Underused Pokemon Matchmaking Phase 2 [Week 29 - Nasty Plot Infernape]

iWanka won with the last minute vote from Colbrushie! (I actually asked him to break the tie, but whatever lol).

This week, I decided on a Fire-type who I haven't used recently, but I absolutely adore for balance teams that need a powerful wallbreaker.

Roserade @ Black Sludge
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Spikes
- Sludge Bomb
- Leaf Storm
- Rest

It's a classic f/g, Roserade help a lot Entei against the bulky waters like Swampert, Suicune & cie, and the rock types. With Spikes, Entei can do more damages with sacred fire/flare blitz, and finish more easily some mons with Extreme Speed. Entei can bypass the Ground type for Roserade. This core is pretty weak to Aerodactyl-M, even if he can't switch in safely due to Stone Edge or Leaf Storm, with this core, i think choose a bulky water like Swampert who can set up the rocks too can be pretty cool.

No fancy 'mons or sets here, but just a classic and strong core. Entei and Mega-Blastoise form a very good wallbreaking core, beating each other's counters.

Entei incinerates special walls (Blissey, Florges) that annoy Blastoise and kills the things that take advantage of the slow turtle: Grass types such as Rotom-C (outspeeding the Timid Specs set), Electric types (Galvantula and the frail Heliolisk get KO'd easily with ES, after some prior damage) and the very annoying Mega-Beedrill. Even if a check switches into Entei, it never appreciates to get burned and crippled.

On the other side, Blastoise beats Ground, Rock, Fire, Dragon mons that love to switch into Entei and physical walls that take little damage from it (Jellicent, Donphan, Slowking, Salamence). But then, why would you use Blastoise over any other Water-type ? Well, Blastoise has access to the coveted Rapid Spin, allowing it to remove the hazards that Entei HATES, while not removing our own hazards (in opposition to Defog). Entei really appreciates that, as it needs SR to get many KO's or 2HKO's.

The advantage of this core is that it is pretty self-sufficient, it doesn't need much help from it team. SR is helpful, cleric support is appreciated but not mandatory. Couple Entei and Mega-Blastoise with a good Grass type that beats Shitcune, such as Roserade or Rotom-C, and you have an excellent core that covers the entire tier.

Wallbreaker core here. I used it a long time ago and it was such a nightmare to deal with for bulky teams. Heracross basically beats everything that Entei doesnt thanks to Guts, allowing Cross to switch into Scald in order to destroy the bulky waters that want to Switch into Entei. Something like Ice beam shuca berry Empoleon is great to support this core as it allows you to deal with Hydreigon and Aero. Whismicott is also a fantastic partner thanks to prio stun spore which deals pretty well with offensive teams. This core puts a ton of pressure on most of the UU teams, hope you like it.

Entei is a complete monster in the current meta. Few things like switching into Choice Banded Sacred Fire, thanks to the high power and destructive burn chance. Extreme Speed is a great tool for cleaning up weakened offensive threats. It's no doubt that Entei is a massive threat every team must be ready for. But what does like switching in anyways? Suicune, Slowking, Mega Blastoise, Alomomola, and Vaporeon. What do all of these lose to? Seems pretty obvious.

Sceptile absolutely destroys a good majority of Entei's supposed checks thanks to its typing. It can also weaken or outright beat Mega Ampharos after sacking something off or getting a switch into Thunderbolt. In return, Entei is able to punish many of Sceptile's checks, such as Florges, Doublade, Whimiscott, Bronzong, and SpD Chesnaught. The two Pokemon also have ways of handling opposing speedy Pokemon, thanks to Entei's Extreme Speed and Sceptile's blistering Speed tier. The core is a bit scared of Curse Snorlax and Arcanine, however.

Entei and Swampert of any flavor go well together. If you're running a rain dance Mega Swampert, Entei (Ada CB ofc) cleans up any threats to Swampert handily. Easily deals with grass and has the natural bulk to switch in on most grass mons a few times. And Swampert tanks anything that hurts Entei. With Mega Pert, you're afraid of scalds to a degree, but your team should have another scald switch in (this is UU, you'd better have a Cune counter). If it's defensive Swampert, it doesn't care and eats scalds for breakfast, along with any other moves that threaten Entei (EQ, Stone Edge, etc). Their typings just pair so well together.

Offensively, edgequake covers most of the spectrum. With rocks variants, Swampert helps get entry damage that move mons closer to Entei's e-speed kill range (I have always viewed Entei as being a very capable cleaner due to how hard e-speed hits). Add in Sacred Burn and you can pressure pretty much anything in the tier. With Rain Dance, Swampert becomes a late game option as well, allowing Entei to focus more on getting Sacred Fire damage on mons so Swampert can sweep.

Beyond this dynamic duo, the team needs some hazard control to keep SR off the field, as it hurts Entei pretty badly. A defog Salamence wouldn't go amiss here. If you're running a Mega Swampert, you need a scald switch in as well. Mandibuzz is a nice choice for that.

Is it exciting? No. They're both fairly commonly played Pokemon and they are already widely considered to be great partners. I'm not re-inventing the wheel here, but if we want to talk about the best pairings with Entei, Swampert definitely deserves some serious consideration.

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Roar

OR

Swampert @ Swampertite
Ability: Damp
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rain Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

(or even the offensive rocks type, but I prefer the above 2)

Entei @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sacred Fire
- Extreme Speed
- Bulldoze / Flare Blitz

Beedrill paired with Entei is usually good for warranting free switch ins for fire doge. Pretty much the only things that want to switch into U-turns from Bedrill, like Doublade or Cobalion, give Entei a free Sacred Fire and kill the U-turn resist or have a good chance to cripple some other switch in with a burn. Kinda weak to fat waters but w/e its not your whole team.

I have a Mega Ampharos, and Entei matchmaking core for you guys today! Here it is! (Hope you like the pictures lol)

Mufasa (Entei) @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sacred Fire
- Extreme Speed
- Stone Edge
- Flare Blitz

Sick Of Fabio (Ampharos-Mega) @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
EVs: 96 HP / 252 SpA / 156 SpD / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Dragon Pulse
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt

This is a great core that involves a defensive pivot, with a choice band attacking Entei, to provide tons of offensive and powerful pressure to the opposing teams. These two actually work really well together, as Ampharos can wall the water attacks that threaten Entei (scald) and can bring Entei in on a slow pivot, and Entei can (wall) some of the ice and fairy attacks that Ampharos is weak to. This set also works very well with Azelf, as it can set up some rocks for more sweep potential for Entei, and ground immunity which both mons are weak too. It also can take out Chandelure with a shadow ball, and bring a good special attacking presence to the team. I hope you liked this quick core I tried a couple of times!

Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Seed Flare
- Earth Power
- Dazzling Gleam / Psychic
- Healing Wish / Synthesis

Hey guys, got another nice match here n_n. Shaymin and Entei have extremely good offensive and defensive synergy. On the offensive side Shaymin can take care of any Bulky Water-Types trying to wall Entei with a very strong STAB Seed Flare and Entei being able to take out any Special Walls like Florges for Shaymin. On the defensive side, Shaymin can take any Water- or Ground-Type attacks aimed at Entei while Entei can take any Fire-Type attacks aimed at Shaymin. But yeah, overall these two have EXTREMELY nice synergy.

Alright, so I'm on mobile and can't images and may or may not get on my laptop to put those in but here she goes:

SMARF (Suicune) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 24 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 228 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Ice Beam
- Calm Mind

#1 doge (Entei) @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Sacred Fire
- Stone Edge
- Flare Blitz

Alright so this core is right off of my of one of my RMT's and it's a dog offense core around CM 3 Atks Cune and CB Entei.
Now these two make a really phenomenal pairing for eachother on offense for several reasons.
Firstly, both of the common sets - Mono attacker Cune- as well as CB Entei run into a lot of common stops, namely being the immense amount of fat shit waters that plague the tier.
Suicune with CM and Hydro, HP Grass and Ice Beam has the ability to lure in and harm those waters like Pert, Gatr and Stoise as they are generally big threats to Entei and offense in general. It also catches other common switchins/checks mono Scald cune like Taunt Hydreigon as well as other Entei checks like Intimidate mence and effectively gets rid of them for it's fellow canine (or whatever species) partner. Another, and probably most important trait that Cune offers is a good check to Aero that avoids being passive as shit like P2. The spread on Cune is for Jolly Mega Pert and other base 70's but could be turned timid to creep 80's like Mams and chand which don't trouble cune regardless.
Next, Entei is marvelous for dealing with some Suicune checks namely being any grass type, special blobs like P2, Bliss, Umbreon, Florges etc that Entei has an absolute field day picking apart with banded Strong Will-Wisps.

As it's only a two-man crew, it can't deal with everything and really appreciates SD hera for extra support vs waters which are hard to kill unless Cune is really boosted up. Anyways this is an extremely fun core to use on offense that catches people off guard and is just very effective in general!

Hi.

Abomasnow & Entei

abomasnow-mega.gif
+
entei.gif

I actually have no idea why this core wasnt taken already. Entei hates Water-types, rocks types (cant switch in on these though, but is a decent enough check), dragon types and ground types. Abomasnow takes care of them all. Abomasnow is also able to get off that 6% chip damage with hail, helping entei wear down its switch ins. And as an added bonus entei can beat down on steel types that give abomasnow trouble (not important here though). Honestly there really isnt much to say other than the fact abomasnow takes care of 90% of the issues entei has lol.
