Ditto is a great antimeasure to dusk mane as it comes in to revenge it 100% of the time, and forces a switch, and can proceed to maybe even countersweep the opponents team. This can be used in tandem with other soft checkers to dusk to make it so dusk never dares to even setup when it sees ditto in team preview.

Defensive PDon can come in once on any of Dusk Mane's moves and as long as it's at nearly-full HP will live any two hits - or any one +2 hit - without fail. Overheat OHKOs Dusk Mane in return. Faster PDon variants (namely the Rock Polish sets, which generally hit 255 Speed as a bare minimum) can accomplish something relatively similar, living any unboosted hit from Dusk Mane and OHKOing it with a special Fire move or, with significant Attack investment, Precipice Blades. Accuracy can obviously prove problematic as a single miss will probably get you 6-0'd but PDon is about as bog-standard of a Dusk Mane check as you can get, especially since it's on 99% of teams. Its presence alone is generally enough to force Dusk Mane out and as a result you can start getting spicy with your predictions; you can get Rocks up or Toxic something if you're defensive or you can blow something the fuck up if you're offensive.

If you're looking for an actual counter to this fucking thing without relying on something extremely unorthodox that exists solely to counter this set then good luck though.

Defensive PDon Calcs:

0 SpA Groudon-Primal Overheat vs. 0 HP / 8 SpD Prism Armor Necrozma-Dusk-Mane in Harsh Sunshine: 414-487 (123.5 - 145.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 248+ Atk Necrozma-Dusk-Mane Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 56+ Def Groudon-Primal: 318-376 (78.7 - 93%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

+2 248+ Atk Necrozma-Dusk-Mane Searing Sunraze Smash vs. 252 HP / 56+ Def Groudon-Primal: 238-281 (58.9 - 69.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

RP Pdon Calcs:

252+ SpA Groudon-Primal Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 8 SpD Prism Armor Necrozma-Dusk-Mane in Harsh Sunshine: 459-540 (137 - 161.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

248+ Atk Necrozma-Dusk-Mane Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Groudon-Primal: 204-240 (59.8 - 70.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

(EQ always kills at +2 and the Z-move has a notable chance to OHKO at +2 as well).
Can you pick one set and remove the other please, only one set per a person not multiple sets on one pokemon

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Scald
- Slack Off

- Iron Defense

Due to its amazing defenses and typing and the ability not to get struck by a critical hit Mega-Slowbro serves as a very good check to this Dusk Mane set.
Mega-Slowbro can come in on any attack even when Dusk Mane is at +2 due to Swords Dance - Dusk Manes Sunsteel Strike won't do a lot
to Mega-Slowbro and Z-Sunsteel Strike won't OHKO Slowbro-Mega either. Mega-Slowbro is also tank enough to take a +2 Z-Sunsteel Strike into an Earthquake.
In return Mega-Slowbro can Slack Off the damage it took and has a chance to burn Dusk Mane with its Scald, also Mega-Bro can just iron Defense up to neutralize the +2 gained due to Swords Dance
by Necrozma-Dusk Mane.

on a more serious note:
Skarmory completely walls everything and anything Dusk Mane throws at it barring weird heat wave coverage while whittling it down with both Rocky Helmet recoil and Spikes chip, using Iron Defense to withstand even +6 hits in lastmon scenarios. Here comes the great wall that covers most of offensive Necrozma sets! Lunala's great ability, Shadow Shield can even nullify Sunsteel Strike and Searing Sunraze Smash's effect that nullify the opposing mon's ability, and it's good speed makes it outspeed Necrozma-DM easily, the given speed EVS and Timid nature are aimed to outspeed max speed pdon, pogre as well as Ho-oh, the rest are invested into HP and defence, enables it to survive a +2 boosted Searing Sunraze Smash from max attack Necrozma DM as well as roost to max HP after taking a max spA pdon's Eruption and leftovers damage.

Ho-Oh @ Leftovers

EVs: 144 HP / 212 Def / 152 Spe
Impish Nature
- Sacred Fire
- Recover

Defensive Ho-Oh has a great matchup against Necrozma-DM just by its typing alone, letting it resist Sunsteel Strike and be immune to Earthquake. The EVs were optimized so that Ho-Oh can take one Searing Sunraze Smash after Stealth Rock or a +2 Searing Sunraze Smash from full HP and still outspeed it, letting it recover the damage and procced to deal huge damage with Sacred Fire and even burn it. It can also come into it multiple times due to Regenerator negating the damage of Sunsteel Strike if rocks are off the field.

Wash rotom is pretty good with this set honestly. If you need a defogger you can run it or choose something like toxic for support arceus switchin or reflect if you really worry about physical damages. Wisp + fp is all you need to counter ultrznecrozmium sets , 4x resist + eq immune helps check almost all the ground type sweepers in the tier. Also pain split is really broken in this tier with high hp targets so rotom can sustain with more than just leftover recovery. The combination of rotoms typing ability and set i have do not allow rotom to lose to even hax vs a double dance necrzoma.

Gengar-Mega @ Gengarite
Ability: Cursed Body

Timid Nature
- Hex
- Will-O-Wisp
- Sludge Wave
- Taunt

Mega Gengar is a solid check to Necrozma-Mufasa. I chose the Hex set for a specific reason here—Mega Gengar’s Shadow Ball can’t OHKO NDM while it EQs in return. However, Will-O-Wisp makes EQ do 75 maximum, and a 130 BP Hex kills guarenteed. Obviously, Gengar cannot switch in, but it separates itself from others with a unique trait; Necrozma can’t switch out. This can be amazing for every Steel-weak setup sweeper (ahem Life Deer) and it still manages to do well in MUs outside of this, so yeah. Check.

Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Protect
- Flamethrower

Celesteela can be one the most solid checks to DM being immune to Earthquake and resisting Sunsteel Strike. The strategy is simple. All one needs to do is to use leech seed in the first turn and then spam protect and substitute alternately. In the end DM dies a slow death with Celesteela having a considerable amount of hp left thanks to leftovers recovery and leech seed restoring Celesteela's health through the hp sapped from DM. Protect+Substitute combo frustrates DM as Substitute ensures DM can't keep on using swords dance freely and Protect saves a turn assisting the hp exchange. Flamethrower is a good option otherwise Celesteela gets completely walled by Ferrothorn and it helps a bit in this case too.

Check
If it wasn't obvious, then let it be known that a healthy Kyogre can check a vast majority of the common metagame at the moment.

The special attackers with speed do the best here due Primal Kyogre's solid OHKO on them with Origin Pulse, natural Speed advantage on Necrozma, and resistance to Searing Sunraze Smash. If Necrozma boosts Speed, then it fails to KO a healthy Kyogre with any of its common and necessary attacks. If Necrozma boosts its Attack, then the only hope it has is an Origin Pulse miss.

Defensive Kyogre doesn't do as well due to its lack of damage. The only thing it can threaten a healthy Dusk Mane with is a Scald burn, which is enough in some cases due to just how bad a burn is for Dusk Mane. Because of this lack of damage, the Necrozma player can decide to boost in front of Kyogre and hope for a 3/8 roll to KO with SSS after Stealth Rock damage or its equivalent 1/8. The physical attacking Kyogre needs lots of damage in order to check an already boosted Dusk Mane.

Necrozma has ways of getting around Kyogre with its ability to Ultra Burst and use Trick Room with HP investment, so Kyogre should never be the sole answer. Kyogre teams tend to have ways of dealing with a damaged Ultra Necrozma whether it be Marshadow or a Choice Scarf Xerneas. The Trick Room interaction gets a little problematic because the CS Xerneas follow-up doesn't work all of a sudden and the Marshadow will leave your game in a rather nasty situation likely staring down a Groudon or their own Kyogre under Trick Room. There are ways to play around with with your own slower mons and that usually involves taking nasty damage with your own Groudon, but it is something to have in mind if you're going to force damage on Necrozma with Kyogre.

Marshadow @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Spectral Thief

Welcome to Ubers iteration of Victim of the Week. Hopefully this project will help gather information and spread knowledge of checks and counters to popular Pokemon in the tier.

How it works
Each week I will nominate a Pokemon as VotW. You guys will need to nominate a Pokemon to either check or counter the VotW (make sure to state which in post).
The submission phase will last 5 days and the voting phase will last 2 days each cycle.
The "Hall of Fame" will be a ladder system with the winner getting 3 points each week, 2nd place getting 2, and 3rd place getting 1. Plus your sets will be archived.

Rules
1. Follow the definitions for checks and counters in The Smog issue #32.
2. Please make sure to explain the set. Doesn't need to be long just make sure people know why its a check / counter. Preferably with calcs
3. Reservations only last 12 hours, don't john.
4. Different sets of the same Pokemon can be nominated.
5. Don't be toxic, if someone posts a 'bad' set help them out instead of flaming.
6. Make sure Pokemon is on the VR or a viable niche
7. Don't vote for yourself
Te veo en Ou (Landorus) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Sheer Force
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature

After calculating all votes we have a three way tie for first place meaning no runners up this time! bigtalk got the most amount of 3 point votes to make it! Paradise Seeker got the most amount of 2 point votes to make it! Katy did not receive a single 1 point vote and still made it! Congratulations to all of you and as usual the Hall of Fame will be updated.

Week 4's VotW is...

Gastrodon (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Earthquake
- Scald
- Toxic / Clear Smog
- Recover

Walled. It can only use ice beam and eq. That gastrodon can also switch on gengar (when it's not already mega evolved and you can still switch), magearna or some special attackers like groundceus and yveltal if you're careful. It can't do much anything else, so its main utility will be in stall.

252+ Atk Kyogre Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Gastrodon: 136-161 (31.9 - 37.7%) -- 0.3% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
0- SpA Kyogre Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 68-81 (15.9 - 19%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Gastrodon Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Kyogre: 102-120 (29.9 - 35.1%) -- 16.1% chance to 3HKO

Ferrothorn as a counter

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Protect
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip

Ferrothorn, alongside Primal Groudon, is the first thing that comes to mind of any Ubers player when you ask about something to deal with Kyogre. It only gets 4HKOed by Earthquake at best, it deals chip damage with Iron Barbs if it switches into Liquidation, Leech Seeds slowly chips it, gives you an extra recovery, and puts pressure on anything that would want to switch in, Spikes is just great in general and Ferrothorn gets it for free against Kyogre, Protect gets you one extra turn for recovery every two turns, making Earthquake even harder to KO (it start to not even become a guaranteed 5HKO, and that's without Leech Seed), and Power Whip has a chance to directly OHKO Kyogre after Stealth Rock. All of those things combined not only makes Ferrothorn something that can deal with Kyogre even when it's weakned, but that also doesn't give free switches for most teams when it comes in.

252+ Atk Kyogre-Primal Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Ferrothorn in Heavy Rain: 101-119 (28.6 - 33.8%) -- 97.3% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Kyogre-Primal Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Ferrothorn: 106-125 (30.1 - 35.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

0- SpA Kyogre-Primal Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Ferrothorn: 63-75 (17.8 - 21.3%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Kyogre-Primal: 270-318 (79.1 - 93.2%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

mega-venusaur

Shiny_Mega_Venusaur_XY.png

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP / 180 Def / 76 SpD
Bold Nature
- Leech Seed
- Toxic
- Synthesis
- Grass Knot

Mega-Venusaur
is a niche but good counter against primal-Kyogre as it resists its Liquidation and is able to tank Erathquake and Ice Beam as well.
Ice Beams super effectivness gets negated by Mega-Venusaurs Thick Fat ability and Thunder is completly resisted, whereas mega-Venusaur can either Toxic or just Grass Knot
Primal-Kyogre to either whittle it down via status condition or simply putting out a heavy damage. When Primal-Kyogre wants to switch out, Mega-Venusaur can even target the teammate of Pogre
with a Toxic or a Leech seed. Furthermore when the heavy rain ens, Venusaur-Mega can regain 50% of its health back.

Calcs:
252+ Atk Kyogre-Primal Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 180+ Def Venusaur-Mega in Heavy Rain: 84-99 (23 - 27.1%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Kyogre-Primal Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 180+ Def Venusaur-Mega: 88-104 (24.1 - 28.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
0- SpA Kyogre-Primal Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Thick Fat Venusaur-Mega: 78-94 (21.4 - 25.8%) -- 99.8% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock
0- SpA Kyogre-Primal Thunder vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Venusaur-Mega: 48-56 (13.1 - 15.3%) -- possible 6HKO after Stealth Rock

0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Kyogre-Primal: 204-242 (59.8 - 70.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Latias-Mega @ Latiasite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 4 SpD / 96 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Toxic
- Roost
- Draco Meteor / Grass Knot

Mega Latias avoids the 2HKO from all of physical Primal Kyogre's moves and outspeeds it, so it can come in on pretty much anything, use Toxic, and then Roost stall until the Kyogre user is forced to switch. Once Kyogre is sufficiently weakened it can use Grass Knot / Draco Meteor to pick it off. Liquidation needs 2 defense drops to start doing more than 50% to Latias, so the only relevant hax chance is if you get Thunder para'd/Ice Beam frozen (in which case, it's unfortunately much more likely that Kyogre will break through you, but this applies to all mons that try to switch into ogre). Nominating as a counter

  • 252+ Atk Kyogre-Primal Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 156 Def Latias-Mega in Heavy Rain: 96-113 (26.3 - 31%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
  • 0- SpA Kyogre-Primal Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Latias-Mega: 136-162 (37.3 - 44.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
  • 252+ Atk Kyogre-Primal Liquidation vs. -1 252 HP / 156 Def Latias-Mega in Heavy Rain: 143-168 (39.2 - 46.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

  • 0 SpA Latias-Mega Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Kyogre-Primal: 124-147 (36.3 - 43.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
  • 0 SpA Latias-Mega Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Kyogre-Primal: 154-182 (45.1 - 53.3%) -- 31.3% chance to 2HKO

Resists water stab and with recover / calm mind you will usualy end up at +1 or just murder a kyogre. The rest of the moves dont matter but this is what i would use. I just stole this ev spread from smogon so i guess thats cool and it doesnt get 2hkod by ice beam. Yeah and vote for me XD cuz I guess posting the same support arceus every week is cooler than posting actual checks and counters to sets,, like last week lol !
