hmm today i will be a competent mod leader and remember to close voting and start part 2

Ability: Slow Start
New Effect: Only halves Speed.
Competitive Reasoning: Now Pokemon with this ability can be part of cores with Trick Room setters, switching in after the move is used and wreaking havoc, and overall actually having incentive to stay in during those turns.
Thematic Reasoning: Slow Start should logically make you move slower, not necessarily weaker, given how it has Slow in its name.
Ability: Defeatist
New Effect: When this pokemon is at half health its defenses are halved.
Competitive Reasoning: There is no reason to run defensive archeops, but there's no real reason to buff its offenses with its ability either. While not fantastic Archeops doesn't really need an ability to make it into a supremely powerful pokemon.
Thematic Reasoning: As a self proclaimed defeatist myself, I wanted to go with the idea of becoming more vulnerable without the same crippling effect that the original ability had. I figured that if I just made its defenses halved it would work since now it becomes more vulnerable to pretty much all attacks.
Ability: Honey Gather
Modified Effect: The chance of gathering Honey is now equal to (User’s Level)/100. Now has a chance to activate at the end of each turn instead of activating at the end of a battle. Pokemon with this ability can consume Honey as a Sitrus Berry clone.
Competitive Reasoning: Effectively restores 25% HP at the end of each turn when below 50% HP as long as you’re not holding an item, which is a really nice boost to bulk, even at the cost of Boots.
Thematic Reasoning: Honey’s used for nothing but selling in Gen 8, so it’s fine to have high odds of activation, and a new effect, while limited to the mons that gather it, helps to make it useful again.
Ability: Ball Fetch
New Effect: At the end of a turn, if the user has no item, it takes the foe's item.
Competitive: Going without items isn't great, but it has some solid support via item removal.
Thematic Reason: Dog doesn't have a ball in its mouth. Dog goes fetching a new one. (If you have a dog, you know this is relatable, and you know they will claim stuff that is yours)

Description: Since Honey is now a Sitrus Berry, Snorlax can activate it on command via Stuff Cheeks. This move solves two problems for Snorlax: it gets (sort of) a recovery move (though tbh its more like Life Dew) and it gets a Defense boost. Both elements greatly enhance its longevity.

Description: Kind of a one-trick pony, but hey, so is Shell Smash so I guess it fits. Strat is to proc the White Herb so you steal their item and get something useful like Leftovers (Choice Scarf would be fun though o.o)

Swords Dance to take advantage if a Sub isn't broken. And before you say something like "sWoRdS dAnCe dOesNt MaKe sEnsE", just know that Dubwool, Tangrowth, and Solrock can all (somehow) learn it.

Emergency Exit is a good ability, and I stand by that. The main issue with Golisopod is that it’s its ONLY ability, meaning that the opponent always knows that taking it below 50% will cause it to switch. Well, not any more. Gaining Defeatist is not only an indirect buff to EExit sets, but also opens up previously unviable sets like Swords Dance and a more controllable Flip Turn pivot.


(Also, I should mention that Honey Gather is supposed to make Honey function like a Sitrus Berry, not become a Sitrus Berry, so no berry synergy there. Bad wording on my part.)

Yeah Calyrex still sucks and will continue to suck. It sucks so much it actively tries to gather balls to suck on. Yes that is the justification for the ability, that Calyrex sucks balls. Oh yeah and it kinda looks like a dog and has a bead necklace and you know beads are similar to balls.

The fact that it exists at all is a failure because it is the sheer and utter embodiment of the concept of failure. That is why it gets defeatist, because it knows that by evolving from a lickitung it has failed and will continue to fail.

Stonjourner looked at itself, it realized that people didn't like how it looked. They viewed it as simple, crude, and garish. Stonjourner lost its power and in its place was a different fighting style. It knew it wasn't sturdy and it knew that the power it was using was going to waste. Stonjourner decided that if it was going to fall in battle it needed to be faster and hit harder. Yet as it trained to do so it lost its defensive nature. Now it enters the face of battle, swifter than ever, yet once it goes down to half health those weakened defenses show as it realizes that it will be defeated yet again ... but at least it put up a better fight.

Even for meme stuff this crosses the line imo due to Eiscue being so built around its signature ability form change

Competitive Reasoning: It gives Passimian a form of Trace that rewards it getting a KO. If it traces an ability like Beast Boost, Competitive, or Intimidate, the ability will immediately provide the stat buff/debuff, giving it an advantage over Trace.
Thematic Reasoning: It still fits the idea of Receiver, and the immediate activation gives it a cool scene similar to a Pokemon's form change.

Ability: Torrent/Overgrowth/Blaze
New Effect: The Pokemon with these abilities get a constant 10% boost to their water/grass/fire moves (Each according to their respective ability). When the ability is fully active because the Pokemon has low HP, the 10% boost will not take effect and be overridden by the normal effect of the ability.
Competitive Reasoning: This gives Starter Pokemon another thing that is unique to them, and gives Starter Pokemon that have a situational (or sometimes almost useless) HA like Swampert and Blastoise a small buff and a reason to use them. It also means mons like Venusaur are slightly more viable without having Sun.
Thematic Reasoning: The new effect still stays true to the nature of the ability, and the buff when the mon is low still means something.
