Project Victim of the Week 2.0: ZU Edition

Boltund @ Life Orb
Ability: Strong Jaw
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Thunder Fang
- Volt Switch
- Fire Fang
- Crunch

Serving as an offensive check to Jynx, all three of Boltund's physical moves are guaranteed to OHKO her, allowing for a decent amount of wiggle room when it comes to damaging her incoming ally on the inevitable switch - meanwhile, Boltund's speed far outpaces that of Jynx, meaning that none of her attacks should be a threat so long as the little pooch is given a free switch in.

252 Atk Life Orb Strong Jaw Boltund Thunder Fang vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Jynx: 352-417 (129.8 - 153.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Strong Jaw Boltund Fire Fang vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Dry Skin Jynx: 593-699 (218.8 - 257.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Strong Jaw Boltund Crunch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Jynx: 582-686 (214.7 - 253.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Dugtrio-Alola @ Life Orb
Ability: Tangling Hair
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Stone Edge
Submitting duggy alola as an offensive check to jynx.
Ya simply outspeed and kill jynx in one with iron head :252 Atk Life Orb Dugtrio-Alola Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Jynx: 632-743 (233.2 - 274.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
And duggy can also tank a psychic if the situation calls for it:252 SpA Jynx Psychic vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Dugtrio-Alola: 90-107 (42.6 - 50.7%) -- 2% chance to 2HKO

:ss/thwackey:
Thwackey @ Choice Band
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Grassy Glide
- Wood Hammer
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Good old band Thwack, checks Jynx by clicking Grassy Glide and killing at least a Jynx and a half, and can fire off a strong U-Turn if predicting a switch, keeping up momentum
252+ Atk Choice Band Thwackey Grassy Glide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Jynx in Grassy Terrain: 408-480 (150.5 - 177.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

apologies that this is going up almost a day late, ive been a very busy wooper!!

:bw/klinklang:
Klinklang @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 236 HP / 116 Atk / 156 Spe
or 108 HP / 244 Atk / 156 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Gear Grind
- Wild Charge / Toxic
- Shift Gear

broke beats broke, amirite! if you get a safe switch in with no hazards on your side of the field, you have a relatively high chance to live an unboosted focus blast, allowing you to either ohko jynx with gear grind just dont miss or set up a shift gear and try to sweep. you cant, however, switch in to tank a stab move, especially with hazards up, because you will always fall to a focus blast the following turn

i used these spreads last week, but just a quick explanation on them: 156 speed evs lets you outspeed scarf base 105s like manectric and the rapidash cousins after you get to +2 with shift gear; 236 hp is near max while still hitting a lefties number with the remainder in attacker; and 108 hp hits a lefties number as well while maximizing attack evs.

116+ Atk Klinklang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Jynx: 592-700 (218.4 - 258.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Jynx Psychic vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Klinklang: 77-91 (24 - 28.4%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Jynx Ice Beam vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Klinklang: 77-91 (24 - 28.4%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Jynx Focus Blast vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Klinklang: 274-324 (85.6 - 101.2%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO; 50% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock; 87.5% chance to OHKO after 1 layer of Spikes

similar to last week, i will be including type: null alongside the other submissions for checks, as we received no other counters.

we received a lot of submissions this week, im very pleased with the outcome!!! please vote for two (2) submissions! im voting for thwackey and rapidash. voting will end tomorrow, april 10 at 11:59 pm gmt-5. thanks everyone, and good luck to all our participants!

it looks like with wishiwashi gone, our next best slow, resttalk pivot type: null has just beaten out the competition as the favored answer to jynx! congrats to our cohost 5Dots for this week's win! up next we have...
:ss/froslass:
Froslass (F) @ Choice Band
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Trick / Spikes
- Poltergeist
- Triple Axel
- Ice Shard / Spikes

looks like froslass was jealous that our other exclusively-female, offensive ice-type was the star last week's installment! with would-be check wishiwashi and potent rapid spinner eldegoss rising as she dropped down, froslass has solidified herself as a flexible and balanced mon and is a welcomed addition to the tier. the new dlcs for sword and shield gifted froslass two great new stab moves in poltergeist and triple axel, which meant that she could now run legitimately viable physically-oriented sets, whereas previously you were almost always pidgeonholed into focusing on special attack (her attack stat is equal to her special attack too!). this set makes use of said stab moves, with the option to run trick to neuter defensive foes like articuno and miltank, ice shard to pick off weakened foes with stab priority, and spikes to take advantage of forcing switches.

the submission phase will end friday april 15 at 11:59 pm gmt -5. good luck to all of the participants~!

Reserving Miltank

Rotom @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Shadow Ball
- Trick
- Thunderbolt

Scarf Rotom is an offensive check to Band Froslass, its Shadow Ball attack doing just enough to secure the OHKO every time - as usual with Rotom, Volt Switch is an option for maintaining momentum, while Thunderbolt can be used as part of a wider sweep if Froslass has already taken enough damage.

252 SpA Rotom Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Froslass: 282-332 (100.3 - 118.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Persian-Alola @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Fur Coat
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Parting Shot
- Foul Play
- Toxic
- Knock Off
Counter
Alolan Persian is able to switch into Froslass without worrying about potential Spikes and can threaten to OHKO it in return with Foul Play. Trick is annoying but also boosts Foul Play. A more specific spread can be used to never get 2hkoed by Triple Axel.

reserving malamar
Malamar @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Superpower
- Knock Off
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Malamar is a counter. It has a 0.2% chance of getting 2HKOed with no hazards on the field. Malamar can then Knock Off and OHKO Froslass most of the time. If it doesn't OHKO, then Froslass loses it's Choice Band and can no longer offensively threaten Malamar. Malamar also has Rest to recover later.

Miltank (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots/Rocky Helmet
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 84 Def / 108 SpD / 64 Spe
Bold Nature
- Milk Drink
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock

COUNTER me thinks
immune to polt, resists axle, very decent bulk, reliable recovery, can set up rocks so froslass gets chipped everytime, avoids spikes damage with boots/contact punishes with hemlet. trick is annoying but then froslass isnt that strong so you should be ok
252 Atk Choice Band Froslass Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 84+ Def Thick Fat Miltank: 90-108 (22.8 - 27.4%) -- approx. 31.1% chance to 4HKO

252 Atk Froslass Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Tangela: 132-162 (39.5 - 48.5%) -- approx. 3HKO :mehowth:
0 SpA Tangela Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Froslass: 109-129 (38.7 - 45.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock me when tang does the same amount back lmfaooo

Morpeko @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Hunger Switch
EVs: 252 Atk / 16 Def / 240 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Protect
- Aura Wheel
- Rapid Spin
- Parting Shot

probably our best spinner atm, and a neat check to band lass. 240 speed jolly outspeeds vally, jynx, and uxie and underspeeds opposing peko to get a slower parting shot. 16 def allows you to never be 2hko by ice shard, meaning you can switch in and tank one, and then tank a second one as you get the ko with dark-type aura wheel.

252 Atk Choice Band Froslass Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 16 Def Morpeko: 108-127 (42 - 49.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Froslass Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 16 Def Morpeko: 324-381 (126 - 148.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Froslass Poltergeist vs. 0 HP / 16 Def Morpeko: 147-173 (57.1 - 67.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Morpeko Crunch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Froslass: 386-456 (137.3 - 162.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

unsure if i'll be editing in the voting slate to this post or if 5Dots will be posting it, but either way, keep an eye out for it later today!

Hopefully I'm not too late for this

:ss/qwilfish:
The Naked Fish (Qwilfish)
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 160 HP / 252 Def / 96 Spe
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Liquidation
- Taunt
- Pain Split

Qwilfish's standard set, with a few techs, is protected from Poltergeists from some of the more aggressive Ghost types in the game, and it reduces the damage Qwilfish takes from Knock Off. Froslass' Triple Axel, even on a max hit, still does not 2HKO Qwilfish with rocks up. This is more of a check than a counter, as you do not threaten to OHKO Froslass back and must play smartly with Liquidation, Spikes, Pain Split, and forcing Froslass down.
252 Atk Choice Band Froslass Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 160 HP / 252+ Def Qwilfish: 87-102 (27.9 - 32.7%) -- approx. 4HKO
0 Atk Qwilfish Liquidation vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Froslass: 118-139 (41.9 - 49.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

:DP/Froslass:
Week 15 submissions have ended! We’re going to set the deadline to Monday, April 18th, 11:59 PM GMT-4 to accommodate for the late announcements:
CHECKS
COUNTERS
Please vote for 1 check and 1 counter. My votes will be going towards :Qwilfish: as a check and :Miltank: as a counter.

As a side note, calcs are encouraged to visualize the damage output for both the victim and the checks/counters! Some of the submissions didn’t have them, which is totally okay, but it’s just a heads up for future slates.
