Rules
  • Follow all rules listed here.
  • Schedule via Smogon VMs. It's easier for me to make decisions for activity calls when I can actually see what went down with scheduling.
  • If you are unable to schedule with your opponent, please let your managers know ASAP so they can communicate that to me or the other team's managers for a potential substitute.
  • Substitutions may be made after a week has started. When making a substitution, please tag myself, the managers of the opposing team, and all of the players affected by the substitute to ensure that everyone is made aware. Players who have already played in the week or were subbed out in the same week cannot be subbed back in.
  • If a match remains incomplete by the time of the deadline, it will be subject to an activity call.
  • Replays are mandatory. Not only are they useful for confirming wins, they contribute to usage stats and allow the people who couldn't watch the games live to watch them later.
  • Managers: Please send me your lineups in the same format that I used to post pairings. It makes it much easier to post future rounds more quickly.

Welcome to a post that no one has asked for. I’m bored af, spent like 5 more hours on trains today than I needed to, bc mta is being a [redacted]. So let’s get right to it.

ADV UBERS WEEK 1 RECAP:

This game was lowk over on like turn 6/7. Looking at both teams on paper, I probably would say chungler’s bring was marginally better. It definitely highrolled god mu here ngl, heysup mag into no steel means he kinda plays 5v6, and heysup brought an interesting weatherless team with cb bird lead which was cool ig. When i saw it was double ch with deo a i kinda knew there would be a mag in the back otherwise you just press x in a lot of mu lol. Chungler’s team is a m2 lead double primal offense where your form of hazard control is outplaying the fuck out of the opponent and pressing buttons. When you see its subsalac hpgdon, it makes a lot of sense why chung booms t2 with his bu m2 (great set btw). Ngl i find it funny that bc heysup didnt bring a primal all chung’s lati did was come in on deo a and press recover. I asked heysup once for weird wincons and he said agiliechi gross, so that was cool i guess. I have to say that this ver of double primal off has zero bug resist, zero flying resist, zero normal resist, you get the point. If you just have one spike on your side of the field, you basically cant switch into anything tbh LOL, like just imagine a dclaw latios or smth (obv heysups team needs it to be tias bc of the structure)
Ok so the lax ditto basically decides the game, again its funny that bc of the team heysup brought chung’s lati did nth, usually when a fatfuck2 is removed from the field your lati gets to go ham. I should also say that heysup missing a mash kinda sucked, if he hits i doubt chung would just setup, etc. from that pt its still in chung’s favor but worth pting out ig. It was super rough, ig heysup’s only out was sacking mag to ogre t18, then critting everything/winning potential tie (im too lazy to calc whos using what spread) with banded espeed.
Cool win from chungler who i assume is playing his first game in upl? Sry if i got it wrong lol

Okay i think it’s pretty interesting that i saw two games and four teams without spikes. Ironically i think 3/4 teams hate spikes but ig they got a good call on mu? T1 mm2 pressing focus punch kinda reveals its not heramag cuz imo if you have mag you go to it instead, anyways. Its an interesting team mm2 brought with cbhera, dd ray, and bslam rachi w/ twave don so he can nuke shit with hera/not let his opp play the game w 2 rock sliders. His don and tar both being lefties means they get statused once and its rough, etc. I cant say im the biggest fan of this team, maybe there was some mu he wanted to call or theres some tech i dont see on it that makes it great. Meanwhile q8’s team has 4 ghost weak mons and a bliss and an ogre. I guess your defense against like subcm m2/rachi is lscreen bliss and never ever getting crit w/ using pressure. One thing that I found weird abt the game was that lugia was slower than hera. I kinda don’t think the game is worth talking abt beyond that, sure mm2 didnt get a crit in 70 turns but idk how much it would help lmao, anyways good job by q8

Okay aj brought starmie stall. With ff2 and evu as his manager no one cudda ever seen ts coming. I guess no lati is interesting, stuff like spout ogre cud be troublesome, just avoid getting crit. 64 brought a lead tox m2 (cool ig) offense w metalax don tar, aka anti superman team. Yeah idk maybe your hazard control is like oheat don, hp fire meta, taunt tar/m2 or smth along with outplaying the fuck outta the opp but im not sure if that rly works. This type of team 64 brought is probably what mmii wanted to hit with hera lmao, zero resist. Ironically subsalac don puts in work against this too since no espeeder but it’s aj so ig it makes sense not caring abt that. The first 2 turns of the game were interesting from 64, but tbh i think he either needed to like crit 3 mons or get every turn right to win this mu lol gj to aj

So drizzlers already lost week when this game happened, maybe raph’s bring wudda been diff. Maybe. He rolls up with big bandar, and rolls into skarmgar where no mons are faster than 350. I just wanna say that maybe protect lead don isnt the best idea, again maybe theres some tech that makes it great but i dont see it. The tias revealed dclaw so i assume its cm set ofc. Feel like this team has some similar issues as q8’s team. The game lowk ends on turn 3 as raph just spout crits bliss instantly, and outplays turn 8 as well. I dont wanna be too harsh cuz i would be tilted af and not care atp if i was the one playing but i dont rly know what the pt of pressing tect with don was turn 10. Ofc turn 12 raph freezes anyways, but w rolls, i assume latias will not magically have thunder and crit it etc. i think it was over anyways. T20 even tho the double from raph is kinda obv, like what can doso even do lol. gj to raph ig

ok pls dont take it personally (or do, i dont rly care). If i rank you not so well, just remember i suck and theres probably a reason im watching and you’re playing :) also like every league someone gets ranked last and goes for like 3k and kills all the big names so yeah, go everyone lmao

I didnt rly watch the games of half the pool before but ig i can make some preliminary prs cuz wynaut

#1. MMII: a whopping 19.5k for someone who doesn’t play a real tier (ok i guess he won some bw games too last year), despite the loss i think he will still go positive and possibly best record in the pool, just dont bring bad teams lol. Ig his support is like shrang but idt mmii is a person that rly needs it. Also ngl out of this whole pool he like never gets tilted which is crazy cuz theres a lot of things that make people tilt abt this ass tier lol

#2. Heysup: Heysup is heysup, cool player and builder, i hope he loads some good (not just cool) stuff and keeps his cool, cuz everyone knows hes a great player in general, probably the best pure pkmn player in this pool. Idt ive ever watched sss replays of adv ub but lhf told me you win like everything so great support too. China power woo ig. If irl doesnt get in the way then i think heysup will go at least +3 or so

#3. Ajencis: coming off of somehow going undrafted in advpl to getting a good start in upl, i think aj is super high ceiling and kinda low floor, just inconsistent. I guess in the past they mighta been too predictable teamwise/streaky playwise, i dont rly remember sry LOL

Anyways he has ff2 support (id rank ff2 first in like almost every adv ub pool ngl no glaze) i foresee good things for aj. He also went 5-3 last year against a much tougher pool, so this might even be low for aj.

#4. Raph369: the most expensive on his team, and i think multiple finals appearances in adv ubers open as well as perennial ubers appearances yadayadayada expectations high. I think he kinda clicks too much and likes to play games of chicken w his opp too much for my taste (and hes one of the luckiest players ive ever seen) but he still shud do well. Support wise i think he has lhf and like dazi prolly, idt he rly needs support when he played the tier for years anyways

#5. Quarante8: good start for the season, i didnt rly watch the other games they played in like advltl, but i think they played well w1, if they keep loading good mus and playing well i think theyre the dark horse of the pool. They have a bunch of people on villains who are decent at adv so hopefully they can bring some solid builds and stuff

#6. THE_CHUNGLER: i know they played this tier before in like uwc but ngl i didnt watch the games LOL i know theyre a super strong pkmn player in general, i hope they can also bring some good stuff and carry momentum off of beating a top dog. Support would be like aurora dovah who are ok and prolly conflict. So pretty good support not the best but good yeah, keep going

#7. 64 squares: ok i dont rly know much about the melms managing duo adv skills so apologies if youre actually great at it. That was a p uninspiring build and game from 64 i thought so im not sure how well he will do tbh, i know he was good a couple years ago in the tier, maybe just need to adapt.

#8. doso749: ok no disrespect i didnt know who they were before i watched the raph game so they cud be a well established player i just dont know. Anyways i wasnt a huge fan of the play or bring w1, so bounce back ig. Expectations shud be low for them anyways in this pool so maybe itll help lol. In terms of support the durians obv have expensive af ubers titans but im ngl adv wise might be on the weaker side of supporting teams.

Pre dix:

MMII
Heysup
Q8
aj

General thots: low spikes usage, will it always be like this? Let’s see. Rock types continue to be on the rise, i think only heysup brought a trapper. Interesting interesting. People bringing conventional mons, i encourage you to use shitmons if you’re stuck on ideas, this tier kinda lets you get away with anything in many mus.
Thx for reading ig and pls react if u read more than 2 words :worrywhirl: feel free to correct me or argue if i got anything wrong :pikuh:

Alright, I really need to go to bed soon so I'm gonna try to keep this short(it probably won't be)

Week 2 of LHF's guide to the Retro(1-3) Ubers matches. If you didn't see last week's, since I'm a Drizzler what I do is take a look at the other 3 pairings and give my take on the Gens 1-3 matchups for the week in spoiler brackets. I also include what I consider to be the "highlight of the week" matchup, which is basically the match I think will be the most interesting to watch - this doesn't have to mean it's the "best" matchup of the week, just the one that I think is worth watching live if you can swing it.

As always predicts/analysis are never personal, unless you think they are in which case I suggest reading this again and maybe touching grass. It's summer for a lot of us, after all.

I really wanted to include some game review/analysis of the matches(especiallyfor ADV), but in all good consciousness it would conflict with my aiding in prep(or not idk maybe I haven't actually done anything or maybe I build everything you're seeing from these slots haha who knows). Much easier to do that if I wasn't affiliated with a team, and that's not the case this year.

ADV Ubers: Heysup vs doso749 - Heysup brought a fun Liechi Metagross composition with Magneton as a trapper but fell flat against Chungler's double primal bring. Heysup is one of the few people who could make a build like that work(yes I have already recreated it), but not having a steel to target and having TWO different primals to navigate made that nearly impossible for him, especially once he failed to trade Laxes with his boom due to a well timed Protect from Chungler. Meanwhile, while I won't pretend that Doso didn't get lucked hard in the beginning by Raph - THE ADV Ubers protagonist with ultimate plot armor, his build remains deeply unconvincing and would have likely lost to Raph over time anyway. Protect Groudon does not fit the mission statement of stall nor did he really have any way of stopping Spout Ogre from running over him. This isn't to rag on doso by any means. I'm very interested in how Heysup will adapt his unorthodox prep for someone who really doesn't have that deep of a scout(I should know, I did the scout last week).

ADV Ubers: 64 Squares vs MMII - This matchup is actually a bit sentimental to me. I remember these two playing ADV Ubers in UPL 2024, back when I was newest to this tier and just spectating UPL from afar. Their R1 matchup, which saw MM2 as the victor, led to a completely new team bring from MM2 that he still uses every so often. Could we see that level of innovation from him again, especially coming off a tough loss to Quarante8? But perhaps more interesting will be how 64 adapts. He's absolutely a strong player in general, but 2026 ADV Ubers is a bit different from 2024 ADV in some ways, even if the general principles of the tier are still in place. This is the "titan clash" of the week, and I hope for both players to bring their best. I have to bold MM2 purely off his constant engagement with the tier, but it's not certain by any means.

ADV Ubers: a quylthulg vs THE_CHUNGLER - Quylthulg is affectionately and infamously known as a stall lord, and did not deviate from this style in week 1. This lead to a dominating victory for them in week 1. I covered a bit of Chungler's game before, but honestly, while his double primal build had flaws it was the right call into Heysup's more fishier style. I've worked with Chungler personally on a number of teams, I know how he thinks and he will be coming at this with something to prove. I'd normally bitch out and not bold either, but I have to give respect to the Mainer Difference. Let's see how this goes.

ADV Highlight of the week: Man this one is hard. I want to say 64 vs MMII has it this week purely from a selfish standpoint, but it's really quylthulg vs chungler that stands out as being live viewing worthy. I think there's a real mind game that's going to go on in the builder for Quylthulg vs. Chungler and that really makes me interested in seeing how the builds are going to develop in practice. Also, the two might have the most fun names to say on the site out loud. Try it for yourself.

GSC Ubers: Fluore vs Conflict - After dismantling the GSC Ubers protagonist in Waruchuu, GSC Ubers' final boss is poised to claim another victory over Fluore. I don't honestly know their name tbqh but with all due respect it's going to be VERY hard to bold against Conflict anyway.

GSC Ubers: Indulge in dreams vs BigFatMantis - there's no way I'm gonna bold against the guy who had the balls to bring Charizard to GSC Ubers. And he almost won with it, too! One coinflip of Mew's DynamicPunch changed the entire landscape of that game. But yeah, remember how I said BFM is a nightmare to prep for in GSC LTs? He's not afraid to bring creativity into his builds, and pushing Vani to the limit. Indulge is a competent clicker and is someone you can honestly throw into most slots without complaint. However, I don't think IID is much of a builder and I don't think they have anyone on their team to support them nearly as well as BFM's one man army understanding of GSC. If luck doesn't fail him, BFM is the one who likely comes out on top.

GSC Ubers: Waruchuu vs KeshBa54 - On paper, Keshba should win this by keeping it simple and clicking well. I had a pretty solid read on what Keshba would be likely to load into Betathunder and we made sure to cover the sorts of outs we expected him to take. That worked very well. Purely based on how much he engages with the game(he is a notorious FIEND for games), he'd be an easy bold here. But I can't see Waruboi taking this anything less than 110% effort, and my heart wants him to win. I hope this week we see a shift away from Skarmory, a pokemon that just thuds every single time it's brought, to something more capable that's still to Waruchuu's flavor of creativity.

GSC Highlight of the week: Indulge in dreams vs. BigFatMantis. I loved watching BFM vs. Vani last week and I hope this game hits even half that level of fun.

RBY Ubers: BlazingDark vs GirlsSeeGhosts - I have to give it up for GSG for proving me wrong and giving Cake a loss to start the season. I really didn't expect it to go that way and I am now a lot more interested and invested in his run. Bolding GSG due to being the actual RBY main out of the two.
RBY Ubers: Unowndragon vs hammer798 - I see the experience differential being a lot for hammer to overcome, but not impossible. I've said this but I think hammer will need one more week to really kick himself into gear. He remains my dark horse of the pool and obviously I believe in him as I put out a post hoping he would be drafted. Hopefully this bold also motivates him to work even harder to get the W. hammer798 free ping

RBY Ubers: NotVeryCake vs BeeOrSomething - Two of Uberscord's elite larpers clash once again. I don't expect this to be a clean series at all, much like the top tier mold they spew on a daily basis. I'm not even sure if Bee wins, I'd put it at like 60/40, but I do think it's going to be an incredibly RNG based series in which at least ONE GAME is just completely unplayable.

RBY Highlight of the week: Unowndragon vs. hammer798. Old guard vs (technical) new blood trying to make a name for himself in RBY Ubers, the last of the RBY lower tiers he hasn't thrived in.

Maybe some day I will grow confident enough to do DPP and BW too, but right now I'll just stick to these 3. Here's to another exciting week of UPL. Go Drizzlers!
