So is there a point you're trying to make?
Everyone already knows Talonflame is a counter.
Even though you miss we're talking about t-tar countering talonflame from a double switch.

Venusaur gets crushed by talonflame, so he switches to t-tar to preserve venusaur. And how does any of this relate to Venusaur strategies again?
To further elaborate, I mentioned a set, and he said Talonflame crushes any hope of switching in. The conversation devolved into a prediction war.Venusaur gets crushed by talonflame, so he switches to t-tar to preserve venusaur.
I prefer the use of "changed topics".To further elaborate, I mentioned a set, and he said Talonflame crushes any hope of switching in. The conversation devolved into a prediction war.
Irrelevant. Let's go back to Venasaur, please.
I think in the current meta, if there is one problem Venasaur has, it's the fact a lot of physical fire, steel, and flying types seem to be running rampant. (the steel types don't affect him that much. Just said it because they are a large chunk of the meta + have immunity to poison.) Including, but not limited to Talonflame. Along with that, we have Genesect U-turning left right and center, among other things such as mega Zard Y droughting it's way to Venasaur's doom. Not that mega Zard Y gets too much use. I am just mentally disabled at the moment, and can't even think of what grass is weak to, let alone think of certain pokemon.
Thick Fat is a nice ability for a grass type. However, Zard Y, Talonflame, and Genesect all still have a 2.5x damage attack, and resist his grass STAB. So it makes him BETTER against those pokemon... but I certainly would't stay in on one either. Either as in as well. As in I'm with you in that I wouldn't stay in.With Thick Fat, MegaSaur takes neutral damage to fire attacks and it has all around great defense so it isn't too bad. It definitely doesn't want to stay in fight either Charizard Y or Talonflame. With that in mind, Tyranitar is still a good pokemon to keep in mind to cover the weakness.
I was going to comment this, but I decided to check previous comments to see if anyone had already said this. HP rock is amazing on Mega Venusaur, as two of its most common switch ins, Charizard and Talonflame, are anihilated. Also, I've seen many Pinsirs mega evolve and set up SD, only to get one shotted right after. I run this spread, and it's been amazing:I've been trying this out.
Venusaur@Venusaurite
Chlorophyll
Relaxed 252 HP / 252 Df / 4 SpD
~ Growth
~ Earthquake
~ Giga Drain
~ HP Rock
I've been able to take Sun boosted Fire Blasts from Char Y even without SpD investment and score an easy OHKO with +0 HP Rock, which also easily takes care of Talonflame from full health. I don't miss HP Fire because Forretress or Ferrothorn usually just stack hazards while I boost with Growth and then you can take them out with two EQs. I really like Growth because the mixed attacking makes it very hard to find a safe switch into this guy. Heatran's switching into Giga Drain get there balloon popped and unless they WoW or you get burned from Lava Plume then EQ take care of him easily. I really like the Df but without passive recovery its hard to boost to a reliable level to make Giga Drain fearsome. I think this may be better suited with some more offense oriented EVs.

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 248 HP / 60 Def / 200 SAtk
Quiet Nature
- Synthesis
- Earthquake
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Rock]
The EV's are very capricious, as Venusaur can effectively use all 6 of its stats, but I feel this spread has been the most effective for me.
The way my battles have tended to work, it's always been a Normal Charizard switching in, trying to mega evolve on me. In that case, it always OHKO's. But thanks for that; now I know it can't kill off Charizard if it has mega evolved. In fact, even with 252 EV's it never OHKOs. I just wish Venusaur got rock slide. Oh well...200+ SpA Mega Venusaur Hidden Power Rock vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Charizard Y: 236-280 (79.4 - 94.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
The other two are defeated however.
To each his own. The majority of teams have a talonflame, pinsir, or charizard, and they do tend to switch in if Venusaur comes in on say, Rotom-W. The strategy has actually never failed for me, but don't use it if you don't think it'd work for you. Venusaur only needs Giga Drain, Synthesis, and EQ to be the best tank, not wall, in the game, and the fourth move can change depending on what you want.I'd much prefer something less gimmick from the most superior wall in the game. Outside of catching a rare switch in (which remember, none of Talonflame, Pinsir-m, or Charizard Y like to come in on sludge bomb, meaning most of them will come in clean on a revenge kill. I can't see it working upper tier in practice.
Word of advice: That should be EVs, not IVs. IVs can only reach a maximum of 31. And if you want an even spread between Atk and SpAtk, the numbers for those should be 126.Mega Venusaur (Mixed Tank)
Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll (Thick Fat)
IVs: 252 HP / ?? Atk / ?? SpAtk
Nature: Brave
- Synthesis
- Giga Drain / Power Whip / Petal Blizzard
- Sludge Bomb
- Earthquake
Err... Maybe HP Ground on Mega Venu? HP ground takes down steel types like Heatran. If you have SR support, a specially defensive Heatran can be 2HKO'd with max Sp. Atk. Sludge Bomb does more than HP Ice to anything that doesn't resist it (barring dnite. You can take dnite out with Sludge Bomb instead, and besides, you don't want to activate that potential Weakness Policy, do you?).
