Actually, there were some other tips I've thought up that I'll end up adding to the guide once it's on-site. I'll house those other tips and tricks in this post.
Free Evolutionary Stones
In all three Generation II games, Bill is visiting family in Johto. Residing in the Sea Cottage is his grandfather who eagerly asks to see certain Pokemon. Depending on which Pokemon you show him, you will receive an evolutionary stone that correlates with that Pokemon. The Pokemon he ask to see and their rewards are listed below:
Stone: Pokemon
Everstone: Lickitung
Fire Stone: Growlithe (Gold)/Vulpix (Silver/Crystal)
Leaf Stone: Oddish
Water Stone: Staryu
ThunderStone: Pichu
Free In-Game Pokemon
Throughout the game, certain NPCs will offer you either Eggs; low-level, basic Pokemon; or trades for your own Pokemon. Listed below is each NPCs' location and what Pokemon they offer.
Note: The Odd Egg received has a heightened chance of being shiny.
Pokemon Received: Given by - Unique Information
Onix [Trade]: Violet City NPC in exchange for a Bellsprout - Comes nicknamed "ROCKY" and holding a Bitter Berry.
Togepi: Prof. Elm's assistant after earning the Zephyr Badge - No unique information available
Odd Egg: The DayCare Man the first time you speak with him - The Odd Egg may contain Pichu, Magby, Elekid, Igglybuff, or Cleffa with a higher chance of being shiny.
Machop [Trade]: Goldenrod City NPC in exchange for a Drowzee (Gold/Silver) or Abra (Crystal) - Comes nicknamed "MUSCLE" and holding a Gold Berry.
Voltorb [Trade]: Olivine City NPC in exchange for a Krabby - Comes nicknamed "VOLTY" and holding a PRZCureBerry.
Shuckle: Cianwood City NPC - The NPC will take Shuckle back after time passes if its Happiness level is low.
Tyrogue: Defeating the Fighting Dojo Master in Mt. Mortar's lowest level - You must have an open party slot to obtain Tyrogue or you must do the whole journey over again.
Rhydon [Trade]: Blackthorne NPC in exchange for a female Dragonair - Comes nicknamed "DON" and holding a Bitter Berry.
Dratini: The old man in Dragon's Den - You must have the Rising Sun Badge and completed his test in order to get Dratini. It also comes with the move Extremespeed.
Aerodactyl [Trade]: Route 14 NPC in exchange for a Chansey - Comes nicknamed "AEROY" and holding a Gold Berry.
Rapidash [Trade]: Pewter City NPC in exchange for a Gloom (Gold/Silver) - Comes nicknamed "RUNNY" and holding a Burnt Berry.
Xatu [Trade]: Pewter City NPC in exchange for a Haunter (Crystal) - Comes nicknamed "PAUL" and holding a MysteryBerry
Magneton [Trade]: Power Plant NPC in exchange for a Dugtrio (Crystal) - Comes nicknamed "MAGGIE" and holding a Metal Coat.
Kurt's Apricorn Balls
Azalea Town's resident Poke Ball maker, Kurt, will trade one of his special Balls if you give him an Apricorn. Each Apricorn will result in a different Poke Ball whose unique characteristics differentiate them from their mass produced counterparts. Unfortunately, Kurt can only make one Ball at a time, meaning only one Apricorn Ball can be obtained in a given day. The kind of Apricot needed to make each Ball and links to their descriptions are listed below.

The Once-a-Week Siblings are NPCs who offer the player type-boosting items free of charge. The catch, however, is that you must locate them on the correct day of the week in order to receive your gift. Their locations and days to meet them are as follows:

Sun: Sunny; Route 37 - Magnet
Mon: Monica; Route 40 - Sharp Beak
Tue: Tuscanny; Route 29 - Pink Bow
Wed: Wesley; Lake of Rage - Blackbelt
Thu: Arthur; Route 36 - Hard Stone
Fri: Frieda; Route 32 - Poison Barb
Sat: Santos; Blackthorne City - Spell Tag
