Regirock @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Slide / Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Toxic / Protect
+2 252+ Atk Minior Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 56+ Def Regirock: 192-226 (52.7 - 62%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 0- SpA Minior Hidden Power Grass vs. 252 HP / 200 SpD Regirock: 128-152 (35.1 - 41.7%) -- 82.4% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 Atk Regirock Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Minior: 246-290 (94.2 - 111.1%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
0 Atk Regirock Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Minior: 326-386 (124.9 - 147.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Eats Earthquake decently well and can KO with Rock STAB. Also sets up Stealth Rocks which Minior dislikes.
Eelektross @ Assault Vest
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Giga Drain
- Flamethrower
- Knock Off
Eelektross works as a check. It can tank a hit at +2 from Minior (Acrobatics) and then OHKO with Volt Switch. It can switch in during Earthquake or HP Grass. And that's although Eelektross is running AV (for SpD).
Sandslash-Alola @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Slush Rush
EVs: 176 HP / 140 Atk / 144 Def / 48 Spe
Impish Nature
- Rapid Spin / Stealth Rock
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
- Icicle Spear / Iron Head / Stealth Rock / Toxic
Sandslash-Alolan is a cool af mon with a pretty good defensive typing that allows you to switch in to a ton of different things, like Mesprit or Skuntank. This allows it to pivot in and perform utility moves like setting up Stealth Rock, or spinning away hazards. The EV spread is optimized so as to allow Sandslash to have the minimal roll you can get from a +2 Earthquake by Minior. Assuming that Sandslash doesn't even have Shuca Berry (in case you wanted to slot like Leftovers on it), you even have a 50% chance to live a +2 Earthquake from stronk Minior, still allowing you to revenge kill in a worst case scenario. 48 Spe is invested so you can still outspeed Aurorus under hail, and with Shuca Berry you can crap on it with Earthquake (2hkoing it). If no Shuca Berry is run, in the event of Leftovers, then one should be sure to either run Iron Head so as to OHKO the Aurorus, or outright commit to the defensive pivot and run something like Toxic or SR and Spin. Icicle Spear is a cool move you can slot on Sandslash which allows it to bop Substitute sets. 140 EVs are run so that Icicle Spear always brings Minior down to Shields Down, and potentially OHKOing after Stealth Rock damage or minor chip (such as as it sets up on your Stoutland or Dodrio or something). It also breaks Substitute, meaning you dont have to fear it Substitute+Shell Smash and then sweeping your team, you can simply break the Sub and KO it or leave it in easy pickoff range from something like a Sucker Punch or Mach Punch. Overall this is a cool Pokemon, type berries are very cool to use, and Sandslash has a lot of utility that makes it far from gimmicky as a set and can easily be slotted to fuck stuff up.
Sandslash vs Minior
140 Atk Sandslash-Alola Icicle Crash vs. 12 HP / 0 Def Minior-Meteor: 210-248 (79.5 - 93.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
Possible damage amounts: (210, 212, 216, 218, 218, 222, 224, 228, 230, 234, 234, 236, 240, 242, 246, 248)
140 Atk Sandslash-Alola Icicle Spear (4 hits) vs. 12 HP / 0 Def Minior-Meteor: 264-312 (100 - 118.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
Possible damage amounts: (66, 66, 66, 66, 68, 68, 68, 68, 72, 72, 72, 72, 74, 74, 74, 78)
140 Atk Sandslash-Alola Icicle Spear (2 hits) vs. 12 HP / 0 Def Minior-Meteor: 132-156 (50 - 59%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Possible damage amounts: (66, 66, 66, 66, 68, 68, 68, 68, 72, 72, 72, 72, 74, 74, 74, 78)
(hard to calculate 3 hits exactly due to Shields Down but it would leave Minior with around 4-20% depending on the rolls, easy pickoffs for priority. If Minior takes Rocks damage it will be OHKOd after 3 hits, think of Rocks as 1 hit of icicle spear).
Minior vs Sandslash
+2 244+ Atk Minior Earthquake vs. 176 HP / 144+ Def Sandslash-Alola: 272-322 (81.1 - 96.1%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
+2 244+ Atk Minior Earthquake vs. 176 HP / 144+ Def Shuca Berry Sandslash-Alola: 136-161 (40.5 - 48%) -- 62.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Persian-Alola @ Darkinium Z
Ability: Fur Coat
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Parting Shot
- Taunt
- Foul Play
- Toxic
Persian-Alola is a check. You are able to outspeed meteor before Shell Smash and taunt preventing it from doing that, then you force it out and it's a free Parting Shot. In the case Minior is at +2, you are only 2hko by Acrobatics and you proceed to kill it with Foul Play after a little chip.
Check. Minior can Shell Smash all it wants but will always be doing the same amount of damage to Quag and it isn't a lot.
244+ Atk Minior Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 132-156 (33.5 - 39.5%) -- 17.3% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
Quag just beats it right back with your choice of Waterfall or Scald depending on nature:
4 Atk Quagsire Waterfall vs. 12 HP / 0 Def Minior: 230-272 (87.1 - 103%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
0 SpA Quagsire Scald vs. 12 HP / 0 SpD Minior: 186-218 (70.4 - 82.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
The damage Minior does to Quag shouldn't scare it since Quag has Recover and Minior doesn't have Taunt. The only thing Quag needs to fear is that HP Grass that some Minior could be carrying which 2HKO's it.
Bronzor is the only true counter to Minior. Quagsire comes close but the possibility of HP Grass makes it a solid check. So, a grats in advance to Scizorphobic for that submission!

Alright guys and gals. This post is somewhat late. To go along with PTF's Matchmaking Thread This week's victim, Minior, will be disregarded due to it being quickbanned from the PU meta. For more information, Click here. I will change things up a little from now on. A new victim on Sundays and the submissions will go until Wednesday night. The voting will begin on Thursday and run through Saturday night and then the process will repeat. With that in mind, a new victim will be posted on Sunday morning!
This special defensive set only takes 14% of damage for Foul Play and 20% for Z-Darkinium. Taunt can be bothering for Poliwrath but with Scald it does 33-39% and if it is running Focus Blast (and it hits, ofc) it is a OHKO. If it is not taunted and Persian does a Parting Shot then it can Toxic an opposite Pokémon. So, imo, Poliwrath is a great counter for Persian-Alola.
Gurdurr @ Eviolite
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 192 Atk / 64 Def
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Knock Off
- Bulk Up
Gurdurr can easily switch into any of Mr Alolan-Persian's move and counter with Drain Punch. Alternatively, it can click Knock Off on the expected Parting Shot - removing the incoming mon's item. Gurdurr also appreciates the toxic as it activates Guts. Despite Persian-Alola's ability to taunt Gurdurr, Drain Punch effectively beats it 1v1 even without bulk up. It is handy to have a mon like Skuntank or Alolaslash paired with Gurdurr to ensure that it has a good switch in to the mons Persian-Alola switches into - usually Mesprit, Silvally Fairy or Oricorio's PomPom.
So I could only do one. Lurantis is my submission.
So Lurantis is probably the best counter to Alolan Persian. With contrary, Lurantis gets boosted Attack and Sp-Attack from Parting Shot which helps it in its breaking/sweep. Lurantis also brushes off any move from Alolan Persian and can recover health using Synthesis or attack with Superpower to get the boosts. Toxic could put a timer on Lurantis however, a Lum Berry could surprise Persian-A and get it bopped by a Superpower. Overall, Lurantis beats Persian 1v1 and is a pretty good option. Lurantis would appreciate hazard control and a heal-bell user and hazards so that it could facilitate its breaking/sweeping with ease.
