We welcome you to the "Tipping the Scales!" tourney, hosted by Olie and Articanus!

Official Tournament Rules thread:
http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38685

Caution: READ THE RULES CAREFULLY

The way this tourney operates is;
you are assigned 10 points when you sign up, and these are used to Purchase different Pokemon.

The Costs are arranged as such:

OU's: -3 Points
BL's: -2 Points
UU's: -1 Point
NFE's : +1

You are allowed to use NFEs in this tournament, since you get an additional point added to your (pot), if you use one. But you do not get more points for choosing a lower stage. ie: choosing charmander or Charmeleon will only earn you one point.

Note: Pikachu, Cubone, Clamperl, Trapinch, Vigoroth, Hippopotas and Snover will cost one point regardless of held item.
Phione, Scyther and Porygon2 are not considered NFE.

You cannot purchase NFEs after round 1.

If you win a Match. you earn points based on the score you attain. ie:
if you win 5-0, you get 5 more points added to your pot.

There are also other ways to gain points, but those are for you to find out! Hint: be unique with team building x)
This tournament is called 'Tipping the Scales', since the goal is to have a balanced team, which could earn you more points.

Other Rules:
  • Sleep Clause
  • Freeze Clause
  • Evasion Clause
  • OHKO Clause
  • Species Clause
  • Self-KO Clause
  • No Scouting. I realize this is less relevant since teams will likely be changed each round, but If a player asks you to leave their match, you must do so.
  • Battle Timeout must be on and will be enforced.
  • Battles must be played on Shoddybattle.
  • All teams must be sent to Olie for Approval.
  • All Match logs must be sent to Articanus.
Any questions should be forwarded to Articanus or Myself.

Good Luck to All Participants!!!

If I spend all 10 points on my first team, can I use it thoroughout the entire tournament?

If I replace an OU later in the tourney with an UU, do you gain 2 points? As in, does your point "pool" ever decrease? Or is it spent like cash?

Yes, you are free to spend all 10 points in the first round, and they are with you for the entire tournament You can swap the sets as you wish throughout rounds.
As for your other question: you gain a "pool" of pokemon that you are free to switch about as the tournament progresses. You never lose a Pokemon that you buy, and do not gain points for replacing an OU with a UU, or anything like that. I do encourage you to be creative with your choices though, as to possibly get more points for the following rounds!
