Diggersby
tumblr_nv3v66dVZF1ruyj56o1_500.gif

Diggersby holds a unique place in SS UU as one of the only truly good Choice Scarf users, thanks to its Huge Power-boosted Attack, Stealth Rock resistance, and access to U-Turn. This allows Diggersby to act as a strong offensive pivot and revenge killer. Its STAB Earthquake and Body Slam hit hard even when resisted, and make Pokemon looking to absorb U-Turns wary about switching into Diggersby. Diggersby is not limited to holding a Choice Scarf, however. On Hyper Offense teams (in particular, Sticky Webs teams) it can run a terrifying Swords Dance set to boost its Attack to devastating levels, and has access to STAB Quick Attack to bypass its somewhat low Speed for an offensive Pokemon. Though rare, Diggersby can also opt to lean entirely into its attacking prowess with a Choice Band set, which has all the perks of the Choice Scarf set (minus the increased Speed) but with absolutely stupendous damage output. Finally, though it can't set them up nearly as reliably as more common Spikers, Diggersby does have access to Spikes, allowing it to lay caltrops on a free turn it may get with its Choiced sets. Diggersby has numerous weaknesses that can stymie its effectiveness, however. It has an atrocious defensive typing, leaving it with only resistances to Rock and Poison and immunities to Ghost and Electric, while being weak to Fighting, Water, Grass, and Ice. This, compounded with Diggersby's mediocre defenses, can make it quite difficult to switch Diggersby into battle. Diggersby is also weak to several priority attacks in UU in Mamoswine's Ice Shard, Azumarill's Aqua Jet, and Conkeldurr's Mach Punch, meaning that its high Speed while using a Choice Scarf can be rendered irrelevant. Diggersby additionally does not appreciate the recent proliferation of Rocky Helmets in UU to deal with Pokemon like Zarude and Scizor, as this limits its longevity significantly. As well, Diggersby's attacks, while strong, also have many common resists or immunities in UU, meaning that once it reveals what move it is locked into (on Choiced sets), it is much easier to force Diggersby out or switch into it safely. Last but not least, for a Choice Scarf user, Diggersby is relatively quite slow, to the point where Adamant vs. Jolly is a legimitate consideration that must be taken into account when using it (Jolly, for example, will outspeed +1 Speed Gyarados, while Adamant will not), and both natures will still be outsped by other Choice Scarfers (such as Jirachi and Hydreigon) and Speed-boosting offensive Pokemon like Autotomize Celesteela, +1 Speed Nihilego, and Venusaur under harsh sunlight. With all that said, Diggersby is still a great Pokemon deserving of a great team, so let's build some!

Teambuilding Restrictions:
  • The team should be built in the Sword and Shield UnderUsed format.
  • The team must include Diggersby.
Submission Deadline:
  • Sunday, June 19, 2022 @ 11:59 PM EST (GMT-4).

:scizor::slowking::zarude::salamence::diggersby::nihilego:

This team wasn't so much built with Diggersby in mind, but it utilizes it's amazing viability as a Scarfer. The greatest thing Digger does for this team is Knock Off the Rocky Helmet of Skarmory, Amoonguss, Hippowdown, or occasionally Cobalion. This makes the life of Zarude so much easier to pivot freely without chip. It also gives Scizor an easier time sweeping late game as it will be getting chipped less often. Dual Wingbeat Scizor is able to nuke Amoonguss after rocks as well eat hits from Zygarde, Nihilego, and other threats with its bulk. Slowking is really the only choice for a defensive pivot paired with Zarude, as I can't add on another Grass-type. It's ability to take hits from Keldeo and Primarina is pivotal. Salamence filled a couple holes which were the Scizor matchup as well as how annoying Spikes Skarmory can be. It also takes a little pressure off Scizor as the Zarude switch in. Nihilego is a much needed switch in to Moltres which has been spammed quite frequently. It's also quite good because it can freely run Grass Knot and pressure Hippowdown which isn't an issue, it's just an annoying Pokemon. Nihi also has the ability to pressure Skarmory and Mandibuzz which is something this team lacks. Over all, this team is a fast paced Bulky Offense that uses Diggersby for immediate power and speed with Scizor as a late game wincon. It's served me well.

I have one replay vs Askov just to show how the team is played. That's all!

SubBU Recycle Starf Diggersby is a hilarious meme that works around Cheek Pouch's ability to let a Starf Berry essentially be a free Iapapa at same time, letting it just go crazy out of control like the above replays potentially. Body Slam done over Eq despite being a bit weaker and struggling with mole cause would like to actually hit stuff like mence/molt/hyd without having to toxic them but its an option definitely to run that and rely on the jirachi poisoning them. Magneton traps the obviously problematic sub id skarm, gives u a bit of a breaker kinda too, mence gives u ground immune + sciz check + breaker stuff, jirachi gives u pivoting + hw support + toxicing some stuff to make set up cleaner, SD eject pack coba kinda heat set that gives you rocks + pivoting that works against hippo for diggs to set up, also means u can fire off a free +2 CC into stuff that you know you might not kill in general and pivot out without being fucked.

Diggersby is SD on a webs team. Great we solved its speed issue.... now i hate having no normal stab so mega kick go brrrrrr, i never miss that is a skill issue that you have to solve if you miss yours. After an SD it even threatens to 2hko skarm which can easily be taken advantage off by thundy-t, celesteela, keldeo, azelf, and even vikavolt (if its still alive by then lol)

Vikavolt is used for "It's massive Special Attack means it easily wipes out most defensive staples, while it's not terrible 77/90/75 bulk means it can trade with some threats once you get up webs. As a setter, it beats or discourages Pokemon like Salamence, Mandibuzz, Rotom-W, Tentacruel, Skarmory, Hatterene, Moltres, Crobat, and even Excadrill from removing or blocking its webs. Some calcs to demonstrate Vikavolt's offensive potential are down below, doing huge damage to defensive Pokemon to at least keep them from switching in. " yeah... that ... vikavolt fucks over skarm and steela which is great for diggersby late game cleaning.

Azelf is used for speed control and is able to setup on many pokemon to clean the game especially with webs support making use of the fact scarf rachi, scarf krook, inteleon, starmie and scarf zarude cannot beat it anymore. It helps to pressure the physical walls that wall diggersby and help weaken slowking, chansey, and umbreon for other members of this team

Keldeo is used for being able to screw over skarmory, it can pressure many physical walls to esp with LO air slashes and hydro pumps being nuclear weakening salamence, tangrowth, slowking, and rotom-w. IT is also used for to pressure chansey and umbreon for the other teammembers.

Celesteela takes advantage of enemy #1 aka being skarmory, is a great pokemon on HO regardless and supports the team with great typing and resistances

Thundy-t fucks skarmory over and is a great pokemon on webs...

you can see how tired and lazy i became as this post went on..

Scarf Diggersby is the mon I built the team around, being a scarfer with a lot of role compression, being a wallbreaker, speed control, volt-absorber, knocker, and pivot all in one. It's main offensive partner here is Thundurus-therian, which can forego knock because of Diggersby. Thundurus handles the main mons that wall Diggersby like Skarmory, Celesteela, and Mence -- Diggersby can knock Mence as well, making it much easier for both it and Thundurus to break down. Hippowdon is the next mon, as a knock absorber that can more effectively use it's defensive utility as a ground than Diggersby, due to Diggersby's weakness to knock/frailty, as well as the rocker of the team. It also carries Whirlwind over Toxic because I'm a bit unsure about the Mbeam Celesteela mu with this team, and while it's probably okay, I don't want to risk the HO mu. Tentacruel pairs well with Hippo as a fantastic switch-in to Keldeo and Primarina, as well as providing hazard removal and being alright into grasses like Amoonguss and helmet-Tangrowth. Zarude provides more offensive support for the team, and serves as a helpful ground/electric resist to support tentacruel defensively, as well as completing a pivot-core with Diggersby and Thundurus. Finally, Celesteela completes the team as the mandatory SD-scizor switchin, as well as helping against Hydreigon and Mamoswine.

Rain
politoed.gif

Rain has been a niche but somewhat successful style as of late. We have seen several structures succeed with rain, but I am going to leave the door wide open for this week in terms of teambuilding. You may find some inspiration from the Pokemon above that are found on rain structures, or choose to add your own. Let's see what you can come up with!

Teambuilding Restrictions:
  • The team should be built in the Sword and Shield UnderUsed format.
  • The team must include at least one Pokemon that can summon rain, either by use of Drizzle and/or Rain Dance.
Submission Deadline:
  • Sunday, June 26, 2022 @ 11:59 PM EST (GMT-4).

This team looks a bit odd in terms of the rain sweepers but I've actually found them to be optimal, and they've had decent success in high ladder. Keldeo is the main reason to use rain, in my opinion, and I dont think I'd use a rain team without it. Stuff like slowking and the shroom stop being answers in the rain, especially if you can keep hazards up. Qwilfish was chosen because it can take advantage of some common pokemon, pressuring them to switch and gaining an sd, or just a free attack. The prio of jet comes in handy more than boom ive found, because sometimes rain ends. Seismetoad gets up rocks and is a ground, plus knocks. scarf rachi hwishes, which helps in many games for this style, plus kills +1 gyara, which we otherwise cant rly beat without losing a lot of stuff. mence is needed to threaten grasses and defog. If you want to fiddle with this more than i already have, the places to start would be toed set (irrelevent), the toad set (fitting pwhip and/or ice punch could be good especially if you go life orb), and mence moves (draco?). In its current state tho, the team still wins games.

:politoed: :keldeo: :seismitoad: :amoonguss: :cobalion: :salamence:

standard politoad which helps to set rain and wear down some mons with toxic and give setup opportunities with encore. Keldeo is using a LO to setup CM when given the opportunitiy while still firing nuclear hydro pumps in the rain, LO is used to make the mence MU less fishy after a CM. Seismitoad is the teams rocker and can get free turns to setup rocks on pokemon it would force out such as many offensive pokemon, moltres, rotom-h, chandelure, etc. Amoonguss is the def pokemon on the team and it can spore to give free switches, eject button allows keldeo, seis, coba, and mence to come in freely. Coba is to setup on pokemon such as slowking, av tang, amoonguss to make sure the team isnt getting taken advantage of by then, it also deters knock off spam due to justified propelling its attack to sky high levels especially after a swords dance. Salamence is just abusing it and can help keldeo muscle through grass types

Shoutout pinkacross and storm zone the OU goats as I made this team a while ago to be a UU version of a rain team they made for OU that I was enjoying a lot at the time. Flip turn choice band kingdra is just funny and hitting outrage can be a good end game sweeper. Tornadus and Heliolisk actually feel really good as breakers as well since they can pressure a lot of things in the meta that Kingdra doesn't necessarily like. Seismitoad is rocker/backup sweeper and Dhelmise is to prevent chip and doesn't have to fear fire types as much due to rain. If you ever run rain I'd recommend Heliolisk I think this set is really slept on.
