to tell you this but you've done it twice now.

Tapu Lele @ Psychium Z
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind
- Hidden Power Fire/ Focus Blast

Psychics in general are a hassle for this core to deal with, but Lele's the one that sprung to mind here. While you obviously don't want to switch lele in on a sludge bomb, it will just annihilate venusaur with +1 terrain boosted psyshock. Fini also has issues dealing with Lele even if it wins the terrain war by switching in, as +1 shattered psyche OHKOs after basically any chip damage.

0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Sludge Bomb vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Lele: 134-162 (47.6 - 57.6%) -- 90.6% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Tapu Lele Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 172+ Def Venusaur-Mega in Psychic Terrain: 260-308 (71.4 - 84.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

(if fini switches in as you calm mind on venusaur)

+1 252 SpA Tapu Lele Shattered Psyche (160 BP) vs. 248 HP / 40 SpD Tapu Fini: 303-357 (88.3 - 104%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Tapu Lele Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 16 Def Tapu Fini: 171-202 (49.8 - 58.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

(If Lele switches in)
+1 252 SpA Tapu Lele Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 16 Def Tapu Fini in Psychic Terrain: 256-303 (74.6 - 88.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flamethrower
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
- Roost

M-Venusaur upon switching in
  • 0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Charizard-Mega-Y: 102-121 (34.3 - 40.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
    • You should be able to 1v1 Venusaur, provided of course that you aren't crit or poisoned
  • 252 SpA Charizard-Mega-Y Flamethrower vs. 248 HP / 68+ SpD Thick Fat Venusaur-Mega in Sun: 188-224 (51.7 - 61.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
    • The second Sludge Bomb would leave you at 20-32%, and you would kill in the following turn
  • (Worth Noting against Venu)
    • While Venusaur can technically stall the sun with Synthesis, you are always free to Roost off the Sludge Bomb damage as well, and considering your ability to switch into Sludge Bomb, you should be able to stall out Synthesis anyways, again assuming no crits
Tapu Fini upon switching in
  • Tapu Fini Nature's Madness vs. 0 HP Charizard-Mega-Y: 148-148 (49.8 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
    • You should be able to 1v1 Fini, regardless of what it does, due to setting up sun and having a reliable recovery move
  • 252 SpA Charizard-Mega-Y Solar Beam vs. 248 HP / 40+ SpD Tapu Fini: 214-254 (62.3 - 74%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
    • Fini would leave you at around 21-28%, at which point you'd kill it in the following turn
  • 12 SpA Tapu Fini Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Charizard-Mega-Y in Sun: 72-86 (24.2 - 28.9%) -- 90.2% chance to 2HKO

And of course, this entire scenario is pointless if Rocks are up, however, the core doesn't involve that and if you're using Zard Y to beat this core, you definitely don't let Rocks stay up anyways

Reserving Amoonguss

Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 56 Def / 204 SpD
Calm Nature
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power Fire
- Sludge Bomb

0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Sludge Bomb vs. 248 HP / 204+ SpD Amoonguss: 102-120 (23.6 - 27.8%) -- possible 5HKO after Black Sludge recovery
12 SpA Tapu Fini Moonblast vs. 248 HP / 204+ SpD Amoonguss: 43-51 (9.9 - 11.8%) -- possibly the worst move ever

0 SpA Amoonguss Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 68 SpD Venusaur-Mega: 69-82 (18.9 - 22.5%) -- possible 5HKO
0 SpA Amoonguss Sludge Bomb vs. 248 HP / 40+ SpD Tapu Fini: 120-144 (34.9 - 41.9%) -- 77.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

First of all, Amoonguss is a counter of Tapu Fini thanks to the calcs. Moreover, with to regenerator, amoonguss is able to heal himself easily with a single switch when Venusaur needs to use Synthesis, an attack with only 8pp. So, in the long term, Amoonguss ppstall the Synthesis of Venusaur and beat it.

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly/Adamant* Nature
- Swords Dance

- Iron Head

*Adamant turns many of the rolls into actual KOes, letting you take less damage, however I still prefer Jolly because Exca is slow outside of Sand

Between Sand chip and a well timed SD + 2 Earthquakes, Excadrill dismantles Venusaur. It can then use Corkscrew Crash to remove Tapu Fini as well. It should try to avoid setting up on Fini, as a Scald means its doom due to its damage output.

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Stealth Rock

- Fly

The definition of OU Pokemon, Lando-T. Lando-T can get to +2 easily vs M-Venusaur and only fears switching into a Scald from Tapu Fini. Lando doesn't need to blow it's Z-move on Mega Venu, as +2 Fly is easily able to OHKO the fat dinosaur, saving it to smash through Tapu Fini. But even without an SD up it has a good chance to 2HKO Fini after rocks/chip damage with EQ on the switch.

+2 252 Atk Landorus-Therian Fly vs. 252 HP / 172+ Def Venusaur-Mega: 422-498 (115.9 - 136.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Dragalge @ Black Sludge
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpAtk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Dragon Tail
- Toxic Spikes
- Scald/Draco Meteor
- Sludge Wave
Yea this may seem like a niche pick but hear me out.
Dragalge having access to Dragon Tail can literally force Venu out, since Drag hardwalls all of Venu's moves bar leech seed.
Dragalge also hardwalls Tapu Fini, taking little damage and Easily TKOing Fini with sludge wave. Abusing Dragon Tail to phase also conditions Tapu FIni to come in and soak it, and Toxic Spikes applies pressure if they wanted to, say, stall.

I belive that dragalge isn't just a Tapu Fini hardwall. He can wall many other special Attackers in the tier, and can phase setup sweepers with Dragon Tail, and can TKO the two bulky fairies (Fini and Clef) as well as AV Tang. He can safely switch into Heatran, being able to tank Earth Power Pretty well, and phase him. Same Goes for Volc. He can also get free burns with scald if you predict the switch on many mons, but this is especially important with Lando-T and Garchomp. Dragalge in my opinion is a super underrated mon.

4 SpA Adaptability Dragalge Sludge Wave vs. 248 HP / 40+ SpD Tapu Fini: 188-224 (54.8 - 65.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
12 SpA Tapu Fini Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Dragalge: 63-75 (18.8 - 22.4%) -- possible 6HKO after Black Sludge recovery
4 SpA Adaptability Dragalge Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 68 SpD Venusaur-Mega: 108-128 (29.6 - 35.1%) -- 16.5% chance to 3HKO

Highlights

Threat of the Round:

: Where Mega Venusaur is supposed to be a check to Kartana, Swords Dance variants can overwhelm it very easily.

Additional Notes:

: This Magearna set fails to break Mega Venusaur.
: They're unviable.

Round 61 Core: Magearna + Toxapex

Magearna @ Leftovers
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 248 HP / 28 Def / 232 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 22 Spe
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch
- Pain Split
- Heart Swap

Toxapex @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 104 Def / 156 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Recover
- Haze
- Toxic / Toxic Spikes

  • Magearna and Toxapex form a formidable defensive core, with Magearna reliably taking on Psychic-types like Tapu Lele and Mega Alakazam, while Toxapex can check Pokemon like Mega Charizard X. Additionally, it can pivot into Ash-Greninja, often forcing it to use Dark Pulse, which Magearna can take advantage of.
  • Try to post only OU viable Pokémon and don't post sets specifically for this core, additionally your threat should not be complete deadweight against teams that do not feature the core of Magearna + Toxapex. Everyone have a good day!

Excadrill @ Steelium Z
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin

Excadrill can threaten both Magearna and Toxapex with a +2 Earthquake, which OHKO's both. While it cannot use Toxapex as fodder due to Scald, This specific Magearna is complete fodder for Excadrill.

Reserving Psychium Volc (btw what is that Pex spread)
Edit: Ty Jordy

Volcarona @ Psychium Z
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Bug Buzz
- Psychic

Ok so apparently Pex can still take a +1 Psychic after Rocks even with that much Defense investment, so catch it with the Z-Move. Busted bug easily takes care of Magearna, unless of course they make the pro-predict and Heart Swap as you QD....and they still can’t do anything.

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 244 HP / 52 Def / 100 SpD / 112 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Earthquake
- Facade

Thanks to its pseudo-immunity to status and decent bulk, Gliscor uses both Toxapex and Magearna as setup fodders. Additionally, Gliscor's Ground typing lets it block Magearna's Volt Switch and prevent Magearna's team from obtaining momentum.
