[OVERVIEW]
Togedemaru finds a solid place in NU thanks to its unique type combination that allows it to be a reliable answer to a number of Pokemon in the tier, such as Vanilluxe, Vivillon, Vikavolt, Alolan Exeggutor, Whimsicott, and Comfey. It differentiates itself from other Steel-type Pokemon in the tier thanks to Wish, giving it longevity other Steel-types like Silvally-Steel, Steelix, and Klinklang lack. Togedemaru can also act as a great pivot with a nice Speed tier that allows it to outspeed most defensive Pokemon with little Speed investment. However, its low natural bulk makes it difficult to switch in, even on resisted hits. Even after investing into its defenses, it often falls short of consistently checking better special attackers in the tier like Vanilluxe.

Moves
========
Wish allows Togedemaru to regain health itself or pass a decent-sized amount of recovery to a teammate. Spiky Shield allows it to safely recover health with Wish, force foes to take residual damage when they use a contact move, and scout for moves from Choice-locked Pokemon like Passimian and Braviary. U-turn lets Togedemaru pivot against Pokemon such as Steelix, Rhydon, and Palossand that would otherwise put up entry hazards, utilize it as setup bait, or threaten to OHKO it. Super Fang lets Togedemaru significantly wear down Rhydon, Steelix, and Seismitoad, all of which lack recovery. The last slot is dedicated to dealing with Water- and Flying-types like Vaporeon, Slowking, Vivillon, and Braviary through Zing Zap, while Iron Head is an option to deal with Fairy-types like Diancie, Whimsicott, and Comfey.
Set Details
========
52 Speed EVs allow Togedemaru to outspeed Jolly Incineroar so Togedemaru can pivot on it with U-turn. The remaining EVs are used to maximize its HP and Special Defense, improving its ability to take hits from special attackers such as Vanilluxe, Whimsicott, Comfey, and Vikavolt. Leftovers is used to further enhance Togedemaru's ability to take damage and recover back up from it. It also synergizes with the additional safe turns provided by Spiky Shield. Lightning Rod gives Togedemaru an immunity to Electric-type attacks, most notably preventing pivoting from Volt Switch users such as Rotom, Heliolisk, and Vikavolt.
Usage Tips
========
Because of Togedemaru's low bulk, it has to watch out for additional coverage moves like Focus Blast from Heliolisk as well as super effective Hidden Power variants from Vanilluxe and Comfey. The majority of the time it will be pivoting around with U-turn against any of its answers or passing a Wish if a teammate is worn down. Spiky Shield ensures Togedemaru will get its Wish recovery on the second turn and helps bridge its weakness to additional coverage moves and Z-Moves. It also gives Togedemaru a way of punishing physical attackers like Passimian and Medicham when they are trying to use Close Combat, U-turn, or High Jump Kick. Utilize Zing Zap or Iron Head when in a comfortable position against frail special attackers like Vivillon.
Team Options
========
Primarily used on more defensive teams because of its lack of damage output, this set can provide an appreciated wall against a wide variety of Pokemon such as Vanilluxe, Vikavolt, and Comfey, as well as take on defensive walls like Slowbro and Cryogonal. Physically defensive walls like Vileplume, Slowbro, Blastoise, and Torterra can reliably deal with Ground-type Pokemon such as Rhydon, Steelix, and Torterra, which are major concerns for Togedemaru. Xatu deserves a special mention, as it pivots against the majority of Ground-type Pokemon that Togedemaru can't deal with and it provides one of the most appreciated utilities in preventing entry hazards and status spreading. Fire-resistant Pokemon such as Rhydon, Diancie, and Hariyama that help deal with Incineroar and Magmortar are also highly appreciated. Furthermore Fighting-type answers in Slowbro, Vileplume, Palossand, and Golbat help overcome the wide array of Fighting-types in the tier. Ground-type Pokemon like Palossand and Torterra as well as Water-type Pokemon such as Slowbro and Blastoise appreciate Togedemaru's ability to deal with Vanilluxe and Vikavolt. Lastly, it can pair with common stall staples in Pyukumuku and Audino, even forming a Wish passing core with the latter.

Other Options
=============
A Choice Scarf set can also be utilized with Zing Zap, Iron Head, U-turn, and Super Fang or Toxic, allowing Togedemaru to make use of its high Speed and useful offensive typing to pivot with. However, Togedemaru lacks a great Attack stat and high-Base Power STAB moves, meaning it can't revenge kill as many Pokemon as Choice Scarf Heliolisk. Toxic can be used to deal with more durable physical walls such as Palossand, Seismitoad, Quagsire, and Torterra, all of which can only be damaged by Super Fang. Nuzzle, while a good way to spread paralysis, limits the rest of Togedemaru's moves too much to warrant using it over the recommended options.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Ground-types**: Steelix, Quagsire, Seismitoad, Palossand, Torterra, and Rhydon care little for Togedemaru's attacks and are able to put up entry hazards, set up with Curse or Swords Dance, or OHKO Togedemaru with Earthquake or Earth Power.
**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Incineroar and Magmortar can OHKO Togedemaru with a super effective STAB move, while Incineroar can also utilize Togedemaru's lack of damage output to set up with Swords Dance.
**Fighting-types**: Fighting types like Passimian, Medicham, Scrafty, and Hariyama can threaten Togedemaru with super effective coverage.
**Physically Defensive Pokemon**: Slowbro, Vileplume, Garbodor, and Druddigon, despite not resisting or even being weak to Togedemaru's moves, can all take on any hit from it thanks to its lack of raw damage output. All of the aforementioned Pokemon also have the ability to outlast its U-turn pivoting or punish the fact that U-turn makes contact.
