UUrsaring Domination

Hello, I'm Sax King, and I'm pretty bad at battling. I've made a few teams in the past, but this is the first good one I've met. The basic idea is to weaken the opponent and kill Ursaring's counters before I unleash it. So here you go.

Team Building Process... even though no one reads this anyway

I knew I wanted Ursaring because once Quick Feet activates and once it Sword Dances, it's pretty much unstoppable. I also wanted a Pinsir lead, because it matches up well with the top 10 leads and it can also lay down Stealth Rock reliably.

The main pokemon that can survive a +2 Attack from Ursaring are Steelix, Regirock, and Rhypherior. I decided to use Arcanine as a lure for them because it can weaken the opponent's team, and it OHKO Rhypherior with HP Grass. Blastoise made a great counter because it can survive their attacks and OHKO them with Surf. It can also spin away any rocks that they lay down. If any of them git in any boosts, I can phaze them away.

I had Fire, I had Water, I might as well have Grass. I hated using Venusaur because it was so common, but only Venusaur could fill this niche. I needed a bulky sleeper who could still weaken the opponent's team.

In all of this, I realized that I still needed a spin blocker. I looked at all of the UU ghosts. Missy was too frail, and I haven't had success with Spiritomb in the past. That left Rotom. Rotom was perfect because it is bulky, can pack a punch, and spreads status.

And there you go. There's the team.

THE TEAM:
127.jpg

El Escarabajo (Pinsir) (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk/6 Def/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- X-Scissor
- Earthquake
- Close Combat
Pinsir is a really underrated lead. It has super high attack, super high defense, and decent speed. X-Scissor scares off Uxie, Mesprit, and pretty much anyone who doesn't resist it. Earthquake takes care of Omastar, Kabutops, and Qwilfish. Close Combat takes care of Cloyster and Ambipom, whose attacks do almost no damage. Once it sets up rocks, it can start sweeping and net an early KO or two. It is bulky enough to be able to switch in again in case the rocks are spun away. I'm not certain about the item, however. It's rarely activated, yet I don't know what to put in its place.

El Fantasma (Rotom) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd/252 SAtk/6 SDef
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Toxic
- Will-o-wisp
- Discharge
- Shadow Ball
What a great pokemon! This thing is quick enough to outspeed many threats, and strong enough to KO them. It spreads status well, which helps me for late game sweeping, and Discharge and Shadow Ball get great coverage. It can even KO most spinners, which really helps it do its job as a spin blocker.

003_700.jpg

El Dinosaurio (Venusaur) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Atk/6 Def/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Synthesis
- Sleep Powder
- Power Whip
- Earthquake
I hate Venusaur. Why does it have to be so good? I wanted to avoid using popular pokemon, but no othere pokemon could work in this spot except Venusaur. Anyway, this is a standard LO physical sweeper. It sweeps with EQ and Power Whip until its health gets low, then it heals with Synthesis. Sleep Powder is to stop any pokemon that could be dangerous to my team and to make Ursaring's job even easier. I really want to use a Tangrowth here with the exact same set, but I think it might not be bulky enough specially and it might be too slow. Any ideas?

El Perro (Arcanine) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 6 Atk/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Rash nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
- Extremespeed
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Flamethrower
- Morning Sun
Once again, another overly popular pokemon, but I like Arcanine a lot. Arcanine is my Rhypherior lure, and he does quite well. Arcanine functions a lot like a revenge killer: fast, powerful, and it has priority. HP Grass is for Rhypherior, Milotic, and anyone else who is dangerous. Morning Sun gives Arcanine a little bit of survivablility, because I like to keep my pokemon alive.
---
009_700.jpg

La Tortuga (Blastoise) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/6 SAtk
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Surf
- Roar
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
This guy is often my MVP. He takes hits like a champ, packs a punch, and spins away rocks, which neither Pinsir nor Arcanine enjoy. Whenever I switch this guy in, I can expect my opponent to switch in Venusaur or a ghost type. So I roar them away, which often catches them by suprise. Furthermore, Blastoise is strong enough to Roar away a counter even without a switch. Blastoise can survive most of Rhypherior's attacks and can KO him back with Surf. Ice is for coverage and any Grass types that try to counter me.

El Oso (Ursaring) (M) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Quick Feet
EVs: 252 Atk/6 Def/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Facade
- Close Combat
- Crunch
All right, now it's time to look at the king of this team! Here's my strategy: 1) Swords Dance and let Toxic Orb activate 2) DESTROY!!! With quick feet, Ursaring's speed reaches a shocking 344, which is roughly equal to a max speed Infernape. Facade reaches 210 BP once you factor in STAB, and not much can survive a +2 210 BP attack (especially when it's coming off of a 394 attack stat). Close Combat is for Steels and Rocks who usually give Ursaring a hard time. Crunch handles any ghosts (mainly Mismagius) who try to switch into Infernape. Essentially, the point that I'm trying to make is that Ursaring is a boss.
---

Problems:
Rain- Most rain sweepers are faster than all of my pokemon, so I'm pretty much screwed. I can wall them with Blastoise, but Blastoise can't touch them. Venusaur can last for a few hits and possibly net a KO, but Venusaur can't last forever, especially without Synthesis. Rotom can hurt a lot of the sweepers, but they can easily kill Rotom (same goes for Pinsir). Without time to set up, Ursaring is not too effective against rain sweepers.

SubPlot Mismagius- This gives me a really hard time. If Rotom is gone, I can't KO it. Venusaur can break its subs and withstand an attack or two, but Sleep Powder won't work on Subs and if Power Whip misses, Mismagius is under a Sub and can boost away. Blastoise dies to Thunderbolt, but if for some reason it survives, I can roar it away. My only chance is to switch in Ursaring early, because Ursaring can (barely) survive a +2 Thunderbolt. The toxic orb kicks in, and then I sweep with Crunch. I don't like doing this, because Ursaring will only last about three turns, and it can't OHKO everything because it does not have +2 Attack. I've also sacrificed the star of the team, and so therefore am missing my major player.

ok I don't rate a lot of teams but I will try to help you out a bit

first on your Pinsir, Earthquake and Close Combat are redundant, Stone Edge is a good replacement for one of them, I prefer Earthquake myself because it takes more advantage of mold breaker.

As for the item, Lum Berry or Expert Belt are both decent replacement items if you don't feel focus sash is working out. Lum Berry lets you take on sleep leads which is useful since you don't anything on your team that can take a sleep inducing move. I used an Expert Belt on a lead Pinser and it worked out rather well, getting the boost on SE is rather nice.

Side Note: Just letting you know Mismagius and Alakazam are huge threats to this team, due to their incredibly high special attacks and high base speeds and due to the fact at you have no resists to either ghosts or psychic attacks. With one Nasty Plot the three attack Mismasgius set can easily sweep your entire team as it has a chance to OHKO your entire with stealth rock damage.

If you don’t want to change your team I would suggest changing Rotom to a choice scarf variant so you can at least revenge kill Mismagius or Alakazam.

Rotom@Choice Scarf
timid/modest
252spd/252spa/4 defense
-Thunderbolt
-Shadow Ball
-Trick
-Hidden Power Fighting/Will-o-Wisp

It would probably be advantageous of you to change Rotom to Spiritomb with either the mixed attack or the choice band set so that you can threaten speedy attackers like Mismagius with pursuit (if they switch) and Shadow Sneak/Sucker Punch if they stay in.

Spiritomb@Choice Band
Nature: Adamant
Evs: 252Hp/252Atk/4Def
-Trick
-Shadow Sneak
-Pursuit
-Sucker Punch

I'm not a huge fan of the special Arcanine route but if it's working for you then by all means keep it....

However I have couple of alternative to Arcanine that I feel would fit very well you’re your team and those alternative would be Moltres or Magmortar. Both benefit from Blastoise's rapid spin, and both are excellent wall breakers. In Magmortar's case it can actually do some sweeping due to the fact that it 2HKO's the majority of the metagame (with stealth rock damage). They also fit into your theme of using less popular pokemon (although in Moltres its SR weakness really turns off some people).

Moltres@Life Orb
Nature: Modest
252SpA/252Spe/4SpD
-Fire Blast
-Air Slash
-Hidden Power Grass
-Roost

Magmortar@Life Orb
Nature: Hasty/Naive
16Attack/252SpA/240SpE
-Fire Blast
-Thunderbolt
-Cross Chop
-Hidden Power Grass/ice

Note: Magmorter is nice because it has a tedency to draw out priority users because of its overall frailty and because of the massive threat it poses to most teams. This gives you an advantage because you can then identify and remove these Pokemon thus giving Ursaring a better chance to sweep later.

Your Blastoise set is works well and of course so does Ursaring,

Overall I think your team can work, as long as you keep your opponent on the defensive, I think this teams biggest weakness is your lack of resistance/immunity to ghost/dark and psychic moves, which are very prevalent in the uu metagame. Anyway hope this helped and good luck with your team.

Hey,

Your current Venusaur set is outclassed by its special counterpart. The Special set has practically no counters barring RestTalk Weezing and Registeel. Everything else is either destroyed by STAB Leaf Storm/Sludge Bomb or simply incapacitated by Sleep Powder. It's truly a force to be reckoned with, and works even better with Stealth Rock as it forces plenty of switches.

You don't need to run a Special attacking Arcanine to lure in Rhyperior, in fact it's easily KOed by a Flare Blitz + HP Grass. So, I'd suggest changing your current set to a physical set, which works off Arcanine's higher attack stat and sports a 120 BP STAB move. An added bonus is a stronger Extremespeed, allowing it to OHKO Dugtrio. A Jolly nature and max Attack and Speed should work well.

Mismagius and Alakazam are huge threats to any offensive team, so it's vital to have checks to them. So, I'd suggest replacing Rotom with a Specially Defensuve Spiritomb. This guy easily traps Mismagius and Alakazam with Pursuit, and cripples Physical attackers with Will-o-Wisp. It also makes a great counter to most Fighting types, with Psychic. The last slot can go to Dark Pulse for reliable STAB.

Since you now lack a Ground resist, try out a Standard lead Mesprit over Pinsir. Mesprit gets up Rocks very reliably, and acts as a bulky sweeper, packing a lot of power with its base 105 Sp Atk. It has excellent natural bulk and can easily last through the match. A moveset of Psychic/Grass Knot/Stealth Rock/Thunder Wave or U-turn should work well, with max HP and Special Attack, and a Modest nature for more power.

Milotic outclasses Blastoise in almost every regard barring Rapid Spin, which your team really doesn't need too much, since your only Rock weakness, Arcanine, packs recovery. If you appreciate the absence of hazards though, then by all means keep Blastoise.

Gl with your team!

I agree with astra about changing your Rotom so a scarf set due to the revrenge Killing of mismagias and alakazam but also due to how a poisoned or burned attacker can come in with impunity on venasaur. on another note i think that specialy based arcanine is a great choice. it has much higher sp attack than people think.
