Trapping moves usable?

I dont mean moves or abilities mean look/arena trap or shadow tag,but the moves like firespin/wrap/clamp/bind etc.
In theory these moves are better than mean look because they do damage now and in between turns while still trapping your opponent. I know most of these moves have accuracy of 85 or less and do low damage but it can work with some pokemon.
Example blissey tries to attack a tentacruel and the tentacruel wraps the blissey, next turn you switch into a pokemon with persuit.

yeah, i always thought those moves are a bit underrated. whirlpool + perish song is the trap killer standard of lapras.

While they might be slightly useful the first time round, once the opponent understands your strategy, it'll result in a wasted moveslot.

Doesn't Rapid Spin still negate these moves?

And I don't think the Wrap family of moves stay in effect when you switch out the Pokémon that used the attack.

The thought of Heatran using a 120 BP STAB move and trapping Blissey so it can't run from Explosion is hard to pass up. Although the 70% accuracy and how alot of Blissey's are running Protect like Obi's makes it harder to pull off. As stated earlier Whirlpool allows Lapras to perish trap.

Example blissey tries to attack a tentacruel and the tentacruel wraps the blissey, next turn you switch into a pokemon with persuit.

Could've switched to the Pursuiter right away if Blissey tried to attack Tentacruel anyway.

Maybe a wrong example of mine but my point is that those moves trap a certain pokemon so they can't switch out, while it still does damage each turn so that they cant heal with leftovers. Mean look is sometimes used on gengar or other ghosts in some builds, so why do people not use these moves a little more.

Because they do not guarantee the trap, Mean Look has 100% accuracy, and is not limited to 5 turns max. (and I don't think 5 turns is guaranteed unless you use Grip Claw, which means sacrificing a more useful hold item.) Furthermore, Mean Look can be passed. And depending on the Pokémon, the wrapping moves damage may not even negate the leftovers recovery.

I believe the reasoning of most players is this:

There are better ways to trap and better ways to negate lefties recovery. And the risk of a 70% acc move that at the very best will semi-trap while dealing minimal damage, is just not worth it.

the damage it does every turn is a certain % of someone's max hp that i forgot and it is probably atleast equal to leftovers healing.
And there are 85 or 75% moves as well that trap a pokemon for some OU pokemon .Like bind with 75% accuracy for tawngrowth or dusknoir, wrap with 85% accuracy for dragonite/milotic/tentacruel. Whirlpool can be used by lot of popular water pokemon.
But i am not promoting those moves because i won't be using those moves unless i am using some kind of wierd movesets on my BL team, but those moves are in my opinion a bit underused while still being situationaly usefull

The main point of using trapping moves is to ensure an Explosion KO, instead of Exploding a Ghost/Steel type switch in... thats what i think...
