Tips for memorization in school?

Sing retarded math songs like mrs Kouba does its funny and helps you learn stuff but then i get changed to stupid mrs. casper borning shit.

like slope is rise divided by the runnnn

I like trying to relate what I'm learning to something I like...for example, I learned about photosynthesis back in the day through thinking about Skiploom using the technique. I was also learning vocab words and immediately linked it to a person, as it perfectly described him.

I also like breaking down words into more familiar phrases that are related to it. As for an example, I can't really think of anything at the moment...

I used to use the write it down approach, but I wrote down whatever I needed to "memorize" in my own words. Basically I summarized whatever definition I need to remember. I don't really do this anymore mostly because I'm lazy, so I just read and try to understand the concept behind it. You don't really to memorize the whole definition of something word by word, all you need to do is get the idea and understand it, and usually you can use common sense when asked about it in an exam. That has always worked for me.

I think the most effective way of memorization is a catchy song. My 8th grade French teacher played these songs for verb congegations and I still know exactly how everything is congegated.

It has to be really catchy though.

This probably sounds really cliche, but understanding the concepts before memorizing the intricacies is always the way to go. This is a really basic example, but lets take DNA Replication for example:
Enzyme splits helix
Enzyme makes sure helix does not get screwed up and misformed
Primer attached to sequence
Enzyme builds DNA

Then you can slowly fill in the blanks, like the enzyme that prevents the DNA from becoming "screwed up" (too tightly coiled) is topoisomerase. I think things become a lot easier once you get the general idea then become a lot more specific.

There is always the option of making a shitload of flashcards like I used to do for my Anatomy class last year, but I found that doing that didn't help all that much.

On a side note, holy crap it's been a while since I've posted here. Hi Smogon.

battle ends and down goes charles' father <-> father charles goes down and ends battle
I always used to wonder how you were supposed to remember if it was battle ends and down goes father charles or battle ends and down goes charles' father.

I used to use "fred can gurgle drink and eat bananas" and "boys eat acid drops girls chew fudge". My teacher was weird.

Have a nice day.

my teacher came up with the idea of revising in the room you'll be taking the exam in, and focusing on a bit of the room when learning something tricksy.
served him well enough.

I find repeating what I find to be hard a few times, followed by detailing tout what I've understood REALLY helps me learn/memorize stuff(btw Bengali SUCKS)

I would sincerely recommend acronyms. Sometimes I apply the sort of nonsensical sentences approach but at other times the letters form a crude rhyme. Even if it's keywords, it can help in an exam as you can keep in mind what to include.

Apparently studying at a desk is more productive which is similar to what akuchi suggests.

For the Sciences I find that it's really useful to write the notes out again as you're revising. In fact, it may be worth copying them out all over again. I did this with my ICT notes and had a fileblock just consisting of the notes which was easier to revise from.
