ZU Toucannon (QC 3/3) (GP 2/2)

[OVERVIEW]

A high Attack stat, a powerful STAB move in Brave Bird, and solid coverage moves such as Bullet Seed, Knock Off, and Brick Break allow Toucannon to break through various walls in the ZU metagame. It also has a pretty passable Special Attack stat, allowing it to use moves like Overheat. With access to Bullet Seed in particular, it can break through Golem, which many other attackers in the tier struggle to do. However, its base 60 Speed tier isn't the best to have and leaves it outsped by a lot of Pokemon, such as Electivire, Floatzel, and Zebstrika. In particular, most Volt Switch users outspeed Toucannon and can easily force it out. It's pretty frail as well, and with its Stealth Rock weakness and reliance on recoil moves, it can get worn down quite quickly. Lastly, it faces competition with Pokemon such as Choice Band Komala and Electivire as a wallbreaker, the former due to its much greater bulk and immunity to status and the latter for its great ability in Motor Drive, significantly better coverage, and much better Speed.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Bullet Seed is used against bulky Rock- and Water-types such as Pyukumuku and Golem, breaking through the latter's Sturdy ability. It can also break through Focus Sash on Pokemon such as Kadabra and benefit from Skill Link. Knock Off allows Toucannon to get rid of items such as Eviolite from Pokemon like Bronzor and Mareanie, allowing them to be worn down far more easily. It can also 2HKO common Bronzor variants. U-turn uses Toucannon's offensive presence to gain momentum for its team. Alternatively, Brick Break can be used to hit Probopass, which otherwise completely walls this set. Overheat is used to hit Mawile, as well as weakened Gourgeist-XL, due to it being much safer to use when compared to Brave Bird.

Set Details
========

Skill Link is the ability of choice to enable Bullet Seed to hit five times, allowing it to viably break down targets of the move. An Adamant nature allows Toucannon to always OHKO Gourgeist-XL after Stealth Rock, as well as hit Altaria after it has used Roost due to Toucannon's low Speed. On the other hand, a Jolly nature allows Toucannon to Speed tie with Abomasnow and outspeed Altaria before it can use Roost, though it is much less effective at wallbreaking. A Naughty or Naive nature can be used if Overheat is used in the fourth moveslot as to not lower its damage output when compared to Jolly or Adamant. 29 HP IVs give Toucannon the benefit of less recoil damage from Life Orb and less damage from Stealth Rock.

Usage Tips
========

This set's main use is to break down common walls in the ZU metagame such as Gourgeist-XL, Golem, and Bronzor to open holes in the opponent's team, which its teammates can take advantage of. Due to its mediocre Speed tier and bulk, it really needs the opportunity to be safely switched in. This can be done via Volt Switch or U-turn with Pokemon such as Probopass or Silvally-Fighting. Toucannon should use U-turn when you predict a Steel-type to switch in. It can then bring in a Magnet Pull user like Probopass or Alolan Golem to get rid of said Steel-types, which can be used to make Brave Bird usage more free for Toucannon.

Team Options
========

To safely switch Toucannon in, it needs a U-turn or Volt Switch user. Probopass and Alolan Golem in particular are able to bring Toucannon in safely with a slow Volt Switch while also being able to trap Steel-types such as Mawile with Magnet Pull. A Pokemon that can effectively check Electric-types, such as Electivire, Golem, or Silvally-Ground, is key, as Toucannon has an overall bad matchup with Pokemon of that type. Due to Toucannon's low Speed and below average bulk, it appreciates having bulky teammates that can take on offensive threats in the metagame more easily. Examples of these include Silvally-Water, Muk, and Bronzor. Sticky Web setters such as Shuckle and Smeargle allow Toucannon to somewhat circumvent its mediocre Speed. However, one must note that Toucannon fails to outspeed threats such as Zebstrika and Floatzel after Sticky Web, even with a Jolly nature.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Toucannon has a decently sized movepool that includes some alternative options. A specially based mixed attacker set can be used with Boomburst, Heat Wave, Brave Bird, and Bullet Seed, allowing it to wallbreak without having to rely too much on Brave Bird, but this suffers from a worse matchup with Probopass and Bronzor. A Choice Scarf set can be utilized to let Toucannon do better against a lot of offensive threats in the metagame, but its Speed tier even with a Choice Scarf is underwhelming, and it fails to outspeed a lot of other common Choice Scarf users like Electivire. Most notably, it fails to outspeed Floatzel, one of the most common offensive threats in the metagame. Rock Blast offers coverage against Rotom-S, Crustle, and Shuckle and does better overall damage to Altaria. Roost can be used to heal off some recoil damage from Brave Bird and Life Orb from Toucannon, but its frailty makes it a risky option, especially when it requires giving up one of Toucannon's coverage moves. Flyinium Z can be used to make Brave Bird into a powerful Supersonic Skystrike that lacks recoil but makes its other moves weaker overall. Swords Dance can be used to make Toucannon even stronger, but it is much too slow and frail to effectively set up. Lastly, Choice Band allows Toucannon to hit insanely hard but makes it very prediction reliant as well.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: Electivire, Raichu, and Zebstrika all outspeed Toucannon and easily KO it. Zebstrika with Sap Sipper additionally block Bullet Seed's use. Rotom-S in particular is a huge issue for Toucannon, since it takes little from Knock Off and resists Bullet Seed. In general, Toucannon is one of the biggest baits for Volt Switch from the majority of these Pokemon in the whole metagame.

**Steel-types**: While Toucannon can easily weaken Bronzor and Metang thanks to Knock Off, its four-moveslot syndrome means it can lack coverage against Pokemon such as Probopass and Mawile.

**Revenge Killers**: Low Speed and poor bulk leave Toucannon susceptible to revenge killers. In this regard, Pokemon such as Swanna, Rapidash, Floatzel, and Choice Band Komala are major concerns.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Good coverage moves like Bullet Seed allow Toucannon to easily beat typical Normal-types checks such as Golem. The fact it can do this without using a Z-Move or causing recoil damage gives it a niche over Komala. (Toucannon isn't particularly a Normal type in any relevant manner to the overview, since it should carry no Normal STAB outside of OO and does not have a Fighting type weakness. In this instance I'd actually correct it to talk about Toucannon's ability to abuse its incredibly powerful Brave Bird and its coverage moves to break through the common walls of the metagame.)
  • Toucannon can easily go mixed due to its access to Boomburst and Overheat combined with an okay Special Attack stat of 75, while its physical moves don't get nerfed too heavily in damage thanks to its rather high 120 base physical Attack. (This part would need to be removed because of set adjustments.)
  • Toucannon's 60 base Speed isn't the best speed tier to have and is outsped by a lot of Pokemon in the ZU metagame. It's pretty frail as well. (Examples of common threats that force Toucannon out should be mentioned. Volt Switch in particular should be brought up because of the potential momentum drain Toucannon can be if forced to deal with a faster opponent with a pivoting move that can threaten it, especially if that move is Volt Switch. The mention of fragility should be expanded on to include an explanation of how Toucannon's recoil damage and weakness to Stealth Rock limit its overall effectiveness.)
  • Faces competition with Pokemon such as Komala, Bouffalant, Kecleon, and Chatot. (Not so much on Bouffalant and Kecleon. What you need to focus on is what competes with Komala at the job of offensively wallbreaking, meaning that focus should be varied beyond just normal types. Electivire would be a good choice for this, since it too has a set for breaking as an all out attacker. Choice Band Komala should get special focus as well, since it's just a little bit faster than Toucannon and is nearly as powerful.)
  • Still a decent choice for a Normal-type attacker overall. (Remove this part.)

[SET]
name: Mixed Attacker

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Boomburst is the main move of the set, with high base power, and overall good damage output. It can also hit through Substitutes.
  • Brave Bird is the secondary STAB of choice, and it can be used to hit Grass-, Bug-, and Fighting-type Pokemon such as Silvally-Fighting, Pinsir, and Leafeon for super effective damage. (Toucannon isn't likely to want to take on most of these, as all are faster than it is. You should instead focus on Brave Bird's ability to hit the very common Gourgeist-Super while still having few switch ins.
  • Bullet Seed is used against bulky Rock- and Water-types such as Silvally-Water and Golem, and gets benefit from Skill Link. (This isn't very informative at all. You should instead expand on this to explain that Bullet Seed breaks through Golem while completely circumventing sturdy and breaking through Pyukumuku.)
  • Overheat is used to hit Pokemon that Toucannon often has trouble breaking down otherwise such as Bronzor and Tangela. (Overheat will be exclusively for hitting Mawile while finishing off weakened Gourgeist-Super without having to take additional recoil damage from Brave Bird.)
Add a point for Knock Off after Bullet Seed, the primary purpose for which is breaking through the common Bronzor. Add a point for each of U-turn and Brick Break before Overheat. U-turn allows Toucannon to take advantage of its offensive presence to gain momentum for the team. Brick Break hits Probopass, which otherwise can take a couple of hits from Toucannon.

Set Details
========

  • Skill Link is the ability of choice to make it so Bullet Seed can hit 5 times, allowing it to viably break down targets of the move.
  • A Naive nature is used so as to increase Toucannon's speed while not lowering the damage output of Toucannon's physical moves further. (This needs to be adjusted a bit to reflect the new set. Adamant offers Toucannon the ability to always OHKO Gourgeist-Super after Stealth Rock and hit Altaria after it uses Roost, keeping its HP down but is vulnerable to physically defensive Altaria switching in and abusing Roost to wear Toucannon down. Jolly allows Toucannon to speed tie Abomasnow and hit Altaria before it uses Roost, but is less effective at wallbreaking. Add a point after this to state that a Naughty or Naive nature can be used to increase the power of Overheat when Overheat is chosen as the fourth move in return for reducing Toucannon's already poor special bulk further.)
  • Special Attack EVs are prioritized more than Attack EVs because Toucannon's base Special Attack is lower overall, and even with little investment and a neutral nature, Toucannon can still hit pretty hard with its physical moves.
  • Life Orb increases Toucannon's damage output while allowing it to switch moves, the latter of which being huge for this set.
29 HP IVs reduces recoil damage from Life Orb and damage taken from Stealth Rock.

Usage Tips
========

  • Due to Toucannon's mediocre speed tier and bulk, it really needs the opportunity to be safely switched-in. This can be done via Volt Switch or U-turn. (Examples of metagame partners that can help to get Toucannon in safely should be included, particularly those that help against common attackers.)
  • However, it can easily pivot on Ground-type attacks from Pokemon such as Sandslash or Gabite. (This is not particularly true, since most Ground types can pressure Toucannon.)
  • Overheat is a very risky move to use, and the misuse of it can result in the damage output of Boomburst being compromised. Finding the right time to use it is advised. However, Brave Bird and Bullet Seed are not affected by Overheat's Special Attack drops, so Toucannon can still be useful after said drop.
It should be explained that Toucannon should be used to break down common walls like Gourgeist-Super and Bronzor and open holes in the opposing team for its teammates to take advantage of later in the game. It would be good to mention Toucannon's ability to utilize U-turn to take advantage of Steel types that would normally check it when paired with a Magnet Pull partner to remove those steel types as an obstacle to freely abusing Brave Bird.

Team Options
========
  • A Pokemon that can effectively check Electric-types is key as Toucannon has an overall bad match-up with Pokemon of that type. Examples of these include Electivire, Abomasnow, and Sivally-Dragon. (Abomasnow and Silvally-Dragon are both dubious options for this, as neither is immune to Volt Switch and thus fail to actually do anything to stop the biggest problems for Toucannon. Golem for Electivire and Electivire itself for Zebstrika and non-Wisp Rotom-Fan are both more advisable choices, as is Silvally-Ground.)
  • To safely switch Toucannon in, it needs a U-turn or Volt Switch user. Examples of these in the ZU metagame include Probopass, Electivire, and Silvally-Fighting.
  • Toucannon can be an effective choice on Sticky Web teams thanks to its slow but not too slow speed tier and high power. If one chooses to use Toucannon on such builds, a Sticky Web setter such as Shuckle, Masquerain, or Smeargle is necessary. (It should be mentioned Sticky Web teams, while effective at making use of the toucan, still do suffer significantly from Floatzel outspeeding it despite Sticky Web. This applies even to a positive speed nature.)
Bulky teammates that check offensive threats in general should be mentioned, as most are a threat to Toucannon.

[SET]

move 2: Brave Bird
move 3: Bullet Seed
move 4: U-turn
item: Choice Scarf

evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

This set will be moved to OO, as it isn't particularly effective in the metagame at the moment because of Floatzel and Zebstrika still outspeeding it. You can talk about how Toucannon can use a Choice Scarf set to prey on attackers that would ordinarily threaten it, but suffers from its disappointing speed still leaving it slower than one of the biggest threats in the metagame.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Rock Blast is used to hit other Flying-types such as Oricorio and Altaria, as well as Pokemon such as Rapidash and Abomasnow.
  • Brave Bird is the STAB move of choice and and is quite strong with 120 base Attack and high base power.
  • Bullet Seed hits some common Flying switch-ins such as Golem as well as revenge Water-types like Floatzel and Simipour.
  • U-turn allows Toucannon to pivot out of a difficult matchup.
Set Details
========

  • Skill Link is the ability of choice to make Rock Blast and Bullet Seed always hit for 5 times each.
  • A Jolly nature combined with max Speed EVs makes this set as fast as it possibly could.
  • Max Attack EVs are used to make Toucannon hit as hard as possible.
Usage Tips
========

  • Toucannon still has trouble getting in despite the increased speed given by the Choice Scarf. Volt Switch and U-turn users help in this regard.
  • Brave Bird's recoil damage can stack up over time, so proper use of it is key to Toucannon's durability.
  • Toucannon's U-turn can be used when the opponent is about to send in a check to this set, such as Bronzor or Metang.
  • This set's main function is as a revenge killer to threats like Rapidash or Floatzel. That being said, Bullet Seed can often be predicted easily.
Team Options
========

  • A check to Electric-type Pokemon is key for this set. Sandslash, Silvally-Dragon, and Golem are good options for this. Sandslash can also remove Stealth Rock for Toucannon, which can wear it down fast.
  • A U-turn or Volt Switch user such as Zebstrika, Probopass, or Komala can get Toucannon in more safely.
  • A check to Steel-types is required since this set does laughably bad against the major ones in ZU. Options for this include Silvally-Water, Rapidash, and Combusken.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Swords Dance can be used to make Toucannon even stronger, but Toucannon is much too slow and frail to effectively set up.
  • Brick Break can be used to hit other Normal-types as well as Probopass but otherwise offers very little notable coverage.
The specially biased breaker set with Boomburst and Heat Wave would be mentioned here as an option to still wallbreak while reducing recoil from Brave Bird, but suffer from a worse matchup with Gourgeist-Super and Bronzor. Rock Blast isn't ideal for coverage, but it doesn't cause recoil like Brave Bird does and hits Rotom-Fan, Crustle and Shuckle while also doing better damage to Altaria. Roost can be used to heal off recoil damage, but giving up coverage options is rarely worth it because of Toucannon's fragility. Flyinium Z can be used to avoid recoil while offering Toucannon greater one-time breaking power, but suffers from having its moves greatly weakened otherwise. Choice Band can be used for greater breaking power on any one move, but suffers from being highly reliant on prediction.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: Electivire, Raichu, and Zebstrika all outspeed Toucannon even when not using a Choice Scarf and easily KO it. Zebstrika with Sap Sipper additionally block Bullet Seed's use, but neither it or Raichu would like to switch in on a Boomburst. (Rotom-Fan should be mentioned here, as it's one of the biggest threats to Toucannon in general. Volt Switch from Electivire, Rotom-Fan and Zebstrika should also get special focus, as it gets the best of both worlds when facing Toucannon in both taking momentum while threatening to outright KO the toucan.)

**Steel-types**: Purely physical Toucannon sets are walled heavily by Pokemon such as Metang, Mawile, and Bronzor since it lacks a proper way to hit any of them. These Pokemon should be wary of Overheat though from mixed sets. Probopass can tank hits from both types of Toucannon sets and can hit back with Flash Cannon or Volt Switch. (This section should be adjusted to match the new wallbreaking set, which always covers Bronzor and Metang but fails to cover either Mawile, Probopass or both.)

A section for faster Pokemon should be added, as Toucannon generally does not enjoy being outsped by any threat.

  • Brave Bird is the STAB of choice on this set, allowing it to break through Gourgeist-Super while still being very strong overall. (It's important to mention just how hard Toucannon's Brave Bird is to switch into, as this is the primary reason for Toucannon's effectiveness as a wallbreaker.)
  • Bullet Seed is used against bulky Rock- and Water-types such as Pyukumuku and Golem, breaking through the latter's Sturdy ability, and getting benefit from Skill Link.
  • Knock Off allows Toucannon to get rid of items such as Eviolite from Pokemon like Bronzor or Mareanie, allowing them to be worn down far easier. (Knock Off also has the benefit of just outright 2hkoing common Bronzor, keeping it from being able to wall Toucannon.)
  • U-turn uses Toucannon's offensive presence to gain momentum for its team.

  • 29 HP IVs give Toucannon the benefit of less recoil damage from Life Orb and less damage from Stealth Rock.
Usage Tips
========

  • Due to Toucannon's mediocre speed tier and bulk, it really needs the opportunity to be safely switched-in. This can be done via Volt Switch or U-turn. This can be done easily via Pokemon such as Probopass or Silvally-Fighting.
  • This set's main use is to break down common walls in the ZU metagame such as Gourgeist-Super or Bronzor to open holes in the opponent's team, which Toucannon's teammates can take advantage of.
  • U-turn should be used when you predict a Steel-type to switch into Toucannon. This can be paired with a Magnet Pull user like Probopass to get rid of said Steel-types, which can be used to make Brave Bird usage more free for Toucannon.
Team Options

  • A Pokemon that can effectively check Electric-types is key as Toucannon has an overall bad match-up with Pokemon of that type. Examples of these include Electivire, Golem, and Silvally-Ground.
  • To safely switch Toucannon in, it needs a U-turn or Volt Switch user. Examples of these in the ZU metagame include Komala, Electivire, and Silvally-Fighting. (Komala's relevant U-turn sets that aren't OO also unfortunately compete with Toucannon and stack team weaknesses, making it not the best example.)
  • Toucannon can be an effective choice on Sticky Web teams thanks to its slow but not too slow speed tier and high power. If one chooses to use Toucannon on such builds, a Sticky Web setter such as Shuckle, Masquerain, or Smeargle is necessary. However, one must note that Toucannon fails to outspeed Floatzel after Sticky Web, even with a Jolly nature.
  • Due to Toucannon's low speed and below average bulk, it appreciates having bulky teammates that can take on offensive threats in the metagame more easily. Examples of these include Kecleon, Muk, and Komala. (Kecleon isn't necessarily the best example, as it tries to occupy the same role that Toucannon does. Silvally-Water would be a good example here, as it does a good job of checking Floatzel while maintaining momentum in order to get Toucannon back in.)
Forgot to mention that this needed to be a point earlier, but the two relevant Magnet Pull Pokemon in ZU make for good partners because of their ability to remove Steel types while enabling Toucannon to fit U-turn more easily.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • A Specially based Mixed Attacker set can be used with Boomburst/Overheat Heat Wave/Bravebird/Bullet Seed, allowing it wallbreak without having to rely too much on Brave Bird, but suffers from a worse matchup with Gourgeist-Super and Bronzor.
  • A Choice Scarf set can be utilized to let Toucannon do better against a lot of offensive threats in the metagame, but its speed tier even with a Choice Scarf is underwhelming, and it fails to outspeed a lot of other common Choice Scarf users like Electivire. (Floatzel should be mentioned as the biggest reason why Choice Scarf isn't optimal, as being 1 point slower than one of the most significant offensive threats in the metagame despite holding a Choice Scarf is brutal in terms of set viability.)
  • Rock Blast offers coverage against Rotom-S, Crustle, and Shuckle, while doing better overall damage to Altaria, but it is rather inaccurate and otherwise doesn't provide too great of coverage. (Rock Blast isn't particularly inaccurate in a notable manner. The coverage it provides is also decent, just suboptimal.)
  • Roost can be used to heal off some recoil damage from Toucannon, but Toucannon's fragility makes it a risky option, especially when it requires giving up one of Toucannon's coverage moves.
  • Flyinium Z can be used to make Brave Bird into a powerful Supersonic Skystrike that lacks recoil, but makes Toucannon's other moves weaker overall.
  • Swords Dance can be used to make Toucannon even stronger, but Toucannon is much too slow and frail to effectively set up.
  • Choice Band allows Toucannon to hit insanely hard, but makes it very prediction-reliant as well.

Checks and Counters

**Electric-types**: Electivire, Raichu, and Zebstrika all outspeed Toucannon even when not using a Choice Scarf and easily KO it.

**Steel-types**: While Toucannon can easily weaken Metang and Bronzor thanks to Knock Off, its 4MSS means it can lack coverage against Probopass, Mawile, or even both.

**Faster Pokemon**: Low speed and bulk means that if any offensive Pokemon outspeeds Toucannon, it will likely do a major dent to it or even KO it outright. Choice Scarf users like Abomasnow, Chatot, or Swanna, and Pokemon such as Floatzel and Rapidash are major concerns in this regard. (Choice Scarf in particular doesn't make these Pokemon relevant as threats, it's just that they're faster and able to threaten Toucannon. Abomasnow also has an equivalent speed stat, so it shouldn't be mentioned. Choice Band Komala should also be an example here, being slightly faster than Toucannon and able to either OHKO it or U-turn to gain momentum.)

  • A great attack stat, a powerful STAB move in Brave Bird, and solid coverage moves such as Bullet Seed, Knock Off, and Brick Break allow Toucannon to break through various walls in the ZU metagame. It also has a pretty okay Special Attack stat, allowing it to use moves like Overheat.

More on about Skill Link and Bullet Seed, it's really important to emphasize the fact that Toucannon is the only Flying-type/attacker that Golem otherwise threatens that has the ability to break through Golem without fear of Sturdy. Even Swanna, Abomasnow, Raichu, Simisear, etc. would have to fear the trade of breaking its Sturdy at full at the cost of being OHKOed in retaliation. Golem is also one of the most prevalent rockers in the tier, so it's absolutely relevant to make a point of this.

Moves
========
  • Brave Bird is the STAB of choice on this set, allowing it to break through Gourgeist-Super while still being very strong overall. It is rather hard to switch into, seeing as even some common resists for the move can be chunked decently by it.
  • Bullet Seed is used against bulky Rock- and Water-types such as Pyukumuku and Golem, breaking through the latter's Sturdy ability, and getting benefit from Skill Link. It's also worth specifying that it breaks through Focus Sash Kadabra in a single hit. Yes, Kadabra is faster, but it does not OHKO Toucannon. This also can come into play if you're running Webs, where you'd be faster either way.
  • Knock Off allows Toucannon to get rid of items such as Eviolite from Pokemon like Bronzor or Mareanie, allowing them to be worn down far easier. It can also 2HKO common Bronzor variants in general.
  • U-turn uses Toucannon's offensive presence to gain momentum for its team.
  • Brick Break can be used to hit Probopass, which otherwise completely walls this set.
  • Overheat is used to hit Mawile as well as weakened Gourgeist-Super, due to it being much safer to use when compared to Brave Bird.

  • Life Orb increases Toucannon's damage output while allowing it to switch moves, the latter of which being huge for this set. This is considered fluff by analysis standards unless you can offer information about what sort of KOes that Life Orb can allow, which the natures appear to already do.
  • 29 HP IVs give Toucannon the benefit of less recoil damage from Life Orb and less damage from Stealth Rock.
Usage Tips
========

This can be paired with a Magnet Pull user like Probopass or Alolan Golem to get rid of said Steel-types, which can be used to make Brave Bird usage more free for Toucannon.
Team Options
========
Examples of these in the ZU metagame include Monferno, Electivire, and Silvally-Fighting. Monferno as a leading example for a teammate is rather strange given that it's not an active presence in the metagame and its current optimal set (SD Fightium Z) can't really afford to opt for U-turn. You'll find that Komala is a more optimal mention given that Toucannon appreciates it baiting in Gourg-XL and Phys Def Golem for it to take advantage of. AV sets can also spin to remove rocks and cushion hits from certain special attacking revenge killers.
  • A Magnet Pull user such as Probopass or Alolan Golem can be used to eliminate Pokemon such as Mawile or opposing Probopass, which when this set uses U-turn as the fourth move, wall Toucannon outright.
Examples of these include Silvally-Water, Muk, and Bronzor.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • A Specially based Mixed Attacker set can be used with Boomburst/Heat Wave/Bravebird/Bullet Seed, allowing it wallbreak without having to rely too much on Brave Bird, but suffers from a worse matchup with Gourgeist-Super and Bronzor. (The comment about Gourgeist-Super isn't particularly accurate in a relevant way, as it still 2HKOes it and doesn't mind burn nearly as much.)
  • A Choice Scarf set can be utilized to let Toucannon do better against a lot of offensive threats in the metagame, but its speed tier even with a Choice Scarf is underwhelming, and it fails to outspeed a lot of other common Choice Scarf users like Electivire. Most notably, however, it fails to outspeed Floatzel, one of the most common offensive threats in the metagame.
  • Rock Blast offers coverage against Rotom-S, Crustle, and Shuckle, while doing better overall damage to Altaria. (but suboptimal coverage otherwise)

===================

**Electric-types**: Electivire, Raichu, and Zebstrika all outspeed Toucannon even when not using a Choice Scarf and easily KO it.

In this regard, Pokemon such as Swanna, Rapidash, Floatzel, and Choice Band Komala are major concerns.

A great attack stat, a powerful STAB move in Brave Bird, and solid coverage moves such as Bullet Seed, Knock Off, and Brick Break allow Toucannon to break through various walls in the ZU metagame. It also has a pretty okay Special Attack stat, allowing it to use moves like Overheat. With access to Bullet Seed in particular, it can break through Golem, which many other attackers in the tier struggle to do. However, Toucannon's 60 base Speed isn't the best speed tier to have and is outsped by a lot of Pokemon in the ZU metagame, namely Electivire, Floatzel, and Zebstrika. In particular, most Volt Switch users outspeed Toucannon and can easily force it out. It's pretty frail as well, and with its Stealth Rock weakness and reliance on recoil moves it can get worn down quite quickly. Lastly, it faces competition with Pokemon such as Choice Band Komala and Electivire as a wallbreaker, the former due to having much greater bulk and immunity to status, and the latter for having a great ability in Motor Drive, significantly better super effective coverage, and much better Speed.

Moves
========

Brave Bird is the STAB of choice on this set, allowing it to break through Gourgeist-Super while still being very strong overall. It is rather hard to switch into, seeing as even some common resists for the move can be chunked decently by it. (Remove the explanation about Brave Bird, explaining STAB moves is considered fluff since they are pretty straightforward moves) Bullet Seed is used against bulky Rock- and Water-types such as Pyukumuku and Golem, breaking through the latter's Sturdy ability, breaking through Focus Sash on Pokemon such as Kadabra, and getting benefit from Skill Link. Knock Off allows Toucannon to get rid of items such as Eviolite from Pokemon like Bronzor or Mareanie, allowing them to be worn down far easier. It can also 2HKO common Bronzor variants in general. U-turn uses Toucannon's offensive presence to gain momentum for its team. Alternatively, Brick Break can be used to hit Probopass, which otherwise completely walls this set. Overheat is used to hit Mawile as well as weakened Gourgeist-Super, due to it being much safer to use when compared to Brave Bird.

Set Details
========

Skill Link is the ability of choice to make it so Bullet Seed can hit 5 times, allowing it to viably break down targets of the move. An Adamant nature allows Toucannon to always OHKO Gourgeist-Super after Stealth Rock, as well as hit Altaria after it has used Roost, though Physically Defensive Altaria can abuse this. On the other hand, a Jolly nature allows Toucannon to speed tie with Abomasnow and outspeed Altaria before it can use Roost, though it is much less effective at wallbreaking. A Naughty or Naive nature can be used if Overheat is used in the 4th moveslot as to not lower its damage output too much, in exchange for lowering Toucannon's already poor Special Defense. To safely switch Toucannon in, it needs a U-turn or Volt Switch user. Examples of these in the ZU metagame include Komala, Electivire, and Silvally-Fighting. Mention Probopass and Golem-Alola up here instead since they are also excellent slow volt switch users who can also trap steel-types for Toucannon, "Probopass and Golem-Alola in particular are able to bring Toucannon in safely with a slow Volt Switch while also being able to trap Steel-types such as Mawile with Magnet Pull." A Pokemon that can effectively check Electric-types is key as Toucannon has an overall bad match-up with Pokemon of that type. Examples of these include Electivire, Golem, and Silvally-Ground. In general, Toucannon is one of the biggest baits for Volt Switch from the majority of these Pokemon in the whole metagame. **Steel-types**: While Toucannon can easily weaken Metang and Bronzor thanks to Knock Off, its 4MSS means it can lack coverage against Probopass, Mawile, or even both. Mention Bronzor first since it is more relevant to the metagame than Metang

**Faster Pokemon** **Revenge Killers**: Low speed and bulk leaves Toucannon susceptible to revenge killers. means that if any offensive Pokemon outspeeds Toucannon, it will likely do a major dent to it or even KO it outright. In this regard, Pokemon such as Swanna, Rapidash, Floatzel, and Choice Band Komala are major concerns.

Rename this to Revenge Killers, there are technically faster pokemon than Toucannon that don't beat it.

@ writer I saw you implement the amcheck halfway through. I'm working off of it because I already started but in general if a GP member leaves a placeholder, implementing other checks while they work isn't the best.

also the amcheck isn’t official so isn’t 1/2. my check is 1/2

Moves
========

Bullet Seed is used against bulky Rock- and Water-types such as Pyukumuku and Golem, breaking through the latter's Sturdy ability. It can also break through Focus Sash on Pokemon such as Kadabra and benefits from Skill Link.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

This set's main use is to break down common walls in the ZU metagame such as Gourgeist-Super Gourgeist-XL, Golem, and Bronzor to open holes in the opponent's team, which its teammates can take advantage of.

========

To safely switch Toucannon in, it needs a U-turn or Volt Switch user. Probopass and Alolan Golem in particular are able to bring Toucannon in safely with a slow Volt Switch while also being able to trap Steel-types such as Mawile with Magnet Pull. A Pokemon that can effectively check Electric-types, such as Electivire, Golem, and or Silvally-Ground, is key, as Toucannon has an overall bad matchup with Pokemon of that type.

Other Options
=============

Toucannon has a decently sized movepool that allows for includes some alternative options. Rock Blast offers coverage against Rotom-S, Crustle, and Shuckle (RC) while doing and does better overall damage to Altaria. Lastly, Choice Band allows Toucannon to hit insanely hard (RC) but makes it very prediction reliant (RH) as well.

Checks and Counters
===================
