Sunday, 18/04/2021 Seminar - RU Pokemon in UU! (Magnum's first seminar!)
Starting off, what RU Pokémon have you been using in UU if any?
Many different Pokemon were noted in this list, with the most common being the likes of Raikou, Zarude, Meinshao, Rhyperior, Chandelure and Noivern. Bandkrook and BigFatMantis both exclaim that Seismitoad is underrated, probably due to it's ability to beat Rotom forms and handy ability in Water Absorb. Can'tFight says that they prefer Mantine over Barraskewda due to it's ability to check Choice Specs Primarina and Keldeo. Kitten Milk also brings up Assualt Vest Reuniclus, which functions as a great Keldeo check and can eat up hits from other special breakers
What are your thoughts on Chandelure? What set is your favorite?
The wide majority of the room spoke quite highly of ToxicTect Chandelure, with it's ability to beat it's would be checks. Kitten Milk and Bandkrook comment on the raw power of Specs Chandelure, whereas Can'tFight say that they personally believe that it has gotten worse with the tier shifts. Mygrein brings up a Toxic Taunt set, their personal favourite. 467 11 11p says that he also likes this set, as it allows you to deal with Chansey well. BigFatMantis says the he's recognised that Choice Scarf sets have been seeing more usage, and Bandkrook says that this set is
ahem *dlc1 garbage"
What are your thoughts on Zarude? Do you think it can carve a niche in UU after shifts?
467 says that Zarude has definitely carved a niche in UU as it's relegated as a "U-Turn Bot", which Bandkrook and haxlolo agrees with, but Kitten Milk says that it's in a weird place due to it's ability to run not only Choice Scarf sets, but Choice Scarf sets seem to be the only good sets. I made the comparison between Zarude and Mienshao, and asked who the room thought was better. This seemed to be quite split, with people giving the positives to both Pokemon. Kitten Milk mentions how Life Orb Mienshao is destroying the tournament scene, where others say that it's rendered useless in certain matchups.
Finally, What are your thoughts on Rhyperior? Do you think it lives up to the tier's other Stealth Rock setters?
Rhyperior got an insane amount of praise by nearly everyone in the room, being noticed as the premier Stealth Rock setter for the tier. Bandkrook contests this, though he does agree that Rhyperior is within the top 3 setters, alongside Nihilego and Kommo-o. BigFatMantis says that Rotom-H and Moltres can cripple it if they run Toxic, but he says that it's very good at it's role. Nihilego was discussed further, with it's superior utility in Knock Off and a Toxic absorber, as well as it's powerful STAB moves that can help it dent the opposing team. Kommo-o was also talked about more, with the room concluding that Offensive Rocker Kommo-o is the best set to run if you want to set rocks with it.
