Hi everyone im usually on the Smogon ladder and can not go 5 mins without hearing the F word or somebody wanting to have sexual realtions with something or a pokemon. Is their anyway we can stop this im sure not everyone on there is older just the other day my oppoent was 10 and was learning bad things from this game.
 
Lol. If you're getting cussed out in a battle and can't ignore it, the next best thing to do is contact a mod, they will use their judgement to handle the situation. If you don't like the swearing in the main chat, just send a PM to yourself by right clicking on your name in the online users list, then clicking on 'PM this user', that way you won't see what's going on.
 
no i mean in the main Chat and peoples usernames somone is named Suck My !!!! im not talking for me im talking about the younger audience
 
eh you have to be 13 to be here so i don't really know if this is really going to offend "younger users". i mean if the chat becomes "too offensive", a mod should tell the offenders to control themselves, but i don't see this as a major concern.
 
I don't really believe that it matters. You should get used to profanity, etc, if you're on the Internet. If you're on the Internet and can't take stuff like this, sorry.
 
I don't think it's all about being offensive to the people playing, but sometimes it's just annoying to see the level of unsophistication that goes on there.
 
I'm of the opinion that if you can't handle someone saying fuck or talking about something like that, you're not mature enough to be good at Pokemon anyway, and you're the one whom is "unsophisticated".

Seriously, I've never understood how "fuck" or any other word alone can be "offensive".
 
Another thing to not forget is that Shoddy is FREE. If you don't like it, don't use it, and your not out anything.

Do you? You have to be 13 to be on the forums, but do you have to be 13 to use Shoddy? Since Shoddy asks for nothing but a username and password (not even an email address), and chats are AFAIK transient, does it fall under the COPPA regulations?

I think swearing per se shouldn't be banned, but offensive insults should be. There's a world of difference between "Fuck I just had Fire Blast miss six fucking times in a row" and "Fuck you you fucking haxcheater idiot".
 
what really worrys me is the fact mods are NEVER on shoddy or at least dont give a damn about what is happening when a troll/spammer appear,noah help to a extend,but serious,i am a common visitor of shoddy battle and i must say how the main chat is offensive in every possible way, what i am trying to say is that i know the mods got a lot of work to do,but making sure shoddy dont go wild is one of those jobs,and once they appear,the trolls are gone by a long time already
 
Maybe there should be an option to hide all chats completely? That way people who really don't want to see the crap that happens there, don't.

Sorry if I think talking about some of the crap that goes on in there, such as fucking a moose is unsophisticated, and it's always nice when my nephew is in the room.
 
i think this can all be remedied by ignoring the main chat. yes, a lot of it is immmature, but if your here for the game, it can be ingored.
 
Some of the mods on that server are Trash they Ban somone for saying Battle Me but when somone says im gonna Rape your Mother thats just fine. Its also noy just the F word it is incraedibly Racist.

this is the internet, if a little profanity bothers you you probably shouldn't be anywhere near computers or people or inanimate objects

people's feelings are going to be hurt no matter what, i don't see why we need to go out of our way to protect the naive youth from the big bad world

Fuck that. Political correctness only serves to limit communication, that's all it has ever done.

As for the OP, if the kid is younger, parents should have some judgment into the situation, if you are 13+ get more thick skinned or ignore it.
 
Honestly this kind of bothers me too... logging onto shoddy makes me temporarily lose faith in humanity lol. Luckily I don't bother reading the chat, but I think dealing with this kind of thing would make shoddy more enjoyable for everyone. I'm not suggesting a censor on swearing or race jokes and stuff, but a higher level of maturity would be nice.

It's not even that I'm not "thick skinned" or "mature enough" to handle the chat or something (lol), it's just not worth chatting when the place is run by trolls...

also I think "deal with it!!" is a pretty terrible response considering it applies for all the threads in The Suggestion Box.
 
I don't think there's nothing wrong with the profanity on shoddy, just ignore it if you have to or don't look at the chat, but it was your choice first of all to go on shoddy, so you should have to deal with it.
 
Just get used to cursing, if you are on Smogon forums you will hear it and most other sites as well.

Just ignore this and don't come on Shoddy if it really is too much to bear.
