Rules

• Follow all rules listed here.​
• Schedule via Smogon VMs. It's easier for me to make decisions for activity calls when I can actually see what went down with scheduling.​
• If you are unable to schedule with your opponent, please let your managers know ASAP so they can communicate that to me or the other team's managers for a potential substitute.​
• Substitutions may be made after a week has started. When making a substitution, please tag myself, the managers of the opposing team, and all of the players affected by the substitute to ensure that everyone is made aware. Players who have already played in the week or were subbed out in the same week cannot be subbed back in.​
• If a match remains incomplete by the time of the deadline, it will be subject to an activity call.​
• Replays are mandatory. Not only are they useful for confirming wins, they contribute to usage stats and allow the people who couldn't watch the games live to watch them later.​
• Managers: Please send me your lineups in the same format that I used to post pairings. It makes it much easier to post future rounds more quickly.​

Actual predicts based on the tiers I know and not just yap, please do not take any offense/take anything personally as predicts are always more of a primer for the games and never 100% set in stone. I will also be including the highlight game of the week in my view, which does not "necessarily" have to be the most competitive match on paper, but rather the most interesting one based on a number of factors.

I will be ignoring the Drizzlers vs. Durians for obvious reasons, but my influence will be in the builder and prep as much as the slots I support want it to be(which could be 100% of building, or none at all depending on player request. Have fun with that).

LHF's analysis on the three most ignored Ubers tiers in this entire pool(sometimes for good reason):

ADV Ubers Predicts

ADV Ubers: a quylthulg vs 64 Squares - Interesting matchup on paper. 64 mainly only returns to this tier when he's needed for UPL, but he is by no means a weak player in it, both tier wise and just overall clicking ability . Quylthlug has the Mainer difference as well as ff2 to help support in the builder, whereas while 64 could test with people like Indulge and Plague who know how to click I don't really see it happening. Without saying too much about either's style, I would be surprised if this game goes below 60 turns. Hard to predict because I think 64 is a stronger player but Quylthlug knows the tier more intimately + has higher quality support in their manager who will actively be involved both in the builder and in tests.

ADV Ubers: MMII vs Quarante8 - ADV Ubers can be volatile at times and invalidate any prediction, but this is the only tier MMII focuses on, he has strong fundamentals and is one of the few people who genuinely pushes new ideas in the builder. 48 is a strong ADVer as a whole but does not think about this tier during off-season(aka whenever tours are not on), whereas MMII has been actively involved in the tier for almost a decade if not longer. MMII is one of the most exciting players to watch in ADV because he is a notoriously methodical player who isn't afraid to try something new if he thinks he can get away with it. If he doesn't throw in the builder or get lucked, very confident he'll win.

ADV Ubers: THE_CHUNGLER vs Heysup: I'm sorry, you thought I was flattering MMII too much? If I consider MMII to be the most methodical builder, Heysup is the most vibe-based builder of them all. I am easily Heysup's biggest fan in the builder(and sometimes watching game chat can be funny too). Very few people can use teams like Heysup does. My impression of having studied his teams over some time is that he's willing to just full send it in the builder; sometimes they'll look like orthodox brings that try to cover a number of matchups, and sometimes he'll just say "fuck it we ball" and load things that disregard specific matchups but win anyway because he's Heysup. I don't think there's anyone more comfortable fishing in this tier than Heysup, but because he understands the game so well he can just afford to do that; sometimes the unique brings backfire but he has a strong track record with them. None of this is to take away from Chungler, who is a good friend of mine and a competent clicker, but Heysup is a one man army in the builder while this is Chungler's first ever attempt at playing the tier without a Mainer in his ear(ff2, myself) to help talk through, support and validate his choices. This is a very sink or swim pool for Chungler and I am very excited to watch how he approaches this tier.

ADV Highlight of the week: Heysup vs. Chungler. No matter what happens it's worth tuning in for. Without either having support in the builder, you will see a veteran player's vision of the tier vs. an up and comer's, with neither having a completely surefire style that you know they're going to bring.

GSC Ubers Predicts

GSC Ubers: spell vs Indulge in dreams - Indulge knows how to click in a tier where the builds are mostly established and we shouldn't see too many surprises. Meanwhile I really don't know how experienced spell is with not just GSC, but also GSC Ubers. I'm not saying it should be a one sided stomp, but I think spell is an underdog here on paper.

GSC Ubers: BigFatMantis vs vani: Super titan fight off the rip. Vani is an easy bold if you want to talk purely on overall mastery with GSC Ubers, but BFM is a GSC lower tier titan, constant grinder of the game, and is a huge headache to prepare for in the builder for any GSC tier. While GSC Ubers is the most "solved" when compared to any of these other LTs, BFM is not afraid to do what he thinks will win. I'm bolding Vani off name clout but I can easily be wrong here. Probably the "intellectual" highlight of the week.

GSC Ubers: Conflict vs. Waruchuu: The universally beloved Waruchuu has the biggest challenge put in front of him from the start. He will have to shake off the rust FAST if he wants to fight who many(would correctly) estimate to be the strongest in the pool*. Conflict is known for bringing fun ideas to games he feels confident in, but I doubt his managers are going to let him run Magcargo or something along those lines to start the tour off. Everyone with a soul wants Waru to win his return to the tier, but the logical pick is Conflict here. Expect this to be the most watched game of the week.
*(I think Vani can easily be on Conflict's level on any given day, but I digress...)

GSC Highlight: BFM vs. Vani should be some high quality GSC with genuine uncertainty of what either is going to bring to start the tour. I'm not even that confident in my own predict here.

RBY Ubers Predicts

RBY Ubers: BlazingDark vs Unowndragon: UD's track record in this tier speaks for itself and has the True RBY Mainer Difference whereas to my knowledge BD plays a bunch of things as a generalist. I would be lying if I knew how comfortable BD is in this tier, but I know he can click and as long as he has access to competent pastes and replays he will put up a fight in this pool if he wants to put the work in(I say wants to because even just looking at his profile for five seconds shows he's in like 20 million other tours too). But to start, I am going to pick the established name and play it safe.

RBY Ubers: hammer798 vs royzin: Did you know that royzin won THE GREATEST RBY UBERS SPOTLIGHT OF ALL TIME by defeating THE_CHUNGLER and gastlies (free ping) after MULTIPLE BRACKET RESETS by act and dropout respectively? Anyway, if you read commencement you know I'm a huge fan of what hammer brings to the table as an RBY LTer, and I know he's going to work hard to make the Dialgas' investment in him worth it. For the first week of the tour though, I'm going to be conservative and pick Royzin because I do think he's got the stronger understanding of the tier right now. Give hammer time(no pun intended) and I expect him to only get stronger.

RBY Ubers: GirlsSeeGhosts vs NotVeryCake - Cake has the RBY ubers larp buff and GSG is more of an OU main than he'll ever be an Ubers player. While of course this tier can swing either way, I trust Cake to make tighter reads than GSG after a jank turn or two.

Highlight of the week: BeeOrSomething vs. Fruhdazi. Yes I'm cheating by picking my teammate's game here; no I do not care. Extreme levels of shittalk and/or larp should be expected over this bo3, making it the highlight of the week. I don't even know if Dazi will listen to any RBY advice or if he's gonna bulldoze it solo, which adds extra intrigue.

Welcome to the second annual edition of the unofficial armchair team rankings! By request of FatFighter2 and other users I have decided to rank UPL teams, purely from an unbiased spectator POV. I have ranked every pool individually (except for SV which was done by my good friend Lana) and tallied up points corresponding to each starter's position in said pool, but I will not be sharing the individual pool rankings, that's up to you guys to speculate or figure out based on the overall rankings, which are as follows:

RBY Ubers: BeeOrSomething vs Shitrock enjoyer - Dam bro they told me rby ubers was cooked and then the very first matchup u see is banger of the century. We got 2 one trick ponies up here. There signature trick is winning games of Pokemon. This is pretty dead 50-50. I’m predicting bee to get the rng this time around. My word of advice to the competitors, don’t forget to cook. Make me proud.

BlazingDark vs Unowndragon - UD is on a roll rn after picking a big dub in the most recent OU ssnl. Not really sure what to expect from BD, but I wouldn’t doubt he brings the heat. Gonna go with the guy who’s been signing up for rby tours since you could still paralyze normals with body slam.

hammer798 vs royzin - ngl i actually think Roy is favored here but gonna bold my friend and West coast connection. Hammer, idk what ur doing here pal but try to remember that amnesia is like 2 calm minds

GirlsSeeGhosts vs NotVeryCake - yo where the fuck is gastlies smh we call this big time slacking but anyhow LMAO gsg in Ubers they really will let just anybody play rby kek. Jokes aside this is another highlight matchup and I have a feeling gsg will be sneakily annoying in this tour. He will load samples and click good enough to be in a lot of games. Then he will get the Canadian luck boost and pack it up. HOWEVER, cake is probably my highest rated player in this tournament off rip. Only problem is cake will have some games she deadass loads garbage and loses before clicking anything. You make me so proud, the ctown way. Gonna go with cake here but excited to watch my friends duke it out. Gl both.

I’ll admit, hybone’s got a tiny bit of skill in LC and old gens OU. But sadly, this is Ubers — and as the world’s dumbest, most useless broken bone, he’ll probably get one-shot. That said, not long ago this stupid bone bone actually lasted over 10 turns against me, so… hey, maybe he still has a chance.

Gather round, all, for I have a story. But whether or not you're ready to hear this tale, crafted over 30 minutes and a lo mein dinner, is a question you'll have to answer for yourself.

The Future of the ADV Ubers Metagame

The year is 202x.

All players have devolved to running a couple of booms + Lati + a primal of choice and an ESpeeder. At first it started as a joke, social commentary if you will on the declining average attention span. Games are quick, simple and easy.

But something odd happens. Yes indeed, because games are moving faster, more and more people are clicking the rematch button, which increases the total number of games played on the server.

The demand is there; how could the numbers lie? A permanent ladder is established, much to the delight and chagrin of players. And from this ladder, many memes were made as a result, which catches the attention of r/stunfisk. This then spirals into a Jimothy Cool video, where this is in fact determined to be "insane, folks." Continuing on this theme, BKC ends up making a 40 minute rant about the state of the tier, often pausing to muse about various Michael Bay films that a random sentence reminded him of.

The ADV Ubers game count exploded overnight as more players were more and more interested in playing faster games.

Life goes on, and the old guard move on. The gentlemanned version of the tier, the memes, and in-group jokes eventually spiral into something far more sinister. Eventually, there were barely any players left who remembered how to build a competent team with any move OTHER than explosion.

In fact, they could not remember a time when anything else ever existed.

Groudon, Kyogre, Latios and Latias - once the focal points of the entire tier - were no longer considered viable.

The dark ages begin.

You must understand, Big Boomers will not allow for any slow paced matches to be had. Anyone found to be using any Heal Bells are the first to be perma'd. Then they came for the Thunder Wave users, and then the Toxic users*.

*A smarter man than I might say that this in fact made THEM the toxic users. But a wiser man than I would also keep his mouth shut, for fear that he, too, would be perma'd.

But we must return to our atlas tale. ADV Ubers tours explode in both relevancy and frequency due to this new sudden find, with all other tiers slowly dwindling away in relevancy until only ADV Ubers remains. "Any1 ADV" becomes the most spammed phrase on the site, and this time, EVERYONE knows it means Ubers instead of OU.

Gengar is swiftly banned by the Boomers, on the grounds that despite being an Explosion user, it can ALSO block any Self-Destruct or Explosion user on switchin, destroying the solved nature of the game. This change happens just after the finals of the ADV Ubers Open are announced, in which the eventual winner is perma'd for "Ghosting" in the literal and metaphorical sense.

The Boomers smile. Their work is almost done.

Still, one final chapter remains.

The optimized state of the metagame post Gengar results in perpetual ties, which in ADV do not count as a win or a loss. When tour hosts see that no win posts have been submitted, they go to Smogtours and find that each and every tour participant is stuck in an endless loop of booms.

A conference is held amongst PS! staff. Ties are now considered to be an equal state of winning and losing, because not even Smogtours AND main combined can handle the Explosion of match requests going on.

The Boomers smiled. They had won.

Of course in the dark times, there's still some good to be found. Due to the redefining of the rules, everyone manages to win a custom, creating a boom(no pun intended) in the creator/drawing commission economy due to all the extra tour wins. The question of will you win a CA becomes moot; the question is what team you will be drafted to, and thus what mascot you will get to have. Smogon University, the now most popular institution on all of Planet Earth, receives copious amounts of funding.

There was one user who didn't like what had become of their beloved ADV Ubers though.

Ever the stall master, quylthulg was given a warning after mentioning the Forbidden One, Blissey, in #teambuilding channels. They were old enough to remember a time when double switching, "leftovers", and "recovery moves" existed.

While at first they tried to adapt, they could not stand by as their beloved Blissey was obsolete. Some say that they've been developing Lucky Punch Chansey technology and are trying to bribe the council to return the blobs to the metagame due to Metronome technically being able to pull Explosion, but this is always behind closed doors. How they have managed to escape the fate of being perma'd is beyond human comprehension, leading to many questions that still do not have answers. Some say that a user by the name of "Regimineral" has been aiding them in escaping certain doom. Others would say "Roma II" has a hand in it. Li Xiao Long has been rumored to offer assistance via the 20% proc of "Quick Claw", which as we all know is actually 100% proc usage. He himself avoids capture by saying he actually doesn't care about this game, using Pokopia and Hitman as a convincing cover story.

Time will tell if the metagame manages to return to what it once was. quylthulg has nothing but time, as a true stall lord. But only one thing is known for sure:

Even in the eternal tiebreaker era of ADV Ubers, the Ubers discord is still self-reacting, checkmarking, and Wigglyslapping to this day.
